Manchester United for the past 2 years under Jose Mourinho could be liken to Nigeria under President Buhari. Manchester United had a great team but they were under-performing under a coach that claims to be the best in the world. The coach blamed everyone in the club for their poor results, the coach refused to admit that he is the problem. The owners and management of the club decided to sack him and give another person a try.As expected, the team that wasn't performing is now performing and also challenging for a top 4 finish in the league. Nigeria just like Manchester United is blessed with both Human and Mineral Resources but unfortunately has not be working because we have a president that blames everybody but himself for our stunted economic growth. I think Nigerians need a change. let's get Nigeria working again. it's obvious Buhari just like Mourinho is bereft of ideas on how to manage an economy and also its people. |
Witnesses told SaharaReporters that the insurgents laid siege on the remote village of Mbolakel, some six kilometres away from Chibok town, at about 11:45pm on Christmas Day, injuring at least three persons and burning down the whole village. Chibok residents said the deafening sound of gunshots roused them from sleep and the smoke could still be seen from distance hours after. "The heavy gunshots woke us up," one, who simply identified himself as Musa, said. “We saw the flames from faraway. Early this morning, we went to the Mbolakel Village; it was burnt down, three wounded, there was no loss of lives.” Three days ago, suspected insurgents attacked Makalama community, also near Chibok, and razed some houses. |
President Muhammadu Buhari said on Tuesday that he was not shaken by critics who called him Baba Go Slow because of his insistence that stolen money must be followed and retrieved , no matter how long it would take . The President spoke in Abuja when he received a delegation from the Federal Capital Territory community on a Christmas visit to the Presidential Villa . Making a specific reference to his 2019 re- election campaign , Buhari stated that the focus had not changed from what the All Progressives Congress outlined in 2015 for that year ’s general elections . He said his campaign focus remained on the tripod of fighting corruption , insecurity and improving the economy . The President is expected to launch his re- election campaign on December 28 in Uyo , the Akwa Ibom State capital in the South - South geo- political zone. The other zones, North -East, North -Central, North -West , South -West and South - East, will follow in subsequent dates. Buhari said , “ The party (APC ) nominated me and I will contest . We are watching the Independent National Electoral Commission very seriously and we are going out very soon . “ We will go from geo- political zone to geo- political zone , to remind the people of our promises in 2015 . There are three fundamental things . Security comes first , because you have to secure the country before you can govern it. Talking about what we have done regarding securing the country , the people of the North- East know better . The three fundamental things we campaigned with are still very relevant. “ On improving the economy , which we are still going to explore , we have done well in agriculture . Those who embraced farming are not regretting it . We have also addressed unemployment and we are very lucky. Through that , we are now attaining food security. He added, “ The third thing with which we will campaign is the issue of corruption. I told you what I did when I was in uniform . But now when I have to go by this system ( democracy) , where people have to be arrested and then prosecuted , taken to court and then with evidence , we will collect back what they had taken illegally . “ For doing that , people are calling me Baba Go Slow . I am going slowly, but whatever the case, I will not stop pointing fingers at those who have abused trust by taking money that does not belong to them. “ Fighting corruption. Yes , we are slow because the system is slow. It is not Baba that is slow, but it is the system . So I am going by this system and I hope we will make it. ” The community was led by the Minister of the FCT, Mohammed Bello . The minster, while speaking earlier , praised Buhari for his performance so far, adding that the residents of the territory were proud of him . Bello said , “ We pray that God Almighty will continue to grant you good health, strength, capacity , ability and patience to continue to lead us to the promised land. “ On behalf of the FCT , we appreciate you for the good work you are doing for the territory. Just last week, you inaugurated for us a new airport terminal and so many road projects that are going on in Abuja. “ We feel highly delighted to be hosting you here and it is my honour on behalf of the FCT community to assure you that we are solidly behind you and by the grace of God , we look forward to you spending another four years in the State House. ” The Primate of Church of Nigeria ( Anglican Communion ) , Nicholas Okoh, who was on the delegation, said he was elated that Buhari had regained his full health. |

