A 16-year old girl has been allegedly poisoned by her stepmother in Abia state after she won a UK scholarship to study Law.

The deceased identified as Chidera from Amakpoke Umuaku Isuochi of Umunneochi LGA of Abia State sat for the WAEC exams last year where she came out with exceptional results.

She got 9A’s in the West African Examinations Council exams which resulted to her winning a full scholarship to study in the UK.

Sources confirmed that her stepmother allegedly poisoned her after news of the scholarship broke out because she was jealous of her success.

sadly, as much as i am playing the devil's advocate here, such issue isnt just as straight forward as you may think... many receive much less and some people who have been wrongfully convicted receive NOTHING...due to:

A) it depends on the US state where the person was convicted.... some state dont even have compensation statues for such people
B) some states have restrictions as to how much on total a person can get
C) some state even have laws that stipulates that, if you contributed to your own unlawful conviction (aka you confessed to a crime you didnt commit AND/OR pleaded guilty to a crime you didnt commit) then you should receive nothing as compensation because, technically, its "your fault". sadly, who wouldnt confess to a crime they didnt commit after being tortured for a few days without food/drinks etc
D) The federal wrongful conviction compensation statute offers up to $50k per year of wrongful imprisonment and up to $100k per year on death row.
