Ndigbo, Fani-Kayode and 2015 presidency

By Jacob Nwaezeorah

There is no doubt that the only way the Igbos, apart from political accident, can produce the president in the country is by zoning. If not for the sudden demise of President Umaru Musa Yar Adua in office, and President Goodluck Jonathan’s contest of 2011 Presidency against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoning arrangement, PDP would have fielded a southeast presidential candidate, and a North Central running mate in this forthcoming presidential poll.

There is no argument about this because even the founding fathers of the party know this. That was why the then PDP national chairman, Chief Vincent Ogbulafor was very frank and courageous at the peak of the late president Yar Adua health saga when he publicly declared that PDP would abide by its presidency zoning arrangement.

But immediately Jonathan assumed office as president, the presidency and its hawks ousted Ogbulafor from office and roped him in, in alleged corrupt practice to silence him. Some prominent Igbo politicians in the PDP and their Northern counterparts which include Senator Ken Nnamani, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Senator Ben Obi, Prof. ABC Nwosu, Senator Uche Chukwumerije, Prof. Ango Abdullahi and others met severally then and even signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) that they would work together as a people to ensure that their political interest and aspiration would be met.

Indirectly, they were against Jonathan’s ambition to contest 2011 presidential poll knowing full well the long-term political implication of such on PDP zoning principles that has been driving the party’s success in the poll since 1999. But before one could bat an eyelid, the Igbo political leaders in the PDP have capitulated and sold out to the Jonathan’s ambition in 2011. Typical of an Igbo man who is always handy to be used to betray his people, many of the Igbo political leaders jumped into the Jonathan’s campaign train to the disappointment of their Northern counterparts. They were settled with contracts, appointments, and cash in exchange for their political opportunity and by the extension right to produce the presidency in 2015.

Ahead of the 2015 polls, they saw the political trend with the formation of All Progressives Congress (APC), the alignment between the North and the Southwest which has become the possible game change, they stuck with the Jonathan’s ambition even when it is obvious that Jonathan’s government in the last five years plus has failed the Igbos woefully.

In the last five years of Jonathan administration in Igbo Land, It has been more of political promises and less action. From the Second Niger Bridge, Enugu-Onitsha road, Enugu-Port Harcourt road, Onitsha port to the refusal to commission Prof. Barth Nnaji’s Geometric power plant in Aba that was ready for almost two years now The list is endless.

But some few Igbo treacherous leaders who are beneficiaries of the President Jonathan’s government and the massive corruption that has characterized it in the last five years have continued to shamelessly campaign for his re-election in Igbo land with nothing concrete for the Igbos.

They are busy spreading cheap propaganda and hate message against the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its presidential candidate, General Muhammed Buhari.

These categories of Igbo leaders include former governors, incumbent governors, serving ministers, former ministers, leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and several others. So much public funds have been made available to them by the Presidency, and they are busy justifying their loots by engaging in all kinds of hatchet political jobs. They are everywhere on the pages of newspaper, in the churches, communities, on the streets sponsoring pro-Jonathan rallies with looted public money, casting Buhari and APC.

They are deluding the people that Buhari will islamise Nigeria if he is elected President, but failed to tell them why President Jonathan has not Christianized the country in the last five years, if it is easy. They are telling them that Hausas are Boko Haram and not good people, but did not tell them why Boko Haram insurgents have been killing and displacing the Muslims in the last five years.

If truly Hausas are not good as these elite want us to believe, why have they been able co-habit peacefully in the Igbo land for decades? One hard truth these set of Igbo political mercenaries have refused to disclose to their people or wouldn’t want them to know is that the votes of the Southeast and South-South which is about 16.8 million cannot return Jonathan for second term, even if he gets all of them which is not possible. That the votes of these two geo-political zones are not up to the vote of the Northwest zone with 19,800 million votes.

In this their hatchet job, none of these so-called Igbo political leaders in the PDP is talking or negotiating anything better for the political future of the Southeast in power equation of the country. What matters most to them is the immediacy which is their private pockets, business interests, and that of their families, and relations. Others can go to hell. That is why majority of them have remained with the tag “Any Government In Power” (AGIP).

