this morning, as i was going to the office, i saw like 10 people crying and roling themselve on the ground chanting slogans to the men of the nigerian military force. according to one of the recriuters the soldgers drop them this morning after all the screening with hard training that they have undergone successfully for 2weeks now. he went on to say that they are suposed to be in the bus that just left a few minite to zaria but unluckly for them they were droped and replaced with other people that never participated in the training that last for two weeks.


this happened in 82 div. enugu.
like 6 people died during the recruitment, and the state that particepated are enugu,anambra and ebonyi state

Boko Haram vows to attack Southern Nigeria – Names Cities to Attack0 CommentsBy admin

Security Agencies today uncovered the plot by the militant Islamic sect, Boko Haram, to commence its operations at the southern part of the country.

Source tell us in Abuja on Friday that the sect had pointed at some prominent cities for possible attack. The cities among others are Lagos, Ibadan, Enugu, Onitsha and Warri.

It was gathered that the move to extend its tentacle came due to the constant attack on the sect members in most parts of the North.

Another source revealed that the reasons for for the extension of its operation to the South, was to avoid limiting its campaign to an ethnic affairs.

Another security source revealed that it’s possible that some of the Boko Haram sect members were presently in the some Southern states.

The source revealed thus, “It was not a coincidence that Sokoto, who had been on the wanted list of the police before December 25, was sighted in Lagos.

“His presence in Lagos was not for fun. This is one of the angles security agencies are working on.

“I think the group has noticed that security is not tight in the South and there have not been bombings. They are out to cash in on the laxity.”

The Senate Committee on Police had stated that Sokoto was also seen in Lagos after his escape

The committee chairman, Senator Paulinus Nwagu, while presenting the report of the probe said, “Police intelligence revealed that prior to his arrest on January 14, 2011, Kabiru Sokoto had been on the wanted list of security agencies.

“Sokoto was reported to have been noticed within the vicinity of Snake Island, Lagos, and left Lagos sometime on December 13, 2011 and disappeared from surveillance monitoring until January 11, 2012.

“He was later traced to Abaji in the Federal Capital Territory.

“Police detectives traced him from Abaji to Abuja on the same date and further traced him to Asokoro-Abuja, where he was finally apprehended at about 0240 hours (2.40 am) on January 14, 2012, at the Borno State Governor’s Lodge at Iro Dan Musa Street, Asokoro, and Abuja.”

A security source stated, “Since the heat has been turned on them, they have been moving to Lagos and other cities, where they mix with unsuspecting northerners residing in those cities.”

He said that the sect’s plot to attack the South was aimed at further creating the impression that there was instability in the country.

The source said, “You will observe that activities of the sect are ebbing due to unrelenting efforts of security agencies.

“But Boko Haram is also devising another method. This time around, it is looking at ways of attacking the South.”

On the contrary, Muslim leaders have denied such intention , stating that penetrating into states would almost mean a suicide mission.

Police arraign woman for pouring faeces on banker

AKURE – The Police in Akure, Tuesday, arraigned a 28-year-old woman, Folashade Babatunde before an Akure Senior Magistrate’s Court for allegedly pouring faeces on a female banker.

The accused, a trader and Higher National Diploma student at Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo in Ondo State was docked before Mrs Rabi Abdulahi on a two-count charge of act likely to cause breach of the peace and assault.

Babatunde was accused of pouring faeces on one Agnes Olasehinde, a 27-year-old banker with the First Bank Plc, Alagbaka branch, Akure.

The offence, according to the Police Prosecutor, ASP Ayodele Atandeyi, was allegedly committed on February 24, about 12.30 p.m. at the First Bank Plc, Alagbaka branch, Akure.

She was accused of conducting herself in a manner likely to cause breach of the peace by bringing into the banking hall a can containing faeces.

This, the police said constituted an offence contrary to and punishable under section 249 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. I laws of Ondo State 2006.

Babatunde was also accused of assaulting Olasehinde by pouring faeces on her body, contrary to and punishable under Section 351 of the Criminal Code Cap 37 Vol. I laws of Ondo State 2006.

