Science/Technology / Mobile Phone Portability! by smartkulk(m): 2:04pm On Apr 29, 2013
For mobile telecommunication service providers in Nigeria, it is contest time but for their customers, it is payback time. Customers now have the privilege of taking the whole of the eleven digits of their mobile phone number to their dream network. Personally, I am very dissatisfied with the service of MTN and I have waited so long for this day and this opportunity. I may not have made up my mind as to the network I am porting to but one thing is sure, I am wishing MTN farewell.
I am very sure there are several other MTN subscribers who need to port and who are actually going to port to other networks. Feel free to drop your comments and let's know which network you are porting to. As for me and my household we are saying good bye to MTN and welcome to either Etisalat or Airtel!

NYSC / Re: Say Yes Or No To Nysc by smartkulk(m): 11:34am On May 20, 2008
NYSC programme to a section of graduating students means fun but they never realise this fun is gonna last for one good year, a year that could have been spent in consolidating what has been learnt in school and transform it into a profitable idea that would generate regular income.
Afterall, another section of students boycott NYSC by just attending the two weeks orientation camp and get someone who would earn their monthly allowance and fill the space for them while they go on with other business of life. However, certain sections of students don't even bother to appear for neither the orientation camp or at their primary place of assignment and they still get what others get at the end of the NYSC programme.
According to the Act that established NYSC,two sets of people are exempted from serving:Anyone above 30years of age and anyone that has served in a military or police force.
If all these have been happening and even worst would still happen,I would encourage like minded people to join in the campaign to repeal the NYSC Act.I believe we can achieve this by joining our voices together and present our case before the National assembly while a senator sponsors this bill on our behalf.
If government would not ammend the NYSC Act to suit the demands of students then let it be disregarded.JOIN THE VOICE OF THE GREAT NIGERIAN STUDENT!

NYSC / Say Yes Or No To Nysc by smartkulk(m): 1:04pm On May 19, 2008
The National Youth Service Corp (NYSC) as the programme is called was instituted by NYSC Act 1973.The programme was established specifically to see to some issues part of which is to provide capital for fresh graduates from Federal govt. institutions to finance their creative ideas. Then, adequate car loans and other facilities were provided for fresh graduates to help live a well defined life.
The purpose of the NYSC Act has been abused and it's no longer what it used to be and several attempts have been made by stakeholders to amend this Act but to no avail.
I'm embarassed these days when I see graduates who have spent more than due years in school and still clamouring to waste an additional year all in the name of NYSC (Now Your Suffering Continues). You see ladies and guys who are ripe for marriage putting on the NYSC Khaki.
To this extent, I call on Nigerians to express themselves on this issue by participating in this poll.

Literature / The 3 Wise Men by smartkulk(m): 2:36pm On Dec 10, 2007
The Christmas carol "We Three Kings" tells the story of the Wise Men from the East who brought gifts to the baby Jesus. But who were the Three Kings, otherwise known as the Magi or Wise Men, and were they really royal?

According to tradition dating back to medieval times, their names were Balthasar, Gaspar (or Casper), and Melchior. They are often depicted as representing the three races. The Bible says they came from the East, but exactly where is not known. Arabia, Babylon, and Persia are popular choices. According to one tradition, Balthasar was king of Arabia, Gaspar was king of India, and Melchior was king of Persia.

An 8th century saint, Bede the Venerable, described the kings this way: "The first was called Melchior; he was an old man, with white hair and long beard; he offered gold to the Lord as to his king. The second, Gaspar by name, young, beardless, of ruddy hue, offered to Jesus his gift of incense, the homage due to Divinity. The third, of black complexion, with heavy beard, was called Baltasar; the myrrh he held in his hands prefigured the death of the Son of man."

The Bible, however, does not describe the kings or reveal their names. In fact, it does not call them kings at all, but simply Magi, or Wise Men. The Magi were a Median priestly caste who rose to power in ancient Persia (today's Iran). Their religion, Zoroastrianism, was founded around the 6th century BC by a Median man named Zoroaster. The Magi were held in awe as highly educated scientists and scholars who could interpret dreams and even control demons.

The Magi of the Nativity were probably important men in their own country and may well have been of noble or royal birth, but there is no evidence to back this up. The idea that they were kings arose in the Middle Ages and was based on earlier Biblical prophecies about kings bearing gifts.

