You may be lost but I'm not. This entire conversation is a spin off from the one initially started based on the "aba-made" stats posted by Sarrki with the sole aim of showing the SE as the least productive region, which both the "aba-made" stats and your "reliable" stats have debunked.

What converse with a troll that argue without facts? Whatever that was, the artificial table you provided that lack integral part is nothing but nonsense.

Now, let me ask you, is Ogun and few states missing or not in that news you called stat or not?

You are a joke honestly. cheesy

This data that you now discount is the sole reason for this thread and other associated conversations this week.
A user named Sarrki post these stats quoting the same source you now discard and you all jumped on it because it said SE had the lowest IGR, hence productivity. I countered that based on the elementary of IGR and you then try to step over the point. If we go by stats you provided after the fact, then NE had the lowest IGR and productivity in 2018 and the NW had the next lowest productivity so the assertion that SE is the least productive region is still invalidated.
If the stats Sarrki posted are inaccurate, then why was it fit for purpose and his source not questioned as long as it furthered an agenda.
You are the one attempting to be clever (by half)

Your line of argument actually sounds silly, Akwa Ibom and Rivers with 1/4 of Lagos state's population, huge allocations, and IGR are actually richer than Lagos state and they really should be far ahead of Lagos state, but they are not because it's not always about advantage, money or commercial capital, it's always about leadership talent and personal qualities of the administrators.

Commerce is all about money and the SS states have more of it and less population than Lagos regardless of Lagos state as whatever commercial capital you are talking about

You can have all the money and advantages in the world, but unless you know how to manage it for more growth, you are not going anywhere.

Abeg stop the weak argument.

And you believe employment opportunities, industries, leveraging natural resources etc that I mentioned previously are independent of quality of leadership? Or you didn't quite comprehend?
Fact is, Lagos has has a head start in these areas over other states. I don't know enough about Ogun State.

You just have to laugh at their infantile and comedic excuses.

Ogun generating more revenue than the SE is highly doubtful given that the report you based your comparison on shows SW IGR to be 877.8 billion with Lagos generating 501.2 billion of that amount. Unless you are saying Ondo, Osun, Ekiti and Oyo states generated a combined total less than 35 billion, there's no way Ogun generated more than 340.1 billion which is the revenue allegedly generated by the SE in the post quoted below.

sarrki:
The total revenue received by the Lagos state government in 2018 was higher than what was received by the entire south-east region.

The south-east region consists of five states namely: Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu and Imo.

Lagos generated total revenue of N501.2 billion while the entire south-east region generated N340.1 billion.

The state’s 2018 revenue was also higher than that of the northeast and north-central, which was N351.5 billion and N378.7 billion respectively.

This is contained in the Quarterly Review document of the Nigeria Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (NEITI).

The revenue of states was calculated as the sum of the internally generated revenue (IGR) and allocations from the federation accounts allocation committee (FAAC).

The total IGR generated by states in 2018 was N1.103 trillion while the total FAAC allocations were N2.849 trillion.

Lagos state had the highest total revenue of N501.2 billion while Osun had the lowest at N33.2 billion.

“This implies that the total revenue of Lagos State was 13.9% of the combined total revenue of all states. Also, if the states with the highest and lowest revenues are compared, the revenue of Lagos State was 15 times or 1,518% of the revenue of Osun State,” the report read.

“The total revenue of Lagos State (N501.2 billion) exceeded total revenue of each of three zones: North Central (N378.7 billion), North East (N351.5 billion), and South East (N340.1 billion).

“While the total revenue received by Lagos State is higher than the total revenue of each of these zones, the total revenue of the South-South is higher than the combined total revenue of all three zones. The total revenue received by Lagos State is greater than the combined total revenues received by nine states (N449.49 billion) – Osun, Ekiti, Zamfara, Ebonyi, Gombe, Taraba, Cross River, Nasarawa, and Adamawa.”

On a zonal basis, the south-south zone recorded the highest total revenue (N1.102 trillion), followed by the south-west with N877.8 billion.

The north-west zone came in third with N546.5 billion, north-central with N378.7 billion, north-east with N351.5 billion and south-east recorded the lowest with N340.1 billion.

This is not about population ( I know not where you got your population figure thou) its about the igr and what each region generate.

