PoliticsDSS Vs Nigerian Celebrities: Your Insensitivity Must Stop – Com. Timi Frank To B by soloenzo(op): 2:27pm On Sep 02, 2020
Following the invitation of Nigerian music producer, Michael Ajereh popularly known as Don Jazzy, and Tiwatope Savage popularly known as Tiwa Savage, by the Department of State Service for questioning over alleged political utterances against the administration of President Muhamamdu Buhari on social media, political Activist and former Deputy Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress(APC) Timi Frank has urged president Muhammadu Buhari to desist from his insensitivity.

In recent months, following a sharp rise in sexual assault cases across Nigeria especially against women, Tiwa Savage began a movement known as “WeAreTired” in protest of the situation.

Through the movement, the musician called on Buhari’s administration to take action to stem the tide of rape in the country.

The above in addition to several posts on social media calling on the government to live up to its responsibilities to Nigerians earned Tiwa Savage an invitation by the DSS.

Together with Don Jazzy, Savage was invited to the DSS office in Lagos two weeks ago during which they were warned to be careful with their posts on the social media.

Shortly after that episode, the two celebrities together with colleagues Yemi Alade and Waje were summoned by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Zubairu Muazu, who while sharing efforts they were making to tackle rape and other problems in the state and country, warned the musicians to steer clear of political comments in order not to incur the wrath of the President Buhari administration.

Timi Frank further called on Nigerians to rally massive support for Nigeria celebrities.

As seen on Timi Frank’s verified twitter handle @RealTimiFrank, DSS harassment on;

@DONJAZZY
@TiwaSavage
@yemialadee
@OfficialWaje is the height of impunity from Gen Buhari’s Govt. This is a plot to intimidate Celebrities and Nigerians from speaking the truth.
@MBuhari insensitivity must stop! Nigerians must rally support for our celebrities.

PoliticsLeadership In Africa And The Place Of The Youths - GP Oshodin On Kenya's TV47 (V by soloenzo(op): 3:31pm On Sep 01, 2020
Speaking this Tuesday on Morning cafe on Kenya's TV47 on th topic; Leadership in Africa and the Place of the youths hosted by Linda Alela, Mr Godspower Oshodin,  President of the Nigerian Bloggers Forum and CEO Godspower Foundation a special guest on the programme made his voice heard.

Starting with this discussion, Mr Oshodin talked about the unity of Africa and the May 1963 meeting of 31 Independent African countries leaders who evisaged the unity of Africa which led to the formation of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

Mr Godspower Oshodin critically criticised the character of leadership of African politicians thereby chatging them to be leaders instead of been dealers because of their selfish aggrandization and lack of conscience in all their political dealings.

Mr Oshodin said Africa and particularly Nigerian leaders must do everything possible to consult the citizens especially the youths in the amandement and review of the constitution. Continuing his discuss, he sited the civilian administration of Olusegun Obasanjo with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar as Vice President  between 1999-2007 , as not serving the interest of Nigerians, as Nigerians were not consulted in the review and amendment pf the constitution.

Mr Oshodin exonerated leaders like Paul Kagame of Rwanda as an African leader who is wanted continuously by the people of Rwanda as been a progressive president as he consults the people in all his political and social transactions towards the development of Rwanda and Africa in general.

Mr Godspower Oshodin also talked about how Switzerland has been setting price legislation and determining the price and amount of beverages which is an output from cocoa produced by Africa, even though Switzerland does not produce cocoa. Mr Godspower Oshodin therefore called for African leaders to wakeup from been dealers to been leaders so that Africa can attain its developmental and advanced goal towards competing with the global leaders.

PoliticsAfrican Politicians Are Not Leaders, But Just Dealers – Nigeria’s Godspower Osho by soloenzo(op): 8:55am On Aug 26, 2020
As the political leadership crisis and underdevelopment in Africa increases as a new dawn crawls her face into reality, without the hope of a better tomorrow in Africa as a result of what African politicians are doing to their various countries through immeasurable socioeconomic and sociopolitical corruptions, some well meaning Africans are busy trying to figure out how wealthy Africa can reach its promise land towards overtaking the so called world powers.

