Jobs/Vacancies › Tips On How To Excel In An Interview. by spiff005(op): 3:24am On Mar 26, 2018 |
I was opportune to partake in an online discussion in one forum last night and the whole discussion was on educating graduates on how to excel in any form of interview and i thought of not be being slefish. So i decided to share with nairalanders because i don't know who else might need this apart from myself.
Useful interview tips In most of the interviews you find yourself. It is an opportunity to sell your skills and be accepted by prospective employers. The following will help: 1. Dress for the role you are applying for and for the company: if interviewing in the bank it makes sense to put on your clean white shirt, tie and corporate suit for instance 2. Practice non verbal communications like standing or sitting straight, maintain eye contact, strong handshake when you are offered etc 3. Listen to the questions and you may write down the questions in sequence to help you deal with all. Clarity the question if not clear and don’t interrupt 4. Don’t talk too much or too little as you may be talking your way out of preference. Stay on the question and bring perspective in line with the question 5. Use appropriate language. It is a professional discussion and you avoid using slangs or languages pointing to gender, religious, ethnicity, Colour, race or political affiliation 6. Even if you know someone on the interviewers or someone in the company, do not show too much familiarity. Stay on the official conversation...in order not to embarrass the interviewers and yourself with that attitude 7. Avoid appearing cocky! There is a tin line between being over confidence and being arrogant. Your appearing being very overly sociable as first impression may throw you out of favour in what looks like a first impression 8. Ask questions when you are given the time to ask but avoid compensationquestion until you are asked. Make sure you ask questions to clarify expectation from you and speak as if you are already in the role. 9. Don’t appear too desperate. Maintain your cool, calmness and confidence throughout the session. After all if that does not work another will 10. Be authentic, if you are faced with questions you have no clue, let the interviewers know you have not experience this. It give your perspective if you are in the situation what you may likely do. But do not create fictitious solution to the difficult questions.
These are in-exhaustive but following the above will help you win in your next interviews. |
Culture › Re: Oba Joel Sunday Daodu Kidnapped In Ondo by spiff005(m): 3:53pm On Apr 17, 2017 |
ahmedkoded95: By James Sowole in Akure
A first class traditional ruler, the Oniyani of Iyawo Akoko in Akoko South West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Joel Sunday Daodu, was at the weekend kidnapped by gunmen.
The monarch, THISDAY gathered, was kidnapped along Ose Oba Akoko axis of Ikare-Owo road almost the same spot where the Regent of Akungba Akoko, Princess Toyin Omosowon was kidnapped about two years ago.
It was gathered that the monarch was riding in the same vehicle with his second-in-command when the abductors struck. The monarch’s abductors had demanded a ransom of N15 million before the Oba could regain his freedom.
A colleague of the kidnapped monarch, the Owa of Ogbagi, Oba Victor Ojo Adetona, said a brother to the Oniyani had called him that the abductors had demanded for N15 million.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the Ondo State Command, Mr. Femi Joseph, said the command would not encourage payment of ransom or any money to kidnappers.
He, however, said men of the command were already on the trail of the abductors in order to ensure safety return of the monarch.
Speaking on the incident, the Olowa of Ogbagi said it was high time the government provided security for monarchs in the state.
He said they had written to the government on the need for at least on policeman for monarchs but nothing has been done.
He also decried the treatment being given to traditional rulers, who were being treated with respect in the past but had not been turned to another thing.
The monarch therefore demanded that government should revert to the old tradition whereby Obas were being treated with respect and honour.

Bekwarra: I don't want to call them unfortunate because that will be too harsh thus I used unlucky. But these states just happen to replace one terrible governor with a worse one especially since the start of this democratic dispensation in 1999. I don't know the cause; maybe it's predestination, a dearth of good leaders, the people making wrong decisions or a combination of these factors. The states I will group in this category are
1. Benue: From George Akume to Gabriel Suswan and now Samuel Ortom, the state seems to be richly "unblessed" with visionary and good leaders as governors. For a state that pridye itself as the food basket of the nation, it should be feeding a large swathe of Southern Nigeria and the middle belt with agricultural products while also taking over some food markets in West African countries. Unfortunately, agriculture in Benue is still largely subsistence. Where is the government support to empower farmers, where are the Hundreds of large farms that should be dotting the landscape? What happened to attracting huge investments in the area of processing some of these products into finished goods? Have you taken Benue orange before? Where are the juice making companies to harness these? Mechanized farming still remain a luxury to the people. What about having a state owned cargo airport to move out some farm products? Where are the good roads to move products from the villages to the towns for onward processing and transportation? I can go on and on. What is the poverty level in Benue? Security? Herdsmen? Level of development?
2. Kogi: Governance in Kogi state is nothing to write home about. Nothing is happening in that state as far as development is concerned. How many times have you seen Kogi in the news for any ground breaking developmental project? We get to see Lagos, Anambra, Rivers, Kano and even Osun. Kogi governors can't maximise the strategic location of the state bordering many states and located at the central part of the country. Like a Kogi-born friend once told me, the only thriving economy in Kogi state is politics. The state capital looks like a modern village, no good roads, no industries. Nothing is happening in that state. Can't think outside the box. Imagine having Abubakar Audi, Idris Wada and now Yahaya Bello as governors. Can a state be more "unblessed"?
3. Abia: This state is a sorry case. Despite being blessed with smart and hardworking people with great spirits of entrepreneurship, of is still so underdeveloped. There are no good roads and recognisable development that can be commensurate with the human resources the state is blessed with. Their governors are just their to loot. Just imagine if Aba is located in Lagos, it would have easily become West Africa's commercial and economic hub generating billions of Naira to the government.
Notable mentions- Kwara and Delta.

