I have an uncle in the US who's over 43yrs in d US but he's not helping. Now I want to go for masters in the same US but I don't know where to start,I have read d previous conversations but d terms sounds Spanish. Please someone should help a brother...what do I do? This is exactly how it was for me, but with enough dedication and discipline you'll get to know these terms really fast. Don't stop reading last conversations, with time you'll be very familiar with these words even enough to contribute and answer questions. |

NYPD: I left for the US when i was 25. My parents cant even afford to buy plane ticket. Application, flight ticket and all was paid by me. I had to tell them i was on a scholarship (which i wasnt)so they dont have high bp thinking how they would pay my fees.
The thing is whatever you set your heart to get, you would get it. Nigeria frustrated me, i was almost depressed even God knew he had to take me out before i ran mad, so he provided the resources. Sheke, come and see this. |

Can someone directly ask your graduate coordinator for funding? Like persuading Yes, you can ask them directly. I feel it's always good to ask them before starting the application process too while following up through it. |

dk2baba: I want to go for an undergraduate program in USA and I already have a degree certificate here in Nigeria am 25 would age not b a barrier?? Pls I need an urgent response from an experienced person Why do you want to go for another undergraduate programme? Are you going for an entirely different field? It's always difficult to convince a VO that you are only going for studies and not just running away. If you can convince them, good and fine. There was a girl here last season who got her visa to study another undergraduate course - she switched from the humanities to tech, look her up and see what she did different. Why not go for a master's degree though? |

People between the ages of 20 and 25 who go through this admission process themselves (including monies paid for travels, living expenses, tuition, visa fees and others) without so much support from family, how do you do it?
Also, is it possible to travel to other countries for visit sake with one's F1 visa while living in America?
I am asking for a friend. I am that friend. |

Cos i dont get the strength to read again when i get home owing to the stressful day at work and stress going back from yaba to ikd. Buh i know for sure that we'll share our testimonies last last. BabbanBura: UK is easy and straight forward. The money (Tuition, accomodation and upkeep) has to be in your account and they have no business with an individual sponsor. Some schools even demand you pay the tuition before issuing you the CAS that forms part of your documentation for visa application. So no worry yaself, get the admission, accept it and have the money in your account for atleast 30days before your visa application date. She's asking for the US. |

UromOta: what should I do? how should I go about it? You'd have to go to the immigration office in Abuja. The Glass House to be precise. Thing is that you'll pay more for your data to be changed (about 4 times or more what you paid to get it in the first place). I was there last week to change my data. In my case, my birth month was incorrect. What I did was send my documents bearing my correct birth month to my friend who works at immigrations, including a letter stating the incorrect and correct months. I travelled to Abuja last week for my capture and returned same day. My passport is in my city now but just hasn't gotten to my house yet. I'll go pick it up tomorrow or pay to have it brought to my house. I'll advise you get the right person to do it for you so you aren't swindled off many hundreds of thousand. |

UromOta: Hy. I'm CHUKWUEMEKA by name. actually I'm still an undergraduate but hoping earnestly to further my education in US. There is one thing that has been bothering me. It's my passport. I have a passport already, but the problem is that the DATE OF BIRTH on my passport is not same as the one on my other documents. The error occurred when I was registering for the passport, a wrong and inconsistent birth certificate was used. Now I've gotten the right one and also a sworn affidavit. Please how do I go about effecting the change of DATE OF BIRTH on my passport.
please i need help. Thank you. I'm glad you've taken the right step in correcting your data, and I'll be very honest with you. Correction of data (date of birth especially) on your international passport can only be done in Abuja, and nowhere else in Nigeria. Don't allow anybody tell you otherwise. |

