You got the gist my brother. A case of I'm being persecuted because of the clothes I wear. See Nigerian politicians and these are the people we look up to to build our nation.

Op is a foolish man
How can he claim that Igbo nation rejected Buhari in 2003 and 2007 when it is generally known that the votes of the masses never counted in those occasions. Can it also be claimed that Igbo nation rejected Ojukwu in 2003 when he could not win any Igbo state that year? Can he also claim that Anambrarians rejected Peter Obi that year when Chris Ngige was declared winner?
Igbo nation never hated Buhari prior to 2011. Post 2011 election cost Buhari his support from East and not just Igbo nation. The subsequent killings and the feeling that increased Boko haram attacks which he initially supported to frustrate GEJ made him to lose his support from East as a whole.
LOL at the bolded. The same logic always. Tell a lie, believe the lie and tell it to your children. The cycle continues. grin

TippyTop:
So when the SW said they were marginalised under GEJ it was politics of hate?
SW voted massively for GEJ and expected to be carried along. He disappointed. They didn't constitute themselves as nuisance to his government, rather they re-strategised. They disappointed him by voting for another candidate. Way to go.
[b]When northern governors declared Sharia under Obj it was politics of hate?[/b
The northern governors voted massively for Obj and that was why he allowed them to have their ways. He was very sure of their pranks and that was why he called it a "political shariah" that would eventually fade out. What happened? Eventually, political shariah and its supporters faded out.
When Niger deltans insist on restruturing the country it is politics of hate?
No, it isn't politics of hate. They got Amnesty Programme, OMPADEC, Niger Delta Ministry, NDDC, 13% derivation, among others. The problem here is that most of the monies appropriated for developments found their ways into some crook pockets without commensurate developments in the land. So, there is bound to be a repeat of the struggle all over again.

Seems we're all haters then if we can't speak our minds in fear of being labelled "hater"
When you claim others hate you, the question is what is it that you're doing to make yourself an object of hate? Some thinking my brother.
PoliticsPresident Buhari, Ndigbo And The Politics Of Hate - Chris Chukwubuzor Azuka by sparrowkid(op): 12:45pm On Jun 26, 2016
The seeming cold war between the president and some Igbo leaders has refused to die down one year after the election that brought Mr. Buhari to power. Although, while the president has since moved on with the business of governing Nigeria, these Igbo leaders are yet to find the humility and discipline to accept the fact that President Buhari is no longer an opposition candidate, but now the leader of this nation and to engage him constructively for the good of their people.

A lot has been said about President Muhammadu Buhari’s hatred for Ndigbo and how he is fighting the Igbo nation, denying her strategic appointments in his government. Some Igbo leaders are even insinuating that the president is actually the one creating the resurgence of the Biafran agitation through his politics of hate.

But does President Buhari really hate Ndigbo and seek to diminish the Igbo nation? On the other hand, do the Igbos actually have any love for Mr. Buhari himself? Are they trying to make things any easier for the president and themselves? If President Buhari does hate the Igbo people, what exactly are their sins against him? Today, an average Igbo man is being made to believe that the president is the problem of Ndigbo, and should therefore be hated by all. They have been made to believe that any Igbo man who supports Mr. Buhari must be a saboteur who wants to remain perpetually enslaved to the Hausa/Fulani oligarchy.

In 2003, President Buhari, the then presidential flag bearer of APP, picked a full blooded Igbo son, Senator Chuba Okadigbo, as his running mate for that year’s presidential election. Again, in 2007, he picked Chief Edwin Umezoke as his running mate, having won the presidential ticket of ANPP for that year’s presidential election too. On both occasions, the Igbo nation rejected Gen. Muhammadu Buhari and her sons who ran alongside him at the polls. If Buhari hates Ndigbo, would he have chosen Igbo people as his running mates on two occasions – persons who had the potentials to succeed him if he had won power on any of the attempts?

In 2015, however, Mr. Muhammadu Buhari’s relationship with Ndigbo reached a new low as the Igbo nation bared its fangs of hate and descended into the politics of hate, bitterness, isolation and greed. What Mr. Buhari suffered in the hands of Ndigbo and others was enough to break him down, mentally and emotionally. I must hasten to add that there is absolutely nothing undemocratic in the overwhelming majority of Ndigbo not voting for President Buhari as they have done on a number of other occasions. But let’s tell ourselves the truth, the Igbo nation made it a personal matter with her belligerent posture against President Buhari’s candidature.

