Politics / UN: In Nigeria More Than 13 Million School-age Children Out Of School by Singingbae(m): 2:19pm On Dec 13, 2018 |
A survey conducted by the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) indicates that the population of out of school children in Nigeria has risen from 10.5 million to 13.2 million, the highest in the world. Most of these children are in Nigeria's northern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, where Boko Haram insecurities have disrupted academic activities. The indistinctive chatter of young children playing outdoors is very familiar. The boys are playing football while the girls are jumping around. Most of the children are out of school while some have never been to school. Favour Shikaan a mother, is not left out of the fun. She joins the children's play. But sometimes she worries about her children’s future. "They are four in number and... two are going to school. The other one is small actually, but even though she's small, she has grown to the stage whereby she can go to school if not the financial...like the two that are going to transport from here to Apo resettlement everyday is not easy because there's no money due to our economy today,” Shikaan said. Shikaan and her four children fled a Boko Haram onslaught in Borno in 2015 to settle here, in Abuja. But she can only afford to send two of them to school. The other two help her at home with cooking and cleaning. Bright Shikaan is eleven years old and has never been to school, yet she says she wants to be a doctor. "I want to be a doctor in the future,” Bright says. "But now I'm not going to school, I don't know how I'll be a doctor." According to the United Nations Children's Fund, UNICEF, more than 13 million children like Bright here in Nigeria are out of school. Most of them are in Nigeria’s northern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa, where Boko Haram has been waging a campaign against Western education since 2009. The group abducted 110 school girls from a school in Dapchi, Yobe State in February this year, but returned the girls one month later and warned their parents never to take their children back to school. Education psychologist Mayowa Adegbile explains that increasing numbers of out of school children in Nigeria adversely affects economic growth. "Sixty percent of that population are girls only, and you know when you bring it back home, every girl becomes a mother or a woman who would in turn take care of other children. And for a woman who goes to school it has a ripple effect, an economical ripple effect. When she goes to school, she has education, she gets a job, even if she doesn't have a job... even if it's just basic secondary school education, she can communicate basic English and mathematics,” Adegbile said. Boko Haram is a major factor contributing to the increase in out of school children in Nigeria, but not the only factor. Some cultural beliefs and practices also play significant role. Nigeria's budgetary spending on education is not enough to quell the widening gap - only seven percent of Nigeria's $24 billion 2018 budget is earmarked for education. And so far, there appear to be no new policies to boost education spending. https://www.voanews.com/a/nigeria-boko-haram/4695489.html |

Religion / Re: Can A Born Again Christian Marry A Muslim Lady? by Singingbae(m): 10:58am On Jul 29, 2018 |
Meekha: Bruh, my case is on the same line with you. There's this girl that's I met, we started as closed friends that even guys thought we were dating for real. But she's a Muslim, she's from Ilorin(the audacity), to date a Muslim from Ilorin. I could remember my dad and my mom do tell me how Ilorin people are wicked. But I think I love her, deep down in me. So I was angry, I couldn't hold it again, I linked her up to a close friend of mine and they started talking. Now, this my guy(a Christian also) asked her out. And she told me about it, but what broke me was that, "I think I like this guy". Tears almost rolled down my eyes when she told me that. Now I keep thinking about her all day. I think we should start breaking the barrier of religion. I'll be an advocate in future. So help me God. 1 Like |

Religion / Re: Is The Deeper Life Bible Church A Cult ? by Singingbae(m): 9:26am On Dec 16, 2017 |
frosbel2:What amazes me is that, you never used a Bible verse to counter all this. Pathetic. I guess you never stepped the church talk less of becoming a worker. Liar. Best thing about this church is that they use Bible verses to back up their claims. I'm a guy of 20 years old, born in deeper life, will not marry in the place. But I hope my wife changes and we go back to the church, I won't disturb her dressing tho. But I bet, if she follows me to that church for good two months, she'll change without me telling her. Celebrities / HUSHPUPPI Scams People! Beware by Singingbae(m): 5:51pm On Oct 20, 2017 |
Good day everyone, please I'm highly disappointed in the so called "internet big boy" Ray Hushpuppi. It all happened on Sunday evening where he tweet that we his followers should DM him for assistance, as a Nigerian now, I bet you don't wanna miss the chance from someone wasting his life savings on Gucci flip flops and so many unnecessary things. So I DM the guy oo, to my surprised he replied, thinking I don hammer. We chatted, he asked why I DM him, told him my brother is in need of 150k out of the 250k we were told is his school fees. To my uttermost surprise, he said how much have we been able to raise, I said my mom has been able to raise 100k through loan, thinking he's goan to have compassion on we poor boy! Next he sent me one message that I wasn't expecting. Said I should transfer the 100k to his manager here in Nigeria if I want the money that day, that he's goan to double it like 1 million. I told him Ahhhhhh! How does he want me to tell my mom that we should transfer the 100k she got through loan to a money doubler? My questions are? 1. He said he wants to assist? Yes, why don't he just ask for the admission letter to proof right and the loan certificate. 2. How are we sure he's goan to double the money after we've transferred the money to his invisible manager!

I've stayed in the hostel for 3 years now and I'm goan stay in my final year at Unilorin, if you ain't staying in hostel, Aswear you're missing ooo. You just have to meet different types of crazy people, you know how to tolerate and you'll be more social and be wise. Perhaps I could remember vividly in my 100 level days, power was just interrupted for just like 30 mins in the first semester!