Godspower Oshodin in Nairobi with the Ambassador representing Kenya and South Sudan at the United Nations, Amb. Chol M.U Ajongo, alongside Kenya’s Activist Prof. PLO Lumumba, and Nigeria’s Comrade Timi Frank, to brainstorm on how Africa can attain adulthood as she still suffers from malnourished embryo.

They decided to talk about something that will never die, which is AFRICA….

Godspower Oshodin From Nairobi, Kenya

“And if we must talk about Africa, we must talk about it with that cautious overview that – if we do not take charge immediately, our so called ‘political’ leaders will sell out the World’s richest Continent (Africa) to the Western World, through their various Loans/Aides ruse.

“We must begin to liberate ourselves from this force belief that the African Politicians are the Leaders. They’re not leaders, but just dealers!

“The Western world has created some International monetary Organisations to process and continue steal from Africa. The same money these Organisations give to Africa belongs to Africa. These organisations are created to tame Africa, they’re not there to save Africa.

“They understand that the average African politician is only interested in immediate gratification. They’re not interested in protecting Africa’s interest.

“And just watch after the COVID-19 might have relapse, they’ll invite our Africa Leaders to China for some contrived Africa/China merger whatever, and they will all get dressed and run to China. And the only time they contribute in such deceptive Assembly, is during photo sessions. They’ll all stand in front of the camera, so they can be properly framed.

“China is beginning to hijack the Sovereignty of various Africa Nations through these unending paper-loans our Political Leaders are collecting and sharing amongst themselves. And ofcourse, we all know the clause attached to these loans if you default.

“It is still better they give us the ugly truth, than a pretty little lie. The African Politicians are gradually montgaging the the future of Africa. An average African child is born into debt. So where is our Africa that possesses all the natural resources on earth, the most fertile land and friendly weather. Why are all of these bountiful resources not reflecting in the people?

“We need to take charge now! As for these Political Leaders, they’re not interested in our future, so we have to take advantage of the Africa youthful population, which is the biggest Young population in the world. We all need to stand up to the original reality that Africa belongs to all of us!”

BusinessGodwin Emefiele: A Roadmap That Has Define The Nigerian Banking Sector by soloenzo(op): 11:22am On Jun 30, 2020
The Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN) which commenced full operation on July 1 1959, was established by CBN Act of 1958, in order to enhance the effectiveness of monetary policy, regulation and supervision of banks as well as non-banking financial institutions. Also, the CBN helps to ensure monetary and price stability as well as rendering economic advice to the Federal Government.

In 1997 under the regime of Late Gen Sani Abacha, the CBN was placed under the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Finance. Under this Decree, CBN was directly responsible to the Minister of Finance with respect to the supervision and control of bank and other financial institutions. The Apex bank lacked autonomy but given subjugated role in the monitoring of the financial institutions with little room for the Bank to exercise discretionary powers.

The present autonomous powers used by the apex bank today was bestowed upon it by the CBN Act 2007. This Act provides that the CBN shall be a fully autonomous body in the discharge of its functions. Under the Act, the CBN is charged with the objective of promoting stability and continuity in economic management.

Since 1958 till date, the CBN has had twelve governors with Mr Godwin Emefiele succeeding Sarah Alade on June 3 2014.

Mr Godwin Emefiele from Delta state is a seasoned Nigerian economist who was born in Lagos in 1961. He is the former Chief Executive Officer of Zenith Bank PLC. Mr Godwin Emefiele had 26 years of Commercial banking experience before he became the Governor of CBN.

Mr Emefiele in his maiden press briefing on June 6 2014 after his resumption of office gave a presentation titled; ENTRENCHING MACROECONOMIC STABILITY AND ENGENDERING ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT IN NIGERIA. During the press briefing, Mr Emefiele maintained that his vision for the Central Bank of Nigeria is to create a people-centred Central Bank by “delivering price and financial system stability and promoting sustainable economic development”.

Mr Emefiele has been an Ex-Officio Member of the Board of Governors in the International Monetary Fund (IMF) since 2018. And also, a Member of the Governing Board of International Islamic Liquidity Management Corporation (IILM) since 2018 till date.

In May 9 2019, Mr Godwin Emefiele’s name was submitted to the Senate for reappointment by President Muhammadu Buhari and asked the for approval. His reappointment was confirmed on May 10 2019 for the second term of five years. Mr Emefiele’s reappointment confirmed him as the first CBN governor to get a two-term mandate since the return to civil rule in 1999.