For instance, Igbo leaders were at the forefront of the widespread agitations against Mr. Muhammadu Buhari and his ambition to become Nigeria’s president. Again, among all those who went to court to stop his candidacy, a majority of them were Igbos. Igbo leaders pulled their hate train, moving from one place to another demonising Gen. Buhari as the greatest enemy of Ndigbo, while extolling Mr. Goodluck Jonathan as the greatest lover of the Igbos. Even APGA, the so-called Igbo party also went to court to stop Buhari’s candidacy, through the efforts of a former senator from Anambra North. This was in addition to APGA being the first political party, even before the PDP, to endorse President Jonathan’s fruitless second term ambition.

But why do the Igbo leaders and, as a matter of fact, some other ethnic leaders hate President Buhari with such intensity? The answer is corruption. The very reason they hate President Buhari is also the reason they loved President Jonathan. These greedy leaders have special inclinations for corrupt, weak and hopelessly profligate leaders like ex President Jonathan. Their aversion for a strong, prudent and accountable leadership is legendary – and in spite of his shortcomings, that is what President Buhari vehemently represents.

Today, President Buhari, the celebrated Igbo hater, has not only giving the Igbos important appointments, but he is set to do for them what their inglorious messiah, ex-President Jonathan could not do in six years, capturing in his very first budget, the Second Niger Bridge, the Onitsha-Enugu Expressway and other South-East roads, which became deathtraps under Jonathan’s six year rule. And more are coming – projects he intends to deliver according to schedules and specifications.

In one of my reflections, I had wondered why APGA, Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other Igbo groups were so quick to endorse President Jonathan for a second term mandate. The answer is greed. Mr Jonathan never inspired anyone, and if he ever loved Ndigbo, he would not have left the Igbo land in a worst state than he met it.

PoliticsRe: Bunmi Falana, The Zenith Bank Staff Who Knelt Down Is Fayose's Boy - Abimbola O by sparrowkid:
I think it will be appropriate to cite an example in order to buttress the fact that the banks can do anything to protect their businesses. We had an experience in 2014 when a friend of mine went to withdraw from a bank's ATM and among the naira notes, there was a fake N1000 note. Unfortunately for my guy, the okada that carried him went to a filling station to change the money. It was at the filling station that they discovered that the N1000 was actually a fake one. But for the okada man who saw him when he went to withdraw the money, my friend could have been mobbed at that station. He begged them to give him back the money so that he could complain to the bank. They obliged after so much begging.

On getting to the bank, the guy who was responsible for loading the ATM was so rude and rudderless to even the disappointment of the branch manager. One could deduce that the guy had enough backing because he was even calling bluff of the branch manager to stop insulting my friend. My friend left the bank in anger. When he told me what happened, I just searched the internet to get the format of their email address. I then went to their websites to get the list of their management staff. I copied from the managing director, all executive directors, regional directors, their complaint officers, cbn complaints desk, consumers proctection council complaint desk. I let them know why my friend could have been killed if not for the intervention of the okada rider.

Believe me sincerely, the kind of calls my friend got on that day was out of this world. The incident happened in a state in the SW, but from Kaduna, Sokoto, Abuja, Enugu, Lagos, Ibadan, Abeokuta, everywhere. Almost every oga was apologizing to my friend. Within two hours, the branch manager was at my friend's place, prostrating for him (seriously without exaggeration) to save his job. By 2pm that day, the executive director in charge of South West was even at my friend's place. You have to see us on that day. We were just forming voltron, arguing that we were taking the matter to court (when we didn't even have enough money to chop by that time). We deliberately allowed the big man to wait for almost 30minutes before we could grant him audience. Don't blame us, we wanted to know whether "something" could come out of it. grin But na only apology the man bring, chai come see disappointment. Since that day, I don't take any bulls**t from any bank officers, once you misbehave, na to just complain to your boss. Try it and see, dem go dey beg you like say dem put bullet for their head.

So, it is possible that those guys are actually bank staff and there to protect their jobs. They could do anything to protect their "ikoko obe". grin grin

"He who forgets the past condemns himself to not knowing the present and the future." - Frantz Fanon

When pictures like these are shown, one is reminded of the prosperity and progress made by one's forebears. Our fathers were very enterprising and highly civilized that as soon as the galvanized roofing sheet was introduced in the country then, majority if not all of them could afford it. It is a thing of pride for us to know that our fathers were able to afford latest technology in roofing as far back as almost 200years ago. These are our heritage, our pride something that would inspire us the new generations to be as enterprising and prosperous like our forbears. These places can only be compared with great cities of the world as at that time.

On the contrary, we are not ashamed to show them to the world. We are proud of them because they kind of left a legacy for us. The question is: can the op show us a part of his place or region that is as old as these places? "Ajisebi Oyo la n ri, Oyo kii se bi baba eni kan".