It is for this reason that some Nigerians such as the Director of Media and Publicity of the President Jonathan campaign organisation, Chief Femi-Fani-Kayode could summon courage to insult the sensibilities of the Igbos in the name of campaigning for President Jonathan by re-writing the civil war history.

Addressing journalists in Umuahia Abia State recently, Fani-Kayode, said there had been “mind boggling allegations” against Buhari over his roles in the massacre of Igbos in the ‘60s and should therefore not be allowed to continue to run from his shadows.

He said Buhari’s hands reek of the blood of innocent Igbo civilians massacred in cold blood. Hence, such atrocities could not qualify him as a presidential candidate but a candidate for the International Criminal Court (ICC) at The Hague.

Citing the horrendous massacre of Igbo civilians, including women and children in the North, and the killing of Igbo men and young boys at Asaba after the town was “liberated” by federal forces, Fani-Kayode insisted that Buhari’s name had always popped up in connection with those heinous crimes against humanity.

“It is important for us to remember that day because one of the allegations against Buhari that was to be put to him at the Oputa Panel was that he was among the division that took part in the massacre and that ordered those killings,” he said; adding that Buhari should speak up and explain if he was in Asaba on that fateful day and, if so, must apologise to Igbos and Nigerians in general before atoning for his sins.

It had been expected that some Igbo leaders would have call Fani-Kayode to order over the unguarded utterances especially concerning the Igbos and the civil war, but as we know the fear of incurring the Presidency’s wrath appears to be their handicaps because they lack integrity. If not, what did Fani-Kayode know about Igbos and the civil war experiences. If Buhari was serving in a military division where Igbos were killed during the civil war does that mean that Buhari killed them? Of what effects are such utterances on Igbos’ fortune in Jonathan presidency? Why such comments now?

Why was Fani-Kayode trying to re-write history of civil war for the Igbos, and when has he become the Spokesman of the Igbos or Ohanaeze? Lest we may forget that the worst thing that happened to the Igbos after the war was the issue of abandoned property in Rivers. Bayelsa was part of Rivers then and President Jonathan was from there.

So we can conveniently ask President Jonathan and his people to explain their roles in the abandoned property saga in Rivers. This is because most of the properties in the present Rivers and Bayelsa and by extension Cross River belong to Igbos before the war but could not recover them after the war. The old Rivers people seized everything Igbos worked for and refused to give them back anything after the war.

Whereas those in the North whom people like Fani- Kayode tagged enemies of the Igbos did not only protect Igbos’ property in the region; they returned them to the Igbos immediately after the civil war. People like the late Biafra warlord Chief Chukwuemeka Odimegwu Ojukwu reclaimed his father’s house in Kano after the war and willed it to one of her daughters at death. That is why it was easy for Igbos in the North to start life quickly after the war.

Before the Boko Haram insurgency, 80 per cent of Igbos are earning their living in the remote areas of the North where you hardly find an Ijaw man. This is because Ijaw men are not good at adventures. So who is trying to pitch Igbos against the North ahead of the rescheduled polls? When has Igbos become cheap products for sale to the highest bidder? Ahead of the rescheduled presidential poll, the political atmosphere is very clear.

The direction is change and the Igbos should not be behind because immediately the change occurs, these political hypocrites called Igbos leaders in the PDP that have been hoodwinking the Igbos with Greek gift from President Jonathan will be the first to shift base. They are not truly Igbo political leaders, but political harlots who are specialists in the elitist conspiracy, and divide and rule method to remain politically relevant. Igbos must shine their eyes.