Mr Godwin Emefiele’s Achievements As CBN Governor From 2014 till Date

During his first term, he supervised an interventionist currency policy at the behest of the presidency, propping up the Nigerian Naira by pumping billions of dollars into the foreign exchange market.

He also introduced a multiple exchange rate regime to try to mask pressure on the Naira and avoid a series of devaluations.

On January 1 2016, the Mr Godwin Emefiele’s CBN administration introduced the Zero Commission on Turnover (COT). According to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), the COT is the removal of commission on all customer-induced debit transactions by Deposit Money Banks (DMBs) in the country. The CBN through the Revised Guide to Bank Charges (RGBC) of 1 April 2013, provides gradual steps towards the application of this policy. The guide stipulated a phase-out plan from =N=3 (2013), to =N=2 (2014),to =N=1 (2015) and =N=0 (2016). Also, the policy permits customers to negotiable COT in each of the relevant year subject to the maximum stated in the plan.

Under Emefiele as governor, CBN introduced a series of measures which led to the recovery of Nigeria’s economy from the recession by the 1st Quarter of 2017. Building on these efforts, Nigeria’s external reserves rose from $23bn in October 2016 to over $45billion by June 2019. Inflation also dropped from 18.72 percent in January 2017 to 11.40 percent in May 2019.

Also, Nigeria’s GDP growth rose for seven consecutive quarters following the recession, and our exchange rate appreciated from over N525/$1 in February 2017 at the BDC window to N360/$1. With improved inflow of foreign exchange, the exchange rate has remained stable around N360/$1.

With Mr Emefiele as governor of CBN, Capital Adequacy Ratio for the banking industry improved from 11 percent in June 2017 to over 16 percent in May 2019 and liquidity levels have also increased by over 20 percent within the same period. In addition, the ratio of non-performing loans in the banking system has reduced from 15 percent in June 2017 to 9 percent in May 2019, due to concerted efforts by the CBN and the DMBs.

With Regards to access to credit under Emefiele, the CBN, increased investment by the MSMEs and in addition, encouraged consumer spending and reduce our reliance on revenues from crude oil. To achieving this, the CBN under Emefiele introduced Anchor Borrowers Program, which has improved access to finance for over 1m small holder farmers. This was seen as efforts to improve cultivation of agricultural commodities, such as rice, tomatoes, fish, cotton and palm oil.

The Anchor Borrowers Program also enabled agro-processors and manufacturers to source their inputs from local sources, rather than relying on the importation of these items.

One of the major achievements credited to Emefiele as CBN Governor is the opening of the I&E window and the stabilizing Naira. The stability of exchange rate in recent months appear to have improved foreign reserves despite slow inflow foreign capital flows into the Nigerian economy.

Also, the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) under Emefiele recently reduced Monetary Policy Rate (MPR) by 50 points, and analysts have been critical if the reduction in MPR is enough to accelerate growth.

On April 15 2020, Mr Godwin Emefiele and the CBN projected eight (cool significant steps to transform Nigeria as Coronavirus pandemic lingers. This was unveiled in a document titled; ‘Turning The COVID-19 Tragedy into an Opportunity for a New Nigeria’.

Emefiele told the press that, Nigeria cannot continuously rely on the world for food, education and healthcare, as the time has come to fully transform the nation into a modern, sophisticated and inclusive economy that is self-sufficient.

The Eight significant measures or steps according to CBN governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele included;

Quality infrastructure
As far as he is concerned, building a base of high-quality infrastructure is of the essence of any economy that desires to grow and be independent. According to him, such qualitative infrastructure is not complete without reliable power, as that is the only way to engender industrial activity.

Support for farmers
Emefiele added that if operators in the agriculture sector lack adequate support, the nation would still be far from its inclusive goal. He said, “We need to make adequate support for both smallholder and large scale agriculture production in select staple and cash crops.”

Ecosystem of factories
Importance of an ecosystem of factories and supply chains is also key to the plans of the CBN governor. According to him, it would be strategic for the nation to create an ecosystem of factories, storages and logistics companies that move raw materials to factories and finished goods to markets.

