Four weeks after he had recovered from his ailment, Guba was full of life. At his mechanic workshop, he really must face the streams of mechanical work that were coming his way. He had not heard from Sam for some time and neither had any special assignment come from him.

He was however getting good and steady income from his workshop.

A Honda car was driven inside the workshop. A woman neatly dressed in office wears came down. Guba quickly left the vehicle he was working on to attend to her.

'Good morning, madam.'

'Yeah, good morning. My gear box has a problem and you should fix it.'

Guba nodded. 'Is that all.'

'Yeah, I think that's all.'

He nodded. 'That is no problem, madam.'

The woman had brought her car around before, but she was not a regular customer.

'I'm going to work. By evening, I'll be back. Do the work well, please.'

'No problem. Your car will be in perfect condition by the time you come back.'

She handed the car key to him and was off. In his mind, he decided he would bill her high and get the best from the deal. Though Guba's
charges were always high, he was good in his job and always gave customers satisfaction.

Towards noon, he received a call from his mother at Shaare.

'Your wife has just delivered a bouncing baby,' she informed.

'Ah, praise be to Allah,' he exclaimed. 'Alhamudulilai.'

'Both mother and baby are in good health.'

'Praise be to God. Boy or girl?'

'A girl.'

It was the second girl he was having. He wished he could have a boy now, but shrugged. This must be Allah's wish.

'Alhamudulilahi,' he repeated.

Seven weeks after her affairs with Sam, Madam Kashi went to consult with the family doctor in a private hospital at Ikeja.

'Congratulations, madam,' Doctor Bright said, as he handed the medical results to her. 'You're six weeks pregnant.'

She got the report from him and briefly read through. 'Ah, that's good,' she said, smiling.

The doctor nodded. 'Indeed, it is good news. Finally, Ayomide will be having a younger one.'

'Yes, o.'

She was indeed glad about the news.

'I'm sure, chief will be highly delighted about the development.'

She nodded. 'He will be. That's the thing I will call to inform him about as soon as I leave here.'

She was still all smiles as she left the doctor's consulting room. She went to the parking space where Sam had parked the car and was waiting.

She however had no plan to share the news with him. It was when she got to the confines of her small office at the Opebi shop that she put a
call to her husband to inform him.

'The doctor has confirmed the pregnancy test I did to be positive,' she informed. 'I'm six weeks pregnant.'

'Oh, that's great news. Thank God that we've finally got our desire.'

'Yes, we thank God.'

There was a slight pause. 'That means I will have to withdraw his service as your driver.'

She knew what he meant. 'Yes.'

There was another slight pause. 'Don't worry. I'll handle everything from my end.'

'Okay.'

Chief Kashi disconnected the line, grinning to himself. It was a successful venture. He picked up his phone and put a call across to one of his
henchmen, Guba.

'Thanks for the day,' Madam Kashi said as she collected the car keys from Sam.

'Good night, ma'am.' Despite the secret intimacy between them, he was still very respectful.

She nodded. Sam walked to the gate of the magnificent building, bided the security man good night and passed through the gate. He was still
walking towards the main gate of the estate when his phone rang. It was Guba calling him.

'Oh boy, na wa o,' Guba said as a way of greeting. 'Long time no see.'

'Guba, how you dey?'

'I thank God o. I’m fine.'

'Sorry I didn't call you all this while,' Sam said. 'It's because no special task yet.'

Guba laughed shortly. 'I understand, now. I trust you that once there’s job, you will call me.'

'Yeah. That's right.'

'Oh boy, I dey celebration mood o. Why don't we meet at that our joint at Ketu? The one that is close to Ile-ile bus stop.'

'Oh, that will be marvelous.'

'Yeah. I’m there right now. Let us meet there. Everything that you drink will be on my account.'

'Really? For sure, I will be there.'

'Okay, I’ll be expecting you.'

'Yeah. See you.'

Sam whistled to himself as he cut the line. Guba must indeed be in a celebration for him to offer to pay for his drinks. For all the times they had
been to the joint together, he - Sam - was the one paying for drinks and pepper soup. Well, it was good that something different was about to happen.

