BusinessMTN Uganda Fined $662, 000 For Sabotaging Business by smuth(op):
Uganda’s Commercial court has ordered MTN Uganda to pay a sum of Shs
2.3bn (about $662,000) which is about N190 million in damages to
EzeeMoney Limited for sabotaging its business. It all started when
EzeeMoney, which runs an e-money business, obtained a contract from MTN
for the provision of digital transmission [E1] and 30 fixed telephone
lines to carry out its mobile money business.

After agreeing to the terms of the contract, EzeeMoney then contracted
Yo! Uganda Limited (YUL) to implement the service after Uganda
Communications Commission, the regulator, approved it on December 2012,
to use the 7711 short code to enable its customers to subscribe for
e-money services. However in 2013, MTN after doing a review of the
contract, canceled it, saying EzeeMoney was a direct competitor to its
mobile money business.

Through AF Mpanga and company advocates, EzeeMoney went to court, saying
MTN’s action “restricted and distorted competition.”

EzeeMoney said MTN also damaged its ties with YUL and deprived it of
services of other telecommunications operators. It argued that MTN used
its exclusivity agreements to stop its agents from working for any other
firm with similar business, further limiting competition.

Delivering judgement in a suit filed by Ezeemoney limited on November
6th, the presiding judge, Justice Henry Peter Adonyo ordered MTN to
stop acting in an unlawful and anti-competitive manner, which denies
other businesses an opportunity to prosper. Justice Adonyo said MTN
should pay Shs 800m to EzeeMoney in general damages for loss of
business.

He also directed the telecommunications company to pay a penalty of Shs
1.5bn in punitive damages to deter not only MTN but also warn other
companies against uncompetitive business tactics.

1. Why should the government spend such a huge amount of money is a complicated question but worth answering. The government was indeed spending way much more before the advent of TSA. PMB's government had written to Systemspecs that considering the extension the scope of the project, they called first for a return of all monies collected and for a downward review

2. Recall that GEJ signed the contract, which in itself is not bad. What the GEJ government did not forsee was that a contract of this nature had an expanded scope.

3. Saying Remita software can be purchased for 5k at computer village, gives you away as very naive. I can understand you probably do not know about softwares and nature of software contracts. Remita is not a software on CD/DVD. It is a solution hosted on SystemSpecs platform and offered to the world as service. So your question of if government should just "buy" the Remita is most absurd
Indications have emerged debunking recent media reports that former President Goodluck Jonathan was responsible for signing the contract with SystemSpecs, the owners of Remita software, which is currently being used for the implementation of President Muhammadu Buhari’s proposed Treasury Single Account (TSA)

The media reports comes on the heels of revelations that at least N25 billion have been paid to SystemSpecs, amounting to 1% of all monies remitted to the TSA.

According to investigations by the Hope For Nigeria group, Mallam Umar Sani, the former Senior Special Adviser to former Vice President Namadi Sambo availed that the immediate past government never signed any agreement with SystemSpec.

He said: “The government as at that time began the implementation of TSA through the Government Integrated Financial Management Information System (GIFMIS), a World Bank assisted Project domiciled in the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation and it is through GIFMIS that all government Budget (Personnel, Overhead, Capital, Transfers etc) transactions are carried out, so why do they need Remitta?

“I can categorically tell you that it is the new Accountant General, Mallam Ahmed Idris, that put forward the Remitta proposal, but some other Directors led by the Director, Funds (Dikwa) vehemently opposed it on the grounds that government cannot have more than one payment platform and instead of using Remita to implement TSA, GIFMIS should be used”.

Also speaking on the issue, an official at the Federal Ministry of Finance who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that the “outrageous” agreement with SystemSpec on the use of REMITA software as a payment platform has nothing to do former President Goodluck Jonathan, as they did not sign any agreement.

Also speaking to the group on Friday, November 13, 2015, an official of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) availed that the apex bank has its own bespoke software for e-Payments and e-Collections, adding that there is no need for the use of REMITA.

CareerRe: 4 Big Career Lessons Managers Can Learn From Mourinho And Chelsea Slump by smuth(m): 6:43pm On Nov 16, 2015
Don4life:
Is is not supposed to be a guide to failing Managers like Mourinho. It is not even a piece of advice; it’s merely some rant by me, a Barcelona fan, who derives pleasure from seeing Chelsea and Mourinho play badly. For the Chelsea fans who have the privilege (or misfortune) of reading reading this piece; this is my opinion, not Jobberman’s.