Robust educational system
No doubt, the nation needs new structures that better reflect the diverse learning requirements of Nigerian students. He said, “We need to Use our fiscal priorities to create a robust educational system that enables critical thinking and creativity, which would better prepare our children for the world of tomorrow.”

Developed Healthcare system
Health translates to wealth, so a nation that desires to be wealth must ensure its citizens are healthy. Emefiele too understands this fact, when he said in the document that it is important for Nigeria to develop a healthcare system that is trusted to keep all Nigerians healthy, irrespective of their social classes.

Affordable credit for SMEs
SMEs are the engine of every economy and their access to affordable credit determines their success. “We must facilitate access to cheap and long-term credit for SMEs and large corporates,” he added.

Pro-poor policies
Critics have argued over time that several policies in Nigeria are anti-poor. To address this, Emefiele emphasized on developing and strengthen pro-poor policies that bring financial services and security to the poor and the vulnerable.

Global competition
To expedite favourable global competition for Nigerian businesses, the CBN governor called for the development of venture capitalists for nurturing new ideas and engendering local businesses.

The seasoned Economist, former Zenith Bank PLC Managing Director and CEO and former Finance Lecturer went further to opined that Nigeria has all it takes to provide all these. He also said we should learn some lessons from India which recently banned exports.

RAY WILKINS: CHELSEA TO MANCHESTER UNITED (1979)

England great Ray Wilkins became a star at Chelsea more or less from the moment he made his debut at the age of 17 in 1973.

The midfielder quickly established himself in the first team, becoming their youngest-ever captain at 18.

However, after failing to help the Blues avoid relegation in 1979, 'Butch' was signed by United for £825,000 and won the FA Cup in his fourth season at Old Trafford.

PoliticsIkpeazu To Timi Frank: “You Blackmailed Jonathan, Used And Dumped By APC” by soloenzo(op): 1:34pm On Jan 19, 2020
The Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, through his media aide, Eyinnaya Appolos has replied accusations levelled against his person by a Popular PDP stalwart, Timi Frank.

On Saturday, Frank flayed Ikpeazu in a statement made available to the Press over his recent trip to the United Kingdom with President Muhammadu Buhari. Frank claimed that all PDP governors except Nyesom Wike actively lobbied to travel with the President, who is a member of the ruling APC.

Below is the full statement by Appolos;

“First, let us go to the Bible: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 (NLT), “For everything, there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away. A time to search and a time to quit searching. A time to keep and a time to throw away. A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be quiet and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace.” So says the Word of God.”

“For Timi Frank, the disgraced former Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and a strange-bed fellow in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), there is time for only one thing – time to seek personal comfort and self-aggrandizement.”

“For this reason, he was sacked as the APC Spokesperson, after his errand boy role in the league of politicians that blackmailed the Goodluck Jonathan and PDP led presidency, paving the way for President Mohammad Buhari and APC presidency, expired. Obviously, he was merely used and easily discarded. He was not worth more than that!”

“Evidence that he was never a member of the PDP, Timi did not speak as a faithful party man, but as a job-man, hiding under political activism.”

“It is, therefore, trite to conclude that he was truly a strange bedfellow in PDP prior to the 2019 general elections, whose only interest was what to gain in the Atiku Presidential ambition, which leaders of the party like Governor Okezie Ikpeazu worked genuinely hard to ensure was a success.”

“It is difficult to place why a Timi Frank, who was anonymous and unable to deliver PDP even in his ward in Bayelsa State during the last presidential election which PDP lost to APC, will try to vent his unguarded spleen on Governor Ikpeazu who has remained a committed member of the PDP.”

“Governor Ikpeazu is not just a member of the PDP in Ward 7, in Obingwa LGA of Abia State, he is the leader of the party in the state and one of the national leaders of the party. A committed and trusted one at that.
He was first elected Governor by Abians on the PDP platform in 2015 when Timi and his cohorts were busy frolicking in APC. In 2019, Governor Ikpeazu was re-elected by the Abia electorate on the same PDP platform. So, his primary assignment and loyalty is first to Abians, who employed him before even the platform.”

“As earlier said, according to the Bible, for everything, there is a time. The time for frontline party politics is over, the time we are in now, particularly for Governor Okezie Ikpeazu in Abia, is the time for governance. I hope Timi understands this?”

