Politics / UN: In Nigeria More Than 13 Million School-age Children Out Of School by Singingbae(m): 2:19pm On Dec 13, 2018
A survey conducted by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) indicates that the population of out of school children in Nigeria has risen from 10.5 million to 13.2 million, the highest in the world. Most of these children are in Nigeria's northern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, where Boko Haram insecurities have disrupted academic activities.

The indistinctive chatter of young children playing outdoors is very familiar. The boys are playing football while the girls are jumping around.

Most of the children are out of school while some have never been to school.

Favour Shikaan a mother, is not left out of the fun. She joins the children's play.

But sometimes she worries about her children’s future.

"They are four in number and... two are going to school. The other one is small actually, but even though she's small, she has grown to the stage whereby she can go to school if not the financial...like the two that are going to transport from here to Apo resettlement everyday is not easy because there's no money due to our economy today,” Shikaan said.

Shikaan and her four children fled a Boko Haram onslaught in Borno in 2015 to settle here, in Abuja.

But she can only afford to send two of them to school. The other two help her at home with cooking and cleaning.

Bright Shikaan is eleven years old and has never been to school, yet she says she wants to be a doctor.

"I want to be a doctor in the future,” Bright says. "But now I'm not going to school, I don't know how I'll be a doctor."

According to the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, more than 13 million children like Bright here in Nigeria are out of school.

Most of them are in Nigeria’s northern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, where Boko Haram has been waging a campaign against Western education since 2009.

The group abducted 110 school girls from a school in Dapchi, Yobe State in February this year, but returned the girls one month later and warned their parents never to take their children back to school.

Education psychologist Mayowa Adegbile explains that increasing numbers of out of school children in Nigeria adversely affects economic growth.

"Sixty percent of that population are girls only, and you know when you bring it back home, every girl becomes a mother or a woman who would in turn take care of other children. And for a woman who goes to school it has a ripple effect, an economical ripple effect. When she goes to school, she has education, she gets a job, even if she doesn't have a job... even if it's just basic secondary school education, she can communicate basic English and mathematics,” Adegbile said.

Boko Haram is a major factor contributing to the increase in out of school children in Nigeria, but not the only factor. Some cultural beliefs and practices also play significant role.

Nigeria's budgetary spending on education is not enough to quell the widening gap - only seven percent of Nigeria's $24 billion 2018 budget is earmarked for education.

And so far, there appear to be no new policies to boost education spending.

Religion / Re: Can A Born Again Christian Marry A Muslim Lady? by Singingbae(m): 10:58am On Jul 29, 2018
Meekha:
Well, lemme not say that we are both sailing on the same ship but my own situation seems very similar to yours. I really helped her in the time when she needed help most and the help happened to be very timely and this made her fall in love with me. But there are many problems here
1. I am 7 years older than her (Which I do not find really ideal but nevertheless can cope or change my views shaa)
2. She is a Muslim and I am a BORN AGAIN CHRISTIAN who wouldn't' give up my Christian faith for any reason, though I was born a Muslim, I converted to Christianity along the way.
3. She is from a super rich family and I am only a worker hired by her dad to help coach her where she had deficiencies. I am a graduate who is just trying to make ends meet and this job is very dear to me.
4. I have made a personal commitment to myself against falling in love with people I coach but then, this seemed to be very very different!
5. The parents of the girl have a high level of trust for me or an unusual likeness so they treat me better than other co-workers maybe it's because I deliver an exceptionally excellent service plus I am very hospitable and I consider it one of the greatest wrong I will do to betray their trust.
6. I know that it is a great woe on her part if her parents never find out about her emotional connection to me because it is a big TABOO for Muslim girls to marry Christian man though the reverse is permissible!
7. She is a Hausa-Fulani girl while I am from the middle belt: A clash of culture and social values.
8. I will end up putting the saviour who connected me with the family in a big trouble and this may result in the robbing of other young people like me of their prospects. The list seems endless.

Of a truth, I love the girl and she is of the view that she can marry a Christian cos her religion permits it (i knew it's not true, she was just speaking out of love). I currently have been putting up a stern face whenever we meet but this seems to be fanning the flames of desires even the more. The more I get to see her, the more my resolve weakens as per not dating her. Whenever I pray, her pictures keep flashing before my face as if to say that she is the One and I dream a lot about her these days. She is more than beautiful (know these typical beautiful Hausa-Fulani girls)

THE TRUTH!!!
Christianity does not encourage marrying people of the opposite religion and so if one does it, it may not be the best choice!!
God save us!!!