Oje, Yemetu, Beere, Oja Oba, Idi Arere, etc that are shown in the pictures were centres of commerce and industry in those days in Ibadan even as of now. I know most of you are kids, you should ask your parents the kinds of roofing sheets they were using almost 200 years ago. We have cities in Yorubaland that are over 500years old. One thing that is indisputable is that when people were living in those 'brown roofs', some other people were still living in huts with thatched roofs and in caves.

Alumaco or aluminium roofing technology was introduced not up to 3 decades ago. Galvanized zinc roofing sheet was the order of the order before the present technology. Even though we have moved on from these places by creating our own great cities, we are proud of them and we can never forget them. The ones we are building today, would become relics tomorrow.

Pls nairalanders, can some tell me why buhari is wearing a white shirt while shaking buhari and an agbada while shaking awujale.are u sure both pictures were taken same day,or another lie from APC media worriors?. Where is fayose the lie dictator
Let me assist you a little bit because I know some people's brains are still pentium 1 with 16MB RAM. Going by the pictures, Tinubu went to visit President Buhari at home. In the second pic, President Buhari saw him off at his door. Whereas in the last pic, if you don't need ENT like President Buhari for your own eyes, you would see that PMB actually went to see Oba Awujale and the latter saw him off at the door. That accounted for why the change of clothes.

Your case simply shows that APC is not actually disseminating lies, the main problem here is that majority of your likes do not have the capacity to process the information being passed across.

10 Things About The New Naira

Given the above, what will the future be like? In no particular order

1. This is good for governors and states. For April, the 3 tiers of government shared a total of N281.5bn. We know that this money was changed from dollars at around N199 so working backwards, this gives us $1.4bn that was available to share (some of the money is VAT which is in naira but let’s keep it simple). States and LGs got N144.2bn of that money or $725m if we work back to dollars. Now we know that the ‘real’ rate was around N350 at the time. But let’s say the interbank market settles at N310 when it opens, this means that the states and LGs would have gotten N225bn instead of N144.2bn they got. This is a big difference given that these states have been running around begging for money.
2. That said, a lot of these states are owing money in foreign currency for the foreign loans they have taken. To repay those loans, they have been converting their naira at the official N199 rate. Now they will also have to pay the interbank rate of N310 to buy their dollars. A state that has a lot of foreign currency loans will not see much of a difference from the new rate. But if you notice that your governor starts ‘carrying shoulder’ it might mean that your state doesn't have too many foreign loans and is now ‘liquid’ as Nigerians like to say.
3. Unless you have not been reading this blog closely, you must have noticed that Alhaji Putin is my guy. As I’ve been saying, he has been getting roughly $15m per week at N199 for months now. That party is now over. He too will now be buying at the interbank rate like everyone else and there will no longer be a special rate. Glory be. At the post-MPC press conference where CBN trailed the new ‘flexible’ policy, Godwin Emefiele hinted that there would be a ‘critical’ rate for ‘critical’ people. No mention was made of that today. Thank God.
4. What of the federal budget? This will help the FG in the way it helps states above. If nothing else, it will be easier for it to pay salaries now and spend money on anything else that does not require imports. Last week, the government announced the Home Grown School Feeding Programme. An initial N93bn has been budgeted for the programme. Given that this is a priority programme for the government and most of the costs are in naira (if not all), there should be more funds available for the government to pursue programmes like these.
5. Petrol nko? When the N145 price was announced last month, it was said to have been calculated using a rate of N285 to $1. This is Nigeria’s biggest forex expense so it will be sensitive to whatever the exchange rate is. So what if the interbank rate goes above that? It’s an interesting question. But, until foreign investors return from their holding formation outside Nigeria, CBN will still be the biggest source of dollars in the market. I suspect (this is just my guess) that the CBN will keep one eye on the fuel price when selling its dollars to those FXPD creatures. At any rate, a few days ago, the petrol marketers cabal were wailing in the papers that petrol demand has dropped by 40%. There is only so much Nigerians can take so any further price increase will be met by reduced demand by Nigerians. I imagine that everyone is now watching their petrol usage more closely. Very good. The business of smuggling petrol across the border to Cameroun and Benin Republic is also now dead as the dodo bird. As long as the government holds its nerves and minds its business, Nigerians should be able to deal with the marketers themselves.
6. Quite a number of Nigerian companies (mostly oil and gas) borrowed from Nigerian banks in foreign currency. It is one thing to borrow money when oil is $100/barrel, it is quite another thing to repay that same money when oil is $50/barrel. At the end of 2015, CBN said the total amount of bad loans in the banking system — where the borrower is not making repayments — was N650bn. A few days ago, CBN released updated figures up to the end of April 2016. The bad loans in the system are now a shocking N1.38trn. If CBN is openly confessing to N1.38trn, do you think the actual number is higher or lower? Don't forget that banks have already written off some of these bad loans. First Bank reported an 82% drop in profits for 2015 mainly because it had to put N119bn worth of loans on standby to go bad. It has promised to sack 1,000 workers to balance the books. Some of these bank debtors with foreign currency loans were still managing to get dollars at N199. Now that they will have to pay market rate, the bad loans in the system can only rise. Which means more job losses at banks. You have to feel sorry for people who will lose their jobs. But some of these banks need to learn a hard lesson and there is no other way to do it than this way.
7. And inflation? Latest numbers from the Nigerian Stats agency shows that inflation is running at 15.6%. If the exchange rate goes up officially, surely this can only mean prices of things will go up further stoking inflation right? Well, it’s not that straightforward. The truth is that hardly anyone was getting dollars at the N199 rate anyway. Most imported goods are already priced at the black market rate. My hunch is that the dollar will settle at a lower rate than it currently is so this new rate might even lead to slightly lower prices. Nigeria is also a poor country so you can’t keep increasing prices and expect people to take it. At some point, people will find alternatives or just eliminate that demand. I will stick my neck out and say inflation will go down from here.
8. There is a huge backlog of forex demand that remains unmet. This amount has been growing for a while now and some say it is now between $6bn — $9bn. The most ‘popular’ group in this constituency are the foreign airlines who now have around $600m trapped in Nigeria. Once the market opens next week, it will be like opening prison doors for prisoners — these guys will inundate the market and increase pressure on the naira. Unless CBN has some special plan to meet this likely demand head on (sauces tell me they have), the exchange rate may spike before it settles later. Keep calm. Once the mess is cleared, things should settle down.
9. Even though CBN will be in VIP section selling dollars to the FXPD creatures, from time to time, it will wander out into the main club and sell dollars if it feels the rate is doing wan kain. What is a Nigerian forex policy without a new acronym? We now have something the CBN calls Secondary Market Intervention Sales (SMIS). That is, it will sell dollars directly to the main market where FXPDs and Non-FXPDs trade just to keep things stable.
10. If you need dollars, just go to your bank. If you want PTA or BTA or whatever you call it, just go there with your ticket and ask for it. If you need to pay school fees, just fill whatever form you need to fill. Those 41 items are still banned so if you want to import them, you will need to buy from the black market. But the days of dollar scarcity where you wanted PTA and couldn’t get it should be over. Whatever the supply of dollars is, the price will now reflect it. You will also see that export proceeds will ‘shoot up’. Those exporters who have been avoiding bringing back their export proceeds will now do so. So those export proceeds that have supposedly been collapsing, according to CBN, will be mysteriously revived now.

