Religion / Halloween Celebration, What Does The Bible Say? by slimchimex(m): 8:41am On Oct 30, 2022
Halloween has generally been regarded as an American holiday. Yet this celebration has become popular in many parts of the world. Additionally, there are other festivities that are like Halloween in that they celebrate the existence and activity of spirit creatures. Shown here are some of the popular holidays like Halloween around the globe.

North America - Day of the Dead

South America - Kawsasqanchis

Europe - Day of the Dead and variations of Halloween

Africa - Dance of the Hooded Egunguns

Asia - Bon Festival

THE BIBLE’S ANSWER
The Bible does not mention Halloween, a holiday that many observe on October 31 each year. However, the ancient origins and traditions of Halloween conflict with Bible teachings.

Notice the following verses that show how God views the beliefs associated with Halloween:

1: “There must never be anyone among you who . . . consults ghosts or spirits, or calls up the dead.”—Deuteronomy 18:10-12, The Jerusalem Bible.

Meaning: God does not approve of efforts to contact the dead or even of giving the appearance of trying to have contact with those who have died.

2: “The dead know nothing at all.”—Ecclesiastes 9:5.

Meaning: Because the dead are unconscious, they cannot contact the living.

3: “[Do not] be participants with demons. You cannot drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons too.”—1 Corinthians 10:20, 21, New International Version.

Meaning: Those who want God’s favor must avoid any connection with demons.

4: “Stand firm against the crafty acts of the Devil; because we have a struggle . . . against the wicked spirit forces.”—Ephesians 6:11, 12.

Meaning: Christians should oppose wicked spirit forces, not pretend to celebrate with them.

Culture / What Are The Origins Of Halloween? by slimchimex(m): 8:26am On Oct 30, 2022
Halloween’s history and traditions

Samhain: The origin of Halloween can be traced to this “ancient pagan festival celebrated by Celtic people over 2,000 years ago,” states The World Book Encyclopedia. “The Celts believed that the dead could walk among the living at this time. During Samhain, the living could visit with the dead.”—See “ Why Is It Called Halloween?”

Halloween costumes, candy, and trick or treat: According to one source, some of the Celts wore ghoulish costumes so that wandering spirits “would mistake them for one of their own” and leave them alone. Others offered sweets to the spirits to appease them.

Ghosts, vampires, werewolves, witches, and zombies: These have long been associated with the evil spirit world. Referring to them as “supernatural monsters,” the book Halloween Trivia states that such creatures are “closely connected with death, the dead or the fear of dying.”

Halloween pumpkins, or jack-o’-lanterns: In medieval Britain, people “moved from door to door asking for food in return for a prayer for the dead,” and they would carry “hollowed-out turnip lanterns, whose candle connoted a soul trapped in purgatory.” (Halloween—From Pagan Ritual to Party Night) Some sources say that the lanterns were used to ward off evil spirits. During the 1800’s in North America, pumpkins replaced turnips because they were plentiful as well as easy to hollow out and carve.

Why is it called Halloween?
The name Halloween is connected with the pagan Celtic festival of Samhain. The World Book Encyclopedia states: “Samhain . . . means summer’s end. The festival marked the start of the dark winter season and was celebrated around November 1. In the A.D. 700’s to 800’s, the Christian church established a new holiday, All Saints’ Day, on this date. All Saints’ Day was also called All Hallows’. Hallow means saint, or one who is holy. The evening before All Hallows’ was known as All Hallows’ Eve, or as it came to be abbreviated, All Hallow e’en. This name was eventually shortened to Halloween.”

Satan isn't the reason why you do evil. You do evil because you have evil intentions in your heart. So instead, you need to destroy those evil intentions in your own heart - the will of yours to disobey God's commandments - and you will find yourself no longer doing that which is evil against God. undecided
Romans 5;12 says "Thay is why, just as through one man(Adam) sin entered into the world and death through sin, so death spread to all men because they had all sinned".

Remember that Adam was perfect obeying God's command before he and his wife Eve were deceived by satan, and they rebeled against God. This was the begining of man's sin and evil on planet earth.

Although we have conscience and freewill to decide between right and wrong, choosing to do God's will or not, satan as the Bible describe him, is moving about like a roaring lion looking for people to mislead and pushing them to disobey God.

