The same women some people think are obscenely ugly, I don't know about you oh but for me, It only makes them top notch in my book. More Cursed Movies "Incubus," Directed by "The Outer Limits" creator Leslie Stevens, made a minor splash on the underground film scene right after its release in 1966. Few know, however, that the real-life story of the film and its aftermath rivals the on-screen horror. Murder, suicide and kidnapping, for a start. And the movie itself, decades later, seemed to have vanished from the face of the earth. The Incubus was played by Milos Milos, in 1966 he murdered his girlfriend and shot himself. The Incubus -- a lumbering, craggy-faced giant -- was played by Milos Milos, a buff actor from Belgrade, Yugoslavia, who'd spent some time as a stand-in for decadent French superstar Alain Delon. Ann Atmar, a sometime girlie-magazine model played William Shatner’s sister in the movie. She committed suicide a few weeks after the film wrapped up. A few years after the film was released, the daughter of the woman who played the elder sister succubus, Eloise Hardt, was kidnapped from her Los Angeles driveway and murdered. Her body was discovered a few weeks later in the Hollywood Hills. Director Steven’s production company, Daystar, went belly up not long after the movie was released. (He ended up marrying Allyson Ames, who played the young succubus. The couple later divorced. Stevens passed away from complications of a blood clot on the heart in 1998.) Atuk (Unreleased) Atuk is a "hilarious" fish out of water screenplay about an Eskimo who comes to New York. It was never filmed however because people in Hollywood just don't know a good thing when they see it. Oh and also, it killed John Belushi. Belushi had read the script and was interested in the role when he died of a drug overdose in 1982. So what, right? But everything, as Einstein once said, is relative. And everything, as a Cracked editor once said, can be made to look like it's connected for the purposes of a comedy article. After Belushi's death the lead role went to comedian Sam Kinison. Numerous problems delayed production, Kinison demanded parts of the movie be re-written and production was halted. A few years passed, the script remained cursed and Kinison died in a car crash. The curse had apparently struck again. The film's lead role was then passed to John Candy in 1994. Candy took the script completely unaware that it was cursed (Read: a fish out of water comedy about an Eskimo) and promptly died of a heart attack. The screenplay was buried in Hollywood somewhere and all chubby comedians swore to stay clear of the film for good. The Conqueror At one point a flash flood nearly killed the entire crew. Having survived that, lead actress Susan Hayward survived an attack by a black panther. 91 of the 220 of the crew developed cancer after being exposed to a nuclear fallout during filming. 46 of them died. One of the stars Pedro Armendariz commited suicide 'The Misfits' 1961 The troubles on this film began during production, which encountered delays and problems from the excessive heat of its Black Rock Desert locations. But the real problems came from the film's three major stars: Clark Gable, Marilyn Monroe and Montgomery Clift. Monroe was battling a growing substance abuse problem, Clift battled his own personal demons and the 59-year-old Gable, who insisted on performing his own stunts, was quoted at the conclusion of filming as saying, "I'm glad this picture's finished. [Monroe] damn near gave me a heart attack." He suffered a major heart attack the next day and died 11 days later. Clift slid further into his drug habit and died in 1966; Monroe died from a drug overdose in 1962. "The Misfits" was the last major film for all three actors. 'The Passion of the Christ' They say lightning doesn't strike twice, unless you're on the set of Mel Gibson's controversial film. With rumors of anti-Semitism and lines spoken only in Aramaic and Latin, the movie seemed to carry the curse of bad publicity from the start. Jim Caviezel admitted the film was his own cross to carry as he suffered hypothermia, a separated shoulder and was accidentally whipped twice, leaving a scar. But these things happen in extreme movie shoots. When production assistant Jan Michelini, bearing an umbrella in the midst of a storm, was first struck by lightning, it seemed bad luck. However, he earned the title "Lightning Boy" and the reputation for a film-set curse when he was struck a second time, sharing the strike with Caviezel, whom he was trying to protect with an umbrella atop a hill. |
Well you better get to it!!! Times-a-wasting!!! G'nite for me! |

naijacutee:First THANK YOU for this post. Second. . . working for free? Been there done that! Spent an entire summer working as "an assistant to the assistant script supervisor" of an Indie film. LOL, don't even laugh about the assistant to the assistant, nope laugh at what I actually did, I got coffee. . . by the time I was done, I knew all the different kinds coffee starbucks carried, I ordered lunches, I knew who liked Avian and who prefered Ice Mountain. When I finally touched a script, it was to highlight words with my yellow highlighter, I'd sit in one tiny corner, legs hurting like crazy, sweating and higlighting my heart away. . . never got a dime!! What's funnier. . . all the hoops we had to jump thru just be chosen as someone else's boyboy abi girlgirl. LMOA Sometimes, it's not the now that matters but where you wanna be and what you are willing to do to get there. . . that's the lesson I learnt. And now I'll also oplogise for my mini-preach. ![]() |
Okay I know we've beaten this dead horse every which way possible but what's another round, eh? Anyway, in the middle of our difference in opinions last week, I sent an email to John Dart, a writer on allexpert.com, who is also very up and up in copyright issues, below is the my question and his response. I've also included the link to the website, they are very good in giving you answers on anything and everything to do with writers & writing . . . I think it is an excellent resource for any writer (especially for us who haven't made it big enough to hire our own lawyers. )Again, it's not to force anyone to do anything, just hope it helps put your mind at ease for the future. PS Seun is not my brother, uncle, cousin. . . I don't know him from Adam, I don't have any stake in his movie . . . Well apart from hoping his movie makes it big and I can tell people I know him but right now, I am just a well wisher.