I’m Warning You

I’ve been telling a friend that President Buhari’s second coming to power was for him to learn economics and how markets work. One by one his shibboleths are tumbling down. Fuel subsidy has been forced out of his hands and now his beloved N199 to $1 has been taken away from him, too. The sad part is that this his education is quite expensive and Nigerians are the ones footing the bill.

We have now had 1 year of experiencing what government can do when it claims to have powers to control prices. We have seen what its like when one person is picking and choosing who should get dollars and who should not. President Buhari travelled the world speaking to the price of oil to rise. The price ignored him. Some of us ‘market fundamentalists’ have been calling for the government to let markets do their magic not because markets are perfect but because they are the best system we have to allocate resources fairly.

But some people never learn. So if and when exchange rates start to spike, you will start hearing these people making noise asking for government to come and ‘intervene’ to ‘control’ or keep market forces ‘in check’. The government has no such power and as such, it can only make a mess of things. You have my permission to issue such people a good and proper slap when they start calling on government. Let the slap ring and leave your hand on their face for good effect. Nigeria is marching towards a serious market economy. Anyone who looks back will turn to salt.

There are also those people who have turned twitter and facebook into a ‘live’ bureau de change — all they do is ask for the exchange rate everyday. You also have my permission to slap these people if they continue talking about the exchange rate everyday. I am not in Nigeria or else I would have done it myself. All those lies of ‘someone I know just changed money outside Iga Iduganran in Lagos for N400 to $1’ need to stop. You should now be able to see rates on your bank’s website or FMDQ’s website. Anyone who is worried about what the rate will be on 29th of August, is free to invest in a derivative to put their mind at rest.