By the way, if we are to focus more on population I should belief SE population is far and higher than SS. Ain't I right. grin

By the way, when we talk about igr in Nigeria and regional base forget numbers , it is all for the pride. Forget logic. grin

Stats from here based on Census 2006
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Nigerian_states_by_population
The wikipedia page references a document from population.gov.ng

The SE is actually the least populated region in Nigeria. I've seen many SW commenters on here claim that there are more Igbos outside of the SE than there are in the SE so it would follow that Igbos contribute more to the IGR of other regions than to that of the SE; that's besides the point however.
IGR comes from income, sales, taxes, fines etc. Workforce, employment opportunities, natural resources, industries contribute to these sources of revenue.
SE is pulling its weight despite being disadvantaged in all (arguably) of the indices above.

Lagos as the commercial capital bah?

I remember when Fashola was the governor of Lagos state, Lagos state with all the commercial capital excuse you are talking about used to borrow nearly half of their budget from banks while states like Akwa Ibom budgets even larger budgets than Lagos/Fashola, but Akwa Ibom still achieved less than Lagos state across the board.

It is not always about money, it's always about leadership and talented people making the right decisions.

Commercial capital doesn't alter the fact that Lagos is part of the SW, ruled and governed by the people of the SW with their talent and ingenuity and the same talent and ingenuity that the same people of the SW are massively replicating in Ogun state.

Funny when Lagos was generating measly N500 million per month, it wasn't a commercial capital and Tinubu was corrupt and greedy, but his ingenuity and smarts turned N500 million per month into well over N34 billion per month. So, what was responsible for that? Brains, smarts, talent, and ingenuity or just commercial capital.

Lagos is excelling because of good leadership and sensible leaders, not commercial anything. You can have all the money and opportunities in the world and still achieve nothing.

Lagos is thriving and is the commercial capital that every Nigerian seek for survival is available today because their leaders in Lagos.

Lagos is part of the SW, commercial capital or not.

You people need to stop discounting and using Lagos as a rallying cry to justify and rationalize incompetence and poor performance in other places.

Lagos is indisputably located in the SW. However, it would be silly to conveniently ignore the advantage Lagos has over all other states WRT revenue-generating agencies and infrastructure at the federal level.

I read the silly comments about SE's IGR with amusement; Nigerians are on average too unintelligent to evaluate factors that have an impact on IGR or to evaluate anything at all. In the absence of data relating to political and economic factors, demographics etc for each region and assuming a uniform distribution of tax eligible jobs and businesses, doing the basic math based on population would reveal that SE generated the 3rd highest revenue per person after SS and SW or 2nd highest after SS if Lagos was excluded from the SW's computation.

NC
Population - 20,368,918,
IGR - 378.7b
Per person - 18,592.95

NE
Population - 18,984,299
IGR - 351b
Per person - 18,515.30

NW
Population - 35,915,467
IGR - 546.5
Per person - 15,216.29

SE
Population - 16,395,555
IGR - 340.1b
Per person - 20,743. 43

SS
Population - 20,320,869
IGR - 1102b
Per person - 54,229.86

SW
Population - 27,722,432
IGR - 877.8b
Per person - 31,663. 89

Population (excluding Lagos) - 18,608,827
IGR (excluding Lagos) - 376.6b
Per person - 20,237.71

Clearly the SE isn't the least productive region.

Men also develop breast cancer. Make sure to get your symptoms thoroughly investigated at the hospital; and get a second opinion regardless of the initial diagnosis.
All the best.

Overview
Male breast cancer is a rare cancer that forms in the breast tissue of men. Though breast cancer is most commonly thought of as a disease that affects women, breast cancer does occur in men.

Male breast cancer is most common in older men, though it can occur at any age.

Men diagnosed with male breast cancer at an early stage have a good chance for a cure. Treatment typically involves surgery to remove the breast tissue. Other treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, may be recommended based on your particular situation.

Symptoms
Signs and symptoms of male breast cancer can include:

A painless lump or thickening in your breast tissue
Changes to the skin covering your breast, such as dimpling, puckering, redness or scaling
Changes to your nipple, such as redness or scaling, or a nipple that begins to turn inward
Discharge from your nipple

When to see a doctor
Make an appointment with your doctor if you have any persistent signs or symptoms that worry you.

