Fulani herdsmen or Fulani pastoralists are nomadic or semi nomadic fulani herders whose primary occupation is raising livestock. The pure Fulani pastoralist engages in random movement of cattle while the semi-nomadic makes transhumance migration and return to their camps or homes. The Fulani herdsmen are largely located in the Sahel and semi arid parts of West Africa but due to changes in climate patterns many herdsmen have moved further south into the savannah and tropical forest belt of West Africa. The herdsmen are found in countries such as Nigeria, Niger, Senegal, Guinea, Mauritania, Mali, Burkina Faso, Benin, Cote d’Ivoire and Cameroon. In Senegal they inhabit northeastern ferlo and the southeastern part of the country. In many of these countries the Fula often constitute a minority group.

In Nigeria. the livestock supplied by the herdsmen provide a bulk of the beef consumption in the country.

Herding system
A pastoral Fulani family is the traditional herding unit. Tasks are divided by gender and age among the members of the family. The main work of men is to manage the herd, find grazing sites, build tents and camps and make security tools such as knives, bow and arrows and guns. Women in the unit take on traditional roles such as sourcing food produce in the market, milking cows, weaving and mat making. Some women are also involved in farming such as growing vegetables and raising poultry.

Cattle is the dominant composition of the Fulani herd in countries such as Nigeria and camel is the least liked animal. The livestock is largely female with close to 60% of cattle being female, the male species are usually reduced by selling them.

Movements
Fulani herdsmen's engage in both random and planned transhumance movements. Random movements are usually taken by the pure nomadic Fulani herdsmen while planned movements are taken by the semi nomadic pastoralist. A primary reason for the migratory nature of the herdsmen is to reach areas with abundant grass and water for the cattle. The herdsmen also move to avoid tax collectors, harmful insects and hostile weather and social environment. A major benefit of the movement for the herdsmen is to maximize the availability food resources for the cattle and reduce excessive grazing. Before moving new areas, the herdsmen send a reconnaissance team to study the area for availability of resources such as grass and water.

Source of income
The sale of cattle, goat, sheep and dairy products such as milk constitute the primary source of income and livelihood of the herdsmen. Their wealth and riches are often measured by the size of the Cattle herd being the most treasured animal they herd. Traditionally, the herdsmen often loaned a cow (habbanaya) to another until she calves and after weaning the calf, the cow is returned to its owner. These herdsmen herds several species of cattle species of cattle, but the zebu cattle is the most common in the West African hinterland because of its drought resistant traits. The dwarf Ndama cattle is commonly herd in the wetter areas of Fouta Djallon and Casamance as result of their resistant to trypanosomiasis and other conditions directly associated with high humidity

Nigeria
Fulani pastroalists started migrating into Northern Nigeria from the Senegambia region around the thirteenth or fourteenth century. After the Uthman dan Fodio jihad, the Fulani became integrated into the Hausa culture of Northern Nigeria. Thereafter, during the dry season when tsetse fly population is reduced, Fulani pastoralists began to drive their cattle into the middle belt zone dominated by non Hausa groups returning to the north at the onset of the rainy season. But while managing the herd and driving cattle, cattle grazing on farmlands sometimes occur leading to destruction of crops and becoming a source of conflict.

Nigeria's implementation of the land use act of 1978 allowed the state or federal government the right to assign and lease land and also gave indigenes the right to apply and be given a certificate of occupancy to claim ownership of their ancestral lands.[16] This placed the pastroal Fulani in a difficult position because most did not apply for lands of occupancy of their grazing routes and recurring transhumance movement will lead to encroachment of the properties of others. The Nigeria government designed some areas as grazing routes but this has not reduced clashes. From 1996 to 2006 about 121 people lost their lives in Bauchi and Gombe states as a result of conflicts between pastoralists and farmers.

PoliticsRe: The Murder Of The Fulani: #yugoslavia Unfolding. (by Ffk) by spinna: 12:23am On Apr 12, 2016
This is another timely piece from FFK may he live long, this is a real issue the body language and activities going on are too clear to see, in fact there is even a need for vengeance for the blood that has been shed, like God pushed the Egyptians into the red sea maybe we the South are to be the instruments of his vengeance.

But truly every southern youth should start to learn what they need to learn, we dont pray for war but we must not allow ourselves to be slaughtered like chicken, there are wars of self defense and if we fight one we must be fierce and decisive.

Southern youth dont regard anybody as special..if somebody is carrying dagger u sef carry yours, if some one feels he can kill at will, if you see him coming for you get him down.

Learn how to handle the k7 on google and how to disarm also have krav maga training on your phone, you the weak will turn out tobe the strong one because we are learned, we must use our brains.. but we must never be scared

The Nightmare scenario which i see the evilones planning is some religious or political crisis that will truncate this present dispensatioon giving opportunity for TERRITORIAL EXPANSION when suddendly aks emerge 4rm every aboki shop or herder as we can see in AGATU, this is unacceptable and must be strongly restricted because if they take a town they will be very slow to give it up so better to prevent it fast

The herdsmen are what we call advance troops or infiltration troops..thats why they are never even mentioned by the authorities, they have their agenda ..spying the land

we also must be equally comfortable in the wild... we are all too f***ng soft especially in mind...as you dey flex dey drink beer dey watch telemundo someone is plotting to slit your throat slowly while you watch his colleagues rape your wife, sister mother and daughter...let us never say this can never happen..imagine what the Jews were thinking when they entered the concentration chambers.. "unbelieavable yet here i am about to die we should have armed ourselves".. we must prepare for the worst its obvious that massive violence was being prepared for prior to the last election shld Bhri lose.

