Health / COVID-19: Akeredolu Closes Schools In Ondo State. by siraj1402(m): 6:08pm On Mar 19, 2020
Governor Akeredolu's broadcast on Coronavirus Pandemics

My dear good people of Ondo state, as you are aware, the world is currently experiencing an outbreak of corona virus (COVID-19) infection. This is a highly infectious disease spreading all over the world.

The disease is easily transmitted from one person to another. Our country Nigeria has not been spared of this attack.

In the last few weeks, the fear of its presence in our country has been confirmed.

The major symptoms of this viral attack are fever, cough, sore throat, sneezing, runny nose and difficulty with breathing. Any individual with these symptoms especially those who have recently travelled to areas where there is a serious outbreak should embark on self-isolation for a minimum of 14 days.

Such individuals should also in the interest of our corporate existence, report in any of our healthcare facilities nearest to them or call any of our emergency lines that will be released for assistance if they develop any of the symptoms.

On our part, this administration had taken the following steps to ensure that the health system is ready to manage the situation effectively in collaboration with the federal government and our development partners. These steps include:
Equipping the state infectious disease hospital as a treatment center for the disease.

Upgrading the state disease surveillance network to be able to identify cases and ensure proper community surveillance
Roll out a sustained media campaign on the COVID-19 infection.

Ensure a seamless collaboration with federal government and other development partners
To further strengthen our capacity to respond effectively to this emergency, we have set up a high level inter-ministerial committee to coordinate state’s response to the COVID-19 challenge.

The committee which is chaired by the hon commissioner for health, has members cutting across relevant institutions and MDAS.
The main term of reference of this committee is to activate, coordinate and drive the state response protocols.

The committee will engage all stakeholders and explore all means possible to curtail the threat of covid-19.

In furtherance of this, we have also directed the closure of all primary and secondary schools as well tertiary institutions in the state as from Friday 20th, March, 2020 until further notice.

This measure is to harvest our children into the safety net for proper monitoring and care.
There is no doubt that this global pandemic poses a real challenge to all nations, yet if we all collaborate effectively, we will overcome it successfully.

One major advantage that our state has is the experience and expertise we have developed over the years from our fight against Lassa fever and other infections.

We believe this will place us in good stead at this critical period. It is therefore important for members of the public to remain calm, avoid panic and spreading of inaccurate information.

We therefore wish to use this opportunity to call on all residents of Ondo state to obey and observe the simple, time tested and internationally accepted precautionary measures to fight this debilitating virus.

We urge us all to fully embrace the hand washing exercise at every interval of our daily activities. We must avoid hand shaking and unnecessary social embrace.

We must reduce or where possible, postpone, until further notice, ceremonies and other social gatherings.

We urge us to avoid staying in overcrowded areas and avoid any unnecessary travels outside the state.

It is important we engage in improved self and family hygiene as well as mobilise our community service providers including traders, drivers, butchers, bank workers, health workers to make use of face mask to cover the mouth and the nose when engaging in their daily activities.

To ensure that all measures stated earlier are totally successful, we hereby task our community leaders, political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, heads of educational institutions, Nigerian medical association, association of general medical practitioners and other health workers, leaders of traders association, women groups, youth groups, transport unions and others to urgently commence a deliberate and comprehensive mobilization of their members to observe these precautionary measures.

Please let us take these measures seriously so as to wage the war against corona virus together and win.

My dear people, contrary to the misinformation and mischief set to create panic among our people, I wish to stress that no death has been recorded in Ondo state on account of corona virus so far. The situation as at today is that a suspected case is under intense observation and comprehensive test.

This process of surveillance and management currently ongoing in this isolated case is part of the standard procedure in dealing with infectious disease outbreaks. We urge us to ignore the unauthorized and unconfirmed statements.

Every epoch in history comes with its own challenges. We believe this corona virus pandemic is another test of our resolve to preserve our existence, we will win by the grace of almighty god.