The accused person who elected summary trial at the court pleaded not guilty to the two charges when they were read to her in English language.

But in her statement to the police, the accused, who gave her address as No. 47, Ekusi Street, Owo, admitted that she poured the faces on Olasehinde because she was going out with her husband.

Atandeyi informed the court that he had two witnesses to call to prove the case against the accused person and asked for an adjournment to enable him study the case file.

The Counsel to the accused person, Mr Christopher Titiloye, did not object to the adjournment sought by the prosecutor, but urged the court to admit his client to bail pending the final determination of the matter.

In her ruling, the magistrate granted bail to the accused person in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum, who must reside within the jurisdiction of the court.

The sureties, the court ruled must swear to affidavit of means and must be property owners in the jurisdiction of the court.

Abdulahi adjourned the matter to March 27, for hearing.

North revenue demand immoral – Group

A group known as the Concerned Advocates for Good Governance has described as immoral, the agitation by northern governors for a review of the sharing formula of oil revenue.

CAGG warned that the call for equity in oil derivation could overheat the polity and called on the northern governors to desist from it.

Speaking with THE PUNCH in Port Harcourt on Saturday, the National Coordinator of the group, Mr. Olusegun Bamgbose, explained that the Niger Delta had gone through a lot of deprivation in the past and deserved more funds than the northern states.

Bamgbose, who is a lawyer, described the oil derivation accruing to oil bearing states as statutory, adding that the north should be grateful to the Niger Delta for producing the wealth of the nation.

Explaining that the country was still battling with the menace of the Boko Haram sect, he noted that it would be wrong for any persons to begin to talk about the sharing formula of oil revenue.

He said, “The agitation in oil derivation is immoral, unethical and unreasonable. If you don’t want the giver, then you have to despise his gift. They (northern governors) should not overheat the polity.”

JOS — TWO suicide bombers in a Golf car, yesterday, crashed into the headquarters of the Church of Christ in Nigeria, COCIN, in the Plateau State leaving at least five people dead and about 40 people injured.

At least five others, most of them commercial motorcyclists were said to have been killed in reprisal attacks by irate youths in different parts of the city. Some shops around Bank Road were also torched by protesting youths.

Divine intervention saved what could have resulted in several deaths as the car laden with improvised explosive devices including industrial and refrigerator gas cylinders exploded just metres away from the church building.

A motorcycle was said to have blocked the way and the car exploded as the suicide bomber tried to overrun it into the church building. About 30 cars within the premises were damaged while glasses of buildings around 500 metres radius of the church were smashed.

The suicide bomber was blown into smithereens while the car was also mangled beyond recognition with only the engine identifiable. His accomplice who jumped out of the car before the explosion was lynched as he tried to escape after the blast.

The blast which occurred at about 7.25 a.m while the first service was already on, shook most parts of the state capital with residents in far-flung parts attesting to feeling the vibration in their homes.

A security officer of the church who narrated the incident said the car forced its way into the church premises and sped towards the church before crashing into the motorcycle which stopped it from getting into the church building.

Irate church members pounced on a soldier alleged to have flagged the vehicle into the premises without proper check and would have lynched him but for the intervention of some church leaders. The soldier was later taken away ostensibly for interrogation.

Governor Jonah Jang who visited the church premises and some of the injured at the Plateau Specialist Hospital condemned the incident coming when efforts were on to consolidate on the return of peace to the state.

He directed security agencies to beef up security at churches and mosques to prevent any further attack adding that no effort would be spared to sustain the peace in the state.

The governor who was accompanied by the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Dipo Ayeni, Commandant of the Civil Defence Corps, Mr. Desmond Agu and the Minister of Water Resources, Mrs. Sarah Ochekpe appealed to the people not to take the laws into their hands but to allow security agencies to fish out the perpetrators of evil.