oladiran2: Okay, thanks a lot. I work far north so I intend to travel to Lagos in November so I should be able to get 2-3 letters of recommendation from my supervisor and lecturers which I will take back with me and keep till when needed. Who gives statement of purpose please and what's it about.please kindly help me with the list of documents I should make available with me since I have no clue. Thanks alot It doesn't work that way really. The LoR is not something you submit yourself except maybe for special cases. Everything is done online. The only thing you're supposed to do is provide the email addresses and job designations of your recommenders (usually from two past lecturers and one from work - it varies though). Your recommenders would be sent online forms to fill, after which they'd write letters that highlight your readiness for the programme through the experience of once having you as their student or employee. People make travels for this when their recommenders aren't computer savvy or are taking time to do their bit, so they go help them through to make it faster. I'd strongly advise you start disturbing your recommenders as this part of the application could take a very long time to complete, no thanks to unserious recommenders. Anyway, just find your way around it. As for the statement of purpose, you're the one who's suppose to do that. Browse the internet and look through as many examples as you can. Deep down yourself, you should know why you're opting for the course you're aiming to study. Don't duplicate another person's own please. Americans do not tolerate plagiarism. You should check your programme's requirements to know what documents you'd be needing to make your application complete. I hope that was helpful. |

oladiran2: Scared of it though, trying to look at the Feb 1 deadline for application for my course was why I was considering October. February 1 isn't so far away as regards application processes but it's still enough time to finish your application. You should look at dates in November or early December so that there are enough weeks to spare for sending your result to the school of your choice. Just start to gather your other application materials (LoRs, statement of purpose, etc) while reading for the GRE. The GRE is something you have to read properly for, unless you're okay with low scores or repeated writing. You could register with B. Y Mafit (through a simple Google Search) or ponpon on this thread. They both subsidize the standardized tests fees. Just breathe and take it one step at a time, okay? |

oladiran2: Thanks a lot for your time, It's listed as part of requirements. Would send email to confirm more then since I noticed the requirements hasn't been updated for awhile but would also start preparing to write the GRE hopefully in October. Don't you think October is too close for adequate preparations? You might need more time. Well, I don't know. You might be able to ace it within such little time, after all some Asians only prepare for 20 hours and are able to get great scores. Cheers |

oladiran2: Thanks for your response. I intend applying for msc in plant science at the university of Massachusetts amherst but they have these test listed as required in all their offered courses. Does this means I can just apply and ignore the GRE within as been required?? quote author=GboyegaD post=71206076]
GRE isn't compulsory however, it is good to write and ace it if you require funding as it helps in comparing students during admission and also, it is a way to start preparing mentally for graduate school. The idea of a cheap school shouldn't be too much of concern to you rather, I would say focus on schools that offer what you want and see how best you can benefit from their funding. If they have it as a requirement for your intended course, then you MUST write the necessary one(s) unless they are waived for you. Why don't you want to write any standardized test though? |

I differed my admission to next year march , the school agreed to change my starting date in the new i-20 they will send for my interview but that i should use the old admisdion letter sent to me. Pls going with this old admission letter will it cause any problem in the interview Does the old admission letter bear another semester? I don't think that would be a problem since you deferred the admission. You can check their international students section's FAQs or better still, ask the person you've been communicating with. |

oladiran2: Please house gurus, I really need answers on this bothering me and I hope to get a reply from anyone as I will keep checking through the thread for my next step. I am looking forward to apply for my masters in agronomy(agriculture) and I want to know if it's compulsory for me to have GRE, or is it just a requirements by individual universities while some won't need it so I can know if I have to think of writing GRE or GMAT and the likes. Thanks It's not compulsory to write any of the standardized exams especially if the schools you're applying to do not require them. So, it's on you to go through their websites and email messages to know how to go forward from here. The thing here is that in some visa interview cases, it shows how serious that candidate is; and their preparedness to want to study. It boosts your chances of standing out when admission decisions are being made for funding. Honestly, I'll suggest you write the germane exams. You might just need them when it's dire. You can use same GRE score for 5 years, TOEFL for 2 years. |

Please is it advisable to use a bank statement of a US resident as my sponsor?
US bank statement I mean. I need to be certain on what to do. Please help me ooo. I need meaningful contributions please void of complications. Thank You!!!!!! Yes, you can. As long as your sponsor has enough funds in the account for your tuition and cost attendance for 1-2years, you're good to go. |

Emusan: I haven't used my passport anytime, can I be denied visa because of that? A virgin passport won't be a reason why you are denied a visa. I read about someone on this thread who said she had to travel to different countries so she could have travel history and boost her chance of getting the visa but was still denied. I really don't think that would be a problem. Just do your own bit. Also, make sure it's not an expired passport. |
