DelilahMakinde: What an absurd arrangement. Anyway an Ooni hasn't handed out any appointment letter since Sijuade. That is the function of the state governors now
Ok ooo...I stand corrected on the wrong dates.
Thanks
Yes. Things are changing. In the past, the Alaafin had to collect Ada (sword of state/justice) and Abere (sword of mercy) from Ife to be able to give judgement on execution when he is been enthroned.
DelilahMakinde: That was an administrative role. Ooni Aderemi doubled as premier of old western region. Not because of any cultural seniority. Aderemi enjoyed that dual role during his time.
There are strong signals that millions of candidates in the Southeast region may either miss or reschedule their ongoing WAEC examinations as the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have declared a total lockdown in the zone on May 30.
The lockdown, which is the first this year according to the IPOB, is in commemoration of Biafra heroes and heroines who paid the ultimate sacrifice for their present existence.
Media and Publicity Secretary of the IPOB, Emma Powerful, in a statement on Monday, stated that May 30th, 2025, is now designated a public holiday and a lockdown throughout Biafra Land.
He stated that the public holiday and lockdown are an annual Memorial and Remembrance Day for Biafra heroes and heroines among Biafrans.
He added, “Anticipation has begun as of May 1, 2025, with broadcasts from Radio Biafra and media awareness efforts by the IPOB media team. This month, IPOB will involve our audience in memorial lectures honoring Biafran heroes, both at home and abroad, just like in earlier years. The peak of the yearly memorial and remembrance event will occur on May 30th, 2025, known as the Biafra Heroes Memorial Day.
“It is a day designated by IPOB for Biafrans to commemorate and pay tribute to our heroes, heroines, and those who sacrificed their lives in the struggle for Biafra’s liberation and independence. The IPOB leadership has announced that May 30, 2025, will be a free day, marking a total lockdown for Biafrans residing in Biafra Land.”
Powerful stated that Biafrans residing in Biafra Land should observe a lockdown to pay tribute to those who battled and perished in the Nigerian genocidal war against Biafra while Biafrans fought for her independence.
“We need to commemorate them by spending one day indoors. We urge all Biafrans and every advocate of freedom in Biafra Land to comply with this one-day lockdown directive on May 30, 2025. All IPOB family members in their various countries must organize and obtain permits to demonstrate against the unlawful imprisonment of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and the illegal detention of Nnamdi Kanu in Nigeria. No protests will take place in Biafra or anywhere in Nigeria to prevent being harmed by the lethal Nigerian Security Forces.
“Biafrans abroad will gather in the streets of their host countries or organize town hall meetings to express their support in honoring our fallen heroes and advocating for the restoration of Biafra. IPOB and Ndigbo across the globe will pay tribute to all our fallen heroes and heroines, including our everlasting leader the late Dim Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu, Gen. Phillip Efiong, Chief Dr. Frank Opigo, Commander Ikonso, and numerous others who significantly contributed and fought to avert the genocide and destruction of Biafrans by the Nigerian and British governments along with their allied forces. Every year on May 30th is a significant day for all Biafrans. It is a public holiday for every citizen and non-citizen of Biafra living in Biafra territory,” he added.
The statement added that, with the exception of critical and emergency personnel such as ambulance drivers, police officers, nurses, doctors, firefighters, journalists, and NUPENG, other forms of movement are banned on the streets of Biafra from 6 AM to 6 PM on that day.
“All transportation by road, air, and sea is prohibited from 6 to 6 on May 30, 2025, which includes no human movement within our territory. There will be no school, no community meetings, no religious services, no opening of markets and stores, and no public assemblies of any kind. Simply stay inside and enjoy television and videos with your family while contemplating the memories and the genocide inflicted upon Biafrans from 1967 to the present day. It is a day for families to recount their experiences of the Biafran genocidal war from 1967 to 1970 and the ongoing victimization, destruction, and marginalization of the Ndigbo within Nigeria,” he added.
On WAEC examinations scheduled to hold on that day, Powerful stated that the group had already contacted the Examination Council to inform them of the lockdown directive in Biafran Land “so they can modify the May/June SSCE exams schedule to serve all students.”
“Messages have also been dispatched to the governors in the South East and South South regions to notify them that we will remember and pay tribute to our heroes and heroines who sacrificed everything for us with a lockdown mandate on May 30, 2025.
“IPOB implemented the lockdown directive due to the Nigerian violent government attacking and killing numerous Biafrans who assembled to honor our heroes in Biafra Land in previous years. We recommend that everyone refrain from going outside and remain indoors in your homes on May 30th to steer clear of gunfire from the ethnic prejudice of the Nigerian Police and Military, who will be present on the streets of Biafra seeking any chance to unjustly shed the blood of innocent Biafrans. If you decide to ignore this lockdown order, whatever occurs to you, please hold no one responsible,” he added.
Jokerman: We're are still looking for the legacy projects Tinubu built in Lagos State despite the "homongous" revenue.