Causes
It's not clear what causes male breast cancer.

Doctors know that male breast cancer occurs when some breast cells divide more rapidly than healthy cells do. The accumulating cells form a tumor that may spread (metastasize) to nearby tissue, to the lymph nodes or to other parts of the body.

Where breast cancer begins in men
Everyone is born with a small amount of breast tissue. Breast tissue consists of milk-producing glands (lobules), ducts that carry milk to the nipples, and fat.

During puberty, women begin developing more breast tissue, and men do not. But because men are born with a small amount of breast tissue, they can develop breast cancer.

Types of breast cancer diagnosed in men include:

Cancer that begins in the milk ducts (ductal carcinoma). Nearly all male breast cancer is ductal carcinoma.
Cancer that begins in the milk-producing glands (lobular carcinoma). This type is rare in men because they have few lobules in their breast tissue.
Other types of cancer. Other, rarer types of breast cancer that can occur in men include Paget's disease of the nipple and inflammatory breast cancer.
Inherited genes that increase breast cancer risk
Some men inherit abnormal (mutated) genes from their parents that increase the risk of breast cancer. Mutations in one of several genes, especially a gene called BRCA2, put you at greater risk of developing breast and prostate cancers.

If you have a strong family history of cancer, discuss this with your doctor. Your doctor may recommend that you meet with a genetic counselor in order to consider genetic testing to see if you carry genes that increase your risk of cancer.

Risk factors
Factors that increase the risk of male breast cancer include:

Older age. The risk of breast cancer increases as you age. Male breast cancer is most often diagnosed in men in their 60s.

Exposure to estrogen. If you take estrogen-related drugs, such as those used for hormone therapy for prostate cancer, your risk of breast cancer is increased.

Family history of breast cancer. If you have a close family member with breast cancer, you have a greater chance of developing the disease.

Klinefelter's syndrome. This genetic syndrome occurs when boys are born with more than one copy of the X chromosome. Klinefelter's syndrome causes abnormal development of the testicles. As a result, men with this syndrome produce lower levels of certain male hormones (androgens) and more female hormones (estrogens).

Liver disease. Certain conditions, such as cirrhosis of the liver, can reduce male hormones and increase female hormones, increasing your risk of breast cancer.

Obesity. Obesity is associated with higher levels of estrogen in the body, which increases the risk of male breast cancer.
Testicle disease or surgery. Having inflamed testicles (orchitis) or surgery to remove a testicle (orchiectomy) can increase your risk of male breast cancer.

This is an educative post. Kudos, sir.
I have two questions I'd like you to clarify on.
1: Why is "They are discussing about the weather" wrong?
Structure: discuss + about + sth or sb

Example:
The seminar was successful in bringing together local farmers to discuss about mechanized farming practices.

The clue is in the definition of the word "discuss". Discuss means "to talk about (something) with another person or group of people."
So if you discuss about a subject, you would be talking about about that subject.

2: You said 'mild' should be pronounced "mald". Shouldn't it be pronounced  / maɪld / with stress emphasis on the vowel 'I'?
Maild/myld is correct

P.S: often can be pronounced with or without the 't'
/ 'ɒfən, 'ɒftən /

Thanks.

Education / Re: Some Grammatical Blunders To Avoid by somegirl1: 4:34pm On May 04, 2019
Rapmoney:
Some Grammatical Blunders You Should Avoid

We make some grammatical blunders everyday in our interactions with others. I once visited a private school and was disappointed that the instructors in the school were not laying a good foundation for sound grammar for the kids. Children are very sensitive to copying what they see or hear. Teachers in schools and parents at home should be mindful of this because kids copy a lot and are greatly prone to accept what they hear as correct.

Below are some grammatical blunders we should avoid while speaking, especially, to kids:

1) 'Stop matching march me' (WRONG).
Instead, say ' Stop stepping on me'. To 'match march'
means to walk with quick calculated steps in unison
by a group of people, especially, in the military.

2) 'He is my junior brother' (WRONG).
Instead, they 'He is my younger brother'.

