That's all you know. Everyone has been heaping blame on the students. Alas! 99.9% did not know the background to this. What they did is wrong though, but our Governor is a porous gas tank who always seek smoke where there is no fire.
The Governor in his own "right senses" decided to raise the standard of WAEC results at all costs. Government stopped paying WAEC costs and fees since 2015, students and PTAs have been bearing the brunt- paying for forms and practicals aside other sundry fees.
As if this isn't enough, the Governor decided that Mock Exams should be strictly monitored, students without Credit in either of Mathematics or English alongside Pass in other subjects won't be allowed to sit for WAEC.

The students prepared well but across most schools, only about 25-30% of student who sat for the exam made it.

This led to an outcry-
1. Government isn't paying for WAEC fees again (raising the standard arbitrarily backfired), so why should government seek to reduce the number of students who sit for the exams when the students and parents will pay them.
2. Evidence suggests that government gave certain limits to the schools. This means that irrespective of the number of students in a school, the Principal must ensure that the number of students government want won't be surpassed even if 90% made it. In a bid to fulfill Governor's conditions and long leg insertions, school authorities started under marking students so as not to surpass quota government set for them. Furthermore, "long legs" entered the system, names of students who were eligible were removed through another round of "undermarkings" to fill in the slots.
3. The aftermath- Students and stakeholders discovered the rot and informed the government of the wide practice ongoing across all schools. Government haven't addressed this and the concerned students started boiling.

Finally, the students who "failed" the Mock Exams will have to repeat... This is the blow!
