Lol. Primary role. Goal scoring when it's a nervy ucl 2nd leg night in 2011 than need to take you to the semis or final and a defender is thru on goal like Torres was vs Barca with all that Miami and Elegushi beach space left and right and you want to tell me it is down to primary role? Abegi noww. Haaland usage is off. He's the best goalscorer around right now. So using him to buttress Kai wasting 1v1 is off.

Once you're a footballer or basketball, how to find the net when you're very clear on goal is a must not an excuse if you miss. And that is aside unlucky times. We're talking of it being a norm. Swap Arteta with just 6 managers and that Liverpool miss ended up not being buried or no rebound and tell me if all 6 won't bench him straight.
Apples and oranges

Havertz is not a striker, Torres is a striker.

But Havertz on a Cl final night one Vs one with Ederson, scored the only goal and Chelsea won the CL.

If your MCM Haaland can miss a one Vs one as the best goal scorer in the world, then you should cut Havertz some slacks with he doesn't do as he did in that memorable night against Man City.

You can write this statement below as hypothesis;

"There are three categories of skills for footballers. They are physical, technical and cerebral"

You can't say Saka is the hand of arsenal while Saliba is the bone of Arsenal then claim it's a hypothesis.

Hypothesis in football terms simply means speculation or preview. In order words, it's something that hasn't happened yet but due to past data or information, you believe this will happen

For example, If you give reasons why you feel/think someone like Havertz will shine for arsenal before he was bought here and reasons why Arteta needs him, that itself is a hypothesis.

All what you're saying since and all what we've been talking about are information that have ALREADY happened or is presently happening. And categorising skills is never termed hypothesis.

You can't say Odegaard is a very good Am, then claim it's a hypothesis. That's a fact through OBSERVATIONS.

Just thank me for the lecture this morning.

Like I said earlier, when you're ready to talk away from hypothesis in this brain, hand and leg matter, then let's discuss.
Ok. Now I get your ignorance.

Hypothesis can be a speculation in lay man's language, but it does not stop there. It can also be an UNTESTED IDEA THAT HAS BEEN DRAWN FROM OBSERVATIONS. It is part of the scientific process of establishing facts. In other words, it is a fact that has not been proven. It is the second step of establishing facts or theories or principles, the first is OBSERVATION.

Now who is lecturing who? Lol

You are chatting with a research scientist nugga.

Now why I call my idea an hypothesis is because it is not yet proven. That is why I said it is open for objections by anyone. I am not claiming it as facts. But if any body is going to object then that person must do so logically and scientifically. You are neither logical, rational nor scientific. That is why you are arguing about the term 'hypothesis' instead of looking at the ideas I have put forward.

Mostob is sad that I called Saka hands but Havertz brains. Lol. It doesn't mean any is more important, it is just a function of their functions.

And same you still claim it's personal and when you wanted to start your article you started with :

You're not serious Spy. I no dey argue hypothetical and personal things.

Both maybe under physical or technical.
But Cerebral? No. They're not the brain of the team as you claimed. Replace them with Tomiyasu and Jesus and we will still be fine. Those are not the kind of players you termed as cerebral.
We will be fine, but have you asked yourself why Arteta will always play White and Kai? That's because they make the game easier for others.

Meanwhile that I said they are cerebral players does not necessarily interpret to mean that they are the brain of the team. I have also stated that some players I consider physical or technical may be more cerebral than some considered as cerebral. For example, you may be a carpenter and I a mechanic. But you may know the mechanic work more than myself.

The keyboardist in the band may be a better drummer than the drummer himself. But the reason why he is in the band is to play the keyboard and not the drum. I used to be part of a musical band where one guy knows all the instruments more than every other person playing whatever. He is the pianist but is better than the bassist, better than the drummer, better than the lead guitarist etc.

So when I say White is cerebral it does not necessarily mean that he is more cerebral than Rice for example even though by my assessment he actually is.

Let's compare Rice, Partey and Jorginho (the highest gets max points as the standard guage)

On physicality
Rice 10, Partey 7 Jorginho 3

On technicality
Partey 10 Rice 8 Jorginho 5

On intelligence (cerebral)
Jorginho 10 Partey 7 Rice 7

From here you will see that Rice and Partey are more balanced in their skillset than Jorginho but if you need a cerebral player you call on Jorginho.

Have you noticed that Arteta always uses Jorginho against big teams like Man City or Liverpool where his brain is needed more?

Every coach would want any player to score 1v1

But if that's not his primary role, then it cannot be used against him. Besides many top strikers have missed 1v1 including Haaland on several occasions.

It open for debate.

You ask yourself, what's special about this player. Is it his physical attribute or his technical or his brains.

Saying that White and Havertz are cerebral players does not suggest that they are the best. That's is just what makes them unique.

Ordinary the best player should have a high dose of all three skillsets and not just major on one. For example, Saka has a lot of pace and stamina, he can also dribble and curl the ball, but he is also very good with his brains in his spacial awareness and movements.

Saka, Odegaard and Rice have the best combination at the club.