He should have noticed that she was cool in her responses; that indeed, he was giving her the cold shoulders, but Sam in his nonchalant attitude didn't notice.

He sighed and grinned. That meant tonight he could have Bisi again. He had been having a jolly time with her since Jenni had stayed off. Bisi was wild about sex and he could not have wished to have a wilder partner. But he knew what existed between them was that mutual desire to satisfy lust and that it would not go beyond that. He also hoped Bisi perfectly understood that. This evening, he had just parted from Madam

Kashi after being holed in the hotel room with her for about two hours. The woman was not a bad lay, and he always felt excited whenever he slept with her. She was his boss' wife and there was an inexplicable triumph anytime he slept with her. Besides, the woman was good in goading him on, moaning his name and jerking her body in pleasure. Where Chief Kashi had failed to please his woman, he - Sam, an ordinary employee - had excelled. Already, he had slept with the woman for about four times. To him, that was an achievement.

But something at the back of his mind told him that things were not all right. Now, as it was, his task was to get the woman pregnant. After that, what? The woman said he would be adequately rewarded. How would she do that? He should his head. It was an unusual thing they had asked him to do and somehow he felt something was wrong.

Three days later, Jenni still had not come to visit him. She also refused to call. When he called her, her phone rang on and on. What was happening? Was everything alright with her? Was she still 'thinking about life?'

He continued to call her line until she finally picked her call.

'Baby, what's happening?' he asked. 'I hope you're okay.'

'I'm okay.'

'So, why didn't you pick my call? And why didn't you come around?'

'Our relationship is over, Sam,' she blurted out. 'Bye.'

She cut the line. He was astonished. What was she talking about? What had come over there Jenni? He called her line again, but she did not pick it. Wait a minute, was Jenni really saying it was all over between them? Did she really mean it?

When she refused to pick her call, he decided to send a text message to her. Baby, tell me you're joking, he wrote. He also sent a WhatsApp message to her. She did not reply any of the messages. He became angry. If she thought he would go to her and beg on his knees, then she was making a big mistake. Sam would beg no lady, no matter how beautiful she might be. Didn't he have ladies at his beck and call? What arrogance was Jenni now displaying? Nonsense!

Rhoda gave a chuckle. 'You're asking me. Is it not obvious? Is it not better that between the one that is ready and the one that hasn't even made up his mind, the one that is ready is better?'
Jenni got her aunt's logic. The woman was right. That very moment, Jenni decided that she would accede to Babatunde's proposition.

Guba was glad that he was recovering. Religiously, he had been taking the concoction the native doctor gave him. It was now he was very certain that the native doctor was indeed a powerful one. It was not that he had doubts before, but this latest episode removed any reservation about the fact that the medicine of the man was efficacious. He had started getting better, although he still needed some rest.

After he had fully recovered, he must not forget his vow to stay clear of married women. He had learnt his lesson.

By the following week, Guba was strong enough to return to work. He had many work waiting for him at the workshop and he had to do extra work to cope with it and to finish the work on time. But he decided to do things at his own pace. He would not be rushed, no matter the urgency the customer attached to the work. He was working on a Mazda car when Bose, the bread seller came around. Guba found it difficult to believe that this pretty woman was the source of his illness. How could it be that he contracted a strong ailment from a pretty woman as this? The whole thing was a mystery, from the ailment to the recovery.

'Oga Guba, good morning,' she greeted.

'Good morning, Bose. How're you?'

'Fine.'

He still bought a big loaf of bread from her, but he would henceforth limit the relationship with her. Bose lingered with him, probably hoping he would invite her to his home for another time out, but he did not.

Sam called Jenni.

'Hello, baby. You've not come around for days. Hope no problem,' he said.

'No problem.'

'So, why have I not been seeing you?'

'I need to think my life over.'

He laughed over the line. 'Jenni, dear, what are you thinking about your life?'

She was crossed that he found that funny, so she didn't say anything.

'Any way, how're you?'

'Fine.'

'Think fast and come around, baby. I'm missing you,' he urged.

He should have noticed that she was cool in her responses; that indeed, he was giving her the cold shoulders, but Sam in his nonchalant attitude didn't notice.
