Politics › Eight Rep members defect to APC, PDP by Slytiger(op): 5:23am On May 07, 2025 |
Six members of the House of Representatives from Delta State and their two counterparts from Enugu have announced their defection from their former parties to new political platforms.
While the six members from Delta state announced their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress, the two members from Enugu state swapped the Labour Party for the PDP.
The letters of defection from the members were read on the floor of the House at the resumption of plenary on Tuesday.
The defecting members from Delta were led by the Leader of the Southern regional caucus of the three House and the longest-serving member, Nicholas Mutu (Bomadi), who has been in the House on the platform of the PDP since 1999.
Other defecting members include Nnamdi Ezechi (Ndokwa/Nkwuani), Jonathan Okodiko (Isoko), Thomas Eriyetomi (Warri), Julius Pondi (Burutu), and Victor Nwokolo (Ika North and South).
Those who left LP are Mark Obetta (Nsukka/Igboeze South of Enugu state and Dennis Agbo (Igbo Eze North/Udenu).
The defectors anchored their reasons for seeking fresh political platforms on the crises rocking their former parties across all levels.
Recall that the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori, and the former Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, left the Peoples Democratic Party two weeks ago to join the All Progressives Congress.

Politics › Peter Obi’s Strong Ally, Obaze Dumps Labour Party by Slytiger(op): 3:19pm On May 04, 2025 |
Mr Oseloka H. Obaze, a key ally of Mr Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 general elections, has resigned his membership of the party.
Obaze disclosed this in a letter addressed to LP Chairman in Ochuche Ward 406, Ogbaru Local Government in Awka on Sunday.
Obaze, a former United Nations Diplomat was the Secretary to Anambra Government under Obi and had worked closely with him as an adviser and chieftain of the party until his resignation from LP.
He said his decision was to express his disapproval and protest the conduct of the April 5 governorship primary election of the party in Anambra.
According to him, by virtue of this letter, I hereby tender my resignation from the Labour Party (LP).
“The processes, conduct and outcome of the Labour Party governorship primaries held on April 5, 2025 in Awka, were fraught with outright irregularities, bothering on fraud and criminality.
“It was not in tandem with either the party’s Constitution and espoused core values or true tenets of democracy.
"As such, I hereby disassociate myself henceforth from the Labour Party,” he said.
Obaze told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that “the letter was real and speaks for itself".
Obaze also cited the leadership crisis in the LP at the national level and the refusal of leaders of the party to harmonise or reconcile the Julius Abure and Sen. Nenadi Usman factions.
He however did not disclose his next political moves.
Obaze resigned from PDP in 2022, one week ahead of Peter Obi, to the Labour Party.
He subsequently became Peter Obi’s campaign manager and one of the prominent brains behind the Obedient Movement. https://pmnewsnigeria.com/2025/05/04/peter-obis-strong-ally-obaze-dumps-labour-party/

ClearFlair: It was never like this before AP__ Lol. Yeah right. We know how the Fulani and the Hausas were tribally taunted and insulted for the 8 years of Buhari. One Reverend called Muonso from Anambra even called Buhari a brain dead cow and said 1 igbo man equals 500 Hausa men. The irony, Buhari is not even Hausa. KingAzubuike: Onakaya dey there dey play chess when igbo boys dey make cool money for Oshodi arena, ladipo and alaba. That's the problem why thousands of your people are locked up in jails abroad for drug offences. Everything to you is about money and hustling. |

Interestingly, the girl that was in the picture the man referred to used to be in an IDP camp in the North and she is from Adamawa State.
But some people are quick to call others tribalist even when they gave one man from their own region over 90% of their vote, while the ones they call tribalist only gave their own kinsman around 50%. |