All of this means that the government can now spend its time worrying about other problems aside the fx rate. Buhari’s ear problems should subside as well. You too have now been freed from spending your whole day watching exchange rates. You’re not a bureau de change. Face your work. What will be the price of the dollar next week when the market opens? I don’t know. The price will be the price. It will be what the market says it is.

The Nigerian economy is still in a terrible shape. This government has done real damage with their experiments in the last 1 year. But, at all at all na him bad pass as Uthman Dan Fodio famously said. Maybe the worst is now over (God, please don’t let this country make me eat my words, again).

Even if you are on a diet or just watching your weight closely, tonight, I give you permission to indulge in a small bit of Hope Ice Cream.

FF

P.S To the people who put this together for the CBN and have been fighting to have a better market system for a long time, you have done well. Thank you.

The Price Club: The New Nigerian Naira

I feel like the last year has been one maddeningly long and unending conversation about the exchange rate of the Nigerian Naira. In all that time, I always found it difficult to argue for a full float of the naira. That’s what I wanted but it felt like asking for too much. So devaluation seemed like a halfway house that would ease things a bit. The main thing being that the fixed rate of N199 to $1 was completely ridiculous and untenable.

But look at God.

Today, the CBN went all the way to a float. To be clear, nobody ever floats their currency willingly — you are always forced into it. An example was ‘Black Wednesday’ which forced the UK to float the Pound in 1992. It was painful and embarrassing but you won't find anyone who wants to go back to pre-1992 here anymore.

So what did CBN just do? Let’s get into the meat of the matter based on what was in their circular.

Inter-Bank Foreign Exchange Club

Let’s be honest here — this is nothing new in particular. We’ve had Inter-Bank markets before but the CBN shut it down last year when it didn't like the rates the market was giving it. But given that the last year has been so abnormal, the mere presence of something so normal…my goodness. It feels like clean fresh air after being locked inside a damp house for years.

The gist of the ‘new’ market is pretty straightforward — it’s a market where people can buy and sell dollars. Think of it as a pool. All the forex coming into the country will be dumped into that pool. From there, those who want to buy will buy at whatever the price is. Before you put your forex in the pool, you will get a price from people who are waiting to buy it.

Previously the CBN only allowed banks to buy and sell forex at N197.50 and N199 respectively. Nobody was allowed to trade outside of these prices (at least not legally). This meant that a lot of the people who would normally have poured their money into the pool decided not to do so. As such, CBN was the only one filling the pool from time to time.

That’s gone now. First of all, the spread between buying and selling will be determined by the market (Point 2.1.4). Feel free to charge a N4 spread to win market share if others are charging a N5 spread. What will be the new spread? We shall see when the market kicks off next week.

Last time I was in Nigeria, I wrote about how I made a card payment and the money got converted at N288 to £1 when I had gotten N450 to £1 the same day at the airport. This was because the banks were only allowed to buy £s at the official rate (although they found ways to sell it at the unofficial rate). That too is gone now. If you visit Nigeria from abroad and you use your card, you will get a market rate i.e. the rate at the interbank determined by the market. Same goes for Western Union. I doubt anyone has been sending money to Nigeria using Western Union and MoneyGram lately. Now you can — your money will be converted to naira at the interbank rate.

This is all good stuff.

The VIP Section

The CBN has introduced something ‘new’ to the market, however. A new creature to be known as Foreign Exchange Primary Dealer (FXPD) has been created. CBN released a separate set of guidelines for these creatures.

In the club, these FXPDs are the guys who will sit in the VIP section with CBN. If forex is champagne, these creatures will be served first before anybody else. But don’t panic, this is a good thing.

These guys are not going to be dealing in small small stuff. Minimum is $10m to sit in this club. That is, to buy dollars from the CBN, they will have to quote in batches of $10m. But remember CBN is no longer going to be the sole source of dollars — so these creatures will also get to buy from oil companies and exporters.

What will they do with all that money? From the FXPDs, the money will flow downwards till it gets to you or anyone else who needs it. Not every bank will qualify for this FXPD creature status — the VIP section can only take so many people. So banks who are not FXPDs will get to buy from FXPDs.

What of Bureau De Change? They are not even allowed in the club talk less of sitting in the VIP section. Having said that, I’m told that people sometimes jump the fence to enter clubs in Lagos. Or stand outside the gate hoping to be let inside at some point. Ultimately, they will get money but only after it has flowed down from CBN to FXPDs to Non-FXPDs. Don’t cry for them — they will be ok.

