http://afrospiral..com.ng/2016/08/nigerian-lawyers-happy-with-decision-to.html Nigerian lawyers have expressed delight and approval of the August 25 decision to strip the police of power to prosecute criminal cases. Section 106 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015, transferred to the Federal Ministry of Justice the responsibility of prosecuting all criminal matters as part of the reforms of the justice system. The Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Abubakar Malami, SAN had in a statement said his ministry had so far taken over about 8,000 case files from the police for prosecution. Some have expressed the hope that under the reform, justice would be dispensed fairly when lawyers start prosecuting criminal cases. Police prosecutors sometimes frustrate cases by being absent in court, usually compelling judges to dismiss criminal cases on grounds of lack of diligent prosecution. A lawyer speaking to the NAN, Mr Isaiah Oje said that prosecution of criminal matters by lawyers was a welcome idea that would chart a new course in the nation’s criminal justice system. He said:“With our integrity, strength and fairness in prosecuting criminal cases justice will prevail. “We are all going to deliver criminal justice of the highest quality so that we can inspire confidence and trust in our communities. “We will fairly, appropriately and firmly deal with criminal conducts in the most effective and efficient way and in a way that is transparent.’’ “Lawyers will ensure that criminal matters are promptly dealt with, reduce congestion of prisons, and end detention of persons awaiting trials in prisons among others. “Lawyers will respect and protect the rights of all those affected including victims, witnesses, suspects and defendants,” Oje added. An Ikorodu-based lawyer, Mr Ezekiel Ogbaide, also told NAN that police prosecutors had in the past perverted the course of justice because of their inexperience and poor knowledge of the law. Ogbaide said the use of lawyers to prosecute criminal cases particularly at the magistrate courts would speed up trial of cases. “Knowledge is the basis upon which advanced societies built their justice system. “We know for sure that a lawyer will always outwit a policeman who does not have a proper understanding of the workings of the law in court whether on a civil or criminal matter. “Many innocent persons have suffered injustice in courts because of the poor handling of cases by police prosecutors. “The only way out is to employ only lawyers to be charged with prosecution at all levels,” he said. Ogbaide suggested that lawyers should also be consulted even at the level of investigation before a charge is brought against a suspect. However, a lawyer at the Lagos State Ministry of Justice, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said banning police prosecutors would not be effective without adequate funding. “This system cannot work because in the Ministry of Justice, we have a few lawyers compared to the number of courts in Lagos alone. “Former Gov. Babatunde Fashola tried to implement it during his tenure, but it was unsuccessful because of insufficient funds. “I doubt if the government has the capacity to pay the salaries of lawyers that will be recruited as legal counsel. “The best the government can do is to assign some lawyers to assist the existing police prosecutors and not to scrap it entirely. “The government should come up with a well laid out plan for the prosecution of criminal cases,” he said. Choi..the truth is bitter. as ChloroQUEEN...Owu na bastard very accurate |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tf6M0ur-ZSA The Oyo and Ogbomosho road is a long abandoned project (since the Obasanjo era) , this road links and will be a crucial artery of trade between north and south-West Nigeria. The Alaafin of Oyo (the King of Yorubas) was awaiting the Governor of Ibadan and dignitaries and then they all drove the length of the road to the point of the flag off. The Federal Government on Monday formally flagged off the construction of the N6 billion Oyo/Ogbomoso expressway, with a promise to ensure its completion during the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. The reactivation of the express road, chiefly facilitated by Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, representing Oyo Central senatorial district was flagged off by the Governor of Oyo state, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, at Elete, Atiba Local Government, Oyo. The Chairman, Senate Committee on Works, Senator Kabiru Gaya, in his speech said the road is one of the cardinal projects and would be completed within the three years of President Buhari’s administration. Senator Gaya then called on “the contractor, Reynolds Construction Company (RCC) to speed up and finish the project within the speculated time. I want you to work extra hard to achieve this because this is a very important road to Oyo state people and Nigeria. “We will also put the old road into repair before the completion of this road.” Senator Gaya however frowned at the contractor handling Oyo/Ibadan axis of the expressway for what he described as “sad story experience” while coming for the flag-off ceremony of the road construction. He then publicly summoned the contractor to the Senate in Abuja to explain why the road is in bad state few years after completion. Gaya said “despite the fact that Senator Sunmonu was on the neck of the Senate and the committee to ensure that the road is accommodated in the budget, we however had a sad story on our way here. The Oyo axis of the road is bad now. I wonder why a newly constructed road would be in that shape? We’re calling on the company to come to the senate and Ministry of Works to come and explain to us why that road is in that state. “There is no point that road should be bad again. We plan to have goods roads to link the South from Lagos to Oyo and Kano, including other parts of the Northern side of country. pics coming.. |