President Muhammadu Buhari who is seeking a second term in presidential polls scheduled for February 2019. / AFP PHOTO / Atiku admits not speaking with Col . Sakaba’s wife Atiku Abubakar, presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, has retracted his earlier story of speaking with the widow of Lt. Col Ibrahim Sakaba, killed by Boko Haram at Metele last month. He now said he spoke with the slain soldier’s sister, Maryam. The PDP candidate had opened himself to widespread derision following his online post that he spoke with Seun, Sawaba’s wife. But the woman denied she received a phone call from Abubakar and wondered why the 72 year-old politician lied. Abubakar has now set the record straight and apologized for the “erroneous communication”. Here is Atiku Abubakar’s statement: Following the death of Lt. Col Ibrahim Sakaba during the Boko Haram insurgents’ attack on 157 Taskforce Battalion in Metele, His Excellency Atiku Abubakar’s staff has made efforts to get the contact of his widow to enable the former Vice President express his condolences over the loss of the fallen hero. Over the weekend, Atiku Abubakar was availed with phone numbers of Mrs. Sakaba and Maryam, younger sister of the late soldier, in the alternative. On Sunday, the former Vice President tried albeit unsuccessfully to contact Mrs. Sakaba but was able to eventually speak with Maryam, younger sister of the gallant soldier during which he expressed his deepest condolences to the family. However, this communication was erroneously communicated. The error is regretted. Atiku Abubakar, however reaffirms his deepest condolences to the Sakaba family, which sacrifices, like those of their brave son, keeps us safe. |

Demands release of its employees, apology from anti-graft agency: Bankers Warehouse Ltd., a company duly licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to carry out cash/asset movement and currency processing, said, yesterday, that the $2.8 million intercepted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) at Enugu Airport on Thursday was wrongly seized. In a statement, yesterday, the firm said the seizure happened while providing a legitimate currency movement for one of the bank-clients from Onitsha to its branch in Lagos, saying that its couriers were stopped at the Enugu Airport, detained and interrogated by the EFCC despite providing identification details. “The documents provided also included a covering note from the bank, authorising the team to move the consignment, which is the standard practice”, the firm said. Golf: Nigeria Agip’s Chigborogu Wins 2018 CBN Governor’s Cup “We hereby state emphatically that the movement of this currency was a legitimate exercise being carried out on behalf of a legitimate financial institution”. The statement was a follow-up to the letter the Bankers Warehouse Ltd wrote to the CBN to complain about the $2.8m seizure and ask for its intervention immediately the incident happened on Thursday. In the letter addressed to the CBN Deputy Governor and titled, ‘EFCC Confiscation of Goods in Transit with Bankers Warehouse’, the firm said it was facing a challenge with one of the security agencies (EFCC) “who detained our couriers, yesterday evening, while attempting to board a flight from Enugu to Lagos, conveying currency on behalf of Union Bank.” “They were transporting US Dollars”, the firm, in the letter signed by Dr. Lawrence Ijebor, its BW Head of Operations, said. It went on: “When questioned, they presented their identity cards, identifying themselves as Bankers Warehouse employees on official CIT movement and also provided the letter of authority issued by the bank, covering that movement. “Despite the information provided, the EFCC insisted on detaining our employees, taking possession of our goods and threatening to confiscate the currency , without making themselves available to our senior managers, or agencies familiar with our movements”. It cited an article in Daily Trust Online, “as well as the EFCC website https://efccnigeria.org, where our staff have been paraded as suspected money launderers, exposing the identity of our client and portraying our company in not just a negative, but criminal light”. “We seek your intervention as our regulator to address this issue of constant harassment of our staff by security agencies, which constitutes a risk that could threaten the lives and safety of our employees and the cargo they are tasked with conveying. “Also kindly recall that the CBN had previously called a meeting of stakeholders regarding this issue in the past. It may be prudent to engage the stakeholders, once again, to provide clarity on the legitimacy, coverage and mode of operations of registered CIT operators”. ‘Our employers are not criminals’ In the statement issued, yesterday, Bankers Warehouse said: “ We emphasize that our employees are in no way criminals, carrying out any act of illegality as the EFCC has tried to portray. The young men whose character and reputation have been deliberately soiled by the EFCC operatives were conducting their legitimate duties as requested by a bank customer of our company. “We request for the swift and immediate release of our employees and our customer’s currency, both detained without proper cause. “We also demand an immediate retraction by the EFCC and an apology issued to our company and our employees whose images have been maligned. Our client who has been unfairly exposed and accused of implied illegality, and whose money is still being improperly held by the EFCC operatives, deserve a very special apology for the disclosure of their business and damage done to their image.” |

brother, you're yet to marry this lady and you're already thinking of ignoring your mom's advice, when you finally get married to her, I guess you can tell your mom to go and die. my guy, she's not your wife yet, so your relationship with your mom is far more important. from your explanations, seems your mom doesn't like the lady. probably she has seen something that you're too blinded to see. |