Politics › Abia Workers Beg Gov Otti To Pay N70,000 New Minimum Wage by Slytiger(op): 11:06am On May 02, 2025 |
The organised labour in Abia has appealed to Governor Alex Otti to ensure the implementation of the new minimum wage of N70,000 for some categories of workers.
The organised labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress, made this appeal during the 2025 May Day celebration on Thursday in Umuahia.
The state NLC chairman, Ogbonnaya Okoro, delivered the joint address prepared by him and his TUC counterpart, Ihechi Enogwe.
Mr Okoro listed the people affected, including environmental health officers, health workers in the ministries, and Abia State University Teaching Hospital, Aba. According to him, veterinary officers in the Ministry of Agriculture and local government areas, the Ministry of Social and Women Affairs and the Secondary Education Management Board are also affected.
Mr Okoro said the unions could not guarantee industrial peace in those sectors, for anything short of the minimum wage implementation.
He expressed deep appreciation to the governor for successfully negotiating and implementing the new minimum wage for the state and local government workers.
The NLC chairman further thanked the governor for his outstanding work since he assumed office, especially in infrastructural development, education and agriculture.
He further called the attention of the governor to the outstanding arrears of the minimum wage and its consequential adjustment.
Mr Okoro commended the governor for rolling out the contributory pension scheme for the state workers. He, however, urged the state government to complement the contributory pension scheme by contributing its own percentage.
Mr Okoro decried the arbitrary and high taxation on workers’ salaries while urging the governor’s intervention on what he described as “economic evil imposed on Abia workers.”
Responding, the governor said he had paid careful attention to all the requests and assured that they would be painstakingly considered.
Otti said that his administration would continue to prioritise the welfare of workers in the state and appreciate them for their contributions to the economy.
He assured the workers of prompt and regular payment of their salaries, usually on or before the 28th of every month.
Mr Otti said his administration had since assumed office in 2023, defrayed over N30 billion salary arrears owed to workers by his predecessor.
He said the government would continue engaging and interacting with workers in building a new Abia.

Viccur: He is not poor, plus he's domiciled abroad. He doesn't qualify as an ordinary man. Even the Ooni was abroad before he was crowned. He is neither wealthy nor poor. He is not as rich as Gbadegesin that is very wealthy. The current alaafin was a project coordinator with Manitoba hydro. They don't even make 100k dollars a year. To a lot of Nigerian billionaire, that's not much money. And in Canada, that's an average income as well. I make much more than that and I don't see myself as wealthy. |

Viccur: Ooni is a wealthy man as well. I was an undergraduate in OAU when he came on, we saw his doings, e no small. I am not saying he is not rich or wealthy, but he wasn't a billionaire before becoming an Ooni. He was basically working for his elder brother, the one that is the billionaire and extremely rich. |

Viccur: The Oonis are usually wealthy, reason the gods do not pick a man still struggling with his finances Lol. This is not true. The throne itself makes people wealthy. That's why people try to influence the kingmakers with money and all sorts to attain those throne. The one ifa really chose without financial influence is the recent one from at Oyo. He is an average man from Canada unlike the extremely wealthy ones that the Oyo mesi chose. Come back in 2 or 3 years, the current Alaafin would become extremely wealthy too. |

DeLaRue: Only God knows how much someone like Ooni spends on a monthly basis.
When I think of the monthly expenses of my modest self, Ooni's monthly expenses will be mouth watering. How does he cope Each wife probably needs N5m or more per month in maintenance.
I don't think the amount he gets from the State/local government monthly can cover 20% of what he spends.
Rolls Royces, Private jets, Helicopters, best hotels, entourage, high-maintenance wives, best schools for children etc
To be Ooni no be small thing o. temitope27: Ooni is a real estate mogul, he's so rich himself There are lots of money made from farming around Ife and other towns around Ife (with appointed lesser Kings) under the Ooni that remit percentages that goes to the palace. I am talking in the 100 million a year in revenue. All these were set up under Ooni Sijuade. I was close to the last Ooni. There are gold mining operations by Chinese companies too. Some royalties also goes to the palace. It's delulu to think he is spending his personal money. |

Finally. Igbanke people have freed themselves from the intimidation of the Benin people. Congrats to them, and i rejoice with them.
What Benin people should realise is that Edo state is not homogeneous. Not everyone in Edo state is Edoid. Despite the misinformation of Benin people all over tiktok and other social media, you can't force people that are not Edo to be Edoid. Same Benin people have that stronghold over some other minorities in the SS.
The Usen in Edo state are Yorubas that are closely related to Owo and Ikale. Sooner, or later, the Usen will be free too.
