Wale Edun, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, has revealed that the substantial increase in the country’s revenue for the 2024 fiscal year is being directed towards various social intervention program. These programs aim to uplift living standards and address pressing societal needs, particularly among the nation’s poorest populations. The minister emphasized on the government’s social investment program which is designed to impact 60% of Nigeria’s poorest, reaching 20 million people. This initiative, which is part of a broader agenda for economic reform, seeks to reduce inflation, create jobs, and stimulate growth in key sectors such as agriculture, manufacturing, oil, and housing. In his address at the 30th Nigeria Economic Summit, Edun explained that government revenue for the first half of 2024 more than doubled to N9.1 trillion, compared to N4.06 trillion in the same period of 2023. The government attributed this significant increase to the application of technology in revenue collection and reforms across civil service operations. The increased revenue is being used to finance social programs that directly benefit the poorest segments of the population. Currently, four million households—representing 20 million individuals—are receiving direct financial support from the government, with plans to extend this to 15 million households. Edun highlighted agriculture as a critical sector for reducing inflation and improving the availability and affordability of food. The government is also focusing on the oil sector, which remains Nigeria’s primary source of foreign exchange. Recent reforms have attracted substantial investments, including $10 million from ExxonMobil and other key players, reinforcing Nigeria’s economic outlook. Additionally, the government is investing N75 billion in grants and loans for small and micro enterprises in the agricultural sector. Larger companies will also receive N75 billion in support, with loans offered at a 9% interest rate to help mitigate rising operational costs, especially following foreign exchange adjustments. In collaboration with international partners, including the World Bank, these reforms aim to stabilize Nigeria’s fiscal position. The World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Ndiamé Diop, acknowledged the country’s progress, pointing to improvements in the revenue-to-GDP ratio and stressing the importance of these reforms to ensure sustainable economic growth. These initiatives reflect President Bola Tinubu’s administration’s commitment to ensuring that the increased revenue is utilized effectively to support the country’s socio-economic aspirations and address critical needs across various sectors. Many NYSC members are having a tough time making ends meet with their monthly allowance. It’s often not enough to cover their expenses for the whole month. Nosa Onyeka, a graduate of Biology Education, who in November, Nosa Onyeka, left the comfort of his home in Lagos serve in Taraba State, experienced this firsthand. Despite enjoying the new environment at first, the challenges of living on a small allowance made him think about going back home. The N33,000 monthly allowance was not enough to cover his needs. And his place of work didn’t pay him any extra money. To survive, Nosa had to borrow money from loan apps. He found himself taking out loans just to cover basic things like food, transportation, and rent. It was a stressful situation for him, as he knew he would have to pay back the loans with interest. “The allawee is insufficient to live on. Food prices have doubled, if not tripled. You must go over your budget to eat three times daily. You can barely even save from this meagre allowance. There are toiletries and provisions to purchase. There is also data subscription as well as other miscellaneous expenses. It is never enough to be honest,” he told News Sources on Thursday. Nosa’s story is not unique. Many other NYSC members are facing similar financial difficulties. Some have had to find part-time jobs or rely on help from family and friends to make ends meet. The low NYSC allowance has been a long-standing issue. Many people believe that the government should increase the allowance to help corps members meet their basic needs. In the business environment, efficient and accurate accounting is crucial for the success of any small business. Manual record-keeping can be time-consuming, prone to errors, and difficult to analyze. That’s where accounting software like QuickBooks comes in. It’s not enough to have it, but you need to know how to use QuickBooks for small business accounting for maximum results. QuickBooks is a powerful tool that can streamline your accounting processes, provide valuable insights into your financial health, and help you make informed business decisions. Here are 3 ways to use QuickBooks: 1. Connect your Financial Accounts After signing up for QuickBooks Simple Start, connect your bank and credit card accounts. This will automatically bring in your transactions, so you don’t have to type them in. You can also bring in transactions from the past 90 days. Choose a good starting date for your bookkeeping before you bring in transactions. 2. Create Custom Account Names In accounting, each transaction has two parts. This is called Double Entry Accounting. We know one part: the bank or credit card account. You need to choose another account for the other part. This is usually a revenue or expense account. This “coding.” 3. Code your Transactions Remember we said that creating a revenue or expense account is called coding. One great thing about QuickBooks is that it learns from your coding and remembers where to put future transactions from the same vendor. In the list of transactions, you’ll see some accounts in green. These are accounts that QuickBooks remembers from the last time you coded a vendor expense. If this is still the right account, click “Add” and the transaction will be done. Here are 5 Essential Things to do in QuickBooks as a Beginner Read more - https://moniepedia.com/business-resources-and-tools/how-to-use-quickbooks-for-small-business-accounting/