These FXPD creatures can be kicked out of the VIP section by the CBN if they misbehave. I imagine no one wants to leave the VIP section to mingle with the sweaty masses on the crowded floor so hopefully, they behave. But there will always be that one fly who is not satisfied just watching the dead body being lowered into the grave…

Hedging As A Product

How do people in countries with a floating currency cope with wild swings? I mean, if you leave the currency to market forces, in theory, you can just wake up one morning and the currency has dropped by 50% ke? In theory, yes, in practice, no.

When a currency moves about wildly, that is a risk. This risk brings up different opportunities for risk management products. Imagine you’re a guy who needs to order a container from America in November this year. You know the exchange rate today but you don't know what it will be in November. You can leave it in God’s hands and take whatever the rate is in November when you need to pay.

But maybe the rate is N350 to $1 today and you think it will rise to N400 to $1 by November when you need it. To avoid that, you buy a hedge for N350 to $1 to pay out on the day you need it in November. This service will not be free —you will have to pay a fee for it. But it guarantees that on the day you need the dollars in November, you will get it at N350 to $1. Remember that you can’t see the future (well, maybe you have ‘washed’ your eyes sha) so on the appointed day in November, it might be that the dollar is actually N320. Sorry. You still have to pay the N350 you agreed to and you have lost money. But it might also be N400 on the day as you guessed. More power to you — you have saved money.

The risk in you people’s country is too much. Your container can be on the high sea on the way to Nigeria minding its business when some attention seeking militant decides to blow a pipeline just for fun. You have not finished paying for the goods when this happens. The market hears it and decides that this means that oil income will drop in the next few months, as such the price of the dollar goes up by 10%. Now, something that does not concern you at all will cost you 10% more.

All the grammar in the screenshot above is describing products that will protect against such unforeseen risks. For foreign investors, this will be a good thing. They know you can’t really trust Nigerian policymakers not to misbehave from time to time so products can be designed to reduce the kind of wild swings that cause painful losses.

I only ever check the £ to $ rate when I am about to make a trip to America. Beyond that, I don’t really care even though I have some $ exposure in some of my investments. I trust that the people who manage my small investments have protected it against wild swings. This is why countries with floating rates have the most stable exchange rates over the long term. It sounds counterintuitive but when you know the rate is determined by the market, it forces you to innovate in ways that reduces risks to manageable levels.

Friends, this is another very good thing that the CBN has done.

Our problem is not that we cannot produce all these items, but our attitude is hampering their production. The root cause of all our problems is that we don't love ourselves. When Tecno started, they started by pirating Nokia products. Through trial and error, they graduated to producing competitive phones. That is how it is supposed to be; but Nigerians would leave our products and go for others even if that products are dangerous to our being.

We hardly patronize what is ours. Imagine when the phone lines of ministers and legislators are released, majority of them are using MTN lines. What happens to Glo that is ours? If we all decide to use Glo lines, the company would have enough funds to upgrade their infrastructures so that they can conveniently compete with global brands. This message can start from us, take a close look at your belongings; how many of them are produced in the country? May God heal our country.
PoliticsRe: President Buhari Opens A Nairaland Account by sparrowkid: 8:02am On Jun 16, 2016
I know most people are already convulsing over this news. If they can be on twitter, facebook and other social media, while not nairaland? Whether we like it or not, nairaland is our identity. It portrays the way we are. It resonates our aspirations as Nigerians whether good or bad. Nairaland may not be perfect, just like any other foreign platforms, it's a true representation of all that is Nigeria. We usually have our ups and downs, and at times we find a common ground where we lay down arms and embrace each other. grin

Our reactions to issues here has always been narrowed down to what the Yorubas called "Eko Ile" or "Iwa Omoluabi". Our interactions with others would reflect the kind of upbringing we have. Our elders say "Ile ni a ti n ko eso r'ode" and "bibiire ko se f'owo ra". If you are well brought up, there is a way you'll deal with your enemies not to talk of friends. The Arabs have a saying that you cannot give what you don't have. Period!

The media are the ones promoting sectionalism in this country. Simply because they are made to cough out N9million collected from Dasukigate, they have vowed to promote just anything that will portray this administration in bad light. I don't blame them, when majority of them depend on Facebook posts for their news items, what do you expect?

The question a reasonable fellow should have asked is that was he the only non-Muslim in the whole community? Have they been attacking people in that community in the past because they didn't fast? PoliticsRe: Interim Report On Recovered Loot Released (pics) by sparrowkid:
Some things are learned while some things are natural. It's like some people have configured their brains to always reason in the reverse. To them anything good is propaganda while everything bad should be celebrated. One begins to wonder what has happened to them within the spate of 365 days. That's why they say hatred is dangerous to even the health of the hater.

