I am very happy to be back to this forum, i have been silent for may reasons known to me but with the persuasive messages and advice from many, i decided to back.
Some years back i am preaching Cultivation of Cassava in a commercial way, many took the advice and i know that they will be smiling to the bank now.

What are the steps to take in Commercial production of cassava.

Soil analysis of your land soil: this will allow you to know the fertilizer to be used.
Adequate Land preparation: Three maximum land preparation must be done, i.e 1st plough, 2nd plough and Harrow, for mechanical planting, Ridging if it is manual planting.
Adequate Pre and post emergence Chemical application. Also make sure your chemical is original not fake.
Allow adequate planting spacing, this will allow your population per stand to be ok.

More to come soon.

I want to go into cassava farming in kogi state, I have access to about one hectare of land, but I realise from reading the thread that all sales and marketing of cassava is done in Ogun and Lagos, is there anyone with ideas on where to sell produce in kogi and states surrounding it, these states are ekiti, ondo, kwara, Edo. Thank you, and is there any cassava farmer in kogi I can get in touch with. God bless you all

Dear Mr. Farmers to be, Siting and locating of your farm very close to your off taker market is very important, this will reduce the cost of transportation, Transportation in cassava production takes huge amount of money away from your profit and so you need to get a land, not only that , your market and target market.
More so, an Hectare is too small to produce for a big blue chip company. Why dont you prepare very well and get close to 10 ha. For huge cassava production, one needs big time land for it.
Call me to set more light in your path.

Please how is harvesting done on a large cassava farm? I have seen manual harvesting in small sized manageable farms, but farms on say 5 hectares! Please enlightened me o. Am developing interest in agriculture, especially cassava, and am wondering if there are mechanised methods of harvesting.

Thanks all
When you want to Harvest large cassava plantation, one has to use mechanical harvester, In iita, we have different types depending on the topography of the land, the season you are harvesting and the spacing of your cassava when planted.
See me for more details.

There are 2type of producing Tissue cultured suckers.

1.Tissue cultured plant produced through laboratory manipulation of plantain DNA make up

2.On-the- field tissue cultured suckers

1.Laboratory manipulation of the genetic make up of plantain species

This is done to produce new hybrid variety.

I will talk more on how to produce on-the-field tissue cultured suckers

stay connected.
Dear Mr. Lesgupnigeria, Your experience in farming concerning tissue culture technique is very very shallow, you people just want to mislead others who really interested in Agriculture, i want you to believe that, right thinking mind are numerous on this fora. My concern is those guys who are not much embedded in farming. A word is enough for the wise. Ask from Hotmas and Dr. Issa even Jethro. They know me and i dont need further introduction. Good Day.

Agriculture / Agriculture, Solution To Internal Generated Revenue For States In Nigeria by soladel(m): 10:26am On Nov 07, 2014
I was listening to one of south west Governor in Nigeria last week, complaining about the shortage in statutory allocation to the state by the Federal Government of Nigeria, He said, He will not be able to pay October Salary of the civil servant of the state.
Now, For the past Years He has been in the Govt, what he has done to increase IGR of the state...... Nothing. Resources are there to tap, Our state has tremendous land for agriculture, from Ibadan, to Ogbomosho, to Igbeti, to Ighoho down sepeteri.
Agriculture, i am very sure, one can make up to Billions of Naira from it, all things being equal. But, all these opportunities are left undone.

However, what can we do in this forum to help our to be politicians to divert all their attention to agriculture. I need your comments.

TME is not good for garri. It has higher starch content. Your target for TME should be the processing factory.
Use our local factories if you aim is cassava. Please don't just plant because everyone is planting. Be sure of your target mlarket. Do your home work.
There is no cassava varieties that are not good for garri, we have a lot of varieties in iita, I have a book on that, close to 59 different improved varieties released for farmers, I can send anybody the book free of charge if you are interested. According to jethro, when you want to cultivate cassava, plant to the specification of the target processor. Regards.

Lesgupnigeria: In the past,Nigeria has relied so much on oil
that other sectors of.the economy have either
been abandoned or little attention are being
pay to them;agricultural sectors which remain
one of the abandoned sector.
In the 70's and 80's,agriculture is the main
drive of the economy generating hundred of
thousands of jobs for its people but in this
new millenium,opposite is the case.
For the first time in the history of
Nigeria,government are now paying attention
to the agriculture especially the cassava as a
crop. This is because Nigeria is the largest
producer of cassava and also the economic
impact cassava can make for the country and
the populace.
Thanks to the administration of President
Goodluck Jonathan even though even though i
am not a supporter of any political party.
The believe is that proper partnership with the
private sector will surely steer the ship of this
government new-found-love to a glorious
destination.
I hope this short article can also encourage
young unemployed graduates and investors to
venture into cassava farming to help them
create wealth and jobs for the people of this
country.

doctorisa: its better to plant cassava. Plantain will eat up the land. And discourage future development..
Plantain and cassava are two different plants that there agronomic practices are entirely different.
Plantain is perennial while cassava is annual crop. One can plant them together if the land is yours. Plantain will be on the farm until Jesus comes while you can be harvesting your cassava from the same farm year in year out.
The spacing of your plantain will determine how you are going to plant your cassava, they will normally not discourage and disturb their mixed cropping .
