TravelRe: Why Do Nigerians Think That They Can Only Make It Abroad? by softandmoist(f): 12:39am On Dec 11, 2018
I think you should give everyone a chance to answer. You asked why we think we can only make it abroad, we answer and you keep attacking us and refuting facts.

My cousins and I have immigrated to different continents. Not one of us landed here and start d doing survival jobs. In my church, we have lots of professionals and white collar workers. The ones who do menial stuff are also content.

See, to each his own.
You're content with living in Nigeria.
I'm not.
Build your country for your children.
I'll do my part from here, but I need to be alive to do that. This is my humble submission.
TravelRe: Why Do Nigerians Think That They Can Only Make It Abroad? by softandmoist(f): 12:32am On Dec 11, 2018
But this country you so badly want to stay and build, will you succeed?
Will Tinubu let you get to a position to make effective laws? Can you question your leaders? Will your vote actually count?

You say there's good healthcare in Nigeria.
Give me the name of Nigeria's best equipped hospitals let's open their can of worms. I worked in the health sector and I can confidently tell you that all you have is a sham. Your MoH was passing a circular in 2018 that there's an instrument called ophthalmoscope. In 2018!

Let me tell you again why we leave.
People are lawless and no one bothers. My street was constantly being blocked by a man who had connections. The residents association wrote to LASEMA but because he's a big man, we were held to ransom. I almost died having my son because
1. I called 112 and they asked if my neighbor can drive me to the street where there closest point was.
2. Baba Rich man had blocked everywhere with his trucks and no one could drive through. I was in labor, fully dilated and having a breech baby. The Royal 112 of Lagos didn't think of how I'd need a stretcher, whether I had a trained paramedic neighbor or whether I was in distress.
3. Said baby was born, but on the floor of my bathroom by inexperienced neighbors. At least they tried. I was bleeding, my daughter was watching me pass out and my husband was confused because 112 was playing their hold on music instead of actually doing what they're paid to do.
4. Said baby was jaundiced, but six hospitals, LUTH, Massey, MC&C Gbaja, OHC, Island Maternity and May clinic didn't have the capacity to start phototherapy. We had to go to Lifeline Children's hospital on Ogunlana drive. Admission deposit was N500, 000. That's what every Nigerian can afford yea?

In April of 2017, I discovered a lump in my right mammary gland. I got an appointment to see a gynecologist and them was referred to SOPD. The government hospital was going to take out the lump and cut off the body part. No tests!

I ran to a private hospital, paid through the nose to have the lump tested, taken out and I know I'm in the clear. Let me not even start with those ones that started me on cryotherapy even when my cervix was okay.

When you say you want to build a country, the country has to have a system willing to work.
I just want to know that if my daughter gets into the university, there's an expected graduation date and she can study fine arts because she feels like it, not because her slot for law was given to someone who paid but doesn't deserve it.

thebosstrevor:
The reality is that this abroad ,many of you will not go there, if you like apply for visa till you die

you just have to face your reality and start building your life and country.

when you are young, you feel abroad is the place to succeed, the stress, the money and the energy, if you have used it in learning a very sell-able skills by age 30, you would have become very comfortable in Nigeria

but you guys use the energy in queuing for visas, patronizing agents( why are the agents not applying for visas) and not even getting the visas, then hopelessness and despair troop in,you start running from church to church, you became broke and desperate and then reality comes through by that time you are already 38,nothing to show for. that is the reality of many wanna be immigrant.

cool down, get your skills, work hard, sell your self and increase your bank account and you will be able to travel for holidays in that abroad.
You may never be able to even travel. Because you're not sure what the aviation industry is going to strike about tomorrow.
You can't be sure that when you have a knife cut, that tetanus injection you're getting isn't expired.
You can't really tell when your children will graduate because ASUU strike. If they do in record time from a private university, how do you know traveling on bad roads won't kill them?

You may get cancer from all the GMO Europe is dumping in Nigeria because NAFDAC, SON and the lot are busy with 'work'.

Do you really want to know why we leave?
So our children can have better opportunities.
We don't want them to write JAMB and PUTME and be denied admission they can get on merit.
We want to know that 911 can take our emergencies serious.
And as citizens of the country we immigrated to, we want to know our votes count.
Is that too much to ask??

Not that i believed the story. I was almost pressured into calling Justin Trudeau to confirm since according to him, we have unfettered access to the people in authority. What made me not to attempt it is that i don't want the authorities thinking my visa issuance was a mistake for making such enquiries. How can they open their doors to only Nigerians? The desperation of these agents is apalling.

Thanks all for your responses.

