Yardua made a big mistake negotiating with criminals/terrorists masquerading as freedom fighters. Whats happening is like nigeria being kidnaped by these "militants" and them demanding ransome from the treasury.

Paying up will be big mistake number 2; as far from solving the crisis, they will keep blowing up pipes etc, just to get even more money. I believe the president should treat them militants as the isrealis do with hamas. Pound them into submission, irrespective of the number of years it takes.

Various copycat criminals mushrooming around the s/s s/e have turnd these regions into den of theives; ppl there living in contant fear of kidnapping/mugging, etc. God help us.

Nigerian film makers have been lambasted for allegedly plagiarizing creative works from other lands even as they are advised to attend international film festivals if they must make films of international standards.

Respected American film maker and prolific advertising director, Spike Lee, punctured Nigerian film makers, saying they bootlegged a lot of his films. Lee told at a press conference in Cannes International Advertising Festival that Nigera made huge films but regretted that a lot of plagiarism went on in Nigeria without any check.

Responding to a question by this reporter on how Nigerian film makers could improve on their creating, Lee fired back:

"You are from Nigeria, Lagos? Those people are bootlegging my films a lot. Let them attend international film festival like the ones held in Cannes and other places to learn how to make great films that would be of international standard.

In a press conference to announce winners of the MOFILM UGC (User Generated Content) Competition, Lee, who was the competition’s jury chairman, said with the explosion of digital devices youths with creative talents would tell a great story using the new technological devices. He said with User-Generated Content, there was little limit to what youths of these days could do using digital devices.

He said a lot of talents abound not only in America and Europe but all over the world. He stated that the era when people went to school to learn film making was fast being replaced by people simply deploying the digital devices with their talents to tell great stories in digital devices.

"You don’t have to call your God to help you get a job. You can tell great stories using these hand-held devices. And to do this creativity is very key. It is a very special thing that empowers you to tell great stories."

Another important tool necessary to tell stories is the skill of story writing. In his words "You don’t have to go to school to be a good film maker. You have to work on developing your talent. You have to work on your writing skills or find someone who can write for you. Writing is key to film making. Whether it’s a piece of music, novel, play or commercial, you must learn how to write."

The MOFILM competition brought together a powerhouse set of 12 brands which consisted of AT&T, Best Buy, PepsiCo, Hewlett Packard, Kodak, Renaissance Hotel, Nokia, Philips, Telstra, Unilever (Omo), Visa and Vodafone. Each brand posted a brief on the MOFILM website, which allowed entrants from all over the world upload their films and compete for the awards and prizes. Each brand selected their favorite video, which went to compete for the grand prize on set with Spike Lee.

At the end of the highly competitive outing, Hiroki Ono, 23-year-old Japanese won the gold prize with $12, 000,000 cash award along with Nokia’s top prize of having his winning video "Feel the Globe" embedded into more than 10 million handsets and the opportunity to be on set with Spike Lee on his next project.

Winning the silver medal was an Indian from California, the United States, Mr. Mahesh Pailor, with is video "Ordinary Creative Guy" for Best Buy, a story about his father. He received $6,000 cash with Best Buy’s top prize of $10,000 gift card.

The bronze medal went to California’s Jeff Jill with his video "Larry Had the Internet" for AT&T. He received $3,000 cash along with AT&T’s top prize of $2,000 and tickets to American Idol finale.

Mr. Lee commented, "I really have enjoyed the MOFILM competition. Any medium that allows creative talent to come to the fore gives them the platform to showcase their gifts, which is gratifying to me. User-Generated Content has to be a good thing for both film and advertising industries."

All the winners expressed satisfaction for the opportunity to be showcased at the Cannes festival, saying they were spurred to develop their talents even further.

The whole senseless killings have to stop from both sides. Innocent civilians [women, children and elderly] ultimately pay the price. It is sad that the so called freedom fighting by the militants is feuled by crude oil smuggling and some faceless wealthy sponsors who conviniently move their families to plum locations in nigeria or overseas, then arm young unemployed nds to do their dirty work.
Make no mistakes, it may take 10, 20 yrs etc,  the nd will not break up from nigeria. the militants are fighting a lost battle. They should ask their counterparts from other parts of the world, pkk [turkey], tamil tigers [sri lanka], bask [spain], ira [n. ireland], et al.

how are we sure this was not stage managed by the criminals in the swamps as part of their propaganda against the military. Even though the men where wearing military outfit anyone can do that; gunshots were fired but that does not mean the guy was shot/killed; the other person who appeared lifeless, none of us are the to really confirm the guy dead. Well as for me first impression is that this is war, and in such a situation each side will do everything to paint themselves as saints and the other the very devils incarnate. The whole video could well be a con. Why will the army knowingly film themselves murdering someone in cold blood then paste in on youtube?

Definition of Enuresis
Enuresis (bedwetting) is the involuntary discharge of urine during sleep. It is called bedwetting after the age by which bladder control should have been established. In children, voluntary control of urination is usually present by the age of five. Nevertheless, nocturnal enuresis is present in about 15 to 20 percent of otherwise healthy 5-year-old children, 7 percent of healthy 7-year-olds, 5 percent of healthy 10-year-olds, 2 to 3 percent of 12 to 14-year-olds and 1 to 2 percent of normal children at age 15. Enuresis is slightly more common in boys than in girls and occurs more frequently in the first born child.

Description of Enuresis
Enuresis is the involuntary voiding of urine at least twice a month in a child age five or older. Children vary markedly in the age at which they are physiologically ready to awaken from sleep aware of the need to urinate. This hinders their ability to hold their urine throughout the night.