1. So what you are insinuating is that when Jesus Christ said, what He did in the Gospels, Jesus Christ lied to His disciples? undecided

Because by saying that Jesus Christ did not in fact mean His followers should pray as He commands, and we know the same Jesus Christ said those who love Him are those who obey His commandments. undecided
Does God now answer the prayers of the very hypocrites that He vowed over 2000 that He never will? undecided

2. Does the interpretation of the prayer matter as far as what Jesus Christ said of how we are to pray as such whenever we seek to pray to the Father? undecided
The model prayer of Jesus is not a word for word prayer, but serves as a guide to pray from the heart, and ro make our prayer presentable to God.
Remember Jesus talked about avoiding repeatation of words while praying. So we can't be reading Mat. 6:9-15 and claim we're praying.
And don't forget we have our indiviual problems which did not reflex in that prayer.

Third you acknowledge his providential power
Fourth you ask for mercy
Fifth you ask for his protection from temptation and evil
Sixth you acknowledge his kingdom to come

Religion / How To Pray—is The Lord’s Prayer The Best Way? by slimchimex(m): 8:39am On Jul 31, 2022
THE BIBLE'S ANSWER
The Lord’s Prayer provides guidance for us as to how we should pray and what we should pray about. Jesus gave it in response to his disciples’ request: “Lord, teach us how to pray.” (Luke 11:1) However, the Lord’s Prayer, or the Our Father prayer, is not the only prayer that God accepts. Rather, Jesus gave it as a pattern for prayers that God hears.

What does the Lord’s Prayer say?
The Lord’s Prayer, recorded at Matthew 6:9-13, is worded differently in various Bible translations. Here are two examples.
New World Translation: “Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. Let your Kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also on earth. Give us today our bread for this day; and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the wicked one.
”King James Version: “Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.”

What is the meaning of the Lord’s Prayer?
Jesus’ teaching agreed with the rest of the Scriptures, so we can expect other parts of the Bible to shed light on the meaning of the Lord’s Prayer.
“Our Father in the heavens”.......It is fitting to address God as “our Father” because he created us and gave us life.—Isaiah 64:8.
“Let your name be sanctified”.......God’s name, Jehovah, should be honored and treated as holy, or sacred. Humans share in sanctifying God’s name when they speak of his qualities and make known his purposes.—Psalm 83:18; Isaiah 6:3.
"Let your Kingdom come”.......God’s Kingdom is a heavenly government with Jesus as its King. Jesus taught us to pray for this government to exercise its rule over the whole earth.—Daniel 2:44; Revelation 11:15.
"Let your will take place, as in heaven, also on earth”.......Just as there is no evil or death in heaven, God’s will for the earth is that humans live forever on it in peace and security.—Psalm 37:11, 29.
“Give us today our bread for this day”........In Jesus’ time, bread was a staple food. We should remember that we depend on our Creator to provide the things we need in order to live.—Acts 17:24, 25.
“Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors”.........In this context, the word “debts” is another word for sins. (Luke 11:4) All humans sin and need forgiveness. But if we want to receive God’s forgiveness, we must be willing to forgive others for their sins against us.—Matthew 6:14, 15.
"Do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the wicked one”.........Jehovah God never tempts us to do wrong. (James 1:13) But we are tempted by “the wicked one,” Satan the Devil—who is also called “the Tempter.” (1 John 5:19; Matthew 4:1-4) We ask that Jehovah not permit us to give in when we are tempted to disobey him.
Religion / Is Is Reciting The Lord’s Prayer The Only Way To Pray? by slimchimex(m): 7:59am On Jul 31, 2022
Jesus provided the Lord’s Prayer as an example. It is not to be recited word for word. Just before providing the Lord’s Prayer, Jesus warned: “When praying, do not say the same things over and over again.” (Matthew 6:7) When he provided a model prayer on another occasion, he used different wording.—Luke 11:2-4.
The best way to pray is to use sincere personal expressions from our heart.—Psalm 62:8.

HOW SHOULD WE PRAY ?
The Lord’s Prayer provides a good example of how to pray in a way that God hears. Note how it agrees with other Bible verses about prayer.
Pray only to God.... Scripture: “In everything by prayer and supplication along with thanksgiving, let your petitions be made known to God.”—Philippians 4:6.
Meaning: Our prayers should be addressed to God—not to Jesus, Mary, or saints. With the opening words, “Our Father,” the Lord’s Prayer teaches us to pray to Jehovah God alone.
Pray for things that harmonize with God’s will.... Scripture: “No matter what we ask according to his will, he hears us.”—1 John 5:14.
Meaning: We can pray about anything that is in harmony with God’s will. Jesus taught us how important God’s will is by including in the Lord’s Prayer the expression “let your will take place.” We can learn about God’s will for the earth and for humans by studying the Bible.
Pray about personal concerns..Scripture: “Throw your burden on Jehovah, and he will sustain you.”—Psalm 55:22.