With that said, let’s get down to it, shall we?

Career Lesson One

Story:
Chelsea FC have only won ONE Champions league trophy and I remember vividly that after that final, the only set of football fans who ‘had the right’ to speak at viewing centres were Chelsea fans. The rest of us dared not, even though at the time fans of FC Barcelona, Manchester United, FC Bayern, R.Madrid, Juventus and a few others had won (or celebrated winning) that same trophy multiple times. But Chelsea got it once and all hell was let loose; they just wouldn’t let us rest anymore.

Again, Mourinho is famous for repeatedly insisting that Arsene Wenger is a ‘specialist in failure’. The guy sees every pre and post match press conference as an opportunity to rant, complain and insult the person of Arsene; that’s more like his favorite pastime. Well, I bring good news; the dude called Mourinho now wins just one match in every month. Now, who’s the specialist in failure? I can’t laugh abeg.

Lesson:
Enjoy your success, but don’t rub it in the faces of other people.

Career Lesson Two

Story:
Chelsea sacked the only coach to have ever gotten them the Champions league trophy (what Mourinho would never be able to do for them) just a season after. The guy was dismissed like he never did anything good for them — the same idiotic way some bosses dismiss their secretaries/typists after a small typo.

Fast-forward to 2015, Mourinho in his characteristic autocratic manner ‘disciplined and dismissed’ the pretty, affable and reliable team physio, Eva Carneiro over some flimsy and almost irrelevant on-field situation. By the way, the Physio was clearly doing her job by attending to the injured Chelsea player– I think it was Hazard…or err Fabregas; can’t really remember, I hardly watch Chelsea matches — they bore me.

Need I remind everyone that that was the beginning of the slump for Chelsea and Mourinho. Apparently, the lady wasn’t just a Physio, she was very integral to the team, she had some influence and even though her impact might not have been very visible on the surface, they only had to let her go to realize their folly. There are people like that in every team. I like to believe that that event affected the team morale and see where they are on the table today — too low for me to even see.

Lesson:
Don’t Sack Your Eva Carneiro.

Career Lesson Three

Story:
Mourinho has a terrible attitude: he blames everyone but himself when things go awry. Many examples come to mind, but one is fresh. When Chelsea lost to Southampton earlier this season in the premiership, Mourinho cleverly brought in Matic, a defensive midfielder, when he needed to score. Now Mourinho perhaps had seen that that match was a lost cause and wanted to take the media attention away from him. Guess what the ‘special one’ did: baba brought in Matic, waited for Chelsea to concede an inevitable goal and almost immediately removed Matic again.

Now the uninitiated in the mind-games of Mourinho would not easily understand that move, but I will enlighten you. By removing Matic after Chelsea conceded that goal, Mourinho cleverly diverted media attention away from himself, and summarily made the Matic the scape-goat by simply making it appear like Matic was responsible for that goal and he had to be removed. In the end, most people blamed Matic, not Mourinho for the loss.

Lesson:
Prepare for downtime. Things will not always go right and when they eventually go wrong, don’t
push the blame to others, take responsibility and man up.

Career Lesson Four

Story:
Mourinho has a consciousness of self that is unrivaled. The man exhibits the highest form of self-love (or selfishness). When he first came to Chelsea after winning the Champions league with Porto, the guy ceremoniously announced to the English media that he was ‘the special one‘. He had a brilliant spell thereafter. Correct me if I’m wrong, I think he later announced himself as ‘the only one‘ (can’t remember if that was in England, Italy, or Spain).

Frankly, Mourinho is a great coach and winner. But the guy doesn’t just praise his teams as much as one would expect especially as his success is largely tied to the efforts of his players. Mourinho however takes more of the accolades for himself. Mourinho competes with his star players for glory and attention.

Lesson:
It’s okay to give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done, but it’s better when you do
more of same to your team. You might be special, but you equally need a great team to succeed.

Pheww…that’s all folks!

To all Chelsea fans, Don't mind this mumu...Mourinho still remain the most successful coach of all the coaches currently coaching in the English premier league...if you like hug transformer or add cement to your garri if you still hate him.

Asene Wenger still remains a specialist in failure until he wins the cover of the champions league cup.

Chelsea still remains the defending champions of the premiership until the end of the season.

We fall together to rise up.

