There is just nothing to say anymore. I guess we just have to look forward to the remaining games and hope things turn out well. Arsenal and Man Utd may just be kind enough to throw away a couple of games, who knows ![]() The Champions league is still around though we have to exercise wishful thinking again. |
I'm very happy for Adams and for the Edo people. I schooled there and I believe he will be much better of than the thieving PDP machinery, if only he would be allowed to rule without intimidation. This is a victory of Justice and a victory for the Nigerian Democratic System. Thumbs up to the tribunal Judges |
GRANT SHRINKS IN THE SPOTLIGHT Avram Grant's tactical acumen - or lack of - has been thrust back into the spotlight after his ill-advised substitutions conspired to hand Tottenham the initiative as they fought back to salvage an unlikely 4-4 draw and put a severe dent into Chelski's title aspirations. Grant's suitability for the big occasions has been in debate ever since his first match in charge, a listless 2-0 defeat to Manchester United. Since then, the Israeli has failed to prosper in league matches against Arsenal and Liverpool, as well as the League Cup final when his tactics were widely regarded as culpable. Tactics often seem a matter of common sense but as the Chelski supporters trudged disconsolately out of White Hart Lane in the wake of Robbie Keane's late equaliser they must have been wondering where the sense was in Grant's tinkering. Once again, the common conclusion was that Grant had been outwitted by Tottenham counterpart Juande Ramos. Most critical of all was Grant's decision to respond to the introduction of Darren Bent by substituting Salomon Kalou for a third centre-half in the form of Alex. Fine in theory, botched in practice. 'That simply encouraged Tottenham and diminished the best aspect of Chelsea's display, their fluid menace,' notes the Guardian in its match report. A more damning analysis is on hand in the Independent: 'The Chelsea manager appeared to fail to notice that Dimitar Berbatov had dropped into midfield, which left Alex with no-one to mark.' That Alex then failed to clear the corner from which Tom Huddlestone brought the scores level at 3-3 only strengthened the belief that Grant had made a critical error. Grant's evening appeared to have been saved when Joe Cole struck moments later but, once again, his caution proved fatal. Off came Cole, on wandered Michael Ballack, and back to Tottenham went the momentum. Grant and Chelski may have been unlucky in the build-up to Keane's strike, with the ball bouncing off Ricardo Carvalho's back into the path of the Irishman, but it was telling that they were lucky to hang on for a point in the closing seconds. Afterwards, Grant offered an unusually animated defence of his record and his tactics, insistent that he was correct in changing Chelski's formation in response to Bent's introduction. "They played with three strikers, playing high ball and long balls, so I put Alex on as he's good at this. We wanted to play more in midfield, have one more in midfielder because we knew they would play direct balls. We wanted to pass the ball better. That's why we took him [Cole] off." Yet it would appear that not everybody in the Chelski dressing room saw matters in such clarity. After Keane's equaliser, Didier Drogba ran over to the touchline and, according to amateur lip readers, demanded to know: "What are we supposed to be doing?" Grant's answer - if he had one - is not known. Link |
See what a fan had to say . . . Are You Happy Now Mr Abramovich? Happy Now, Roman? Well Roman, you have your wish; we've had two fantastic 4-4 matches this season. Last nights match could/should have been 5-7 to Chelsea, however in the end but for Cudicini we almost lost all the points. When Jose was here all the Oppo fans would talk about the "s**t", "dull" football from an obnoxious, boorish manager but the thing that p***ed them off more was that we were winning!!!! Now we have a manager who is polite, good for PR, a nice man, very nice man. Unfortunately he is tactically inept and wasting a talented squad with poor formations and substitutions. He's a nice man who cannot inspire and drive the squad forward. Joe Cole showed what would have happened had he been on the field for the league cup final. Cole and Chimbonda should have gone from the field of play with ridiculous tackles. But at least it was very exciting. Grant is turning us into a replica of Spurs, exciting football, no consistency, but with the chance of a good cup run and a "pot" every 5 years. Is this really what you wanted for your £500 million? Admit you were wrong, bring in a manager with sufficient stature to manage a squad of this size or enjoy the exciting football, but forget about the trophies. Patrick Derham |
donchichi:I think Grant has had his more than his fair share of luck but he has screwed all his chances. - Carling Cup, Barnsley and now this. If any more cabali:Welcome to the club |

You'd think we had found the cure for aids? Who sponsors these research anyways? |
Today's game was disappointing and I could call a few players that were woeful but anyways we got three points and 3 points behind Arsenal with a game in hand - Spurs I believe. Whatever happens we need to remain in a position for the CL next season and I think that is very possible. I don't want to criticize AG but anyone noticed his sub decisions today? |