3) 'On my way to Lagos, I'll branch my sister's house'
(WRONG). Instead, say 'On my way to Lagos, I'll visit
my sister or I'll go to my sister's house'. There's no
verb as 'branch' in English which means the same
thing intended by the speaker.
( I will make a stopover or I'll visit my sister for a few hours/ days. Your correction does not capture the brevity of the visit that the slang "branch" is supposed to convey)

4) 'I saw your missed calls' (WRONG).
Instead, say 'I missed your calls'. The calls were
missed because you didn't pick or not disposed to
do that.
(The contexts are slightly different. Your recommendation would be correct if used as follows:- "I'm sorry I missed your calls". However, if you were explaining to someone that you've literally seen/ noticed their attempt(s) to reach you by phone in your call log, then "I've just seen missed calls from you" or "I saw missed calls from you yesterday" might be more apt)
5) 'He is drinking mineral' (WRONG).
Instead, say 'He is drinking mineral water or soda'.
Minerals are natural deposits, they are not foods or
beverages.

6) 'My car is more better than yours' (WRONG).
Instead, say 'My car is better than yours'. MORE and
BETTER are both comparative adjectives. Two
comparative adjectives are not used in same
sentence.

7) 'On the long run' (WRONG).
instead, say 'In the long run'.

8. 'Either Bisi or Ade are coming' (WRONG).
Instead, say 'Either Bisi or Ade is coming'. There are
two subjects in the sentence but only one person will be coming which makes it singular. Remember, 'IS' is a singular verb while 'ARE' is a plural verb.

9) 'Those are the men that caught the thieves'
(WRONG).
Instead, say 'Those are the men who caught the
thieves. 'WHO' and 'THAT' are relative pronouns
in this context. While 'who' is used for humans, 'that'
is used for things and animals.

10) 'They are discussing about the weather' (WRONG).
Instead, say 'They are discussing the weather.

The rest are more of Oral English, Phonics or Speech. That's speaking right.

11) OFTEN, LISTEN - Pronounce them without the letter 'T'. Such as 'ofen' and 'lisen'.
12) PERFECT - Pronounce it as 'pefekt pŭrfikt ' and not 'pafekt' - The pronunciation of ŭ is somewhere between o and a
13) ATE (past tense of eat) - Pronounce it as 'et' not 'hate' (It's ate as in hate)

For those taking IELTS, TOEFL and other English proficiency tests, you need to pay particular attention to the LISTENING SECTION. You may easily misunderstand the speaker if you don't pay attention to things you think do not matter.

We all have an opportunity to learn everyday. Strive to learn new things everyday.

God bless you.

Education / Re: Lady Makes Canadian University Drop Its IELTS Requirement For Nigerian Applicant by somegirl1: 4:12pm On Apr 26, 2019
The terrible grammar spewed on Nairaland on a daily basis is justification for the IELTS requirement.
Going by Nairaland comments, the average Nigerian lacks proficiency in English and comprehension skills.

Literature / Re: Achebe’s "Things Fall Apart" Named In Bbc’s 100 Stories That Shaped The World by somegirl1: 11:34pm On Apr 25, 2019
PharoahIII:
As a writer, I think I am in a better position to comment on this topic. Firstly you must appreciate that Achebe's mastery of the English language was second to none, although he did not have a flair for words as Soyinka does. In terms of scene depiction, Achebe was a genius. Achebe could describe a scene like none other. Achebe had total control of his audience, he knew how to keep them on their toes, wanting and practically begging for more. This is a feat Soyinka simply could not achieve. But in terms of consistency, I'll give it to Soyinka.
Soyinka's best work till date remains Death and the King's Horseman (The first time I opened this book I knew I was in literary heaven). If one were to take this work away from Soyinka, Soyinka will still be Soyinka. But if you take Things Fall Apart away from Achebe, Achebe will be a nobody. He'll be like a disrobed emperor. His other works were quite quotidian. Achebe was a master storyteller and writer, and Soyinka, more of a writer than a story teller.
If I had to choose between the two, I'd choose Soyinka, and that's only because storytelling in itself is a more difficult craft to master than writing.
Things fall apart is not a book, it is a bible.

Your analysis appears to be in direct conflict with your conclusion.
You stated story-telling is the more difficult literary style, and you declared Chinua Achebe to be the greater story-teller of the two; then you proceed to choose Wole Soyinka, who is master of the relatively easy literary style, in a debate about who's better.
How does that make sense?