Me i prefer the Lord to a sword and his own is what i expect will fall because he has never failed us...but we must bear these in mind so that should it come to be a time to act, we will be swift and united thats why i'm sharing these.

Let us try and keep our guard because we have sleepers in our midst

Very proud and grateful to God to announce the development of my Car racing game based on the streets of Lagos find video and pics below..Game will be out in the next few months

AMP Games a Lagos based media firm is pleased to announced the ongoing development of the first Nigerian 3d Car Racing game based on the city of LAgos Nigeria

The game -"L.R.X" - which will soon be released soon on Android, Windows Phone, IOS and PC format will enable players to drive around race tracks based on major streets and areas of the iconic city of Lagos.

The game is in line with the mission of the firm to redefine African entertainment.

"Lagos State has the highest number of cars and drivers in the entire country. unfortunately driving in Lagos is often a very stressful activity fraught with dangers and harrassments of different kinds, not to mention the persistent traffic jams or "Go Slow" during rush hours.

The L.R.X game puts the fun back into driving in Lagos as there are no rules, no damage to car or drivers, no limits to what you can do on the steering and the added bonus of the car being very ready to perform stunts. This means you could find yourself making a flying jump over the MM2 Airport Plaza or blasting through the barriers at Lekki tollgate.

Indeed this is a historic event in Nigerian entertainment and information technology history. It is also a timely development at a time that Nigeria is set to focus on home made products the hashtag #buynaijatosavethenaira .

The game is a tribute to the hardworking people of Lagos as well as the immediate past and the present administration of the state who went through great strides to restore the beauty and order to the great city of Lagos.

L.R.X will be available soon on google playstore and other platforms

Physicians have traditionally categorized burns as first-, second-, or third-degree injuries, according to the depth of skin damage (see illustration). In a first-degree burn, only the epidermis is affected. These injuries are characterized by redness and pain; there are no blisters, and edema (swelling due to the accumulation of fluids) in the wounded tissue is minimal. A classic example of a first-degree burn is moderate sunburn.

The damage in a second-degree burn extends through the entire epidermis and part of the dermis. These injuries are characterized by redness and blisters. The deeper the burn the more prevalent the blisters, which increase in size during the hours immediately following the injury. Like first-degree burns, second-degree injuries may be extremely painful. The development of complications and the course of healing in a second-degree burn depend on the extent of damage to the dermis. Unless they become infected, most superficial second-degree burns heal without complications and with little scarring in 10 to 14 days.

Third-degree, or full-thickness, burns destroy the entire thickness of the skin. The surface of the wound is leathery and may be brown, tan, black, white, or red. There is no pain, because the pain receptors have been obliterated along with the rest of the dermis. Blood vessels, sweat glands, sebaceous glands, and hair follicles are all destroyed in skin that suffers a full-thickness burn. Fluid losses and metabolic disturbances associated with these injuries are grave.

Occasionally burns deeper than a full thickness of the skin are incurred, as when part of the body is entrapped in a flame and not immediately extricated. Electrical burns are usually deep burns. These deep burns frequently go into the subcutaneous tissue and, at times, beyond and into the muscle, fascia, and bone. Such burns are of the fourth degree, also called black (because of the typical colour of the burn), or char, burns. Fourth-degree burns are of grave prognosis, particularly if they involve more than a small portion of the body. In these deep burns toxic materials may be released into the bloodstream. If the char burn involves only a small part of the body, it should be excised down to healthy tissue. If an extremity is involved, amputation may be necessary.

Surgeons measure the area of a burn as a percentage of the body’s total skin area. The skin area on each arm is roughly 9 percent of the body total, as is the skin covering the head and neck. The percentage on each leg is 18, and the percentage on the trunk is 18 on the front and 18 on the back. The percentage of damaged skin affects the chances of survival. Most people can survive a second-degree burn affecting 70 percent of their body area, but few can survive a third-degree burn affecting 50 percent. If the area is down to 20 percent, most people can be saved, though elderly people and infants may fail to survive a 15 percent skin loss.

Severe burns cause immediate nervous shock. The victim grows pale and is confused, anxious, and frightened by the pain and may faint. Much more dangerous is the secondary shock that comes a few hours later. Its chief features are a dramatic fall in blood pressure that leads to pallor, cold extremities, and eventual collapse. This secondary shock is precipitated by loss of fluid from the circulation, not just the fluid lost in the destroyed tissue but fluid that leaks from the damaged area that has lost its protective covering of skin.

Burns kill not just by damaging tissue but by allowing this leakage of fluid and salts. If more than a fifth of the blood volume is lost to the circulation, insufficient blood returns to the heart for it to maintain blood pressure. And the loss of salts, particularly sodium and potassium salts, not only disturbs their balance in the body but changes the osmotic balance of the blood and body fluids. The significance of these physiological changes was understood in 1905, but not until the 1930s were doctors able to correct them with transfusions of blood or plasma.

I got some video of the fire .

i was scared when i saw a burnt up saloon car in the midst of the burning tankers..i wondered if the occupants could suddenly survive the sudden explosion from the sparks of the falling tanker on the road, now i know. So sad trailer drivers and road conditions make interstate driving treacherous in Nigeria. RIP

I havent read the original but this has many bitter truths for Nigerian girls.. Their behaviour is outrageous sometimes so guys should just keep hunting for the "special" ones in their midst but leave your "signature" on the others while you search. Never allow yourself be trapped by the "typicals"

I always take time to compliment any Naija girl i see with a natural hair do... although i can understand the demands of fashion.
