Three Chilean Bishops have presented their resignations letters to Pope Francis over allegation of sexual misconduct.

Pope Francis accepted their resignations following sex abuse scandals, including Bishop Juan Barros of Osorno, the city at the centre of the uproar, the Telegraph UK reports.

All Chile’s 34 bishops had offered to resign en masse in May after attending a crisis meeting with the pope over allegations of a cover-up of sexual abuse in the South American nation.

The Pope accepted the resignation of the three bishops on Monday but it was not immediately clear if the move meant that he would not accept any of the other resignations.

Four persons have been arrested for allegedly murdering their friend for moneymaking rituals and are presently being interrogated at the homicide section of the State Criminal and Intelligence Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba.

According to Guardian, one of them Daniel, confessed that: “We are from Chibok in Maiduguri, Borno State. We are four that killed our friend, Isaiah James, for ritual purposes.

We wanted to do charms to excel in advance fee fraud, known as 419, but the native doctor who we consulted told us that he won’t do it because we are not educated.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State has boasted that it will win the July 14 gubernatorial election in the state despite President Muhammadu Buhari’s endorsement of the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

The party, in a statement issued by its publicity secretary, Mr Jackson Adebayo, expressed confidence of winning the polls “because of the emerging confusion within the ranks of the opposition party in Ekiti State”.

According to Adebayo, the party is “confident of winning the election even if President Mohammadu Buhari moves the whole garrison to help APC,” adding that, “we believe that the army would turn to spectators when they see how Ekiti people would react with their votes”.

Former President, Olusegun Obasanjo, has accused President Muhammadu Buhari of planning to frame him and consequently kill him.

Obasanjo in a statement by his media aide, Kehinde Akinyemi, on Friday said the Buhari-led administration intends to use fake documents and witnesses against him.

He stated that he has been informed that his name has been included in the government’s “watch-list”, and that the security of his life can no longer be guaranteed.

The former president explained that he would not have reacted to the information as provided by the top security sources, but for the fact that those who obliged him with the information, were not known for ‘frivolities and flippant talks.’

He added that the desperation of the present administration to blackmail him, could be linked to his State of the Nation Special Statement on January 23, 2018.

Imo state leadership of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, has accused Governor Rochas Okorocha and his All Progressives Congress, APC, making a caricature of the nation’s democracy and creating a mockery of democracy in Imo State.

According to the BBC, data of countries who search for abortion pills the most, was sourced from Google.

Google data shows how often exact phrases are searched about a topic.

“Abortion pills” is a top search phrase on abortion in all the countries analysed by the BBC.

The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Prince Uche Secondus has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to quit the stage now and advice the president to tender his regnation and go home for the good of Nigerai's.

Theodore Ekechi, Governor Rochas Okorocha’s former commissioner, who is now the spokesperson of the Imo State All Progressives Party, APC, stakeholders in the state has told the governor that the emergence of former Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole as the next national chairman of the party will not help to restore his (Okorocha’s) ascendancy in the party.

Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has urged Nigerians to disregard the allegation by the police linking him with the 5 April robbery in Offa, Kwara state.

Saraki, in a statement by his media adviser,Yusuph Olaniyonu, described the allegation as baseless and another ploy by the Police to implicate him by all means.

“Let it be known that there is no way I could have been associated with armed robbery against my people,” Saraki said.

Mr. Akin Osuntokun, former Political Adviser to President Olusegun Obasanjo has said President Muhammadu Buhari disappointed the intelligentsia who supported his candidacy in 2015.

He also said it is sad that having failed to meet expectations of the masses, the Buhari Presidency cannot be redeemed since it has continued to deny the reality of its failures.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said its victory in the Oyo State Assembly bye-election was an indication of the “inescapable fate” that will befall the All Progressives Congress, APC, in 2019.

PDP stated this while reacting to the victory of its candidate at the Oyo bye-election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), had on Saturday declared PDP’s candidate, Adebo Ogundoyin, winner of the bye-election to fill the vacant seat of Ibarapa East State constituency in the Oyo State House of Assembly.

