This might be the end of Nigeria as we know it! |
The militant Islamist sect, Boko Haram has forced the authorities of the University of Maiduguri to close the institution down indefinitely. The university announced the indefinite suspension of all academic activities with effect from tomorrow, July 12, 2011 pending the improvement of the security situation in the state. A statement signed this afternoon by Ahmed Mohammed, Chief Information Officer of the University directed all students to vacate the campus tomorrow. Street Journal found pout that the decision was arrived at after an emergency meeting of the school administration. Investigations also revealed that a letter has been sent to the school by the Boko Haram sect and it might have prompted the school’s closure. The letter allegedly instructed the authorities to shut the institution or risk being attacked. The letter read in part “we give the school authorities till end of this month or before the beginning of Ramadan to release you all, if not something very bad will happen”. Though the authenticity of the letter cannot be verified, the University of Maiduguri authorities is not willing to take any chances. In a statement also being circulated around Maiduguri, the sect has promised more attacks. They also dared the State Security Service saying “the local people love us, they support us and the locals will never betray us because they believe in our cause, SSS we are not far away from you. If you can get us, come for us. The banning of motor cycles in Maiduguri and environs will not hinder or deter us.” http://thestreetjournal.org/2011/07/boko-haram-closes-university-of-maiduguri/

I met a young corp member who was bragging about how he influenced his posting to Lagos, with 150K, blah blah blah, Fine, you can save yourself. What about friends who cannot afford that? what about relatives who get posted to Boko Haram states? what about coursemates? neighbours nko? If individuals keep saving themselves, the evils confronting us will not go away! |
Until Nigerians learn to organise themselves and speak with one voice, they will never achieve anything! Where is the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS)? Where are the various student union presidents of the numerous universities? Where are all the parents of recent graduates? Where are the parents of graduates to be? Where is the minister for Youth and whatever? Nigerians cannot even petition their representatives in Abuja What about going through the children of Governors, senators, ministers, commissioners, Permanent secretaries, special advisers who are our friends and have access to decision makers There are millions of Nigerian youths on facebook and twitter yet they cannot come together with one voice Do you think the Tahir square revolution happened with each Egyptian demonstrating on his own? What I know is that this guy (Tsiga) no send you at all

Washington (CNN) -- The rebel government in control of the eastern part of Libya has made its first sale of oil from territory it controls, the State Department confirmed Wednesday. Tesoro, a U.S. oil refiner, entered into a deal May 25 with the Transitional National Council based in Benghazi, Libya for 1.2 million barrels of Libyan crude oil, the State Department said in a written statement. The shipment was scheduled to arrive aboard the MT Equator, a Liberian-flagged tanker, at the Single Point Mooring in Hawaii on Wednesday. The dollar value of the deal is not known. U.S. support for additional oil sales with the TNC will continue as a means to support additional revenue streams for the Libyan people, the statement said. The sale was made possible following an April announcement by the Office of Foreign Assets Control at the Treasury Department that established a new licensing policy with Libya. That action was taken to ease barriers to certain oil related transactions with the TNC, in place because of wider U.S. sanctions on Libya. The announcement came the same day Secretary of State Hillary Clinton arrived in the United Arab Emirates for a meeting with the Libya Contact Group, a coalition of various countries and international organizations that seek to build support for the TNC while preparing for Libya's future after the presumed end of Moammar Gadhafi's regime. This is the third meeting of the group. France, Italy and Qatar are among the small number of countries who have officially recognized the TNC as the legitimate government of Libya. While the United States has yet to take that step, President Barack Obama "has invited them to open an office in Washington," a senior administration official told reporters traveling with Clinton. "We are still considering it but there's no final decision as of right now," the official said of U.S. efforts to offer formal recognition to the TNC. Jeffrey Feltman, Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, traveled to Benghazi last month for two days. http://edition.cnn.com/2011/US/06/08/libya.rebels.oil/index.html |

