^^ Nice idea, that. It will surely get us reading again. I won't be suprized, however, if someone makes it top priority to get the questions, instead of reading. Another -- maybe insignificant -- factor is poor marketing. Foreign novels are easier to get in the markets. When I wanted to buy Jude Dibia's books, I had to send him a message on Facebook to express my anger and frustration at not getting his books anywhere in Aba, and he assured me that I can't get the books in Aba, unless we arrange for the books to be delivered by courier. . . And that has been the case with other Nigerian titles, at least for me, although I feel that has something to do with the number of illiterates that share the pitiable town with me. . . |

Orikinla: No literary prize in Nigeria makes the winner a bestselling author. Nigerians are strange people.
A writer wins $100, 000 this week and the whole thing is forgotten the next week without the winning book even selling up to ordinary 1000 copies.
Julian Barnes' winning novel is already a bestseller in the UK and US! That's true of Nigeria, but I'm talking about how it is in the 'better' parts of the world. . .everything good becomes something else in Nigeria. |
Literature › Re: Between Writers And Prizes by slap1(m): 7:23am On Oct 23, 2011 |
Winning a prize places a writer on a higher pedestal, it gives a sense of progress and makes you think that your work is really working. Again, it projects your works to a wider audience, which is the dream of every writer -- to be read! Although the financial accoutrement may appear 'unwriterly', it is still a driving force for some writers. . . |

oraclefemi: Nigerians ! when topics like this arise we act as if we are too educated and we just reply anyhow, damn the word trust, we have facebook and blackberry these days and women can do and undo ! Personally i know of my friends that have furcked up to 8 girls each through facebook and these girls have their status as in a relationship , some even use the guys pic as their dp. Yes it is very good to set traps for a girl, i repeat in these current nigerian system it is the right thing to do. Dont trust those ones that claim good girl, they are the worst ! I dont want to brag about my personal exploits. Women have weak emotions , if you cant lay her it means youre not touching that part of her emotions so dont be surprised if someone else discovers it and lay her in 5mins when youve been struggling for years to even see her bosoms ! Trap the beeaacttccchh ! I am a traditional Nigerian man , i dont really believe in all thsee western civilization crap most of us all do, i am the type of guy that would slap a woman that is silly enough to insult me , i dont believe in dont hit a woman crap ! i will check your emails , bb chats and facebook emails of any woman i marry, infact if i can set a gps tracker on her i will. Since you don't believe in trust, why not let sleeping dogs lie? Getting a GPS or even the Isreali Mossad on her looks like sourcing for trouble or even heartbreak. However, you made some points there. . . |

Hi, everyone. I often hear people talk about setting traps for their boyfriend or girlfriend, to see whether they will fall or not. Is it really necessary? What if the person falls into the trap, does it mean they don't love you? Can it affect the love you have for him/her? Is it good to set traps in relationships? |