Meaning: God cares about our concerns. Just as Jesus included several personal requests in the Lord’s Prayer, we can pray for our daily physical needs, for guidance when making important decisions, for support in troubled times, and for forgiveness for our sins.
For example, Jesus and his disciples offered other prayers that did not stick to the specific words used in this model prayer.—Luke 23:34; Philippians 1:9.
The King James Version concludes the Lord’s Prayer with the phrase: “For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.” This expression of praise to God, also found in some other Bibles, is known as a doxology. However, The Jerome Biblical Commentary states: “The doxology . . . is not found in the most reliable [manuscripts].
”Those who sense that they need God’s forgiveness might feel too guilty to pray. But Jehovah appeals to such ones: “Let us set matters straight between us.” (Isaiah 1:18) He will not reject any who sincerely seek his forgiveness.

Other prayers in the BibleThe Bible records many prayers. These show the variety of things we may pray about. For example:
Prayers of thanksgiving.—Psalm 92; John 11:41.
Prayers of praise.—1 Chronicles 29:10-13; Psalm 145.
Prayers for forgiveness.—Psalm 51; Daniel 9:4-19.
Prayers for guidance and wisdom.—1 Kings 3:5-9; Psalm 25:4, 5.
Prayers for relief from distress.—Psalm 4:1; 17:1.
Religion / Does Satan Personally Cause Every Tragedy? by slimchimex(m): 4:59am On Jul 24, 2022
While most people today do not suffer to the extent that Job did, tribulations of different kinds do afflict them. Many face persecution or family problems. Economic hardship or ill health can be devastating. Some have sacrificed their lives for their faith. Of course, we must not assume that Satan personally causes each tragedy that we suffer. Actually, some problems could even be caused by our own mistakes or by an inherited physical condition. (Galatians 6:7) And all of us are subject to the ravages of old age and natural disasters. The Bible makes clear that at the present time, Jehovah does not miraculously shield his servants from these afflictions.—Ecclesiastes 9:11.

Nevertheless, Satan may use the tribulations we suffer to undermine our faith. The apostle Paul mentioned being afflicted by “a thorn in the flesh, an angel of Satan,” that kept “slapping” him. (2 Corinthians 12:7) Whether this was a physical problem, such as poor eyesight, or something else, Paul understood that Satan could use the problem and resulting frustration to sap Paul of his joy and integrity. (Proverbs 24:10) Today, Satan may incite family members, schoolmates, or even dictatorial governments to persecute God’s servants in some way.

Jehovah described Job as a man who was “holding fast his integrity.” (Job 2:3) Despite feeling discouraged and not understanding why he suffered, Job never wavered on the vital issue of loyalty. Job refused to deny everything for which he had lived. He insisted: “Until I expire I shall not take away my integrity from myself!”—Job 27:5.20.

Similar determination will help us to maintain our integrity under any circumstances—in the face of temptations, opposition, or adversity. “Do not be afraid of the things you are about to suffer,” Jesus told the congregation in Smyrna. “Look! The Devil will keep on throwing some of you into prison that you may be fully put to the test, and that you may have tribulation [trouble, distress, or oppression] ten days. Prove yourself faithful even to death, and I will give you the crown of life.”—Revelation 2:10

Religion / Will Diplomacy Bring World Peace? The Bible’s Viewpoint by slimchimex(m): 11:42am On May 08, 2022
Will Diplomacy Bring World Peace?
WOULD you like to see an end to all wars? Surely there must be some diplomatic solution to national and international conflicts. Many feel that if world leaders simply worked together, war could be done away with. Likely, however, you are disappointed with the results of diplomacy. For centuries diplomats have ratified treaties, formulated resolutions, and held summit meetings, but few issues have been permanently resolved.

The Bible has much to say about diplomacy and peace. It answers the following questions: What factors presently prevent diplomacy from producing peace? Should Christians involve themselves in diplomacy? How will true peace finally be attained?

What Is Preventing Peace?
Several Bible accounts illustrate how person-to-person contact can lead to peace. For example, Abigail skillfully convinced David and his army not to avenge themselves on her household. (1 Samuel 25:18-35) Jesus gave an illustration of a king who had no reasonable recourse but to send out ambassadors to sue for peace. (Luke 14:31, 32) Yes, the Bible acknowledges that some forms of diplomacy can resolve conflicts. Why, then, do peace talks often meet with limited success?