TheHerald: The United Kingdom’s departure from the European Union has been formalised following Prime Minister Theresa May signingg to the effect.
Giving official notice under Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, it will be delivered to European Council president, Donald Tusk later.
In a statement in the Commons, the prime minister will then tell MPs this marks “the moment for the country to come together.”
It follows June’s referendum which resulted in a vote to leave the EU. The BBC reports that Mrs. May’s letter will be delivered at 12:20 BST on Wednesday by the British ambassador to the EU, Sir Tim Barrow.
The prime minister, who chaired an hour long cabinet meeting earlier, is set to make a statement to MPs confirming the countdown to the UK’s departure from the EU is under way.
She will promise to “represent every person in the whole United Kingdom” during the negotiations – including EU nationals, whose status after Brexit has yet to be settled.
“It is my fierce determination to get the right deal for every single person in this country,” she will say. “For, as we face the opportunities ahead of us on this momentous journey, our shared values, interests and ambitions can – and must – bring us together.”

bumi10: The rejection of Acting Chairman of EFCC has been generating a lot of controversy since last week Wednesday and the ripples are yet to calm down. Charly Boy is not the latest celebrity to pen an interesting piece on the ongoing saga playing out in Nigerias hollowed chambers (NASS). Recall that BringBackOurGirl founder, Oby Ezekwesili reacted to the incident with series of tweets via her tweeter handle and one of her write up reads "The mayhem playing out in Nigeria Senate is an international embarrassment". According to Charly Boy: Lately I have been thinking and visualising all the jagbajantis going on in the legislative branch of our government and Na vex just dey worry me. See as some people dey prance around like dem be Kingcon, I just dey sorry for us. Shey una dey follow the twin issues of EFCC’s Ibrahim Magu and Col. Hameed Ali (Rtd). Una see the drama?
These Sinators abi na Legislooters do not even understand why they are supposed to be the closest politicians to the people and if Integrity is the yardstick, which of the sinators is capable of standing in that chamber when most of them deal in deceit and sustained inhumanity to the average Nigerian. The audacious impunity of these supposedly honourable lawmakers is one of the failings of politics in Nigeria. If the senate rejected Magu because of the two controversial letters or the report from the DSS and they have the right to this; what was the reason for the second rejection? Watching the whole process of dramatized insanity by Sinators; you would actually believe there was a new DSS report. Unending drama. There was none and the DSS simply referenced the old report that the President directed the Attorney General of the Federation to Investigate, and Ibrahim Magu was given the opportunity of a fair hearing to defend himself and he did. When the President re-submitted Ibrahim Magu’s name, he referenced not only the letter of rejection from the Senate but noted that the Issues raised had been investigated and the AGF had given the all Clear. So what was the Dramatization all about? Make I no lie, most of these sinators are petty and mindlessly incapable of providing legislative leadership.
Sinators using integrity as the yardstick for rejecting Magu is not only laughable, but it is deceptive and hypocritical. Most of these yeye sinators have failed as governors, businessmen and women, ministers, commissioners and politicians. But because of corruption, they have always managed to keep themselves in the corridors of power as they continue to loot and chop. Weytin else dey rain for them? They have cases of corruption trailing them like flies on shit. In my books, they represent the worse of the Nigerian humanity and typifies the crazy insanity that has become dishonourable members. Most of these senators who have no sense of Nationalism will do anything to destroy the country and they have not even started but we the people must be prepared to stop them. The only force capable of defeating and running these yeye senators out of town is the force and energy of the frustrated, hopeless and vexed Nigerians, because me I just tire for most of these riffraffs.
I Support #OCCUPYNASS but are Nigerians Ready?
The case with Col. Hameed Ali is just a bit childish for me. Na weytin Sef? What has wearing of uniform got to do with the job of the Comptroller General of Customs? Could it be that our sinators are so bored with no work, no free cash, no padded budgets? Or maybe their market don knock since nobody is ready to lobby them with cash so they pick unnecessary battles with a president who won't lobby with cash. So, for revenge, they pick unnecessary fight with his finest. Both Hameed Ali and Ibrahim Magu seem to be doing well in the EFCC and Customs that the sinators probably are afraid that the evil that Politicians do will live with them today. Why are the Senators afraid? Politicians do not want to face the consequences of their actions and they do not want Government to Work for the People and I can't say that I am surprised.
#OurMumuDonDo; All whistle blowers, wipp out your whistles, its time to make some noise. If the people will not rise up and fight Injustice; they will never be served properly by politicians. I am ready to fight. I am ready to #OccupyNass; I am Ready to hold the Line and get Nigerians to hold Senators accountable.
My fear is not death; My fear is not the bullet that will silence me; It is the inability of the suffering docile Nigerian to wake up from their mental slavery, It is the inability of the Nigerian people to fight for their rights; It is the Insanity of the evil demonic politicians who offer nothing to the average Nigerian but use them as Political pawns that I am afraid of. Una Mumu never Do?
We MUST begin to mobilize for the good of this country; or else most Nigerians go chop sand sand before this year end. So join us at www.ourmumudondo.org as we lead the Revolution of the willing. The Senate is not a friend of the people; they are our enemies; Politicians are not friends they are our enemies and the fight against the evil in our country that have bastardized our Humanity must be fought with dedication, determination and desire to see real change.
I Support #OccupyNass because #OurMumuDonDo !!!
