BLUES AIM FOR STYLE AND SUBSTANCE Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon has revealed billionaire owner Roman Abramovich wants the club to become champions of Europe in style. And Kenyon, who quit Manchester United to join the Blues, also reveals that coach Jose Mourinho is the closest thing he has seen to Sir Alex Ferguson. Chelsea begin their Champions League campaign against Norwegian side Rosenborg at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night and Kenyon insists the vision for the club is to win the competition twice in 10 years. Kenyon says on the new 'soccumentary' film about Chelsea, 'Blue Revolution': "We had a 10-year vision for the club. It was about building a team that was successful, not once but consistently. Over a 10-year period, you need two European Cups to be a world club. You have to dominate your domestic league. "We have to have an infrastructure to deal with that and people to deal with it. We will win the Champions League. It's just when is the question? We've got a squad, a structure, a belief and we've got quality. And I do believe the Champions League is not that far away." But it is his relationship with Abramovich which provides the biggest insight into the Russian's philosophy for the club. Kenyon added: "I think one of the key phrases I would say sums him up, when we talked early about 'What do you want Chelsea to do?' You know, 'What is success?', he said he wanted Chelsea 'to make a difference'. "I see him two, three times a week, depending on games. He's passionate about Chelsea. He's passionate about, how we are perceived, how we do things. He's stylish in that sense. "If we win, we want to win stylishly. Everyone buys into that. He's in it for the long term. And I think he's the best possible thing that could have happened to Chelsea. "When you meet him, most people would not recognise him or believe he is what he is. He's thoughtful, he's strong. He's been a very, very successful businessman so never underestimate him. "But he's very different to how anybody would portray him because nobody knows him. "There's loads of speculation that if we don't win, Jose gets fired. That's not the way we think. It's about building and it's about winning it in a style, in a manner, which I think is befitting of the best clubs in Europe. "It's building that dynasty and that's what Roman wants to be part of, Chelsea becoming part of Europe's dynasty." Kenyon quit United and joined Chelsea in 2003 and after a period of gardening leave set about making the club one of the best in Europe - by persuading Mourinho to succeed Claudio Ranieri as manager. Kenyon said: "I think after the first week, I didn't feel Ranieri was up to the job. Having been around a winner like Ferguson, Ranieri certainly didn't come into that class. So we embarked on looking for a new manager. Tough times. We came up with Jose Mourinho, and this guy was different. "A lot talk a good game, a lot have had success in different leagues, but wouldn't adapt. And we came up with Mourinho who was young and different. "This guy was different to other people we'd seen. And we'd seen some of the best names. But he was hungry. He thought differently. And right away, one thing that made him different, I saw he had some of the same qualities as Alex Ferguson. He's a winner and we were lucky enough to get him for our first full season, effectively. "And, you know, I think we've had some success since then. You've got to smile. The way he speaks, the way he looks, the way he philosophises, was all very new. "You've got to remember that English football had been dominated by Alex, a Scot, and (Arsene) Wenger, a Frenchman. And here we had our own special one who did it differently." Blue Revolution, a 'soccumentary' film about the last three years of Chelsea FC by EMI and Bombo Sports, is out on September 24 and will be available to buy at www.chelseamegastore.com. http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8668_2737116,00.html |

Banderas:Why do i think you are trying to pull one here? ![]() Come on, where did you learn to play mind games, Arsene does not engage in such or so i think ![]() |
Banderas Last season, we only fell short by a small margin. Semis in CL and out on penalties. 2nd in the EPL. A lot of our short comings last season was dependent on management feud and the refusal to buy adequate cover up. This season you notice that some one else not JM takes player's sale and acquisition decision. He still has to make do with what he has. Personally i think he's tired of the boardroom politics - he clearly does not know how to play it as evident in last season's charade. Very little managers have the audacity to take management on and these ones must have shown their worth or atleast have been in the club for years - SAF, Wenger. |
Banderas ROI is dependent on Management imposition Take spurs for example, how much did they spend this season, yet all management wants is to qualify for champs. @ManU fans Please take your unnecessary rants out of here Share your sports views nicely and leave it at that. We have no space for your sorts Thank you |
No matter how much you spend, you can only field 11 players and from the group that plays the most comes your engine room. |
Tommy you might want to reduce on the caps, to avoid gettin banned ![]() |

Mustay I quite agree with JM. We have no advantage with our seeding, its the same old story and we still have to work hard, i've seen simpler groups on paper but well we can only play well and come out on top. Banderas Every team has its engine room - key players, even you know this so your criticism is wholly unnecessary With injury to these players, the team's position is under threat. Do you remember your excuse for last season? Need i say more? |
They sure do ![]() |
Erm . . . I'm actually here dear ![]() |
Thinking what do i have to do for this messenger to work ![]() |
Ok here's ma 2 cents (more than what some of our female supporters are worth) So much ado over the weekend's tie with ManU . . . Its not a title decider. Since its an away game, i expect all the action to be in the first half save we are a goal down, which i doubt. The game plan will be simple for Chelsea - Do not loose. Deep inside ManU will be happy with that too. I see the midfield being the battle arena and i expect that we would crowd and put to death the inexistent fan-proclaimed maestro ManU is acclaimed to have. ![]() Our midfield will support the defensive flanks to put sniffle out the attacking threats for the sides. The middle is united's best chance to threaten. Chelsea should go for an early lead and after that long thrust balls. I hope and pray for a boring match and a 0-1 win to Chelsea. I'll be here to wipe some tears. |
A real pic is needed |