He says that it seems ndi Awusa have caught on to the actual plan
That Buhari is just another yaradua
Used to garner votes but not expected to last
Let's see how this plays out
I am certain he will lose sha
Lolo, Biko do not dabble into what is way beyond your comprehension

If you are open-minded and very thorough.........Buhari Presidency in this election cycle is being DELIBERATELY given a Southern flavour this time around to enable his brand gain traction with Southerners which you just allude to that Ndi Yorubas are now so besotted to him

That is the logic and game plan ab initio

The North from the creation of Adam and Eve have been on a lockdown for Buhari such that if he contests 50 times Northerners will always vote for him

So the assignment was to sell him aggressively down South, a situation which has worked effectively

You think Northerners are foolish by not making statements or granting interviews eulogising Buhari or laying claim to him like the Niger Deltans are doing with Jonathan......It is because his candidature is a done deal amongst them

They have been told not to make any incendiary statements or remarks so as not to jeopardize Buhari's chances and standing with the Southerners

Wait till next Saturday when you'd hear them speak with thunderous voice by voting massively as they always do

And from your analysis Buhari happens to be the best APC has got.. My argument here is that an average Hausa/Fulani man can never shout Sai! Rochas or any other Igbo candidate but some blinded south Easterners are shouting Sai baba without knowing the meaning.. As opposition party, they should've gone for a candidate with little or no stains and do away with the likes of Buhari who is bent on ruling Nigeria again at all cost... He's just desperate to rule and not willing to serve..
Once again you are missing the point

Mind you i am a SWner but from what i have seen over the years, the northerners are the most politically matured amongst all the zones because they have sense of fairness.....They believe in Live and Lets Live, what they hate is Cheating

It was the same Northerners you seek to castigate who voted massively for MKO Abiola in several states of the North against Bashir Tofa who comes from Kano in 1993

Infact Northerners would not mind an Okorocha who was born up North and speak their language fluently

What Northerners hate is a Bigot who will come from a different zone and alienate himself from other part of the country as Jonathan have done since he became President

Northerners only feel short-changed by Jonathan's deceit due to the death of Yar'adua and felt one of them should have been allowed to finish up his tenure and they would not have minded a Southerner becoming a President since PDP is formed on the basis of Power Rotation between North and South.....so invariably Power would still have come back to the South sooner or later

Northerners dont wish to keep power in perpetuity contrary to what you believe

Mind you it was the same thing they are doing now that the Yorubas did when Abiola died in detention.... a situation which made the Yorubas to rallied forces against all the Military junta.....(while the Igbos stood aloof and acted unconcerned) while the June 12 debacle lasted

The aftermath of that power struggle was what culminated in an Obasanjo Presidency because if the Yorubas had not done all what they did,we could never have been considered to take the first shot at the Presidency in 1999 when two Yoruba sons Chief Olu Falae and Olusegun Obasanjo contested against each other while the Northerners queued behind then in both parties

In summary,Northerners can support someone from the SE in as much as the person will eventually not turn himself into a SEastern President in order to persecute other Geo-zones

You should have bought presidential primary forms for Kwakwanso, and Fashola if you love them so much. Wait and see how Jonathan get defeated next week. I don't think you saw confession video where Jonathan supporters claim they forced postponement of election because Jonathan was going to lose on February 14. His defeat was only postponed by six weeks.

So many individuals feel they have opinion on an online forum

Can Kwankwaso pull the kind of crowd Buhari is presently pulling even in the North not to talk of in the South.....moreso what would you say if APC hands its ticket to a recent decampee from PDP, a situation that will make people ridicule the party that APC lacks people who can fly its flag unless they decamp from PDP

Fashola is at best and at the moment only popular in the Southern part of the country, despite the fact that the Northern elites would not mind his candidature, the talakawas dont yet know him and the fact that OBJ a SWner just did 8years will not make a Fashola candidature fly

Moreso the man himself didnt pick a form from his party.....so it should not be party's headache if he decide to waive his constitutional right

In Okorocha's case,no serious party will give its ticket to an individual who has no vote-harvesting base.....as fantastic a man and brilliant product that he appears to be,his Igbo ethnic stock loath him rather than support him......so it will be suicidal for APC to give its ticket to Okorocha at this moment if he cant even deliver his SE zone not to talk of other regions

A Note On Pro-Jonathan Abusers Of Fr. Mbaka By C. Don Adinuba

Instead of seeking to establish the veracity, or otherwise, of the allegation, the Jonathan Igbo defenders have gone into a frenzy of hurling insults. Even Catholic ones among them have not displayed a different level of civility.