Hi, I'd like to know the copyright laws governing screen plays submitted for competitions. For instance, I came across an a call for screen plays on High School Experience. The winner gets a monetary prize and a credit in the movie. My question pertains to the non winning screen plays, it's only natural that the reader gets ideas from other scripts as he reads them, is there any law preventing him from using structure, dialogue, attitude, point of view, theme, invented characters and scenes or even your own private research culled from the other scripts? Thank you, Sandra Answer Sandra, sorry for the lengthy delay in getting back to you but I recently moved and that had to take precedence. You will find that in most contests you are required to sign a release waiver indemnifying the contest from lawsuits. A waiver form may be completely upfront as something that you are supposed to read and agree to, or there is a check mark that you must agree to that says that you have read and agree to the contest's rules, regulations, etc. and within those rules and regulations will be similar terminology and disclaimers to protect the contest from lawsuits. Right or wrong, the contest needs some basic protection from frivolous lawsuits. For instance, my company runs two contests a year. All of our principal owners and readers are also writers. We need basic protection just to prevent coincidences. Our latest contest in fact had a grand prize winner that has a storyline that has some basic similarities to an idea that I have been developing. Now, I didn't lift his idea, it just happens to have some basic similarities to my script. It is a pure coincidence. You have to expect that even if you feel that you have come up with the most original idea in the world, that someone else has probably already had the same idea. Ideas are a dime a dozen. There may already be 5 other scripts circulating around Hollywood right now that share basic similarities to your script/idea, etc. What makes your script unique is the execution of that idea. The fear of having your "unique" idea or story elements stolen is a common one for writers. The thing is, in most cases you need to expose your script to everyone possible. Worry less about having your ideas stolen and concentrate more on how many MORE people can I expose my idea to! A contest is slightly different as you are not exposing your idea to a potential buyer. However, if you don't have an agent or manager, or your last name isn't Spielberg, than placing highly or winning a contest can assist you in your efforts to attract these people to your work. So, you pretty much have to just accept the risk and go forward. Theft is still pretty rare in Hollywood and just because someone "steals" your idea or other element, doesn't mean that they can write it as good as you have. Again, ideas are nothing in Hollywood. A great script based on a great idea is what sells. Good luck and keep writing! John Dart www.storypros.com http:/www.allexperts.com/user.cgi?m=6&catID=677&qID=4758115
I know, I know it says Hollywood but I figure since some of us aspire to be Hollywood writers someday, it shouldn't matter. . . right? |
Loooooong Sigh Are these all our options? ![]() |
Bubble I misssssssssssssed you too. I checked your blogs a few times but got page can't be found. I am so glad to hear school is almost over! Good luck with exams and everything and I hope you win. You still have my email right, holla anything, any day. ((((((HUGS)))))) |
It's all about numbers. If one country has only 3 people representing them and America has 500 people in every competition from track to spitting. . . of course they are gonna dominate. |
naijacutee:As soon as I finished reading your post, I went “Drats! I think I may have shot myself in the foot” because apart from two points I'll talk about, I agree with you, especially on the money giving part. Before I go into that, I have to say how GLAD I am you noticed the “Truth” in quotes because I did that to show where I stood, unfortunately some people didn’t get it and that’s why I was automatically classified as someone without God. To be quite honest, I found this really funny. LOL, Oh my, now that would make things so a lot easier. . . to be able to tell who is Godful and who is Godless based by what they post on a forum. On the other hand, I suppose we should be grateful this isn’t the way God will choose his people coz I imagine he’s gonna walk away with just a handful. The two things I mentioned kinda go hand in hand, You said you had stopped replying threads like this and you also used the word CRITIC. I suppose it’s because you think anyone who posts thread like this is a critic, that you have stopped replying and I honestly don’t blame you. I’ve read this section long enough to know what goes on, I realize everyone gets worn down by the constant attacks on the net and at times in our day to day lives, but we cannot assume everyone is out to attack our faith and be so defensive all the time. There are some who genuinely want to know things, now I’m not saying people MUST answer them, all I’m saying is IF anyone chooses to answer, don’t automatically assume they are Godless or have sinister motives If the purpose is to bring others to God/Allah and IF it is truly about caring for the salvation of others, If it is genuine concern shouldn’t the approach be kinder to leading them to the truth? If the intent is to correct wrong thinking, inaccurate data, shine the light on the word of God, we won’t be having as many arguments as we do on this section, maybe I’m naive but this is what I truly believe. In my opinion, the