We can't even say for sure how many Magi visited Jesus. The Bible does not specify three. According to Eastern tradition, the number was 12. The Western tradition of three wise men probably arises from the three gifts they brought to Jesus.

Tradition has it that in later years the Wise Men were baptized by St. Thomas the Apostle; all three became bishops and spent the rest of their lives spreading Christianity, and at the end of their lives they each saw the Star of Bethlehem again and were reunited. One legend says that they were over 100 years old when they met to celebate Christmas, then died within a few days of each other.

Their purported remains were brought to Constantinople by St. Helena, mother of the 4th century Roman emperor Constantine the Great, and later moved to Milan. In the 12th century they fell into the hands of Holy Roman emperor Frederick Barbarossa, who gave them to the Archbishop of Cologne, Germany. The archbishop built a cathedral for the relics in Cologne, where they remain to this day.

The carol "We Three Kings" was written in 1857 by an American minister, John Henry Hopkins Jr., for use in a Christmas pageant.

Literature / Re: WHERE LL YOU GO? Library Or Internet by smartkulk(m): 4:09pm On Nov 21, 2007
In recent times there was a saying that if you want to keep something away from a black man put it in a book but I believe we have grown out of this and this is evident in our society.I insist that it is pleasure and fun hanging or surfing on the internet than having a book in your hand and staring at it.
Literature / WHERE LL YOU GO? Library Or Internet by smartkulk(m): 4:31pm On Nov 20, 2007
The internet has in a way drawn more people to itself than the traditional library we use to know. Many people prefer to be on the internet to going to library. The library is said to be limited in resources but your mind is your limit when you are on the internet.Eventhough the library is incorporating the internet as part of its resources but the simple fact still remains that the internet is the grand father of all libraries.
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Digital Adverts by smartkulk(m): 11:39am On Nov 15, 2007
Can anyone suggests any part of Nigeria where a digital advert board is erected. If you have observed, they are not common in this part of the world, what we see is the regular wallpapers transfered on papers. We can make a difference and it starts from here.I ll like to say this, what we see today and marvel at did not just come up in a day, it started gradually. What I'm saying in essence is that whoever is interested in this project may signify his/her interest on this forum.
Art, Graphics & Video / Digital Adverts by smartkulk(m): 4:23pm On Nov 12, 2007
Advertisements if you have really observed is more than what is common around us today. There is this innovation of digital adverts, it is all about experts gathering their intellectual resources (i.e. graphical artists, software developers e.t.c.) to present ideas in form of advertisements to promote products of companies and beautify the environmen.Interested individuals may signify their response on this forum.
Travel / Re: Uk Visa - Visa Appeal Process by smartkulk(m): 11:52am On Oct 07, 2007
hello people, i must commend the effort of some pple that have been contributing on this topic, u guys have been wonderful, u advise as if we are blood brothers,God will continue to bless you.
[b]I was denied a study visa on the4th of Oct this year, with a right to appeal, here are the details; They found the account relevant and said that my sponsor i claimed is also responsible for my mum, that how can he be able to support my education with responsibilty for my mum, funny enuf the count contain 71,000pounds and all the money i need for tution n other xpenses is arnd 21,000pounds,i dont knw wat they mean by dat. Also they said, for the money in d account,i didnt show how the income is been realised.Imagine, i submitted a reciept from one of my sponsor's company indicating at least almost 1.2million naira per day, funny enuf they misplaced the reciept, it didnt get to the embassy cos it was not returned with the documents i submitted.
In short, they didnt have a cogent reason for the refusal,no allegation of forgery of any kind, so my able people in the house, i need ur urgent contribution on wat i shd do.I planned re-applyin for January admission and also appeal.

Havin watched both 24 n prison break, here re my analysis:I ll say everybit of PB right from d beginning was interestin,24 started slowly infact u may be pissed off wit d 1st season but along d way it became interesting n more violent than PB (hw many pple do u think died in 24?).Subsequently in 24 Jack bauer became a spiderman, imagine dat scene where he went 2 rescue Senator Heller n his daughter,hw many pple did Jack alone killed, dat was film trick bt PB s full of wat actually cld happen in real life.If u ask me everybody in PB are all actors but Jack s d only actor in 24.With all these I think I ve convinced everyone dat PRISONBREAK IS D BOMB