It is absolutely certain that most Igbo campaigners for outgoing President Goodluck Jonathan are so thoughtless that they have lost all forms of self-dignity. When a serious issue is raised about, for instance, the utter deception of Ndigbo by Jonathan through statements like that he would go into exile if by 2015 the 2nd Niger Bridge, they enthusiastically resort to uncultured utterances like “you are an i.diot”, “you are a buffoon”, etc.

These are utterances, which do not depict good breeding. Nor do they address the critical issues raised.

People of other ethnic groups paid heavily to defend Jonathan in the social media do not display the kind of uncultured behavior, which defines the conduct of these Igbo folks who probably receive far less than their counterparts from other parts of Nigeria in compensation for their role as rabie- infested attack dogs. in the last few days, these attack dogs have been abusing Fr Ejike Mbaka for alleging that the president and his wife are planning to kill him for revealing a message from the Holy Spirit that the president cannot be reelected in the forthcoming election. The priest also been explaining how he rejected a bribe from the president through the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu.

Instead of seeking to establish the veracity, or otherwise, of the allegation, the Jonathan Igbo defenders have gone into a frenzy of hurling insults. Even Catholic ones among them have not displayed a different level of civility. This is, in a way, not altogether surprising. When Festus Odimegwu joined issues with Jonathan, the same inelegant characters reacted violently, questioning his Igboness.

Yet, here is someone who has done more than any Igbo CEO of a multinational to develop Igboland. As the Nigerian Brewery CEO, Odimegwu cited at Ama on the outskirts of Enugu City the biggest NB plant in anywhere. He also led Nigerian Brewery’s acquisition of dead and dying breweries in Igboland like Life Brewery in Onitsha and Hercules Brewery in Arondizuogu, thereby enabling the owners to have good values for their investments. Odimegwu empowered such Igbo firms as Chisco Transport in a way no one, including Chidi Anyaegbu, founder of Chisco Transport, thought possible.

He also empowered Senator Anyim Pius Anyim, the current Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and many others. Not to be forgotten is that Odimegwu began the process of radically upgrading, expanding and modernizing Nigerian Brewery plants and facilities in Aba, Enugu and other parts of Igboland which cannot be stated in black and white here for strategic reasons. Still, some mercenary Igbo pen pushers have the temerity to question not just his judgment but also his Igboness simply because he stated what the whole world has known for long: Jonathan is an awfully incompetent president.

Before these hack writers turned their puerile heat on Odimegwu, a near genius based on his achievements-- including his unrivalled record in the history of NB-- they had written nasty things about Oby Ezekwesili, a former World Bank Vice President who has also been an eminently successful minister in Nigeria. Her offence? Oby had the temerity to lead the Bring Our Girls Home campaign which enjoyed the support of such people as Mitchell Obama.

When some 276 female students of Government Secondary School at Chibok in Borno State were kidnapped last April by Boko Hrama terrorists, Jonathan and his sidekicks like Alhaji Mujahadeen Asari Dokubo denied that the event ever took place. How could our commander in chief in charge of the army, air force, navy, police, Nigerian intelligence Agency and the Department of State Security live in such denial? For demanding that our commander in chief rise to the challenge of his office and comfort agonizing parents, relatives and friends of the missing girls, these shameless Igbo hack writers descended on Oby, a woman of great integrity.

This is not the end of the story, a story of pity and sadomasochism. When Charles Chukwuma Soludo, an extraordinarily talented economics professor and former Central Bank governor, did a brilliant x-ray of the development programmes of the two leading political parties, the same pro-Jonathan Igbo elements abused him thoroughly. It is self-evident that they do not possess the mental and ethical abilities to understand Soludo’s call to arms, made in the overriding public interest.

Worse, when erstwhile Vice President Alex Ekwueme granted an interview showing how Jonathan had been treating him with utter contempt , despite the fact that he practically formed the PDP, the unconscionable hack writers went viral, accusing him of being afflicted with senility. This is a man the whole nation calls “venerable” on account of his great role in the restoration of democracy. And as ex Education and Health Minister, Ihechukwu Madubuike, also a foremost literary critic, has stated times without number, no person has done as much as Dr Ekwueme during the time he was vice president from 1979 to 1983 to restore the Igbo to glory.