Before he was killed by suspected assassins on Tuesday , Badeh had reportedly complained to his associates and friends that he was being monitored by unknown people, The PUNCH learnt on Wednesday. It was learnt that he equally complained that his lines were bugged by unidentified people. An associate of the deceased , who spoke on condition of anonymity , informed one of our correspondents that Badeh had also reported an attempt by unidentified persons to break into his home in Asokoro, Abuja , last month to security agents. The source , however , added that their investigation did not yield any result . The source said , “ The ex- CDS was always telling us his friends that he was not feeling safe even though he has about 10 armed operatives guarding him. He complained that he was being monitored and that his phone lines were bugged. “ We advised him to leave the country , but he refused, saying there was nowhere he could go that the government would not extradite him . “ He said that if he travelled out of the country, and decided not to return, the government would say he had run away because of the corruption case against him . See the end now. Which one is better now, to leave the country or be killed ?” It was learnt that the freezing of his bank accounts by the EFCC had made him insolvent and he could not pay his domestic and farm workers . It was further gathered that Badeh went to his farm located off the Abuja - Keffi highway to harvest maize and other crops which he hoped to sell in order to pay the workers when he was murdered while returning home. Another source, who is an intimate friend of the deceased , explained that Badeh had no avenue to raise money as all his properties had been seized by the EFCC. He added, “ Apart from the fact that the ex -CDS was broke , the endless trial was also taking a toll on him . He actually went to the farm to harvest maize and other crops so he could pay his domestic and farm workers when his assailants struck. “ It is such a big tragedy that a retired top military officer could be gunned down like that . We suspect that his death was politically motivated . ” It was gathered that Badeh lived alone while his wife resides in London . One of his three children was said to be a pilot in the United States military . |
Surprise and anger on Wednesday greeted the murder of an ex- Chief of Defence Staff , Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh ( retd.) , on the Abuja-Keffi Road on Tuesday . Among those, who condemned the killing was President Muhammadu Buhari , who ordered security agencies to urgently find the killers. The late security chief ’ s colleagues, retired generals, demanded the immediate investigation of Badeh’s death , while the Peoples Democratic Party’ s presidential candidate , Atiku Abubakar , said the killing was an indication of the failure of the Buhari administration . The Nigerian Air Force, on its part, said it would find the killers of the former CDS , who once headed the NAF. READ ALSO : CSOs protest activist’ s arraignment for murder in Kano Describing the killing as “ very sad and unfortunate, ” the President asked security agencies to bring the attackers to justice . Buhari , in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity , Mr Femi Adesina , condoled with the family of the deceased , his associates and the government and the people of his home state , Adamawa . The statement reads partly , “ The President commiserates with the family of the late four -star general , his friends and professional colleagues in the military , and the people and government of Adamawa State . “ Noting that the late Badeh, who was also a former Chief of Air Staff , attained professional fulfilment in his over three decades military career, President Buhari regrets that he fell victim to an incident of violent and fatal attack on the nation’ s highway . “ He directs security agencies to find the killers of the 15th Chief of Defence Staff and bring them to face the full force of the law, while ensuring greater security and safety for all users of the country ’s roads. ” Badeh’ s killers will be arrested, says NAF Meanwhile , NAF said it would arrest Badeh’s killers and make them to face justice. The Chief of Air Staff , Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar , who said this at the Fourth Quarter Chief of Air Staff Conference on Wednesday in Abuja , noted that the killing was “ totally unacceptable and hands must be put together to ensure some individuals do not undermine national security . “ He said , “ We are no doubt in a state of shock at what happened yesterday ( Monday ) when the former CDS was killed along Keffi -Abuja road . “ The entire Air Force family is shocked about the incident and we are expressing our condolence to the wife and children of Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh. “ We are very appreciative of the sentiments expressed by Nigerians after the incident . It shows they love and support the Service. For this kind of thing to happen, it is something that is totally unacceptable . “ NAF is working to find those behind this crime, and by the special grace of God , we will get them and they will face justice. “ Though we are working hard , we should redouble our efforts ; we need to work round the clock, we need to put in more effort. “ We need to collaborate more closely to ensure that these criminals are not allowed to endanger the lives of our people. “ On our part, as a service , I am sure you are aware of the efforts we are making to build the capacity of the special force and regiment personnel so as to add value to what we are doing in all parts of the country . “ It is not entirely a military affair; those guys that shot Badeh came from an environment; so, we all have to put hands together to make sure that our national security is not undermined