Please have been observing you for long now and your words are been indirectly targeted to me  just stay cool and don't get me Vex  i can post any topic as long as it's own my mind,  since i can't stop people and ask them  i can ask people what they feel  so you can't tell me where to belong or something !

oh sorry i mean to say why do graphic designers call themselves Web Designer too okay lets takes yours for instance,  to me i think ajayi you are a web person  you have dreamweaver on your system doesn't make you Web Designer Automatically

first off, Web Designs is 100% differents from graphic designs, 

Web Design = HTML+ CSS+Flash

Graphic Design = Print + media+Ad

You see have known yawa for sometime now  but she will never say she his a web designer despite the fact she knows what makes a good design

Design is all about creativity and all that,  you must pay attention with colours combination very very well if you not creativity inclined how do you know a good design ?  is not all about slicing and dicing   for some days now reading the CSS tutorials yawa sent  i concluded to be known as a Visual Person,  i like what Web Monkey said, some are just born creative

if i'm designing a web i go for CSS +XHTML + Flash (if necc.) and imagery to places neccessary  and if i'm working on print  i make sure i put in my creativity to work

A Competent Web Designer is someone who utilises full XHTML code and CSS styles all of which is hand coded too. However, a few graphics designers I know think they know all about creating web pages because they use Dreamweaver!  And a web page is more than just HTML code and graphics - its about accessibility and interoperability these days too.

A Web Designer who use images+ Flash and then uploads is not a Web Designer But a Graphic Director

Just because you have Dreamweaver on your PC doesn't make you a Web Designer, a graphic designer produce for print and web designer produce for web

alot of guys just call them selves web designer because you can slice up one photoshop images and add some functioning code and you upload don't make you one  after reading some CSS i got from  yawa and some other CSS article i had to change my Mindset thanks to yawa

But some peeps i know here now are Web Designers now  i can't mention names but atleast one of them has change his website to full CSS  and XHTML putting images where it suppose to be  not using image for a link  that can't work for me  anymore  i had to change my mindset  and if i'm producing any web raleted job   i'm purely going for CSS-XHTML-FLash and imagery at neccessary place but making it 90% CSS is even better.


I'm an “art director, with a company” what they were looking for was  just a contract Web-designer now the issue is this if they want to talk about web stuff,  they say " Hey we need some kind of image, image this image that" i told them see if you want me on contract on Web Stuff, you better take a graphic Director i can't start designing some graphics and at the same time still be on your web or better still if you want ART Director,  i can do that and you go look for a web man outside" at the end of the day i settle for Art Directing  now they got another person for ART Director and why i adjust to be the Web Architect

Now why all this,  i told them graphics designer aren't samething with Web Designer  i guess the word "Designing is really confusing you guys more" regardless of what medium I am currently working in. I think the distinctions being drawn between what type of designer you may be is good for defining a niche, but at what cost? what is really confusing people is the " Design " thing at the back   those peeps that program and design crap website are not website designers for goodness sake they are Programmers just because they have 20% knowlegde on FW, PS, DW don't make them graphic designer


Like a guy here humm,  he has an office his a good programmer but when i had to go see @ his office i saw some guys working on designs why he concetrates on the backend,  but all the same the companies out there calls them Web Design Company

Conclusion : If you are a Web Designer is your choice, and if you want to be Graphic Designer it is your choice too,  and also you want to be the both fine

Creative Design Agency aren't Web Design Agency

Creative Design Agency = Branding, Advert, all marketing material design, and web is included as a marketing thing

Web design Agency = Web Design + Development Only,  that saves the headache.

