Jodera: I know most arsenal's fans blood dey hot but I really understand his substitution of Jorginho and pushing Havertz forward as Cf (for winning aerial duels) especially towards the end of the game. It's just to emphasize on control then try to see the game out through a nil draw. Since there's no away goal rule, it would have been a good result to see it out but Galeno had other ideas 💯 |

BlueRayDick: So because it's a 2 legged match we should lose first leg Abi ? Is there any assurance we will win the second leg with the kind of performance we saw yesterday ?
Arteta not bring on an attacker in a game we didn't have shot on goal for that long makes no sense at all.
We should be aiming to win both legs and not hope to draw one and win one. Bringing on Nketiah towards the 70th minute would'be brought another vibe to our attack. The Porto guys were kicking everything in sight like Newcastle ; Nketiah could've committed them in the box I am not against you but all you have said are mere speculations. What if we had changed and it led to conceding two or three goals? Assuming that goal didn't come late, your point would have made more sense. But at 0-0 it does not make sense to me really. And I am even trying to be a bit emotional here |

mostob: We have never beaten Porto at home and they have never won in our home. Another reason to be optimistic but seeing that European KO matches are Arteta's banana peel, the second leg is a 50-50 for me.
I read the Porto's coach interview and he proved me right. Using the same lineup in 3 consecutive matches has its consequences. A little shake up yesterday and Porto wouldn't have any 'answers'. I agree with you. However I think that at home it will be more like 70-30. Considering how we demolished Lens and PSV |

BlueRayDick: Yesterday's match was a forgettable one . I watched the match till around 89th minute and went to sleep . How can we not have a shot on target for almost 1 hour 30 minutes of football ? 🤷🏼♂️
That match just shows we are a team without a manager that knows how to tweak things to get a difficult result . After the end of first 45 mins I was expecting the manager to tweak things and have a team with different tactics and mentality come on for the second half . Unfortunately ma same same we play for second half .
My fear now is even if we find a way to beat Porto and qualify for the next round , other more disciplined opponents will use the Porto tactics and give us more problem .
I'm a fan of Arteta but he needs to learn to do things differently ; if not we will keep losing knockout matches under his watch . Porto just played like a more disciplined and focused Newcastle yesterday . At 0-0 we were at advantage. How do you expect him to tweak things then? This is a two legged match o. |

You're the one who said there's no ameliorative measure that could be enacted. I suggested one that has been implemented successfully in peer countries and you're asking about the impact. This is one example. How about opening the borders or reducing import duties on essentials for a limited period?
Cumulatively, don't you think these measures would have softened the blow of a subsidy removal? If I can come up with these, are you trying to tell me that a well-meaning leader can't assemble a panel of experts that'd put together a better plan than sharing rice?
And if you're saying that the best that Tinubu and his "we prepared for 15 years" gang can suggest is sharing of rice, then by all things that's sacred, don't you think they are ill-equipped to pilot the affairs of this nation.
You're British. How many boneheaded decisions did Liz Truss make before she was bundled out? How about Carol Bartz of Yahoo who was sacked over the phone?
Yet here you are giving the most stupendous excuse in the history of excuses that a confirmed dolt should not be criticized because he plagiarized the manifestos of more capable candidates.
If Nigeria was a private company, will you accept that BS you spewed? A non-performing CEO should not be fired or criticized because his replacement will do no better. In fact, you're cocksure that his replacement will take the exact same stupid decisions in the exact same moronic manner because you're Doctor Strange moonlighting as a finance pro. Dangote Refinery hasn't released any refined product into the market, since it was supplied crude by NNPCL and from the USA. It was David Hundeyin that first hinted that this whole Dangote Refinery ish is a big scam and that they will eventually opt to import petroleum products. IMF has now come out to say that the government has resumed fuel subsidy. One of my very experienced Prof who was a member of ASUU national exco and MAN, told me that the reason no refinery can work in Nigeria is because of IMF and World Bank (Europe and US). Those two banks will never allow it. That's because they control whoever is president of Nigeria. The same goes to Ajaokuta Steel Complex. I have mentioned this here before. I am still testing this view, but it's looking more likely than not. The present president is a complete puppet to the Neo Colonial powers. I will be surprised if it works. |

Jodera: I always criticize anyone who misses easy chances and GJ wasn't an exception. I've criticized even Saka here during his early days for missing chances before he improved tremendously.
The reason why we argued was because you were saying he's missing chances because of his workrate he normally do and that he needs to stay in the box like a traditional 9 why I disagreed saying he's just not a great goalscorer.
I've always always been an advocate for false 9 role right from beginning I am not talking about missing chances but being a 20goal per season player Did you accept that he was not a striker then? Because I said the reason why GJ doesn't score much goals is because he is not playing as a traditional striker. |

Ødegaard made sure that occurred, though, as he consistently organised the structure of his team.

