geloorrrrdd: The latter. Besides, transfers is the least of my worries. Have you tried withdrawing from the account recently? Sterling. No, I will confirm that tomorrow or by Monday. The issue with some bank branches is that they hardly have foreign cash available for withdrawal, this is partly because the demand is far more than the supply... |

Apparently, you can't withdraw inflow cash from your domiciliary account. So, if you receive payment from US, UK or any country, you'll have to change it to Naira before you can withdraw.
You're also restricted from making transfers from your domiciliary account. Anyway, I don't know about cash withdrawal for now, but I sent some fund from my domiciliary account to another domiciliary account yesterday, and the recipient received the fund within a few minutes. |

If no, can someone suggest a better option?
I'd have preferred saving on my domiciliary account, but the recent CBN policy doesn't sound good. Please, what policy is that? |

mctfopt: Kindly contact installers here. Even if they can't make it to your location. Even if it involves paying a fee, some of them can help you get what you want. Then you can get an installer your end to do the job. My first panel was four numbers of 130w panel. I used MPPT CC. Never used a PWM CC and I wonder if I ever will. I doubt two solar panels (probably 250w or less) will be enough to charge two 12v 200ah batteries. Unless of course your load is like 50w or less.
Edit: I just saw where you said the solar panel is 280w, is that the size for each or for the two panels? Thanks for your response. It's actually 280w each, but I've decided not to go with the guy again, because of the responses I've gotten so far. |

All right Sir. Thanks. I'll wait. |

Valto: better contact professional solar system sellers/installers here, than this your seller that is suggesting 2pcs 280w panels, for a 24V 200ah system, he will end up giving u substandard 200ah batteries, modified sine wave inverter and a crappy 20A PWM CC. he is probably an inexperienced seller who just want to sell his market and nothing more Thanks Sir. So I asked some questions from the man as advised by @ceaser and I got the following information from him. Brand: Soccer Power Inverter Type: 2.5KVA Pure Sine Wave Inverter Battery: Altimate Agm 200Ah, 12VDC High Quality. 2 batteries. Panel: 2 panels (280W) Are you going to use MPPT charge controller? No. I will use PWM Charge Controller The MPPT is meant for multiple solar panels, like 16panels, While the PWM is meant for 2 or more. Is this information about the charge controller correct? Also, please what's your advice on this? |

odimbannamdi: Maybe i didnt learn my digits well, but shouldnt 6 figures be 100,000 to 999,999? So if he gives you a 6-figure price for a 2.5kva, 2×200ah batteries and 2 panels (you need to clarify the watts rating), it isn't a bad idea, as long as it is within the lower range.
Please correct me, if possible Thanks Sir. He said the panels are 280W. The quote is actually in the mid range (around 500) but I'm yet to negotiate, I want to get an accurate information about the reliability of the system first, before negotiating the price. |

@ceaser Thanks so much. I will ask him the questions, and feed the house back with his response.
About the load issue, the priority now is on the laptops, TVs and decoders, and the bulbs, and of course charging of phones.
I can still be using generator for pump, printer and co.
I asked him earlier about the rating of the panels, he said 280W. I will ask him the other questions now, and get his response back here.
Thanks and God bless. |

ojeysky: Ah! This one na power house o it's certainly inadequate, you will need a budget of 6 digits to achieve this and 1 will not be the first number sef. So what was recommended to you is grossly inadequate. However if that is your budget then ditch the following: Refrigerator, freezer and pump. Thanks for your prompt response Sir. Yes, the critical devices are the laptops, printer, TVs and bulbs. We can use generator for the others. So with that, do you think the recommended system is ok? Just curious, at the bolded, do you mean the budget be 6 or 7 digits? Because the quotes I'm getting is already of 6 digits... |

ojeysky: It all depends on your load and what's the capacity of the panels? Thanks for your response. I will ask him about the capacity of the panels. The house is 4 bedrooms with home office, we have the following (possible) loads; 3 laptops, 1 LaserJet printer, 1 refrigerator (not deep freezer), 2 standing fans, 2 TV and decoder sets, 1 submersible pump, about 10 bulbs or so. I don't actually know the actual power needed for each of the loads, but I'm not particularly interested in powering all of them with an inverter. So Sir, do you think the recommended system is ok? |