by individuals .” Badeh complained he was being monitored before his death – Source Before he was killed by suspected assassins on Tuesday , Badeh had reportedly complained to his associates and friends that he was being monitored by unknown people, The PUNCH learnt on Wednesday. We suspect that his death was politically motivated . ” It was gathered that Badeh lived alone while his wife resides in London . One of his three children was said to be a pilot in the United States military . Ex -generals express shock , demand FG investigation One of our correspondents, at the former CDS ’ s residence on Wednesday in Asokoro, Abuja , observed that a condolence register had been opened for him , while serving and retired senior military officers thronged the building to condole with the family. Some of the retired generals expressed shock at the murder, urging the Federal Government and “ the police to fish out the dastardly killers. ” Killers took nothing from his car – sources A retired major - general, who visited the house and spoke on condition of anonymity, said , “ The gunmen wanted to make it look like a robbery but it was not a robbery . The men came straightaway for him ( Badeh) . They did not attack any other vehicle . They did not take anything from his car. That is purely an assassination . “ They shot him several times in the chest until they were sure he was dead . In that situation , you know they were sent. I believe the Federal Government and the police should unravel these killers. ” Other sources corroborated his claim , noting that Badeh’s death must be painstakingly investigated by the Federal Government, particularly as Nigeria was also in the political season where assassinations would cast a dark shadow on the country ’s preparations. In the condolence register, Maj. Gen . P .G . Ogah ( retd.) said , “ This is most shocking . May the Lord grant you eternal rest . ” Also, Air Vice- Marshal A. O. Odunlade ( retd. ) , wrote , “ What a great loss . We are very shocked when we heard the bad news.” Meanwhile , Air Commodore Adamu Kachiro (retd. ) said , “ This is devastating, unbelievable and shocking . How could it be ? A four-star general just like that ? What is happening in our country? May God grant the family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss . ” A source said the CDS ’s wife and children were based overseas and had yet to return to Nigeria as of press time, noting that “ the sad news would have got to them. ” The members of the Adamawa community Association in Abuja where the former Chief of Defence Staff belonged were also seen in the house . Also, the Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, condemned the murder of the former CDS . The governor made this known in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr Charles Aniagwu , in Asaba on Wednesday. Ex -President Jonathan mourns In his reaction , former President Goodluck Jonathan described the killing as wicked . The former President recalled that Badeh, who served his administration as both Chief of Air Staff and Chief of Defence Staff served the nation to the best of his abilities. Jonathan regretted that Badeh, who rose to the peak of his military career before his retirement, was murdered in a cruel way ; at a time he could still be of service to his fatherland . He therefore urged the security agencies to swiftly unmask those behind this dastardly act and bring them to justice. Atiku blames Badeh ’s death on rising insecurity However , Atiku attributed the killing of Badeh to the rising insecurity in the country. He said that the best tribute that Buhari could pay to the late security chief would be to ensure free and fair polls next year. In a statement in Abuja on Wednesday by his Special Assistant on Public Communication, Mr Phrank Shaibu , Atiku said if the gunmen had not waylaid the vehicle in which Badeh was travelling , he would not have sustained the gunshot wounds and health complications that terminated his life. Atiku said while Badeh’s death made headline news because of the personality involved, many ordinary Nigerians were either killed or maimed on a daily basis by armed robbers, kidnappers , herdsmen and hoodlums across the country. He said amid indications that the Buhari - led All Progressives Congress had allegedly lost the initiative to these criminals, he said it was time to remind the President to get ready to give way to a more serious political party. PDP demands immediate investigation Also, the opposition PDP has described Badeh’s murder as shocking . It stated that the killing of a military officer of Badeh’ s status had heightened the fear about insecurity in the country under the administration of Buhari . The PDP , in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan , added that the murder of the former CDS , came ahead of his opening of defence, in January next year, in the N 3.9bn fraud case preferred against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission . The PDP , therefore, demanded a wide - range investigation into the killing to unravel the culprits as well as the motive behind their action . The party recalled the killing of a former Chief of Army Administration , Major General Idris Alkali ( retd. ), in Plateau State and the murder of scores of soldiers in Melete , Borno State , by insurgents and stated that Buhari had failed woefully as the commander - in -chief of the armed forces . It stated that Nigeria was gradually assuming the status of a failed state , and urged Buhari to spend the few months left of his administration to provide a leadership that would secure respect for the nation’ s territorial integrity and the lives of Nigerians. |