Reacting to the incident Executive Director of Centre for the Advocacy of Justice and Rights, Mr. Gad Peter, condemned the bombing describing it as “clear indication that the security of the state is under a new threat and all citizens must be alert.”

He urged the new commander of the Special Task Force in the state to “ensure that the peace Jos enjoyed in the last few months under the control of his predecessor is sustained.”

Meanwhile, the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, said in a statement that three people were killed in the blast while 38 were hospitalized. A statement by NEMA spokesman, Yushau Shuaib said the organization and the Red Cross had completed evacuation of victims at the scene.

Boko Haram claims responsibility
Boko Haram Islamic sect, yesterday, said it was behind the suicide bomb attack outside the church in Jos, and warned of more such assaults.

Its spokesman, Abul Qaqa, told reporters in a conference call: “We carried out the attack on COCIN church in Jos today and we did what we did as part of our resolve to avenge the killings and dehumanisation of Muslims in Jos in the last 10 years.”

President Jonathan condemns violence

President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, condemned the suicide bombing at COCIN in Jos and the mindless acts of reprisal that followed the incident. He said in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati, that those who sought to divide the nation by fear and terror, would not succeed.

The president said: “The indiscriminate bombing of Christians and Muslims is a threat to all peace-loving Nigerians. Mr. President will continue to stand firm to ensure the safety and security of all Nigerians while ensuring that the relevant institutions move against those who disregard the sanctity of life in the pursuit of sectarian ambitions.”

He said that government was “gradually and firmly bringing justice to those behind the attacks and exposing their identities and dismantling their terror infrastructure,” adding that “those behind similar acts of terror in recent times have been arrested and are being investigated with a view to prosecuting them accordingly as a deterrent to others.”

FG still open for dialogue - Maku
Mr Labaran Maku, Minister of Information, said the government was still open to dialogue with members of the Boko Haram sect.

Maku who said this at a Security Conference organised by UK-based BEN Television in London, noted: “We are ready to talk to them but we need to have a platform for that to happen. We will continue to maintain the pressure. Even in Afghanistan, the Americans are talking to the Taliban.”

Maku, who said it was untrue that the government did not have a strategy in place to fight terrorism, added: “in the midst of war you must develop a strategy. We currently have a West African strategy where all our security chiefs across the region are meeting regularly to discuss cross-boundary problems, including terrorism. We have a strong national resource and capacity to tackle this menace and are open to fresh ideas on this menace.”

He said that some members of the group were willing to talk to the gov ernment, adding that it was no longer a unified organisation. “This is a war of minds; it’s not just a military or security war; how to talk to them is a long drawn process. We need to know who they are.”

Also, Hon Abike Dabiri-Erewa , Chairman House Committee on Diaspora, said that Boko Haram was neither a religious nor ethnic group. She said: “It is a social, economic and political issue and some people just want to use it to destabilise the political process.” The lawmaker, who commended the government for its efforts at tackling the menace, however, said more needed to be done.

Boko Haram activities getting out of hand—CAN

National President of Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor said the Boko Haram sect was getting out of hand and unless the government demonstrates the political will to deal decisively with the trend Nigeria will soon overtake the rest of the world as a terrorist nation.

Oritsejafor said: “Why will such individuals not be shown the way out of the civil service and prosecuted for the great disservice they have done to the country that pays their bill?” Pastor Oritsejafor, in a telephone interview said the war against terror should go beyond the change of guards at the Police Force, and should be extended to the prosecution of all those fingered as sponsors of the Boko Haram sect.

He said: “For far too long, we have pretended that all is well with this project Nigeria, even when it is obvious that we are deceiving ourselves.”

In his reaction, renowned televangelist, Rev Uma Ukpai, warned members of the Islamic militant group, to stop further violent attacks or risk another civil conflagration which will not be in the interest of anyone.

Addressing select media partners in Lagos, Rev Ukpai said: “They will not succeed. Boko Haram cannot divide the country. Remember, they don’t have the monopoly of violence.