1. If the names of the looters have been released, the first case would have been why did they release their names; while the second case would have been where are the names of APC members? Another possible scenario would have been why are there many names from the southern part of the country than the northern part? Or why are there more Muslim names than Christian names? Or we better still, "we know that they would concoct the names from our regions because they hate us or we are the notorious 5%. And so on and so forth.

2. If the names of APC members were to be released, the argument would have been didn't we tell you that APC is a party of rogues? Or, in another way, where are the names of so and so, xy and z? Without their names, the list is fake. They would have looked for every single thing to discredit the list.

3. As you can see now, despite the report being "INTERIM", some people have been running their mouths by saying they were expecting the money to be this to be that. They are saying this because the amount released is somehow credible. But if the amount were to be much bigger than this, you would have seen them spewing the same rubbish that they are even expecting more. [Sigh] Who did this to these people?

Another issue they are now raising is that they believe everything about this government is all propaganda. Now one wonders when propaganda as a political tool is now an exclusive right of a political party in Nigeria. Has anyone stopped PDP or others from using propaganda? The only issue I see here is that the only thing PDP is good at is arrogance of power. See, even to loot and clean mouth perfectly is a serious problem. They caouldn't even loot very well without leaving traces!

For example, their own propaganda is like: "Aisha Buhari wristwatch is $10million"; "Zahra Buhari engaged to El-Rufai"; "Buhari's shoe costs $8,000"; "Buhari is not wearing singlet". Now tell me, how do we help these kind of morons littering the cyberspace with news like this to score political points? Who is interested in this gibberish?

APC was successful in the last elections not because of the fact that they are the best, simply because Nigerian citizens just wanted to test another political party at the centre. APC was just able to key into that space at that period and they were able to do it effectively. People didn't vote for APC because they love APC, it's just a case of when the desirable is not available, the available becomes desirable. So all those who are still whining should stop and let's move forward. You're the one drawing the nation back. May God heal your battered life if you happen to fall within the category of these sets of clowns.
PoliticsMy People, Today's Event Calls For Serious Concern And Vigilance by sparrowkid(op): 10:24pm On Jun 02, 2016
Fellow countrymen, there is more to the event of today than ordinarily meet the eye going by the events of the last few days. Without taking too much of your time, kindly ponder on the points below;

1. The Niger Delta Avengers after blowing up series of pipelines last week Friday asked us to wait for something big. According to them, something big that will shock the world is coming.
2. President Buhari on May 29th failed to read out the names of looters as promised. According to reports, we got to know that he was prevailed upon by no other personalty but Obasanjo who we all know that have the respect of PMB anytime. We were informed that Obasanjo asked him to shelve the plan because of the possibility of people mobbing the so-called looters who would be held responsible for the current strangulating effect of the economy. Kind of make sense.
3. Out of fear, Minister Lai Mohammed who has been saddled to release the names quickly said that no names would be published but the loots will be revealed. This actually suggests that something fishy is going on.
4. Later the FG informed us that the names would be released by Thursday unfailingly. Also on Thursday, a landmark programme of the clean-up of Ogoni is expected to take place. President Buhari according to the Minister of Environment Aisha Mohammed on Wednesday has given the assurance that he would be physically present at the event.
5. On Wednesday, former President Jonathan suddenly came back to Nigeria after a while outside the country. He immediately moved to Otuoke his home town.
6. On the same Wednesday, a report has it that Niger Delta Avengers have promised that they are ready to kill President Buhari if he dare show up. Remember point 1? What can be bigger for a terrorist organization than killing the whole president of a country.
7. While expectations were high on Thursday in respect of the visit of President Buhari to Ogoni, suddenly out of the blue moon, came the report that the president would not be going to Ogoni again. But would be duly represented by the Vice President.
8. As expected, the Vice President represented the President at the historic event and everything went well.
9. Later came the report that it was actually because of a strong security reports by both UK and US that made our amiable President to stylishly jettisoned that journey to Ogoni.
10. And finally, this story of Jonathan who incidentally came home yesterday to rest after a wonderful trip abroad, suddenly jetting out to an unknown location is quite suspicious and pregnant with a lot of meaning.