Not always about the money...go for glory, a good name is far better than gold and silver.
BusinessHe didnt make a penny on the USB he invented, Yet not bordered about the money. by smuth(op):
Intel’s Chief Systems Technologist Ajay Bhatt created the USB technology.

The USB — which turns 20 years old on Sunday — is now used in more than 10 billion devices worldwide.

But the man who invented the technology hasn’t made a single cent from it — and he’s OK with it.

“I don’t do these things for money,” Ajay Bhatt, Intel’s Chief Systems Technologist, who’s largely responsible for inventing the USB technology, told Business Insider. “I did this to bring about change, and it’s not very often that somebody gets a chance to bring about this big a change.”

In fact, the USB technology didn’t make money for anyone. It’s because Intel, who owns all patents to the technology as the first backer of Bhatt’s USB idea, decided to make it open and royalty free from the beginning.

And Intel had every right to do so, Bhatt believes.

The USB is now considered the de facto standard for connecting different devices, but it was met with a lukewarm response when Bhatt first pitched the idea to tech companies, including Apple and Microsoft, in the early ’90s.
One connector to rule them all

It was a smart idea, basically creating a single connector that bypassed the need for a separate floppy disk or driver to install each application. But companies had an inherent fear of breaking the existing compatibility functions, Bhatt said, and only Intel — the company he was working for at the time — was bold enough to make the investment in his idea.

“As an engineer, I’ve been handsomely rewarded by the company,” Bhatt added. “And I couldn’t do this kind of work anywhere else. I have nothing to complain.”

Although Intel first backed the idea and began to build support for it into its chips, it was Apple that first shipped a USB compatible product for end users — the iMac G3 in August 1998. Soon, Microsoft followed suit when it provided USB support for Windows 98’s second edition, and the rest is history.

Bhatt may have missed out on a chance to make hundreds of millions of dollars on this, but he believes his contribution to the overall computer industry is what makes up for it. The basic premise was to make the PC easier for regular users, and expand the overall PC market, and the USB certainly helped the cause.

“If computers are seen to be easy, then we’ll sell more computers, and as part of that, we’ll sell more chips. It’s a much bigger picture that Intel saw,” Bhatt said. “As the pie gets bigger, we get a piece of the pie, and we’re happy with it.”

The next frontier

So is there ever going to be another technology that becomes as ubiquitous as the USB? Bhatt thinks he found one: the stylus.

Bhatt is currently working with 35 companies to create a standard for stylus pens, so they could all work under one universal technology. That means an Apple stylus pen could be used in a Microsoft Surface, and vice versa, if his vision is realised.

“We are defining a standard to make the stylus more ubiquitous, more responsive, and address the entire handwriting experience,” Bhatt said. “It’s the next frontier.”

Whether all the competing companies agree on the need for a common stylus is another matter.

You are fantastic at decieving people. This is not about just Emir Sanusi but the PWC Report that proved Emir Sanusi was right.

I repeat, the PWC proved that Emir Sanusi was right. NNPC is not denying that about $20 Billion was not remitted to the Federation account.

If you like, continue spreading false information to support an evil doneto this nation. Let your conscience be the judge.
Look we all know money get missing in every Ministry in Nigeria...Anybody can come out and reveal to the public that 70 billion dollars in missing in NITEL when we all know if their account is audited we will discovered atleast one third of that amount will be missing considering the persived corruption rocking NITEL and other ministries, NNPC is not an exception...i promise you that if the present administration decides to audit the CBN account during Mallam Sanusi tenure we will see how much get missing under his watch. It just pains me why politicians see some people as gullable and they proof to them even with their level of education that they are really gullable, including you...sorry but that's just the truth.

Stop being clever by half, pause for a second of your life and stop viewing everyy issue from the angle of politics/ethnicity /emotions. There is a reason the figures changed and even primary school pupil understands the explanation but I'm sure you wouldn't still understand even if it is explained to you a thousand times.

There was no way any man could say exactly how much was missing (if any) especially when NNPC refused to cooperate with the CBN. With information available to the CBN, SLS declared a shortfall of $50bn. After public outcry over the allegation, the uncooperative NNPC finally releases some more receipts explaining that ~$40bn was their operating expenses. And then the unaccounted figure was reduced to $10bn (even NOI agreed to this figure and even claimed it was actually $10.8bn).

After further scrutiny of the extra receipts produced by NNPC, SLS declared that the actual amount was even meant to be $20bn. That was how the figure arrived at $20bn; even though NNPC claimed ~$10bn was spent on a nonexistent kerosene subsidy.