problem comes not from our different belief system but from people trying to get one over the other, playing verbal like a tennis match, for some people the only way they can feel “up” is to put others down and if you take an even closer look, you’ll see that for some, it is no longer about defending God or Allah or Jesus or Mohammed or The Church or The mosque or the Vatican and the Pope, it’s more about flexing their extra-ordinary prowess in quoting the Koran/Bible While surfing the net, trying to learn more on the Sun God and I stumbled on a website (I’ll try to find the link later and post it) where a heated debate between two groups was in progress. On one hand, were the Jesus is the sun god and it has been astrologically proven and on the other side were the Jesus is not a sun god and it's just a coincidence that they share birthdays. This argument had gone on for months with people attacking each other, finally this person comes on and says “Jesus can’t be the sun god, astrology does not play a part in the story of his birth because Jesus was not born on December 25th, that day was chosen to stomp out the pagan celebration of the sun gods” he also provided some sources and just like that he brought the entire argument to halt. Of course people being people, there were posts after his calling him all sorts, getting personal but he never responded. A month or so after, someone came back with more questions and he gladly supplied them to the best of his ability., showing how easy to differentiate between knowledge seekers and trouble makers and how to handle them. Why am I saying this, I guess in a way, I’m trying to convince you not to ignore these threads because you think it must have been started by a critic/trouble maker. . . you never know who is reading. You said it yourself, Christianity has been put through the ringer countless times, in every which way and it has always come out on top. Honestly, to me this is EXACTLY why there’s no reason to get overly defensive, this is the reason why Christians should not feel threatened by other religions or beliefs. People with greater knowledge, greater resources. . . Greater everything have been there and what do they have to show for it? I like your proverb "Around a flowering tree, one finds many insects” and how you related to Christianity. There must be something flowing about Christianity, that’s why people are always picking it apart, while turning a blind eye to the other religions. If indeed, this is true and there are more people trying to debunk Christianity than all the other religions, then I’m sorry but why do some Christians take offense it? LOL, don’t you see, that is should be the ULTIMATE sign that there is something good in there. How many people waste time on inconsequential things? Why would anyone want to? LOL, Do you see what I mean? There’s no denying I have issues with religion but it comes from what people do in the name of religion. I feel religion separates us as human beings. What I find truly ironic is that people use “Defending Religions ” (thinking it is the same thing as Defending GOD) as an excuse to be mean, rude and downright nasty to other people when at the end of the day, Religions is just a path to God. . . Who does not need us to defend him, in the first place. Just to be clear, I started this thread because I found the topic interesting and wanted to read other people thoughts on it. I did not come to go 10 rounds in the ring with anyone, I have no interest in trying to change anyone’s belief, I don’t feel I’m adequately equipped to say who will make it to heaven and who won’t make it. Don’t get me wrong, there are other areas of life where I don’t mind getting down and dirty, where I actually do look forward to it but not here, definitely not here and if it means I lack substance, well stick a label on me and I call me whatever the heck someone lacking substance is called. . . I promise I’ll even answer. ![]() Well that’s it for me. PS I used Critic/Trouble Maker because I went on the assumption that you mean people whose intentions are to disrupt, dismiss and demean. KarmMod Am I out of the dog house now? |
@KarmaMod Lol. . . Okay, okay go easy on the tapping. Sooo. . . @Davidylan Rotflmao. . . My God, you truly are wonderfully made. Most of my threads are about me? Lmao! I can see why you'd say that, I mean there is no doubt the thread about the school girls getting raped, was totally me projecting and the one about Bernie Mac dying is because I wished to take his place, oh the with the movie curse. . . Yep, can't deny what that is all about. LMAO. . . See, now THAT is exactly why I like reading your posts, you always have a way of taking things to a whole other playing field, it's quite educational, I must say. |
Rotflmao!! Your prize is right here!! I could see it, the images so clear!! See, not so bad after all. ![]() |
Harsh? I was Harsh? Oh man, that was not my intention. I only did it the way my Prof used to do it. . . Oh wait, I never liked my Prof coz I thot he was. . . yikes! Profmutant, apparently, I have become my prof, sorry about that. @ mactao I haven't read it, although I've read rave reviews about it. I hope to get to it before the end of the year (so many stupid projects getting in the way of my reading). I understand what you mean about shift in time and in my opinion, it works well with novels and long stories coz the reader has time to get themselves together. With shorties, they are already getting too much too soon, cueing them that time is about to shift, gets them mentally prepared for it, so they're not going. . . "Wait, what?" JMO. |