“Yes, Governor Ikpeazu is part of the Nigerian delegation led by Mr President, to the maiden UK- AFRICA INVESTMENT SUMMIT in London, United Kingdom. The arrangement for this trip had long been concluded before the controversial and unfair ruling of the Supreme Court that sacked Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha as Governor of Imo State took place. It was the sad judicial development that provoked the emergency PDP NEC meeting at about the same time Governor Ikpeazu was airborne to the UK.”

“In case Timi is not aware, Governor Ikpeazu is not on the President Buhari-led delegation to the maiden UK- AFRICA INVESTMENT SUMMIT holding in London because he wants to enjoy the comfort of the presidential jet, but the Scholar-in-Governance Governor of Abia State is on the delegation because he is the bearer of one of the most important reasons Nigeria is part of the summit – the Enyimba Economic City Project.

Recall that in 2018, the Federal Government and Abia State Government signed Definitive Agreements for the Enyimba Economic City Zone Limited.”

“The signing took place at the Presidential Villa and the Federal Government was represented by Nigeria Special Economic Zone Company. President Muhammadu Buhari, who witnessed the signing, commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for initiating the Project, and thanked the Abia State host communities for their commitment to it.”

“The President further assured the people of Abia State and other Nigerians of the Federal Government’s support and cooperation towards similar projects anywhere in the country. President Buhari specifically commended Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu, and some private sector investors who initiated and midwifed the Enyimba Economic City Zone project.”

“He said such initiatives were exactly what his administration was desperately looking for to create employment for the populace and boost the nation’s economy. So, the inclusion of Governor Ikpeazu on the delegation to the maiden UK-AFRICA INVESTMENT SUMMIT in London, is another opportunity for Nigeria, through Governor Ikpeazu, to speak to the world about the Enyimba Economic City project, and why their buy-in is necessary.”

“At the UK summit, the British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, will be hosting African leaders, International Business Chief Executives and Heads of International Organizations, to create new partnerships that will deliver more investments and jobs to the benefit of people and businesses in African countries and the UK.”

“Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, as the initiator of the Enyimba Economic City project will speak to selected potential investors, on the invitation of the Department for International Development (DFID), on the need to key into the project situated in Aba.”

“Recall also that in November 2019, Governor Ikpeazu secured the nod of the African Development Bank (AfDB), private investors and other multilateral financial institutions for the investment of $430 million to fast track the development of the first phase of Enyimba Economic City, at the Africa Investment Forum (AIF) that held in Johannesburg, South Africa.”

“The city is a proposed free-trade zone, with independent business registry, labour law, banking regulations and more. It is located on over 9,500 hectares of land in the oil-producing communities of Abia State, between Aba and Port Harcourt.”

“Many participants at the South African forum agreed that Enyimba Economic City is a project worthy of their commitment and demonstrated their willingness to invest in the City. The UK- AFRICA INVESTMENT SUMMIT has presented, yet, another opportunity for Governor Ikpeazu to speak, expound and present the Enyimba Economic City project at the world stage.”

“Much as Governor Ikpeazu is not responsible for Timi’s unguarded spleen, no leader would prefer to attend a party meeting to attending a Summit where his ideas and programs for his people will be beamed at the global stage. I can assure Timi Frank that even the PDP is proud of this City, being the brainchild of one of its leading stars. Indeed there is time for everything.”

Foreign AffairsUS Strenghtens Singapore Military With Sale Of $2.75bn Fighter Jet by soloenzo(op): 2:53pm On Jan 10, 2020
The US promise of strengthening the Singaporean defense has almost partly been fulfilled after the United States on Friday approved the sale of 12 F-35 Fighter Jet to the Singaporean government for a sum of $2.75 billion.

As CBS and Channels TV reported, The State Department had approved the jet sale, said the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency, adding that the US Congress had been notified and must now also give the green light.

Despite its small size, Singapore has one of the region’s best-equipped armed forces and spends a large chunk of its national budget on defence.

“Singapore is the US's strategic friend and major security cooperation partner and an important force for political stability and economic progress in the Asia-Pacific region."

The US Defense Security Cooperation Agency promised that the deal “will not alter the basic military balance in the region."

The Singaporean government declared last year that it planned to acquire 8 fighters jets.