..Kacichukwu said the president had made efforts by visiting neighbouring countries and that the army was much more brisk in its combating the insurgency. He also mentioned the arms scandal of the past administration as having earlier hampered effort. |
This evening Kacichukwu spoke to Richard Quest: Nigeria's Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Dr. Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu told CNN on Monday that the militancy in the Niger Delta had significantly reduced Nigeria's production output adding that President Buhari was "concerned" about the problem. He said Nigeria would have to struggle to meet the budget due to the drop in output. CNN's Richard Quest Kachikwu The Minister was speaking to CNN's Richard Quest on issues relating to Nigeria's petroleum industry and the slight rally in global oil prices. On the issue of seeking a cut in OPEC output the Minister of State said he was not optimistic that that would happen. He added that OPEC represented 30% of Global production and that Nigeria would have to be competitive in the other 70% Quest played a video showing the criticism by a Chibok leader that the army had started rounding up the operation in the North-East to focus on the Delta militancy without having found the girls and that the pipelines were deemed more important "than the girls in the bush" . As u said not by force so go to express and embrace a speeding trailer so you can stop being a Nigerian. |
This should be a police job but from the way Nigerian police treat their vehicles its better to leave this task to the NAF but it sends signal of aerial external threat so it should be a joint task force with police so as to avoid negative signal. Lagos police have a chopper that circles daily |
While i deplore the loss of lives 6 dead is hardly a "state on fire" ..even the Ketu clash in Lagos was bigger. Journalists/bloggers and news sites should not heat up our polity with sensationalism..peace not war..love not hate..unity not division. Nigeria will be great and one in Jesus name..we will not fight war in Jesus name! Mods take note cos the OPs headline was not sensationalism but Nairalands was . Nairaland should stop fanning embers of tribal hatred..so much Tribalism here (e.g name checkers etc) when we know we all(tribes) have our bad and good sides. War no b beans o! |
oboi this dog get testimony o |
Foreign press always want headlines showing Africa as a horror zone to discourage our Diaspora brothers from wanting to go back home, so they can continue to oppress the blacks in their lands. Also they want to deepen divisions amongst us to make us fight each other. Even though this govt has its faults Boko Haram is well decimated under them and they are doing a good job in the battle.. Also to accuse Buhari of fighting christians or whatever is very unproffessional and insensitive knowing how sensitive an issue religion is. These whites always wanna see us kill ourselves so they can laugh at us. If BH still held sway would so many of these hungry kids not be dead? Cant they emphasise the victories over BH? Fela said it finish to these white devils..Teacher dont teach me nonsense |
llol e don enter one chance |
Christians should start to arm themselves and be very alert with situational awarness..if he had a jacknife on him he could perhaps have avoided losing his arm and killed his assailant. A shotgun on his back even better. Anybody that follows this demonic group is on his own... if your heart does not condemn this killing of innocents the real God will judge. We are in the end time and this was prophesied we must be prayerful and know how to defend ourselves spiritually as well. Christians don't worry the Bible says the gates of hell can never prevail over his Church, meaning the more the persecution, the more the Church will grow. We have a greater power than them. We have the Spirit of the all wise God..the children of the enemy will always kill more of themselves than they will kill us. if you don't pray in tongues please start to do so immediately because this is your best defence against the enemy..we have our own spiritual armory the name of Jesus is the strongest call it and believe it ..but be ready to kill anyone who wants to kill you..they dont have two heads..show no mercy when you sense a threat to your life. We must be gentle as doves yet wise as serpents in these times. God wants all to come to Christ before the end the message must be preached far and wide, lets all renew our evangelism and that comes by cleaning up our lives and following and studying his word, we need to be real Christians now since some want to kill us for being Christian then we might as well be..the type that can lay down their life only when they want to like Jesus dis the kind that can destroy the works of our enemy and kil them with words . Why is the name of Jesus so offensive to the world? Because its the spirit of the antichrist the Devil himself has set up a philosophy (you know he is very smart) bending the hatred of men towards Christianity and its world preserving and prospering rules and appealing to the fleshly nature of men (polygamy, conquest rape, licence to murder, etc) Mixing truths from the Bible with perverse lies. I urge all who read this to truly consider Christ who died as a sacrifice for all humans to bring us back to God, to atone for our ancestral and personal sins. This is the most important thing. |
If a man on the street say this it will be offensive, even among nasty Naija Politics this is a new low of speech and action.. Throughout history so many have died from disputes started by women. A gentle man can become an animal to avenge his disrespected wife. I believe this guy should be ready 4 whatever. |