Tinubu did not build a government house. Tinubu did not build an airport. Tinubu did not build a brewery. Tinubu did not build a stadium. Tinubu did not build a flyover. Tinubu did not build a specialist hospital.
What are Tinubu's legacy projects as Lagos State governor?
OKOATA: They will soon tell you he started Eko Atlantic. Bro better no start wetin you no fit finish. 😁
Lagos — LEKKI Free Trade Zone (LFTZ), the much celebrated multi-billion dollars bilateral business venture between Lagos State and the Chinese Investors has kicked off, with President Olusegun Obasanjo describing Governor Bola Tinubu of Lagos State as "a brilliant governor with brilliant ideas".
The LFTZ cited in Ibeju-Lekki local government area of the state, according to its managers, would occupy 1,000 hectares of land employing over 300,000 as workers on completion.
The Northern States’ Governors’ Forum and Northern States’ Traditional Rulers’ Councils have called on the National Assembly to expedite action on the enactment of the legal framework for the take-off of state police.
This is just as the governors and traditional rulers declared that they have found a way to resolve the concerns raised over the tax reform bills which they initially.
This was contained in a communiqué read by the chairman of the governors’ forum and Gombe State governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, after their meeting held at Sir Kashim Ibrahim Government House Kaduna on Saturday.
The meeting, which was attended by state governors and chairmen of the traditional rulers’ councils in the 19 northern states, lasted for over five hours.
At the end of the meeting, the chairman acknowledged the critical role of nonpartisan cooperation, collaboration, and peer review in effectively addressing the numerous developmental challenges confronting the northern region and the nation at large.
“The forum reiterated its support for the creation of the state police and called on the National Assembly to expedite action on the enactment of the legal framework for its take-off,” Governor Yahaya said.
He added: “After exhaustive deliberations on matters of regional interest, they commended President Bola Tinubu for his sustained commitment to addressing the security challenges and infrastructural deficits in Northern Nigeria.”
The forum resolved to liaise with the Nigerian Governors Forum to work out modalities of how to increase support to the federal security forces.
According to him, the forum also resolved to strengthen peculiar local initiatives in combating all forms of security challenges.
He also stated that the forum resolved to urgently set up inter-state platforms to coordinate surveillance on our joint borders.
“During our last meeting, the position we took on the tax reform bills engendered the reactions of a broad spectrum of Nigerians. I am pleased to report that through the platform of the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, the National Economic Council, and in consultation with leadership of the National Assembly, we found a way forward that will lead to a mutually beneficial resolution of the matter.
“This demonstrates the power of constructive engagement and I commend Mr President for his listening ear and commitment to inclusive governance.
“We recommend that, going forward, such collaborative approach should guide all matters of intergovernmental relations in the interest of the people,” he further said.
He, however, lamented that the state of infrastructure in Northern Nigeria remains a cause for major concern.
He said, “While we acknowledge President Tinubu’s commitment to completing the ongoing Kaduna-Kano-Katsina-Maradi rail line, the Abuja-Kaduna-Kano expressway, and the AKK gas pipeline among many others, other projects like the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri rail line, Kano-Maiduguri expressway, and Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe-Biu expressway, which were awarded in the past, remain in a serious state of neglect.”
Earlier, the host governor, Senator Uba Sani, said the forum and council of traditional rulers are unique in many respects.
He said, “Despite our diversity, the two bodies have found a way of arriving at a consensus on critical issues and marching forward as united platforms. This approach has solidified Northern unity and garnered national respect for the forum and council. We must continue in this spirit.
“We have made progress on many fronts. But challenges remain. I urge us to hasten the development of a roadmap for addressing issues of security, peace, governance and development in Northern Nigeria.
“Additionally, we must follow up the roadmap with an implementation and funding strategy. We don’t have luxury of time. Our people want results.
“I must not conclude this welcome address without commending President Bola Tinubu for his unwavering commitment to addressing the infrastructural deficits in Northern Nigeria.
“One of Mr President’s key interventions in our region is the long-abandoned Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Dual Carriageway. The road connects the Federal Capital Territory to about 12 states in the North Central, North West and North East Zones.”
In a related development, governors from the North-Western part of the country, who also met in Kaduna State on Friday night, also disclosed that they have charted ways to address issues of insecurity, unemployment and excessive use of drugs that are bedeviling the zone.
Chairman of the North-West Governors’ Forum and Governor of Katsina State, Umar Dikko Radda, while speaking with newsmen early on Saturday morning, disclosed that the seven North-West states have agreed to work together to bring about the necessary development needed in the region.
“We just concluded our meeting and the deliberation was very fruitful. We had a long discussion on issues bothering challenges affecting our region and we have had presentations from Northwest Development Commission, as well as the Federal Medical University, Funtua for the region.
“We also discussed on issues of drug abuse and how to prevent excessive use of drugs in the region and other collaborations.
“We have all agreed to work together on these issues raised in order to bring the necessary development that is needed in the region,” Radda said.