Sorry about that.
If I were you I was going to be truly bothered by that.
Was the guy a Nigerian?
Where are you located?
He is a Nigerian.
We're in Regina.

TheCongo2:
Maybe I should ask you where are you located.
I live in London, Ontario which is mostly white.
When in London I always make sure I greet every single black I meet.
However, when I am in Toronto or Montreal, I just ignore black people given they are too many. In other words, you are most likely to be ignored by black in big cities.

Now talking about the man who snubbed you in your daughter's school and then became chatty with a white lady, maybe they knew one another. Maybe he has a crush on the white lady.

I am not discounting your experience in any way. I know our people can be funny sometimes.
They don't know each other.
We were in the hall way waiting for the bell so the children could be admitted and I heard him asking the woman if she was cold because she wasn't dressed like us, and then introduced himself. The conversation didn't sound like he'd met her before. But let me leave it there at the risk of sounding bothered.

I go out and meet blacks and I smile and nod or just wave. Sometimes, like on a bus, I don't do anything. But I greet you twice and you act like you're hard of hearing, only to start telling someone you think is 'better' hare yu feeelinggg cauld?

It's ok o.
No biggie in nodding or just smiling back.

With respect to the bolded, issoftandmoist is a lady and you are a man. Of course any lady would rise her defense mechanism when been approached by a smiling man.
However, if a black man approach a black lady in a place where no other black lives, things may be different.
Nevertheless, some black who live among white people see the presence of other black people as a competition. How ridiculous! That could be the type of black softandmoist is complaining about.
Exactly. Especially when there's a common factor like children being in the same class. But like I said I can't be bothered. It was just funny one kind Sha.

Don’t be so fast in dismissing this. Everyone dey talk from their experience. It’s not uncommon for blacks to quickly throwaway face on sighting another even before you have an opportunity to even smile even if na the fake grin whites give.A Nigerian is my neighbor, words can’t even express the cold treatment on my first visit as per Know Neighbor.
In all, let’s try to be more receptive. Nobody wan beg una anything oooo
Thank you. I'm not begging him for anything o. Just that our kids are Nigerians and they may bond. I'd hate to see my daughter be treated coldly by him and I may have to warn her to stay away from them. Abeg na better life I find come I no wan do family.

I dey greet o...Please how long does it actually take to get the PR Cards from the date of landing...One yeye survival job like that say they don't accept COPR as one of the identity verification documents, except the PR card is seen.

Again, how long does it actually take to get the health card in Saskatchewan. Can one still access free Medicare even if the card is not ready?
6-8 weeks.
No you can't access healthcare until it's ready.

I’m sorry madam I do not agree with you. We are quick to invalidate others. If I approach you on the street all smiling and expressing cordial greetings, would you respond to me accordingly. Please first note that you don’t know me and my being a Nigerian doesn’t instantly make me familiar with you. I am still a stranger. Skin color has nothing to do with it.

However, if I was introduce to you by a common acquaintance, don’t you think it would make our introduction seamless?

Please let’s not be quick to presume that Nigerians are snobs. I have met fantastic Nigerians and some Nigerians who just want to be at peace with themselves probably we don’t share common interests. It’s human nature and has nothing to do with a specific type of people, race or country. Even the whitey, after you discuss with them today, tomorrow they see and blank their face like they don’t know you.
The way you quickly took it personal. Eya fa. cheesy
You didn't read my post at all. That's my conclusion. It's not like I was expecting him to run and hug me sir. I greeted him twice and not even a nod to acknowledge me? He's a snob. He's forming. He's even annoying me now as I'm thinking about it. (I just typed that for fun, he can't get to me at all). If you know how much we've been blessed by Naija brethren here, you would know God will straight up seal my mouth with a slap if I say they're snobs.
Please read my post again. Or don't.
P.S. I don't even care if he exists o, it's the Yoruba in me that made me greet.

This is not me whining or anything. Just something I noticed since landing here in Canada and going out and about.
Many of our Nigerian brothers act all cold when you greet them then get warm when greeted by a white.
Really.
Like your sucking up will change your complexion?
The friendly ones know better, I suppose. They give you pointers on how you can get settled in easily and integrate.
One man snubbed me this morning when I greeted him twice at my daughter's school, but got all chatty with one woman who was white. His daughter and mine are in the same class so I was wondering what the superiority complex was all about.
Shior.
What pained me most for him was that the woman didn't hear anything he was saying because even on the verge of swallowing his tongue to speak Canadian English, she wasn't just understanding. Kikikikiki.
Ok, seriously now.

Please seniors, let's be nice to ourselves. Tenkiu.

There's a Catholic Church next to me here. The priest is a Nigerian and many Nigerians attend. It's on Broad Street North 8th Avenue.