The one the government is about to acquire from the US pending the approval of the Congress is the Lockheed Martin model fighters jet.

PoliticsMalcolm Omirhobo Sues FG, CBN, AGF Over Arabic Inscription On Naira, Army Logo by soloenzo(op): 2:09pm On Jan 10, 2020
A Nigerian lawyer and Human Rights activist Barr. Malcolm Omirhobo has Thursday sued the Federal Government, Central Bank of Nigeria, Nigeria Army, Ministry of Defense and Attorney General of the Federation over the continuous Arabic inscription on the naira notes and the flag of the Nigerian Army without considering Nigeria to be a secular nation.

He is seeking a Federal High Court to interpret the provisions of Section 10 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He filed two suits.

The defendants in the suits are Central Bank of Nigeria, Attorney-General of the Federation, the Nigerian Army, as well as the Ministry of Defence.

Plaintiff is seeking a court interpretation whether by a community reading of Sections 10 and 55 of the 1999 Constitution, it is lawful and constitutional for the defendants to permit the Naira notes to be adorned with Arabic inscriptions.

In the same vein, the plaintiff is asking whether by a community reading of Sections 1(1)(3), 10 and 55 of the 1999 Constitution, it is proper for the defendants to permit the Nigerian Army logo to be adorned, or inscribed in Arabic insignia.

He is seeking a court interpretation whether by the true letter and spirit of Section 10 of the 1999 Constitution, Nigeria is a secular state without any official religion.

He wants the court to declare that it is  illegal, unlawful, and unconstitutional to allow the Nigerian Army logo to be adorned, and inscribed in Arabic language, instead of the official English language or Hausa, Yoruba and Igbo which are the three main languages or ethnic groups in Nigeria.

The defendants are yet to reply. The Court also is yet to fix a date for the hearing of the case.

BusinessReno Omokri Advise On Saving, Sacrificing And Creating Wealth by soloenzo(op): 5:01pm On Jan 09, 2020
Reno Omokri, a Former Special Assistant to Nigeria's ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, and pastor of the Mind of Christ Christian Center in California and Abuja, via his twitter social media handle advised salary earners on how to save and invest in their future, towards wealth creation.

The popular social media antic went further to differentiate between been 'rich' and 'wealthy', and also buttressed on sacrificing for the future, despite how meagre a salary earner's income may be.

According to Reno Omokri,

"When you say your salary is too small for you to SAVE so you can INVEST, what you‘re saying is that you‘re unwilling to SACRIFICE for your future."

Do you think those who got WEALTHY did it without SACRIFICE? Without SACRIFICE you cant be SATISFIED!

"Most people don’t understand WEALTH."

"They think MONEY is WEALTH." False.

"JOBS can create MONEY, but JOBS can't create WEALTH."

"If you stop your JOB, you stop getting PAID."

"But if you have INVESTMENTS, you don’t have to WORK to get PAID." That is WEALTH, Reno concluded.

PoliticsThe US Congress Will Vote Thursday On Limiting Trump’s War-making Powers by soloenzo(op): 12:35pm On Jan 09, 2020
Following the conflict between the United States and the Republic of Iran over the killing of Iran's Most powerful General and Commander, Quasem Soleimani by the United States forces in Benghazi, Iraq on Friday and the disturbances it has geared in international politics across the globe, the US House Speaker Pelosi, has on Wednesday said that the Congress will vote on Thursday towards limiting the 'War Making Powers' of the President(Trump) of the US.

According to the US constitutional analysis, before any US president can declare war or involve in any act of war, he or she must seek the constitutional approval of the US legislature (Congress). But Trump did not notify the Congress.

Reports from Washington Post has it that Trump only tweeted about the Iranian war behavior after he ordered the killing of Quasem Soleimani.

But Trump didn’t notify Congress, and now he’s claiming this tweet should count as enough notification for anything and everything he does hereafter:

WashingtonPost War Power Act in the US Constitution Analysis.

Constitutionally, only Congress can declare war, so the president needs Congress’s approval for sustained military conflict. That’s the primary contour of the 1973 War Powers Act, which was passed in the wake of the Vietnam War to prevent another drawn-out, undeclared war.