As I end this speech, let me reassure you again that Ondo state government will do everything and all things in its power, knowledge and capability to protect and preserve our well-being. It is our duty and commitment to ensure that Ondo state people live a healthy and fulfilled life.

I thank you and may God bless every resident of this state.

Health / BREAKING: Four Doctors Placed In Isolation After Contact With US Returnee by siraj1402(m): 3:21pm On Mar 19, 2020
At least four doctors at the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ondo Town, Ondo State, have been placed in isolation after coming in contact with a man suspected of having Coronavirus.

The patient named David, came into Nigeria from Maryland, United States of America, to visit family members and was rushed to the government hospital on Wednesday after developing symptoms related to the deadly virus.

The man was initially placed at the Accident and Emergency Unit of the hospital before later moved to a ward were persons suffering from stroke are treated.
A staff of the hospital, who spoke with SaharaReporters, said that the Ondo State Government seemed unprepared for the situation at hand.

“I understand a call was put through to the Commissioner for Health yesterday (Wednesday) evening and the unpreparedness in his tone was in bold letters,” the source said.

On Wednesday, SaharaReporters had revealed how the man’s blood sample was taken for testing.

His presence at the facility was said to have caused panic among health workers, who feared that they could be exposed to the virus.

Commissioner for Health in the state, Dr Wahab Adegbenro, had while confirming the situation on Wednesday said that the case was still being suspected.

He said, “We are still suspecting the case of the old man since he returned from the US but he has been isolated in the hospital's ward.
“So, we would be sending over his blood sample for further confirmation because the man has cough and I feel this could give us a lead into his case.”

Governor of the state, Rotimi Akeredolu, is expected to address residents of Ondo by 7:00pm on Thursday (today) following the development.

Recall that Nigeria announced five new cases of the deadly virus on Wednesday.

The country has now recorded eight cases in total, raising fears of the virus spreading further in the coming days and weeks.

To curb the spread of the disease, the Nigerian Government on Wednesday announced the formation of a Presidential Task Force to come up with recommendations on how to tackle the scourge.

In addition, several state governments have announced the closure of schools and banned public gatherings of more than 50 persons to curb the spread of the virus.

TRIBUTE TO DEPOSED SANUSI LAMIDO BY ALH. KUNLE SANNI

I am a friend to SLS since his MSSN days. Even if Abdullah Ganduje the naive Governor of kano state did not remove him, with his radical approach to life and the power bestowed on our Governors by the constitution one Governor one day would still remove him.

SLS is one of the most cerebral, dynamic, creative and intelligent minds in this country.

Unfortunately when Allah was distributing diplomacy he wasn't around. He is blunt to a fault and ventilate his strong opinion without caring whose ox is gored.

Today is a sad day for me when I reflect what Islam and the populace would lose without a sagacious and intellectually endowed person like SLS
When Sharia was introduced in Zamfara and kwankwanso acting the scripts of Obasanjo was fidgety to follow suit, SLS wrote an article that was an advertorial in many newspapers. He lambasted the erstwhile Governor for not being sensitive to the yearnings of the people of kano who cherishe their Islamic heritage. SLS was then a General Manager at UBA where Kano state Government had substantial lodgement. Kwankwanso asked UBA to sack SLS or lose their lodgement in UBA

The management of UBA appealed to SLS to apologise to the Governor but instead of apologising he resigned his appointment as a General Manager in the Bank. Immediately he left UBA he was offered the post of Executive Director in First Bank from where late Yar'adua appointed him as Governor of central Bank .It is on record that he stabilised our Banking system and got rid of the bank executives who were feeding fat on depositors Funds. It was his fertile brain that created AMCON that allowed investors with beautiful ideas to have access to funds without much hassles. It was after Sanusi's exit from the central bank that AMCON was bastardised and investors started buying private jets from the AMCON loan.