Their current campaign can only push us to the wall and if they push us to the wall, we will have no choice than to fight back and it would be devastating because they are fighting with anger, but ours will be prosecuted with calculated precision

There was commotion at the Akure main branch of the First Bank of Nigeria Plc on Friday afternoon when a young lady, Miss Sade Babatunde, entered the bank with a polythene bag full of faeces packaged in a can and allegedly poured the content on a cashier who was attending to customers.

Our correspondent gathered that Babatunde, who came to Akure from Owo town, went straight to the cashier, Miss Agnes Olasehinde, and accused her of snatching her husband in the presence of other bank workers and customers inside the banking hall.

It was further learnt that Babatunde opened the polythene bag and, before the security guards could stop her, allegedly poured the entire content with its offensive odour on Olasehinde who was neatly dressed in native attire.

The development caused a pandemonium as everybody inside the hall ran towards the electronically controlled door to escape from the stench which had taken over the entire hall.

Babatunde, according to sources within the bank, did not stop at that as she allegedly held Olasehinde and slapped her on the face severally.

Senior officials of the bank were said to have ordered the security personnel attached to the branch to arrest Babatunde while the cleaners took Olasehinde to the toilet and washed her.

The management of the bank later provided a vehicle that took Olasehinde home so that she could clean herself properly and change her clothes.

An employee of the bank, who would not want his name published, described the development as not only an embarrassment to Olasehinde but also to the organisation.

The Police Public Relations Officer at the Ondo State Command, Mr. Aremu Adeniran, however told our correspondent on the telephone that the suspect had been arrested and detained by the police.

“The incident happened around noon on Friday and the suspect who is with us came to Akure from Owo with a can containing smelling faeces which she poured on the banker. She will be charged to court after necessary investigations have been carried out.”

Our correspondent however, gathered that the suspect was not legally married to the man who she accused the banker of snatching from her but that she already had a child for him.

JOS, February 26, (THEWILL) – A bomb has gone off inside a church in Jos, Plateau State.

The headquarterd of the Church of Christ in Nigeria church (COCIN) was rocked by an explosion on Sunday morning at about 8.am.

The church is located in the center of the city near a branch of the Central Bank of Nigeria. It is predominantly attended by Plateau indigenes. The Governor of Plateau State, Jonah David Jang also worships at the Church. It is however unclear whether he was at the church when the bomb went off.

Two sources have confirmed the explosion to the THEWILL.

An Islamic terrorist group, Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for several bombings in northern Nigeria.

A Bronx substitute teacher has been arrested after allegedly twisting a student’s nipples in school, prosecutors said.

Chukwuma Duru, 27, a substitute at Bronx Career and College Prep High School in Morrisania, was charged with forcible touching, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child.

The 16-year-old student told cops Duru touched his nipples inappropriately during two separate instances on Feb. 10.

Duru was released without bail.

His sister, Amarachi Duru, said she the charges against her brother were a “misunderstanding,” adding that he is an extremely religious man who is getting his masters.

“When I saw the news I started crying because I don’t think that’s something my brother would do. The story is all messed up,” she said. “It’s not like him at all and anyone who knows him would know.”

Duru has been a substitute in city schools since only December 2011. He was suspended from his job when he was arrested

Benue owes 150 teachers 4-yr salaries

Benue State Government owes some teachers four years’ salary arrears, according to Mr. David Tsevende, Chairman of Benue State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB.

He said this in Makurdi in reaction to an enquiry on reports that 150 primary school teachers, recruited by the board in 2008, had not been paid anything since they assumed duty four years ago.

The teachers had pleaded for the payment of their salaries and had described their situation as “grave injustice.”

The teachers, who pleaded anonymity for fear of being penalised, said they had undergone series of screenings without receiving the salaries.

They complained that the non-payment of their salaries had negatively impacted on their families, adding that “it has been difficult trying to make ends meet.”

Tsevende blamed the delay in the payment of the salaries on the 2008 Verification Exercise Committee which, he said, recommended the termina-tion of the appointments of the teachers.