No person will be surprised if the lynching Internet Igbo mob soon turns its cudgels in the direction of Pat Utomi and other decent Igbo men and women who have the courage to say no to sacrilege, as Chinua Achebe would put it.

What exactly is the Igbo stake in the Jonathan presidency? Hardly can you find anyone able to articulate how Jonathan’s presidency is in the strategic interest of our people. Federal roads in the Southeast like Onitsha-Enugu, Enugu—Port Harcourt and Aba—Port Harcourt highways are worse than they were before Jonathan. No seaport is being built in Igboland for economic and strategic reasons. No gas pipeline pipelines to enable heavy to be built.

Innosons vehicles are being patronized by the federal Government. Federal expenditure in the Southeast is about one sixth of such expenditure in the North Central zone under Jonathan’s leadership. On February 1, 2015, the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) jerked up electricity tariff for industrial concerns by 24%, but in the Southeast the tariff increased by between 94% and 103%! Consequently, companies like Innosons became automatically threatened.

Innosons was compelled to pay N100m monthly upon spending N60m on diesel every month because of inefficient public power supply. Two days with the presidential vote less than two weeks away, the Federal Government announced a 50% cut in electricity tariff. Yet, this means that manufacturing companies in Igboland will pay much higher than their competitors in other parts of Nigeria.

As Chika Emelike, the founder of the Kotek manufacturing group which produces the immensely popular Tummy Tummy noodles in Newi, has been telling the nation, industries in the Southeast are now being pressured to move elsewhere. Has anyone heard Ohaneze utter a word about the ongoing large scale de-industrialization of Igboland?

It is a shame that the Igbo are not being taken seriously in Nigerian politics due to the lack of strategic thinking by Igbo prominent politicians who are more interested in creating paranoia among our people and stirring raw emotions against the North and Southwest in particular even when our people live in these parts than elsewhere.

The Igbo, under Jonathan’s presidency, are not heading the judiciary or the House of Representatives or the Senate. Nor is there any Igbo in the country’s security council. Raw emotions cannot take any people far in the 21st Century. Strategic thinking and building alliances will. We are now in a knowledge era.

Jonathan has just awarded a N9 billion pipeline security contract to ethnic militias in the Niger Delta and Southwest, just because of the impending presidential vote. The Movement for the Actualisation of Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) got peanuts.

Yet, MASSOB was the first ethnic militia to demonstrate in the streets in support of Jonathan.

Last week, Jonathan was in Delta to woo the people. Isoko, an ethnic minority led by Major Gen Paul Omu (retd), was given $200,000 but the bigger Igbo-speaking Anioma people of Delta North received a paltry $100,000.

The president, of course, take the Igbo for granted. Why not when on the eve of his visit to Onitsha last January 17 on reelection campaign his Igbo handlers took a photograph of a bridge nearing completion somewhere and claimed on the Internet that it is the mythical 2nd Niger Bridge!

There is something fundamentally wrong with Igbo fanatical supporters of Jonathan. History will certainly accord them a status far less dignifying than that of saboteurs. They have no truth in them. Nor do they possess a sense of the sacred. They are all engaged in an ogre of debasement of reason because of the filthy lucre they receive from inelegant fellows like Femi Fani-Kayode and other self-professed Igbo haters.

This madness will soon to come to an end.

Ex-governor, Presidency official fingered in misappropriation of PDP campaign funds

The former governor has been seen with President Goodluck Jonathan at several rallies and functions of recent. The former governor, who has an interest in a new generation bank where he was chairman at some point, attended a meeting with the President and a few others in January, where Jonathan ordered one of the prominent female ministers in his cabinet to release “some billions of naira to him” to oil the machinery of the campaign team, a source said. The source said the money was “cornered” from some “big” government contractors.

The strategy is what is called “decoy” in government circles, where money to finance rallies, campaigns and advertisements will come from private individuals and not government officials. The former governor has some people working with him to disburse the fund but he and a principal officer in the Presidency are alleged to have cornered a substantial part of the fund running into billions of naira.