External auditors were brought in to audit NNPC accounts, the NNPC and then FG refused to open their books to the auditors thereby rendering the last audit useless. Up till date, no one really knows how much is unaccounted for or how much is missing in the NNPC.

I'm sure with the simple explanation above, you will still return to blame SLS for not sticking to a figure or for not being able to calculate mathematics.
[b]Since you claim nobody knows the exert figure missing...abeg how did Mallam Sanusi now arrived to the fact that money is missing?...was he acting on hear say or he actually saw the money get missing? If it is by hear say then his admition that money got missing cannot be trusted, if he actually saw the money get missing then why is he confused as to the actual figure? Look we all know money get missing in every Ministry in Nigeria...

I am not asking anybody to go to jail and I have never accused her of being the one who stole the alleged missing money. I only said Sanusi has done his part by letting Nigerians know there are irregularities going on in the NNPC-FG financing with billions of dollars being unaccounted for. Auditors are presently investigating this and that is the right thing to do and not declaring anyone guilty or innocent online (like you and your ilk are doing). If there's anything to exonerate anyone, I think Sanusi has already been exonerated by the discovery from the previous partial audit that over $1.4billion was withheld by NNPC. The full audit is being done as we speak.

And with your bolded directionless response, it is not my fault that you have a moronic sense of comprehension and judgement.
How do you expect Intelligent Nigerians to believe a Mallam that keeps changing the figures from 49billion to 10billion and 20billion then 9billion and now to 1.4billion? Abeg is this Mallam confused? Only fools will believe a confused man...ask yourself this question: if PWC with there report now came up with 1.9billion missing which Deizani admitted was due to some descripancies which we all know is common in accounting whether in private or government...where did that Mallam get that bugos figure of 49billion initially? Why would an Intelligent person take this man seriously? There is definitely no smoke without fire...it is clear he is all out to smear the name of Deizani and Jonathan, but that same Allah that he calls will strick him soon for blasphemy.

[b]PwC audit report confirms $18.5bn was diverted from NNPC account, says Sanusi

The former governor of Central Bank of Nigeria and the current Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, has said that the audit report on the accounts of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, has confirmed that about $18.5 billion was not remitted to the Federal Government by the corporation.

In an article published by the Financial Times on May 13, Sanusi said the audit report indicated that he did not lie when he blew the whistle on the missing billions.

Sanusi was removed from his position as the CBN governor on February 20, 2014 after he insisted that about $20 billion was not remitted to the Federation Account by NNPC in spite of Federal Government’s denial of the misappropriation.

Sanusi chided the minister of petroleum resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke, for saying that the audit exonerated her ministry and the NNPC from any wrong doing.

He said that the report indicated that “the gap between the company’s oil revenues between January 2012 and July 2013 and cash remitted to the government for the same period was $18.5bn”. He said the report also outlined the questionable expenses parts of the missing money were spent on.

The PwC report also indicated that some of the billions should have been expended on providing subsidy on kerosene and that the “executive secretary of the agency charged with administering subsidies confirmed that, acting on Yar’Adua’s orders, it had ceased granting subsidies on kerosene. There was no appropriation for such a subsidy in the 2012 or 2013 budgets,” Sanusi said in the article.

The Emir of Kano believed that $12.5 billion out of the $18.5bn in revenues that the state oil company did not send to the government, according to his calculations, was diverted.

He concluded the article by urging the incoming administration to pursue the line of investigation suggested in the report and that any official found culpable of any wrong doing should be “charged”.

So because people stole in the past, by your best judgement, it is okay for people in the present to steal?... I sincerely wish people like you were not born in Nigeria; it is because there are many people who think like you do, that is why Nigeria is the way it is today.

As for the story, Sanusi has said his own part that there were sharp practices in the NNPC. From his evaluations and re-evaluations, he reckons that up to $20billion have still yet to be accounted for by NNPC but it is left for Nigerians to go do an investigation to find out whether the unaccounted funds have been outrightly stolen or whether it has been secretly diverted by the FG to solve other concerns.

The partial PWC audit report proves Sanusi's point to be somewhat credible when they confirmed that NNPC was indeed owing the FG over $1.4 billion, but that audit was only partial because of the uncooperation of NPDC and CBN. With a new government in place now and with no government controlled cabals blocking the auditors from checking the NPDC and CBN accounts, the latest audits should be able to tell us what exactly went wrong (if any).