When he resumed at the Central Bank, he criticised the big emoluments of the National Assembly saying it was not sustainable. The National Assembly were furious and invited him asking for apology. He refused telling them they can sack him because his father's name was not GOVERNOR OF CENTRAL BANK.
When he finished with the National Assembly he accused the Jonathan administration that there was a twenty billion short fall of oil money remittance to Federal purse. He came with incontrovertible evidence of kerosene sale racketeering by top government officials that went into billions of naira. He prognosticated that if oil price should go below sixty dollars Nigeria would go into recession and his prediction was proved right at the end of the day . His criticism of the theft of oil sales led to his sack against the constitutional provision by president Jonathan. By Allah's providence and against Jonathan's Government's position he became the Emir of kano.

The radicalism in his blood would not make him appreciate that there is need for diplomacy in royalty. He was not comfortable with what he regarded as the lack luster performance of Ganduje and he publicly campaigned against his second term. Immediately Ganduje won his immediate agenda was to remove Emir Muhammad Sanusi from power. Many spurious and unsubstantiable allegations were put on his neck.

When all the committees set up to remove him were hampered by court actions Ganduje decided on a kangaroo move which culminated in the removal of the 13th Emir of Kano Muhammad Sanusi the second today . That was the same fate that befell his grandfather in the regime of late Sir Ahmadu Bello late premier of the then Northern region.

Definitely the last has not been heard of the Emir of kano saga. We expect a lot of legal gymnastics. The erstwhile Emir would definitely fight back since he was not given a fair hearing.

Today is a sad day for all lovers of justice in this country.

Meeting an old class mate, we had not seen each other for about 30 years. The Lord has been kind to me. When I saw him again - this time at a hotel lobby - he was looking simple. He wore simple Ankara attire. I felt touched. He walked up to me and was glad to see me again. But deep within me I was not impressed with his status compared to mine and poor me, I couldn't hide it. We exchanged contact details and I could see the joy in him as he collected mine.

I told him I will drop him home in my brand new Range Rover and I pointed it to him. He declined and said he had already called for his car. It looked old, a 2001 Honda Accord.

I invited him the next day for lunch at my house. A part of me wanted to impress him - To show off my success and affluence to him, while another was to discuss opportunities and possibly help him.

He drove to Parkview where I lived. He looked impressed with my home. I had taken a heavy mortgage. In fact I was heavily in debt. We had lunch. He told me he was into small business and particularly real estate. I brought up more business discussions, but he didn't sound too interested. I asked him how I could help him. He said he was fine. I even told him if he was interested, I could help him secure some loans... He looked at me and smiled.

He told me he would invite me over soon to his place. His old car came for him. I was grateful to God for what I had. “Fingers are not all equal”, I thought to myself...I was lucky. I worked in a good place.

Two weeks later, we went to see him in Ikeja. My wife and I. She was reluctant to go because she was not impressed with the man's status as to warrant our visiting him in his house. I was able to convince her that we were close friends in college. We saw the Estate. Wuraola Estate. We asked for directions to his home. Those leading us spoke his name with deference.

It was a simple but lovely home. A 4 bedroom bungalow. I saw 4 cars parked in front. We entered his home. It was simply elegant with a touch of class inside. He welcomed us warmly.

Lunch was well served. His wife called him Baba Wuraola

During lunch, he asked about my MD. He said they were friends. I saw a company gift on one of his tables nearby. That company owned about 38% shares where I worked. I enquired from him about it. He smiled. He told me he owned the company. He also owned the estate.

I did not know when I called him sir... I was in awe of him too.

I had learnt a lesson in humility - A big one. Appearances are deceptive. He noticed my discomfort.

Driving back home, I was very quiet. My wife was humbled and extremely calm. I could perceive the thoughts in her mind. I looked at myself. Living on loans, heavy loans and showing off while someone who pays my salary is quite modest and living a simple life!

Indeed Deeper Rivers Flow In Majestic Silence!