Greetings all, I needed a solar inverter..., so after discussing with the seller, he recommends that 2.5kva would be best for the workload.
I'm a complete novice, so I want to be sure that I'm getting the best.
The seller gave me the system specs as follows; 2.5 kva, 2 batteries (200Ah), and 2 solar panels. I was thinking that the solar panels should be more than 2. Is that correct?
Also, please what relevant questions should I ask the seller before making payment to be sure that I'm getting the best?
Thanks in anticipation for your help. God bless! |

mojid22000: There should always be a small opening that serves as a ventilator, cut out a small opening at both sides of the carton to make the air circulate And the carton should be closed
Thanks for asking, my chickens are doing great I hv put them in the cage with the rest but they always seperate themselves from the rest They are about 5 weeks and 3days They looked bigger than the ones hatched a week before them I think maybe its because they have a cockerel father
When my noilers start laying I plan to build a larger incubator with 5v fan and experiment with that, still looking for a bigger carton that can take up to 50 eggs Thanks. I will do that. |

mojid22000: Just an experiment oo Not a standard incubator
I got a larger carton, put an indomie carton in it, cutting open one side. I line the bottom of the indomie carton with a towel. Put a lantern on the opposite side facing the side I cut opened I placed the thermometer/hygrometer on the towel to measure the temp and humidity, that was like a day before placing the eggs I had small water in a plactic placed beside the lantern I regulated the lantern till I got the ideal temperature 100.5 but it fluctuates a lot even after been stable for a long time so putting an eye on it is a must Turned eggs three time a day Raised humidity to 60% on the 18th day, though it has always fluctuated between 48 and 52% Ibhad a hard time raising it but I did it and to my surprise the eggs pipped on the 19th and hatched on the 20th
Will build a better one in the future by God's grace I have forced air incubator in mind. Greetings, Please how do you ensure fresh air circulation in the incubator? Did you left the bigger carton opened or closed? Also, how are the chicks from this incubator performing currently? Thanks in anticipation for your response. |

Farouq94: Wow. Never experienced this before. Maybe they are not used to eating formulated feed.
I had similar issue whenever I will buy a local chicken from the market. They will shun the feed at first, but they always come back to eat later on. It's strange to me too, but they eat millet and guinea corn very well, as well as kitchen food waste. I'm worried they would have grown bigger [and heavier] if they had accepted formulated feeds. At about 15 weeks, the average weight is approximately 2.4kg, the biggest rooster is 3.3kg while the smallest hen is 1.9kg. I'm new to farming so I don't know if this weight range is okay for their age. |

Greetings all, I noticed that my Noilers (about 15 weeks old now) doesn't like to eat formulated feeds, I have tried several brands (Top feed, Vital, Chikun, and one other feed that I couldn't remember the name at the moment).
They always ignore the feeds. Say I give them feed in the morning when I come back in the afternoon, it will still be there, almost untouched, so I will be forced to take it to the broilers in the cage.
When we bought them, we restricted their movement for two weeks and fed them formulated feeds, which they actually eat to a reasonable extent. Thereafter we released them to free range in the backyard and ever since they've been avoiding formulated feeds. They eat more of kitchen food waste, which I believe is not always enough for them, they eat leaves too (bitter leaves, water leaves and some other leaves).
I'm worried because I think they may not grow well, so I've been searching for an alternative, I gave them some millet and guinea corn, it seems they love it as much as they love eating kitchen food waste. So we bought some, but I noticed that both millet and guinea corn is more expensive than formulated feeds when I compared the price per kilogram.
Has anyone experienced this situation with their Noilers? Is there anywhere I can get millet and guinea corn at a cheaper price? The price here is about N200 per kilogram. |

na true Oga mi, you end up cutting into just 2 or 3 parts.
My Noilers/Kuroilers on most occasion starts dropping eggs around the 5th month. I have been able to record a few drop around the 4th month though, especially when raised with broilers. Thanks for the information. So I should expect them to start laying by August ending then. We have a few broilers too, but they're kept in cages. I tried to let them out a few days ago, the Noilers angrily attacked them, so I had to move them back to their cages. Should the locals start to lay eggs again before the Noilers, I will have to collect the eggs for kitchen... |
Agriculture › Re: My Pet Project: Is It Economically Feasible To Rear Local Chickens Commercially? by SoftHeart(m): 11:27am On Jul 04, 2020 |
jidestroud: Price of local chickens over here goes for N600 for full grown hens, and N800 - N1000 Max for a grown rooster when buying directly the rural owners.
@Farouq94 It's the direct opposite here, the rains brings along with it diseases that kills off the local hens. Their population seems to explode only during the dry season. Most rural farmers tends to buy and raise their chickens during that season cause it possess less diseases that kills them.
Moreover, what we have here are the yoruba ecotype chicken. Chai, those chickens no b am at all. There's no difference between them and well fed pigeons when killed. . If not for their eggs, I wouldn't want one around (their eggs sweeeeeeet dieeeeee ). Well, looking at the bright side, those chickens are so hardy that they will survive any disease thrown at them. At the bolded, thanks for making me laugh so hard that I almost felt some pain in my abs. I can relate with this. We have some free space at our backyard, about 38x56 feet, so we bought 8 Noilers at 4 weeks, about 2 months ago, we also bought 4 locals (3 hens and a rooster). So the biggest of the Noilers now at 3 months weigh more than the 3 local hens combined. We bought the local hens so as to act as natural incubators for the Noilers eggs when they start laying, the Noilers have not started laying yet, but the 3 local hens has layed and hatched 20 chicks. I'm eagerly waiting for the Noilers to start laying.