Some of them said they had been unable to continue with the payment of rents and had been evicted. They said if the government does not need their services any more, they should be laid off rather than made to work without pay.

They, however, said in spite of the hardships they were facing they would not resign, claiming that if they did, their labour would be in vain.

Baring any last minutes change, top United States elite forces made up of members of the Marines, Navy Seals and Special Forces, will be in Nigeria in June as part of effort to help the country deal with the Boko Haram insurgence.

Nigeria and the United States Military have existing agreements in counter-terrorism, Maritime Security, military transformation and other areas.

A U.S. Army officer, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak on the mission said U.S. troop members on the mission have already been informed.

Monica Matoush, spokeswoman for the U.S Defense Department did not return calls when Pointblanknews.com sort for clarifications on the planned June mission.

Nicole M. Dalrymple Media Action Officer, West and Central Africa AFRICOM Public Affairs Office told us that she cannot immediately confirm the June mission but disclosed that counter terrorism, Maritime Security and others are areas the U.S is rendering assistance to Nigeria.

“If I’m able to find anything out about specific training in June I will let you know,” she told us  in an email exchange.

In public comments, Nigerian and U.S. officials acknowledge “strategic cooperation” and confirm high-level meetings. However, they play down the meetings as routine, apparently for fear the Northern Muslim leaders will be outraged.

The military source said the mission is purely training but did not rule out a possible change of plans based on a new request for assistance from Nigeria.

“The mission is purely for a training purpose but we understand there is a new request and I don’t know details of it yet. But if we have directive to do otherwise, then we won’t have any choice than to do just that. I am aware that some senior officials are in talks with some Nigerian officials for more help but I cannot say what other help it is.”

We could not confirm details of the latest request from the Nigerian Government to the U.S Military. Spokesperson for the Ministry of Defense,Colonel Mohammed and Army Spokesman, Colonel Usman Abdul did not pick up their calls.

The source confirmed that the soldiers on the mission would be drawn from AFRICOM and from those who just returned from Iraq and Afghanistan because of their understanding of the Arab world.

Dalrymple however disclosed, “our partnership with Nigeria is focused in four areas requested by the Nigerians. Those areas are maritime security, crisis response (i.e. peacekeeping operations, pandemic response, airlift), counter terrorism, and military transformation (i.e.joint doctrine development, integration of women into the military, civil-military capability).

She said while there are no U.S. troops on the ground in an operational capacity assisting the Nigerian military in their response to Boko Haram attacks, “Nigeria is a member of the U.S. State Department’s Trans Sahara Counter Terrorism
Partnership.”

According to her, “In recent years, at Nigeria’s request, the U.S. has been working with the Nigerian military on their nascent counter-force through recurring training events.

“This training has included basic soldiering skills, basic small unit infantry tactics and leadership training,” she told us.

Boko Haram employs the tactics of Al-Qaeda, using suicide bombers and waging guerilla warfare in their quest to Islamize Nigeria. Their insurgency has led to several deaths and destruction of properties including the United Nations building in the Nigeria capital of Abuja in 2011.

Ambassador J. Anthony Holmes, U.S. Africa Command’s civilian Deputy had in October 2011 said “Given the realities on the continent, however, our focus tends to be on Somalia and the surrounding countries to deal with al-Shabaab, and in West Africa, al-Qaida in the Islamic Maghreb, which is based in northern Mali but increasingly has ties with Boko Haram in northern Nigeria. So we try to assist the governments and militaries of the countries in that region to develop the capacity to come to grips with and solve its own terrorism problem.

Gunmen suspected to be members of the terrorist Islamic sect, Boko Haram, on Thursday killed four policemen and injured another two near the house of the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.

In Minna, Niger State, some gunmen suspected to be members of the sect similarly killed two policemen.

Also, a bomb suspected to have been planted by the sect was discovered at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, located on Church Road, Minna, by members who attended the Ash Wednesday mass.

On Christmas Day last year, Boko Haram bombs killed 44 parishioners at the St. Theresa’s Catholic Church, Madalla, also in Niger State.