The money was said to have been first lodged in the bank where the former governor has interest. The idea is to get commission on the fund and, if possible, “seize” or sit on the money till after election with the hope that once election is over, the money “expires”.

Part of the money was meant to settle some opinion leaders critical of President Jonathan in the six geopolitical zones.

But it was learnt this was yet to be done. It was gathered that this was why Jonathan himself had to come to the South West to personally “settle some people” because he does not trust any of his aides brokering negotiations for him as most of such money allegedly ended in private pockets.

The lid on the misappropriation of the fund was blown open by a governorship aspirant in one of the South West states, who was part of the team but felt shortchanged.

A livid Jonathan was said to have summoned a meeting where an outspoken Presidency official was shouted down by the President for being part of the scam. “He (the outspoken official) would have been fired immediately, but the President was advised not to do it now that election is just a few days away,” the source said.

Jonathan was said to have asked how the money was spent and “all sorts of names and companies were reeled out as having benefitted from the money. Full page advert money for newspapers was doubled and tripled just to cover their tracks.

“For example, they told the President that full page advert for Punch, ThisDay, Guardian is now N2 million ‘political special rate’, centrespread is N6 million and wrap around N70 million because of the election. “But some media people like a woman managing a magazine at the meeting knew they were lying but surprisingly kept sealed lips. Cost of television commercials was also increased.

“But the problem is that when the money spent was totalled, it was not even up to one quarter of what was released to the team. It is like all of them know that Jonathan may lose the election. So, they are just trying to take whatever they can take before election day.”

The embezzlement tale has also affected the media team as millions of naira have allegedly been stolen. The over N150 million said to have been budgeted for online advertisement remains unaccounted for as earlier reported.

The source added: “The major problem is that nobody can really discipline the affected officers because the sleaze cuts across all the teams in the campaign organisation – procurement, media, logistics, mobilisation, security, etc. They are all helping themselves.”

OP

God bless you for this STRAIGHT FROM THE HEART treatise

It captures the real issues happening amongst the deprived citizens of Nigeria.......

PDP/Jonathan are mortally jittery hence have been throwing everything including the kitchen sink into this election......they are using a combination of fear, threat, bribery and outright illegality to coerce and hoodwink everyone but as i have come to discover people are resolute about sending PDP packing

For the past 3 months,i have spoken with close to 400 people via many outlets and 90% of them are stubbornly locked on the CHANGE mantra of APC and there is nothing Jonathan can do about it

We must not lose our focus at this dying minute as this election will send a strong message to all politicians both in APC and PDP that Nigerians are now ever ready to deal with any party that seek to take them for granted

and other omo k'aro o ji res......please let this ultra charlatan OP bask in the nuances of his folly

I have read all his so called submissions from page 1 while being urged on by some other 'awon omo atohunrinwas' like Mastrofeddi et al

My belly churns at their folly and unbridled political illiteracy about the SW

Infact i wonder how stu.upid and silly is it for @Barcanista to be calling Ogun state for GEJ when Prof Osibanjo is an Omo Onile basing his postulations on the presence of Buruji Kashamu,OGD,OPC,Afenifere,Pastors or even a Traditional Ruler......what?

Chai,so Yorubas will leave a highly cerebral man in Osibanjo to vote for a GEJ/Sambo combo......a pair we have never been more ashamed of than now

If GEJ were that confident about his chances, why has been been gallivanting all over the SW like a cast out demon from the Heavens

If the elections were free and fair,GEJ will be so humiliated that a stroke might not be so far from him after the election is called

Thank God Atiku didnt win the APC ticket, the elections would have been called a walk-over in favour of PDP since the day the APC Primaries held

Buhari's pedigree and incorruptibility has made the elections to go to the wires, making the President to keep running helter-skelter in never before seen Insanity

Nobody takes him serious yet he narrowly lost to Buhari in APC presidential primaries.

If it makes you happy to lie to yourself by all means continue.
Some of you Jonathanians are a despicable lot

Buhari-3430 votes 57%

Kwankwaso-974 votes 16%

Atiku-954 votes 15.9%

So an Atiku who came Third behind a Kwankwaso is the one you claimed narrowly lost to Buhari?

Indeed you people are unintelligent