Bruh, my case is on the same line with you. There's this girl that's I met, we started as closed friends that even guys thought we were dating for real. But she's a Muslim, she's from Ilorin(the audacity), to date a Muslim from Ilorin.

I could remember my dad and my mom do tell me how Ilorin people are wicked. But I think I love her, deep down in me.
So I was angry, I couldn't hold it again, I linked her up to a close friend of mine and they started talking. Now, this my guy(a Christian also) asked her out. And she told me about it, but what broke me was that, "I think I like this guy". Tears almost rolled down my eyes when she told me that. Now I keep thinking about her all day.

I think we should start breaking the barrier of religion. I'll be an advocate in future. So help me God.

Religion / Re: Is The Deeper Life Bible Church A Cult ? by Singingbae(m): 9:26am On Dec 16, 2017
frosbel2:
I was a Deeper Life member and worker and almost a Pastor for about 20 years.

Initially when you join it appears to be one great club of humble believers, but afterwards you notice the following traits of their organisation ;

• They are beholden to one man, Pastor Kumuyi

• Anything Pastor Kumuiyi says is truth and if you do not like it you must leave or start your own church

• They are so spiritually arrogant, and portray their church as the next best thing to holiness while other churches are either further away from holiness or fake altogether

• They separate families, husbands and wives, children and parents, siblings, co-workers etc .

• If you are in a second marriage and become born again (so called), you must go back to your first wife and reconcile to her, assuming she is unmarried because your second wife is not recognized by God. Imagine the confusion this will cause especially with children involved.

• They lack true compassion and love for everyone else other than their own members

• They use hell fire to threaten their members into paying tithes and to abide by church rules and regulations.

• If you are not careful, the church will take over your individuality and you will become another zombie minion without a mind of your own

• The church also has to tendency to preach against wine or alcohol intake, something that was never commanded in the bible, rather the bible says we should do everything in moderation

• It is difficult to be truly happy in Deeper Life because you are always fighting one sin or the other or chasing one demon or the other

• Their focus is strongly selfish, it is all about your own salvation and escaping hell to make heaven.

• They will often tell off young women for certain styles of dressing, the problem is many of these same women have the heart of Jezebel, very similar to a modest radical Muslim woman who despite dressing modestly with the Hijab will easily blow up innocent civilians in the name of her god.

• They preach the fables and myths of a fictitious rapture (started by a charlatan called Scholfield ) , Trinity and Hell fire

Young ones, do not be enticed to join. God has called you to express your individuality and make choices in favour of righteousness and peace. God does not want any man to rule over you or force his own belief on you. You are answerable only to God and not Man.

Enjoy this life and all that goes with you, don’t live a life of misery in the name or religion.
What amazes me is that, you never used a Bible verse to counter all this. Pathetic. I guess you never stepped the church talk less of becoming a worker. Liar.
Best thing about this church is that they use Bible verses to back up their claims.
I'm a guy of 20 years old, born in deeper life, will not marry in the place. But I hope my wife changes and we go back to the church, I won't disturb her dressing tho. But I bet, if she follows me to that church for good two months, she'll change without me telling her. Shalom

Celebrities / HUSHPUPPI Scams People! Beware by Singingbae(m): 5:51pm On Oct 20, 2017
Good day everyone, please I'm highly disappointed in the so called "internet big boy" Ray Hushpuppi. It all happened on Sunday evening where he tweet that we his followers should DM him for assistance, as a Nigerian now, I bet you don't wanna miss the chance from someone wasting his life savings on Gucci flip flops and so many unnecessary things.
So I DM the guy oo, to my surprised he replied, thinking I don hammer. We chatted, he asked why I DM him, told him my brother is in need of 150k out of the 250k we were told is his school fees. To my uttermost surprise, he said how much have we been able to raise, I said my mom has been able to raise 100k through loan, thinking he's goan to have compassion on we poor boy!

Next he sent me one message that I wasn't expecting. Said I should transfer the 100k to his manager here in Nigeria if I want the money that day, that he's goan to double it like 1 million. I told him Ahhhhhh! How does he want me to tell my mom that we should transfer the 100k she got through loan to a money doubler?
My questions are?
1. He said he wants to assist? Yes, why don't he just ask for the admission letter to proof right and the loan certificate.
2. How are we sure he's goan to double the money after we've transferred the money to his invisible manager!