My fellow people, are you seeing what I am saw? (Apology to Gringory of the Village Headmaster). We all know that President Buhari is currently fighting the war of his life in ridding the country of corruption and impunity. So many people are not happy with him by tampering with their traditional 'source' of livelihood eg:

a) the corrupt federal bureacrats or civil servants who can no longer tamper with the public funds as usual due to the introduction of TSA and other measures;
b) the legislators who for the first time have to be weaned of their traditional 'ghana-must-go' for budget defence;
c) the governors who are now being exposed to their people for their reckless spendings and failure to manage bailout funds meant to offset the salaries of their workers which they failed to pay in the first instance;
d) the former political office holders and their allies who have been sucking and raping the nation all this while suddenly being asked to vomit their loots by fire by force;
e) friends and sympathizers of the last regime who are beneficiary of stolen funds;
f) the corrupt business communities like the banks and oil magnates whose source of livelihood has been dealt a deadly blow due to the current shout of anti-corruption fight;
g) the military that have been compromised by last regime and have to grapple with the fact of living a spartan lifestyle because of one man who abhors ostentations.

As our elders would say, "oju ni alakan fi n sori". My people let us all be vigilant and prayerful. A very powerful war is currently going on and all hands must be on deck. One thing all of us must realise is that it has to do with survival and liberation of our country from the enemies within and outside. God help us all. Stay blessed.
PoliticsRe: Buhari Will Be In Rivers Today For Ogoni Clean-Up by sparrowkid:
Some people wish that it doesn't happen simply because they have been sold the wrong narratives all this while. The kind of picture they were given of APC or Buhari is quite different from this. They have been told that APC is a Muslim party that will never meant well for Christians; it is a party of northerners that can never wish good for the southerners. It is a party of their enemy and so must be resisted at all cost.

On the other hand, Buhari has been portrayed as a brute, a dictator, an ethnic jingoist, or a religious bigot. So the idea of Buhari or his party doing something good for them is totally confusing. The idea of a Buhari doing what their 'brother' cannot even do for them for half a decade in office in just one year is inexplicable. The idea of a northerner fighting and protecting the interests of people of other region and religions is too much a bile for them to swallow.

Therefore, they know that very soon their people will begin to question them. They will begin to suspect them and eventually deal with them. They are seriously afraid and apprehensive. Because they have been feeding on the ignorance and stupidity of their people all this while. The idea of a liberated people questioning their leadership is something they don't prepare for. So, they must continue shut out their brains from reasoning. They must been configured to hate, and even if there is any good from the 'supposedly enemies', it must be seen as an attempt to persuade them.

One begins to wonder the kind of psychological and physiological make up of these sets of people that have this kind of mindset. But one has just got to pity them because they are really frustrated, angry and hungry. May God heal their souls. Amen.

For those looking for Rivers state projects, nobody is preventing you from downloading the document from the budget office website. Check your area(s) of concern and do us a favour by coming down to post it here. The OP is not paid by anybody to do what he is doing. He is a concerned Nigerian whose sole interest is to foster unity by correcting most of the lies flying around.

You can come here to lament and whine when you have searched all the projects in the budget but couldn't find your state here. Thank you and God bless.
PoliticsRe: South-south Capital Projects In 2016 Budget.. by sparrowkid:
Despite the OP saying that the list is not exhaustive, you still find people saying this place and that place is not there. The question is who is preventing these "very observant" people from not looking up the list from the source. In the first instance, you didn't bother to check for your state or community projects in the budget, somebody took pain to do that and instead of you to go to appreciate what is done, you still went ahead to slander the OP, accusing him of taking money. You people should fear God now.

I know the problem most of you are having is that you have been sold the wrong narrative. Be it as it may, even at that, can't you on your own search for the truth and set yourself free? Your brain has been configured to hate anything from this administration even to your own detriment because the narrative has always been "they hate us because we are this or we do that". This is the first budget in the history of Nigeria that will be heavily criticized by both government and the citizens. And the simple fact for this is because there is transparency.

What I would expect a normal concerned citizen to do is to channel all the complains to the right authorities using the right medium. Virtually all the ministries have twitter handles, facebook pages or their respective websites. Take a picture of the problematic areas in your community identified as federal concern, and let them know. And you keep on sending reminders even calling them if need be. By that you'll be able to draw attention to your community. Secondly, going through this budget, one can specifically be concerned by one of the projects and decided to take up the issue with the authority. For instance, if I know that a dam that is ongoing in my community is among the listed project in the budget, what I would do is I will keep on sending reminders to the ministry of water resources frequently so that they don't forget and I will be quoting the said amount. By this, they will know that we are now conversant with our roles as citizens and not to be seen as enemies of government.

So, fellow country people, this is the time for all of us to really put our government on their toes. Thanks to Sahara Reporters, we now have the numbers of our serving Senators, governors, and ministers. Let's engage them positively and not calling to abuse them because they don't belong to our tribes or religions. If Nigeria is better, all of us will be better for it and our children will be proud of us. So, STOP BEING A NUISANCE IN THE BLOGOSPHERE. Cheers.