On Wednesday, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced the House will use its authority under this law to try to curb President Trump’s actions in Iran. It’s not immediately clear what that looks like, but she said a vote will happen Thursday.

So what is the War Powers Act and how can Congress use it to stop a president’s military action they don’t approve of? Here’s an explainer.

First, what are war powers?

Letting Congress declare war sounds simple enough, but it’s actually tricky, mostly because: What’s war? Is it launching Tomahawk missiles at a Syrian chemical weapons program, as Trump has done in the past? Is it taking out a senior government official of a hostile country, as Trump did with Iranian commander Qasem Soleimani?

Recognizing war powers is kind of a know-it-when-you-see-it thing, experts have told The Fix as we’ve analyzed this over the years. But Congress has been reluctant to jump in and assert its authority to declare war because doing so carries such a high political risk.

That’s largely how presidents since George W. Bush have escaped congressional scrutiny for military action with or in Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria and now, Iran. Here’s a look at what a president can do militarily without Congress, what Congress can do to force the president’s hand, and why it’s an uphill battle in Congress to do that.

What military action can a president take without Congress?

A president’s unilateral power is “something short of war. It’s the use of force by the president to achieve an immediate end,” said Phillip Carter, a senior fellow with the national-security-focused Center for a New American Security think tank, speaking to The Fix shortly after Trump launched a missile strike on Syria in April 2017 to retaliate for that regime’s use of chemical weapons.

One key and somewhat obvious indicator that Congress should be notified within 48 hours of sending troops into conflict, as the War Powers Act indicates, is if the president does something that risks triggering a sustained military conflict, said Cornell Law Dean Jens David Ohlin in an email to The Fix.That appears to be the case here: Iran has promised to retaliate, and the Pentagon has told thousands of troops to be ready for action in the Middle East.

“Legal scholars have long recognized that the need for congressional approval increases with the possibility of escalation, even in the case of an isolated military operation,” Ohlin wrote. “For this reason, Trump should have consulted Congress, and arguably should have sought approval for, a military action that could escalate to all-out war with Iran.”

Experts The Fix talked to after Trump launched a missile into Syria in 2017 said that strike was probably okay without congressional approval, as long as it was a one-off. Carter also pointed out that President Ronald Reagan didn’t seek congressional approval when he bombed Libya in retaliation for a bombing of a Berlin club in 1986. In the ’90s, both President George H.W. Bush and President Bill Clinton ordered bombings in Iraq on their own, in between the Persian Gulf War and the Iraq War.

What Congress can do to reassert itself?

That’s a tough question, because experts largely agree that lawmakers over the years have let their jurisdiction over declaring war slip over to the executive branch.

To take it back, they would probably have to make a bold move. Passing a resolution like the House might to tell Trump he can’t launch missiles in Iran, for example, is a bold move.

Pelosi also says the House is considering repealing the legal authorization Trump has used thus far to carry out attacks in Iran and Syria, and to defund anything related to Iran. (Since Congress’s other main function is power of the purse.)

But these resolutions don’t initially seem to have any Republican support and thus less of a chance to make it to Trump’s desk and affect his Iran policy.

Why it’s been so difficult for Congress to regain its control over war powers

Congress has spent the past two decades struggling to come to a consensus what kind of military action to authorize for presidents. It’s a really hard thing to agree to, policy-wise and politically.

The only two authorizations of military force on the books right now are nearly 18 years old and arguably out of context with everything we’re talking about here. In the years after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, Congress authorized President George W. Bush to battle al-Qaeda.

President Barack Obama recognized this limitation and tried to get Congress to pass a new authorization of military force to allow him to go after the Islamic State, even as he somewhat awkwardly argued he had enough authority under the Bush AUMF. (AUMF is what these things are called in D.C. speak.)

But Obama never got that vote. His request for a three-year authorization of force in Syria got torn apart between liberal Democrats and libertarian Republicans who didn’t want to okay military action in any form, and hawkish Republicans who wanted to give the president more authority than he asked for.

Those factions still exist in Congress today. On the whole, Democrats are skeptical of giving Trump more authority to wage conflict abroad, while Republicans seem okay letting the president take unilateral action. In fact, a number of Republicans commenting about Trump’s Soleimani killing don't see a need for a new AUMF.