The Bible accurately predicted that our times would be troublesome. Because of the wicked influence of Satan the Devil, men would not be “open to any agreement” but would be “fierce, without love of goodness, betrayers, headstrong, puffed up with pride.” (2 Timothy 3:3, 4; Revelation 12:12) In addition, Jesus prophesied that the conclusion of the present system of things would be marked by “wars and reports of wars.” (Mark 13:7, cool Who can deny that these have become increasingly prevalent? That being the case, is it any wonder that attempts at peace between nations often prove futile?

Also, consider this fact: While diplomats may try hard to avoid clashes, each one’s main objective is to advance his own nation’s interests. That is the bottom line of political diplomacy. Should Christians involve themselves in such matters?

Regardless of their motives, world diplomats have neither the ability nor the power to devise permanent solutions

Christians and Diplomacy
The Bible advises: “Do not put your trust in nobles, nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs.” (Psalm 146:3) This implies that regardless of their motives, world diplomats have neither the ability nor the power to devise permanent solutions.

When Jesus was on trial before Pontius Pilate, he stated: “My kingdom is no part of this world. If my kingdom were part of this world, my attendants would have fought that I should not be delivered up to the Jews. But, as it is, my kingdom is not from this source.” (John 18:36) Peace initiatives are often tainted with nationalistic hatred and political selfishness. Hence, true Christians avoid involvement in this world’s conflicts and its attempts at diplomacy.

Does that mean that Christians are apathetic and uninterested in world affairs? Are they insensitive to human suffering? No. On the contrary, the Bible describes God’s true worshipers as individuals who are “sighing and groaning” over the bad things that happen around them. (Ezekiel 9:4) Christians are simply relying on God to bring peace as he has promised. Is the end of war your idea of peace? God’s Kingdom will most certainly accomplish that. (Psalm 46:8, 9) But in addition, it will ensure the complete security and well-being of all earth’s inhabitants. (Micah 4:3, 4; Revelation 21:3, 4) Such a superior peace can never be attained by diplomacy or the efforts of human “peacekeeping” organizations.

Bible prophecy and past experience clearly indicate that trusting in human diplomacy to bring peace can only lead to disappointment. Those who rest their hope for peace on Jesus Christ and support God’s Kingdom will see their desire for true peace realized. What is more, they will enjoy it forever!—Psalm 37:11, 29.

Religion / Is The World Coming To An End? What Is The Apocalypse? by slimchimex(m): 11:18am On Jun 13, 2021
Is the World Coming to an End? What Is the Apocalypse?

What comes to your mind when you hear the word “apocalypse”? You might think of a global catastrophe, perhaps one that ends all life on earth. Some believe that the world is heading toward such a disaster, especially when they read news reports like the following:

“Nuclear war—whether started by design, blunder, or simple miscommunication—is a genuine possibility.”—Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists.

“The past decade has seen an astonishing run of record-breaking storms, forest fires, droughts, coral bleaching, heat waves, and floods around the world.”—National Geographic.

“Locust swarms in Africa are worst in decades.”—The Associated Press.

Will the earth be destroyed in a global apocalypse? What does the Bible say?
Will planet earth come to an end?

No. God’s Word, the Bible, assures us that the earth will remain forever. (Ecclesiastes 1:4) Rather than destroying the earth that he created, God will “bring to ruin those ruining the earth.”—Revelation 11:18.
Is the world coming to an end?

According to the Bible, the “world” that will come to an end is the world of mankind who disregard God and pursue selfish desires. Just as he did in the days of Noah, God will bring an end to “a world of ungodly people.”—2 Peter 2:5; 3:7.

As 1 John 2:17 states, “the world is passing away and so is its desire.” This verse shows that God will destroy, not the literal planet earth, but the people who persist in their ungodly desires.
When will the end come?

The Bible does not tell us exactly when the end will come. (Matthew 24:36) However, it does indicate that the end is close. The Bible foretells the following:

Events such as wars, food shortages, epidemics, and powerful earthquakes would occur “in one place after another.”—Matthew 24:3, 7, 14; Luke 21:10, 11; Revelation 6:1-8.

People in general would display extreme selfishness. For example, they would be “lovers of money,” “unthankful,” and “without self-control.”—2 Timothy 3:1-5.

Many people agree that since the year 1914, world conditions have matched what the Bible foretold and that the end is near. For more information, see the articles “What Does Bible Chronology Indicate About the Year 1914?” and “What Is the Sign of ‘the Last Days,’ or ‘End Times’?”
What is the meaning of “apocalypse” in the Bible?