Why are most graphic designers calling them selves Web Designer ? i'm just curious and they say curiousity kills the cat  but i don't want to end up like that of a cat  lol but is kind of wired seeing some graphic designer steping up to become web designer

In my own experience  Web Designer and Graphic Designer are not samething and you can't compare both of them  it pains me that it is only here in nigeria you will find in daily guardian where an employee will put up an AD saying we need Graphic/Web designer and they can't even pay for it  if you want to be a web designer better if you want graphic designer better

there this mindset that people carries about  they feel everyone who does graphics must know web and vice versa

You as a graphic designer what do you think

well before i chip in my quota i would want you to change that heading to Web Design VS Graphic Design or  Web designer VS Graphic Designer

What makes a good TV AD ? ( Commercial) everybody knows TV is another good way of advertising what do you think about the industry,  2008 what TV AD do you like Soji i know you got some stuff to unleashed

Smartsoft, imagine if a high school buddy of yours is now the marketing director of a multinational. He wants to swing some business your way and you are asked to do an entire branding for a new product. Will you present it on your laptop?
Showing stuff on your laptop is highly unprofessional if you ask me, especially if you want to do business with corporate bodies.
Another thing is meeting place. If you are not making a proper presentation in your client's office, please do not meet in eateries. That is soo bad.

there is a whole lot, when talking about dumping images to your database, you must create a temp file on your server and emmmmmmmmmmmmmmm hang brb,

Okay heheheh soji you have pushed me to hit the nail on the head  well is a church thing and i was hooked to them since i go to same church with MR. A who introduce me to the boss but he works with the production house at the HQ this is how it all happened.

Let says you are Mr A, i did a site for your production Company and when you asked who design the site,  they told you i was the one  MR. S(smartsoft) now you and i which is MR A and S attends a well known church  and MR A is involve in the Church Production House too in nigeria  Now you production Boss  asked you " Mr. A do you know we need a website designer/ Motion Graphic designer to work on a project? please if you know someone that does that, kindly let me know " then MR A called  on phone Mr. D, headquater needs a website designer/motion graphic designer to work on a project for them just come and show them want you've done before okay i will be expecting you in the church tomorrow  he puts a call accross to the boss and the boss said i should meet her next morning.

Okay Mr. S(smartsoft) was at the church, the boss was there, P.A and  including Mr A was there too they were all there  i showed them portfolios and immediately MR. A said don't worry this and that,  he will design a mock-up for us

Boss : "Okay Mr S do a mock-up for us lets see,  and bring it on tuesday [b]"2nd Dec 2008"

Mr. S was there at the church and put a call to the P.A

P.A : Mr. S wait a min, i will be with you shortly.

P.A :  Mr,  S sorry for keeping you waiting,  can i have look at the demo?

Mr. S : brought out my Laptop and show her

P.A :   hummm but you will have to change this change that  and my boss is in the meeting wait let me see if she can make it out.

P.A : she went away

P.A : came back 5mins after "she can't make it out  but send it to her email : blahblah@yahoo.com and she will reply you when she sees it.

Mr. S : Okay i will do just that

P.A : Thank you Mr. S

well you guys are really making sense, if i didn't use the prefessional word mock-up, that doesn't mean i don't know what it means, anyway you see why i throw up this question is because all clients are not same thing, i could remember two site i created last month they just saw portfolio and the second day, they wrote a cheque and we started all info followed.

If your fee is getting up 200, 000 for the design and everything, don't be suprise that you will be ask to create a mock -up for them to see, all prototype i design are on jpegs, but for you not to loose the client, you can't stand the test of arguement, since they are paying for it, okay the more reason i had to even put up this issue is because of the demo i created and i'm been asked to send it to the person in charge via email, though i was there and the P.A saw it and told me her boss is in the meeting i should send it to her email for her to see it,

Now, if they want any changes just like what the P.A said, i will just tell them that will be done if we've come to a proper agreement, and all what they want will be sorted out and they will be carried along.

i can't just start editing an ordinary demo, if they accept fine if them no accept no lele, some clients can be so fraustrating, at times especially if the money involve is huge, or what do you think?

so peeps who pays close to 50-70 are not even hard as this people.