Much like Bernardo is for Pep, Ødegaard is like a coach on the pitch for Mikel..

mostob: Every player in that team is being used the same way. Tactically amd positionally, no player plays in a single position throughout the match. It has nothing to do with Havertz.
So, I disagreed with you. It's Havertz. Havertz can push to CF for Trossard to drop into midfield or drops further deep to form a midfield square with Odegaard, Rice and White, Havertz drops into a double pivot with Rice to allow Odegaard push forward to press, Havertz goes wide into LW to allow Martinelli go central attack and infield to form a front two with Trossard. Everyone is moving but it almost always involves Havertz. That's why I said he is the free man and joker, the space interpreter that determines the positions others take in the pitch. You don't have to argue with me, just go and watch our last two matches. |
European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga) › Re: Arsenal Fans Thread: The Red & White Army: 2025/2026 EPL Champions! by Spy360(m): 5:56pm On Feb 18, 2024 |
Jodera: What a rollercoaster weeks of football this team have served us. We're looking well poised for the challenge been set before us and that's really a good thing.
1. Scoring 21 goals in 5 matches and conceding only two is stuff of champions and to do that in 3 away games is nothing to be joked with. What is even more interesting is that we've allowed just two shots on target in those 5 matches. Wowwwwww!! Back to back zero shot on target conceded while scoring 11 goals? It just feel un-arsenallike but hey, I'm not complaining
2. This Dubai trip seems to do a lot of wonders for us and I'm so glad it came at the right time when we were at our lows. Suddenly no talk of needing a proper Cf amongst our fanbase, cohesion within the team is at an alarming best, our set piece delivery is dope. In fact, it just feels like a new different arsenal compared to the first half of the season.
3. I love the new tweak Arteta have made in finding a system to isolate Saka let him be 1v1 with defenders instead of the normal 2-3vs1 Saka is always suffering from. Now Saka is seen to start from deep before making that darting runs instead of always been hanging out in the wings. The constant fluidity and movement in our frontline helps too. Saka now playing closer to goal infield, Martinelli shuttling between WF and outright Cf, Trossard knowing when to play the CF role and when to drop deep so that Havertz will fill the CF role by making those deep runs which confuses the CBs, White inverting and and helping in our buildup(must be said, he seamlessly took that role like duck to water), Odegaard being Odegaard — pulling the strings with his creativity and vision and Rice doing what he knows best. It must also be said that Raya have been exceptional since the restart of this year. His distribution have been top notch and his confidence at the back is great. Kiwior have been great also since playing the conventional Lb role he's been assigned to but he needs to improve in the attacking 3rd. Not forgetting our two CB dynamos (Gabriel and Saliba)
4. I was surprised about Martinelli first time pass to Odegaard which led to our first goal ystdy. Same thing he did against Man u. I just wish he could be looking up more and giving a certain pass/cross instead of just blindly whipping a hopeful cross anytime he gets to that byline. Trossard and Havertz understanding is something I noticed in this passed two games (various swapping and movement) and I just hope it continues. It not only confuses defenders since they won't know who to mark but it also makes Odegaard to give that defence splitting passes since he can spot runners going in behind defence. Havertz first touch let him down numerous times ystdy and I was hugely surprised cos that's his strongest quality. Happy with his goal cos it's of good quality and long may it continue. Trossard—Havertz partnership, it'll be interesting to see how it continues when Jesus comes back.
5. Porto away next. Let's go there. I'm feeling more ecstatic than ever. Moreover this team looks more matured and experienced, something we lacked last season. Let's go for the win
COYG!!! You make plenty sense here I no just fit object to any. That's impressive. Keep it up |

Roland17: We have been playing a flat back 4 with Kiwior since he came in for Zinny against Liverpool. Inverting Kiwior will only complicate things for him, so Arreta is keeping everything simple and it has worked. No. It has not been a simple flat back four. White has been inverting from RB, exactly what Partey did at the start of the season. At least give the rookie some credit. |

Jodera: You clearly said Havertz and White are cerebral players according to how Arteta are USING them. You clearly said they're the brains of the team.
You said all these because of how they've been playing for arsenal these past few weeks.
How then Is it a hypothesis when the "how" and testing have already happened?
You gave a list of skills, defined them and gave categorised examples with our players under such skills. How then is it a hypothesis?
I don't care if you're the godfather of research department ooo, but you see this English, you must grab understanding of English first