If the child has never been totally dry for a year, the condition is known as primary enuresis. Eighty-percent of children who wet their bed suffer from primary enuresis.

Secondary enuresis is when a child has had a dry period of at least a year before the appearance of the problem. The child invariably urinates during the first third of the night and remembers nothing of the occurrence.

Although in 1 percent of cases, enuresis continues into adulthood, most children are continent by adolescence. Aside from wet pajamas, enuresis itself causes no direct impairment of the child's life, but social ostracism by peers (at sleepovers and camp, for example), and anger and rejection by parents can damage self-esteem.
Treatment of Enuresis

A number of options are presently available for treating Enuresis. One very well-known behavioral treatment known as the "bell-and-pad" procedure dates back to the 1930s. The bell-and-pad procedure utilizes a urine-sensitive pad that is placed under the persons` buttocks. The pad is connected to a loud bell or buzzer. If a person starts to urinate in the bed, the urine activates an alarm that wakes the him up. Across time, he learns to identify the sensation of having a full bladder, because doing so helps him predict and avoid the loud, jarring alarm. Eventually, trainees wake up when their bladders are full and are then able to use the bathroom appropriately. The bell and pad procedure eliminates nighttime Enuresis in about 75% of cases, although relapse rates thereafter are generally high. However, most of the time, repeated use of the treatment generally leads to a complete cure.

Another well-known type of behavioral treatment for Enuresis was developed in 1974 by Arzin, Sneed, & Foxx. This technique involved a range of strategies including:

    * positive reinforcement (rewards or praise) for urinating appropriately
    * urine retention control training (strategies to promote better bladder control)
    * positive practice (he develops the habit of going to the bathroom at regular intervals during the day, just before sleep, and during the nighttime in order to avoid accidents)
    * nighttime waking (patients learn to wake themselves in the night to use the restroom)
    * cleanliness training (to thoroughly clean the bedding and mattress when accidents occur)
    * mild punishment (primarily disapproval when accidents occur)
    * family encouragement of good toilet habits and successful progress.
Success rates associated with this Enuresis treatment appear to be around 85%, with relapse rates falling between 7%-29%. Some people view this strategy as a kinder, gentler and more effective approach than the bell and pad procedure described previously.

Arousal training is another technique useful for treating Enuresis. This approach combines the use of a urine alarm and a reward system. The urinary alarm sensor is typically attached to the crotch area of the patients underpants (like a panty liner), and connects to a watch bracelet worn on the his wrist. Children must turn off the alarm, use the restroom, and then return to bed and reset their alarm within three minutes in order to receive a reward. Parents reward and punish the child's performance with stickers. Two stickers are handed out on nights where all the required toilet activities occur within the three minute window. One sticker is taken away from the child on nights when performance is slow. This treatment is designed to be self-contained and can be implemented without the aid of a child health professional. Parents purchase the urine alarm system, read the accompanying instructions, and implement the treatment on their own. Urine alarms are available through Nytone Medical Products, (801-973-4090), or Palco Laboratories, (831-476-3151).

Some physicians may suggest a pharmacological treatment for Enuresis. The most commonly prescribed drug is imipramine (Tofranil) which is an old-style tricyclic antidepressant. Imipramine treatment is often a successful treatment in the short term, with between 40 and 50 % of children showing improvement. However, when the drug is discontinued, about 2/3 of children show a relapse and begin enuresis behavior again.

Though generally quite safe when taken as prescribed, Imipramine is not without its side effects (e.g., tremors, dizziness, confusion, weight gain, and nausea) and cautions. Additionally, children are more sensitive to overdose with Imipramine than are adults, so the dose used to treat childhood enuresis must be tightly-controlled by a child psychiatrist who has experience treating this disorder. In addition, antidepressants have a black box warning because some children who have been prescribed antidepressants have shown suicidal behavior. Though the actual risk of suicidal symptoms is small, the possibility of suicidal impulses remains a danger that must be closely monitored by parents and (ideally) by an experienced mental health clinician. It's a good idea to talk with your doctor about the risks and benefits associated with antidepressant treatment for children before that treatment begins.

Alternatives to antidepressant therapy for enuresis exist. Desmopressin (DDAVP) is a synthetic form of a natural pituitary antidiuretic hormone which reduces urinary production by instructing the kidneys to retain water inside the body rather than excreting it. Administering Desmopressin to children reduces their urine output dramatically, making it easier for them to maintain continence. Between 10 and 60 percent of children with enuresis taking DDAVP show improvements. However, as is the case with Imipramine, relapses back into enuresis are common when the drug is discontinued.

Due to their better side effect profiles and longer lasting effects, behavioral treatments for enuresis are usually recommended over medical ones with rare exception.

With hardly ever a solid footing in the sprawling labyrinth of creeks, quicksand, rivers, poisoned forest and pipelines that is the Niger Delta, and with only a negligible minority of federal troops capable of swimming or treading water well enough to save their own lives, and fewer still as familiar with the theater of battle as are their fanatical adversaries, the odds of combat survival for front-line federal troops are bound to be desperately lower than they are for those elusive ghosts of the water - MEND, in spite of the federal military forces' absolute air superiority and clear numerical advantage in men, materiel and arms.

Armchair generals and internet pundits, baying for blood and calling for a decisive "Little Big Horn" battle that will conclusively vanquish the Niger Delta militiamen, will gradually fall silent as they witness the insurgency drag on into months and then years of cat-and-mouse skirmishes, interspersed with hit-and-run surprise raids, followed by retaliatory search-and-destroy invasions supported by indiscriminate bombardment and air strikes, all in a repeating cycle that inexorably, over time, will choke off Nigeria's only life-blood - oil.

You forget take your tablets today? You are a deluded fool.