A coalition of 55 youth organisations across the country under the auspices of the ‘Not Too Young to Run Movement’ has stated that the signing of the age reduction bill into law by President Muhammadu Buhari is not enough to ensure youth representation in political office.

The convener of the group, Mr. Samson Itodo, made this known at a press conference in Abuja on Friday.

He pointed out that internal party democracy, a reduction in cost of politics, affirmative actions for youths as well as credible and peaceful elections are necessary to ensure the emergence of youths as candidates for political offices.

The University of Lagos, UNILAG, has reacted to viral online report about one of its lecturers sexually harassing female students of the institution.

A female student of the school had yesterday, in a social media post, claimed that the lecturer has been in the act of molesting female students.

She further revealed that the said lecturer is a professor in the department of English language, in the Faculty of Arts.

The lawmaker representing Kogi West, senator Dino Melaye Thursday took exceptions to the uncomplimentary remarks credited to President Muhammadu Buhari against the National Assembly and demanded for an apology.

It would be recalled that Buhari last week when the leadership of one of his campaign organisations led by the comptroller-General of customs, Hameed Ali, was in Aso Villa for a solidarity visit queried the importance of the National Assembly, saying many lawmakers had even spent more than 10 years without achieving anything.

By this statement, Melaye said it was uncomplimentary and derogatory to the reputation of the hallowed chambers and functions of the parliament particularly under a democratic dispensation.

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Ibrahim Idris says President Muhammadu Buhari has ordered him to redouble his efforts towards tackling the killings in Nigeria.

Two people died on Tuesday evening while four others sustained injuries when two vehicles collided on Kano-Gwarzo road, an official of Kano State Fire Service said on Wednesday.

Alhaji Saidu Mohammed, spokesman of the fire service told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano that the accident occurred at about 05:35pm.


“We received a distress call from one Malam Wada Alhassan at about 05:35pm that there was an accident on Gwarzo Road.

The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, has alleged that the killings in the country were part of moves to declare Sharia across Nigeria as planned by the leader of Boko Haram sect, Abubakar Shekau.

The President of CAN, Rev. Samson Ayokunle stated this while reacting to the killings in Benue and Taraba States.

Speaking with The Sun, Ayokunle also berated security agencies for failing to protect Nigerians against the attacks.

The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Ekiti State has alleged that the President Muhammadu Buhari-led All Progressives Congress government was plotting to fund the July 14 governorship election in the state with part of the Abacha loot and funds from the country’s crude oil sales.

The party said the 77-man campaign committee set up by the APC on the state’s governorship election “will make the PDP victory in the July 14 election sweeter and memorable.”

Former President Goodluck Jonathan says it is a thing of shame that Nigeria is now being used as a negative example in the international community.

He cited recent instances when the Ghanaian President, Nana Akufo-Addo, mocked the poor state of security in Nigeria and the naira’s weakening status.

Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has backed the call on President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to probe former President Olusegun Obasanjo over the alleged $16billion power project scandal.

ACF said it would send a signal to other public office holders on the need to manage the nation’s resources properly.

National Publicity Secretary of ACF, Alhaji Muhammad Ibrahim Biu, in an interview with The Nation, said it was worrisome that those that were responsible for the failure of the power project, were not brought to justice despite the previous probe by the National Assembly.

An Indian woman who was bitten by a snake in her sleep and unknowingly breastfed poisoned milk to her daughter has died along with the child, police said Friday.

The 35-year-old woman from Uttar Pradesh state did not realise she had been bitten when she woke and breastfed her daughter.

The three-year-old girl and the mother fell ill on Thursday and both died before they could reach hospital, police inspector Vijay Singh told AFP.

A judge has ordered a 30-year-old man in New York state to move out of his parents’ house, after a short legal battle.

During the hearing on Tuesday, state supreme court justice Donald Greenwood tried to convince Michael Rotondo, who reportedly moved back home eight years ago, to leave the family home in Camillus, near Syracuse, of his own accord. But Rotondo, who represented himself in court, argued that he was entitled to six more months of living with his family.