The original Greek-language word translated “apocalypse” in the Bible basically means “uncovering” or “unveiling.” Often that word describes the revealing of information that had been hidden. The Bible also speaks of “the revelation [or, apocalypse] of the Lord Jesus,” which occurs when Jesus is revealed as the one with the power to rid the earth of all wicked influences and to reward those who worship God.—2 Thessalonians 1:6, 7; 1 Peter 1:7, 13.

The last book of the Bible is named A·po·kaʹly·psis, or Revelation, because it reveals future events. (Revelation 1:1) That book contains good news and a message of hope. (Revelation 1:3) It shows that God will eliminate all injustice and turn the earth into a paradise. At that time, humans will no longer experience pain, suffering, or even death.—Revelation 21:3, 4.

How does a person know that he or she has the heavenly calling? The answer is clearly seen in the apostle Paul’s words to those in Rome who were “called to be holy ones"

Roman's 8:15,16 says; "15 For you did not receive a spirit of slavery causing fear again, but you received a spirit of adoption as sons, by which spirit we cry out: “Abba, Father!”, 16 The spirit itself bears witness with our spirit that we are God’s children"

Romans 1:7 says To all those who are in Rome as God’s beloved ones, called to be holy ones: May you have undeserved kindness and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

So by means of his holy spirit, God makes it clear to anointed ones that they have this heavenly calling. Jehovah leaves no doubt whatsoever in the minds and hearts of those who receive his invitation to go to heaven. (1 John 2:20) Anointed Christians do not need anyone to confirm that they are anointed.

Religion / Did You Know: What Was The Origin Of The Synagogue by slimchimex(m): 10:13am On Apr 14, 2019
What Was The Origin Of The Synagogue?

THE word “synagogue” comes from a Greek word meaning “assembly” or “gathering together.” The name is fitting because synagogues have been places of assembly for instruction and worship in Jewish communities since ancient times. The Hebrew Scriptures make no clear reference to synagogues, but it is clear from the Christian Greek Scriptures that such gathering places were already well-established by the first century C.E.
Most scholars believe that synagogues originated during the Jewish captivity in Babylon. The Encyclopaedia Judaica reasons: “The Exiles, deprived of the Temple, in a strange land, feeling the need for consolation in their distress, would meet from time to time, probably on Sabbaths, and read the Scriptures.” On being released from their exile, the Jews evidently continued to meet for prayer and reading of the Scriptures, and they established synagogues wherever they settled.
By the first century C.E., synagogues had thus become the focus of Jewish religious and social life for communities scattered around the Mediterranean, throughout the Middle East, and in Israel itself. “[The synagogue] served as a place for study, sacred meals, court proceedings, depositing communal funds, and political and social meetings,” says Professor Lee Levine of The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. He adds: “Of central importance, of course, were the religious services.” It is not surprising, then, that Jesus frequently attended gatherings at synagogues. (Mark 1:21; 6:2; Luke 4:16) There he taught, exhorted, and encouraged those present. Following the establishment of the Christian congregation, the apostle Paul likewise did much preaching in synagogues. Those interested in spiritual things were naturally drawn to the synagogue, so when entering a city, Paul usually went first to the synagogue and preached there.—Acts 17:1, 2; 18:4

INTERNATIONAL DAY FOR THE ELIMINATION OF VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN ...

"“Not until the half of our population represented by women and girls can live free from fear, violence and everyday insecurity, can we truly say we live in a fair and equal world." — UN Secretary-General António Guterres.

Why We Must Eliminate Violence Against Women..

Technology Market / Is Now Official, Globacom Nigeria Is The World's Worst Network. by slimchimex(m): 6:28pm On Nov 10, 2017
GLOBACOM NIGERIA IS THE WORST TELECOMMUNICATION NETWORK ON EARTH..

Is four good weeks now Globacom network is completely down in Nasarawa State and Benue State. I can make calls, load my airtime or browse.
My 10gig data bundle about to expire, and I've used only 2 gigs. It pains my heart and soul when I manage to call customer care center only for them to tell me that there is no such problem in my location.
I then decided to go to their service center in Jos road, Lafia. On my arrival I met almost all the staff members sleeping as early as 10:30am. One of the staff members told me that they are experiencing the same network problem in their office, and that they cannot do anything to help me or themselves.
NCC should hold all network providers in the country to provide quality service delivery.
And guess what, am now officially 9 mobile customer..