There are similar cartoons of George W Bush, drawn as a monkey and nobody felt bad about them. When it comes to blacks, you never can tell the motives of people, some are really racist! |
Why are blacks too quick to accuse other races of racism? The editor of the Daily Lobo, the student newspaper of the University of New Mexico, issued an apology in response to criticism from students after it published this Hajo cartoon about the death of Osama bin Laden. Many of the protesters said they thought the cartoon resembled images used in the past to justify slavery. The cartoon parodies a famous scene from “The Lion King,” having Obama play the role of Rafiki, the baboon. Instead of holding up Simba to announce his birth, Obama is holding up the head of Osama bin Laden, announcing his death. It’s the same scene that Obama tweaked Donald Trump with as a joke at the White House correspondents dinner last week. “Regrettably, this cartoon offended the African-American community — along with many others — who interpreted Obama’s representation as racist,” write Chris Quintana, the editor of the Daily Lobo. “For this oversight, I sincerely apologize.” The difficulty of course is that many cartoonists drew George W. Bush as a monkey. The cartoonists all chose to draw Bush with big monkey ears and a huge, monkey-like upper lip, so drawing Bush as a monkey was a natural progression. Now the cartoonists are all drawing Obama with similar, big monkey ears and we’re starting to hear complaints from readers about how we draw Obama’s lips. Presidents also get shorter in cartoons if they don’t perform well, and chimps are short, forcing cartoonists to have to tiptoe through a racial-metaphor-minefield. http://blog.cagle.com/2011/05/obama-lion-king-cartoon-causes-cries-of-racism/ |

It is obvious that our leaders (southern governors, NYSC DG, Police senior officers) cannot be bothered about us, they have children studying abroad who will decide where they want to serve, if the deem it neccessary, Our parents are not organized to voice their true opinon of this NYSC thingy, We are busy working (graduates) and studying (students) to protest like the youths of Egypt. Since GEJ is on facebook, maybe if we start a page called; "GRADUATES AND STUDENTS AGAINST NYSC" and 1 million graduates and students like it, at least we'll get some attention ![]() |

David Fagin, a writer for AOL News, is suing Facebook for $1. No, that's not a typo — Fagin really is suing the social network for just one buck. And he's doing it because he doesn't know how else to get Facebook's attention. The first time David Fagin saw he was being blocked from sending friend requests on Facebook, as well as being labeled a spammer, he didn't think much of it. Then, when it happened again, and he was informed that he was in danger of having his account deleted, he tried to resolve it by reaching out to Facebook's support department — only to discover they don't have one. In this piece he explained that he was not only insulted by the fact that he'd been labeled as a spammer, but in awe of how a company the size of Facebook has a practically non-existent customer service department. There is no simple or convenient way for individuals to dispute account deletions or temporary bans and that — according to Fagin — is a big deal "Obviously suing the world's biggest company for a dollar won't hurt their pocketbook, but it might get the public debate going. And that's the main objective here," Fagin explained. http://digitallife.today.com/_news/2011/04/25/6526379-man-sues-facebook-for-1 |

el_cij:Why do people think the fact that one is a technocrat, well educated and has integrity means one wil not be interested in political office when offered on a platter of gold? Think AKUNYULI, SOLUDO, FEMI PEDRO By the way, there is little you can contribute as vice president. The Nigerian constitution does not state the assign any responsibility to the VP apart from those delegated to him by the president. The choice of VP is to win votes |
On the morning of December 17, a female municipal inspector named Faida Hamdy accosted Bouazizi. An altercation erupted during which Hamdy the inspector seized Bouazizi's fruit-weighing scales. Locals and Bouazizi's relatives also say the inspector slapped Bouazizi, an allegation CNN could not independently confirm. After the incident, the humiliated fruit vendor repeatedly tried and failed to get the attention of town officials. Then something snapped. He purchased fuel, doused himself with it, and lit a lethal flame outside the gates of the governorate building. Almost immediately, protests erupted in Sidi Bouzid and then quickly spread to other cities and towns across the country. The poor fruit vendor became a symbol of the anger and frustrations of Tunisians fed up with corruption and the authoritarian rule of President Zine el Abedine Ben Ali, who had been in power for 23 years. This cart is a symbol, it represents freedom. This overthrew the regime. --Ridha Bouazizi, uncle of Mohammed Under mounting pressure, Ben Ali visited the hospital bed of the young man from Sidi Bouzid. An eerie photo released by Ben Ali's press office dated December 28 showed the Tunisian leader standing next to Bouazizi. Only the young man's charred and blackened lips showed from underneath bandages which wrapped him from head to toe. The public display of sympathy was too little, far too late. On January 4, after more than two agonizing weeks in hospital, Bouazizi died from his horrific injuries. Before another two weeks were out, Ben Ali would flee the country. Bouazizi's self-immolation inspired copy-cat acts of protest in Mauritania, Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Egypt {but Nigeria refused to be inspired}. Meanwhile, Tunisia's startling revolution triggered unprecedented popular revolts that continue to ripple across the Arab world and beyond. http://edition.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/meast/03/22/tunisia.bouazizi.arab.unrest/index.html# Injustice is part of every day life in Nigeria, the Nigerian police force even though they are our friend, do much more than what the Tunisian official did to the poor guy yet We are yet to see the first Nigerian to set himself on fire outside AREA 'G' police station. Nigerians have one fruit of the spirit - LONG SUFFERING |