But even if there were a bipartisan consensus that Congress needed to put guardrails around Trump, it is very difficult to get lawmakers to take such a difficult vote, especially in an election year.

They would be on the record authorizing an unknown scale of conflict, for an unknown amount of time. (You can put limitations on AUMFs, but the recent past has shown presidents blow right past those.) Remember when Hillary Clinton’s 2001 vote to authorize the Iraq War helped Obama win the 2008 Democratic primary?

AUMFs also don’t end with administrations. So lawmakers will also be on the record authorizing conflict for presidents other than Trump, as soon as next January. Why would Republicans in particular authorize such expansive powers for a potential Democratic president?

We haven’t even gotten into the nitty-gritty details of how long such an authorization should be for, what countries it should encompass, and what kind of military action it should encompass.

Wrap it all up, and you can see how difficult it is for Congress to do anything to put limitations on Trump as the potential for another conflict in the Middle East escalates, and to enforce its right to know about sustained military conflict before it happens.

PoliticsExclusive: Boko Haram Defeated Prior To 2015 But Buhari Terminated Our Contract by soloenzo(op): 9:12am On Jan 08, 2020
A private military contractor, Eeben Barlow, has provided a fresh insight as to why the war against Boko Haram insurgents still persists almost five years after incumbent Nigeria’s president, Muhammadu Buhari, assumed office in 2015

Barlow said the BH terrorists are still on the prowl and launching deadly attacks on innocent civilians and towns in the North East because of foreign interests.

The South African military consultant spoke during an interview with Aljazeera.

Barlow, who is the Chairman of Specialized Tasks Training Equipment and Protection International, a foreign private Army, said their security outfit had successfully liberated and recaptured back several towns in Borno State from insurgents, prior to the inauguration of Buhari as President.

This confirmed the report of PRNigeria that during the tenure of Sambo Dasuki as the National Security Adviser (NSA) under President Goodluck Jonathan, Nigerian troops with ‘foreign technical assistance’ recovered many towns and villages from Boko Haram terrorists in Adamawa, Borno and Yobe States. Some of the liberated towns then included, but are not limited to, Abadam, Askira, Baga, Bama, Bara, Buni Yadi, Damboa, Dikwa, Gamboru-Ngala, Goniri, Gujba, Gulag, Gulani, Gwoza, Hong, Kala Balge, Konduga, Kukawa, Marte, Madagali, Michika, Monguno, Mubi, and Vimtim, among other communities. The special operation also recorded a massive invasion of Sambisa Forest where 234 abductees (women and children) were rescued on a single day, April 30, 2015.

But regrettably, the first thing the President did upon assuming office in 2015, according to Barlow, was to terminate their military contract in a bid to gratify the United States of America, who he said sponsored Buhari’s campaign.

Barlow firmly asserted that the US actually sponsored Buhari’s campaign, noting that the 2015 campaign manager for PMB is from US.

“The administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan saw the war against insurgency, and especially the contract with our private Army has a veritable tool to regain popularity among the masses.

“But the then incoming president, Muhammadu Buhari, was heavily supported by the US, and one of his first mission as President after May 2015, was to terminate their contract,” he said.

Asked why he thinks the US will intervene to abort their operation which was yielding success, Barlow, who is the author of “Composite Warfare: The Conduct of Successful Ground Force Operations in Africa”, explained: “I am not saying the US is a bad country. I also understand their foreign interest. But one would have thought that with the threat Boko Haram posed to Nigeria’s territorial integrity, they should be a priority for any country desirous of helping Nigeria eliminate them.”

Barlow maintained that foreign forces have only prolonged, rather than end violent conflicts in most African States.

Foreign AffairsUS Deny Iran's Foreign Minister Visa To Attend UN Meeting. Watch Video by soloenzo(op): 7:11am On Jan 08, 2020
Following the continues rift and international conflict between the United States and Iran over the death of General Qasem Soleimani killed by the US in Baghdad last week, Washington has denied Iran's Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to attend the UN's Security Council Meeting coming up on Thursday in New York.

According to the 1947 UN “headquarters agreement,” the United States is generally required to allow access to the United Nations for foreign diplomats. But Washington says it can deny visas for “security, terrorism and foreign policy” reasons.

The topic for discussion for the upcoming UN Security Council meeting is 'upholding the Charter of the UN.'