That's tue more reason coach playing him as CF is wack. If football was 12 men i wouldn't mind having him in any free role on the pitch. What's painful is he's missed 16 chances to bury balls this season. If we didn't win most of those games by others scoring, even you no go wan talk or defend him. But yeah, off the ball.
It would be nice if he were a good goal scorer and finisher. However those are not the reasons Arteta plays him as a CF. In fact he is not really playing CF. He is just occupying a space to create chances for others. Our main goal outlets in that team are Saka and Martinelli/Trossard. The earlier we get this the better our analysis of the game.

Even people wey dey embark on project, write articles and essays always have references to show yet you couldn't even bring one. Typical you, always forming words and definition of football terms from your head then turn around to accuse me of always rejecting it.

NB: Just because Havertz was instrumental in the first goal against Liverpool doesn't make him the "brain" in our team. I've watched that video a day after our win against Liverpool and because of you I have to rewatch it again, no where was cerebral ever mentioned (which was what I asked you to bring).
I guess you didn't watch his analysis Vs west ham where he specifically said it's through Odegaard our football flows and it was an in-game decision from Arteta that White have to play the Inverted role just so that Odegaard would be accessible. To put it clearly, Arteta basically have to bring Odegaard into the game for we to break their defensive shape.
If you've not watched it, see it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5beivGJWHFc?si=4v65V5EPBhoo_3QD

Also, try and watch this too and see how Rice is also the brains behind this team. It also answers why we always need a false 9(in this system) instead of the traditional 9 most of us are always clamouring for here.

A traditional 9 won't make this system flow well. It's one of the main reasons arsenal got better when Auba was exiled and it's also one of the main reasons Nketiah isn't seeing match presently again (Jesus, Havertz, Trossard in that order). I'll encourage all of us to watch it if we haven't

Lol. You will always go off point trying to catch up with my intelligent analysis.

Mind you, my hypothesis on players' skillset is a personal and not a scientific principle and so you have no obligation to accept it. However, you were not able to refute it either. You failed to give one single logical reason why you rejected it. You simply asked for a reference which I gave for showing that players can be cerebral.

As for the video you posted, it was not about Rice but about Arteta and his tactical formation. You are right that a striker will not do well playing in that formation. I have already seen and talked about this since like months ago when you were still a tactical toddler and argued about why Gabriel Jesus isn't scoring goals like every other striker. Remember? grin grin grin

In that same video you posted at the end of it, it was obvious that though all the players must be involved, the main deciding factor in Arteta's positionless tactics is Havertz and not Rice.

Like I said before Havertz is a space controller and interpreter which you argued for days with me. It's funny how you argue with me but still prove me right by trying to prove smart. 🤣

No the video was referenced to show that some players especially Havertz and Jorginho are cerebral players. I guess you and Jodera missed the first few seconds where he points to his head saying that Havertz is full of brains.

What that analysis aimed at is that it was our cerebral players that made the difference against Liverpool otherwise that game was a balanced draw.

Yeah White is very much underrated and underappreciated with respect to what he brings to this team

But

While your analysis of different categories of skills in football is beautifully crafted, I don't quite agree with it.

1. In your categories, I believe it should be only two (physical and technical) and that the categories of cerebral should be given to technical cos that's essentially what technical skills is all about (spatial awareness, positioning and movement).

2. You concluded by calling Havertz, Jorginho and White "the brains" of the team.
Hmm, We all know that title belongs to Odegaard presently and to some extent Rice.
This duo are the ones that's making this system tick cos they involve much in the buildup, control, shape and press of the system, transitioning of attack and understanding the use of space well.
Calling them hand and leg or whatever is a great disservice to the work they're doing at arsenal.

Take out Odegaard and put Havertz (your brain) in his position and take out Rice and put Jorginho (your brain) in his position and let's see whether this system won't crumble.
The only person who can confidently replace Rice in this setup for long is Partey and that's because he also is another brain of the team.

Meanwhile the people you termed as Cerebral or the "brain of the team" players are the players that can be easily be replaced without feeling any huge drop in form. Everyone knows this. White for Tomi, Havertz for ESR/Trossard, Jorginho sef na bench player.
There's a reason they're called "brains" to start with.

3. I would love to see any article, site or blog (or even videos) where you at least referenced this write-up from, for clearer understanding, cos I've searched and searched and I didn't see any Cerebral skill in any category of skills for footballers.
I will be expecting. cool
I have no issues if you don't accept my idea. I can also say that you were unable to refute them.

You always ask for references but when you see them you turn around again to deny them or reject them.

The YouTube video below is fourfourtwo (I don't know if you're conversant with the magazine, but they have a strong reputation with Arsenal FC). It's a short video analysing our game with Liverpool. Listen carefully.

Like I said players have a combination of all three skills in them. But one usually dominates the others. It's like temperament.

Odegaard is very cerebral but his technicality dominates his brain work. Howbeit he is more cerebral than many cerebral midfielders.

As for the description of Rice in the bolded, goes to show that he is more of a physical player.

But it's obvious na grin
It is obvious that fans underrated White.

There are three categories of skills for footballers. They are physical, technical and cerebral.

Physical - stamina, speed, endurance

Technical - ball control, dribbling, crossing, shooting (especially curling the ball), finishing

Cerebral - positioning, movement, spacial awareness

Every player has all three but one or two will dominate their skillset. When you look at Gabriel, you know he is more of physical. When you look at Saka he is more of technical, when you look at White you see that he is more of cerebral.

Please note, that a physically or technically inclined player may even be more cerebral than a cerebrally inclined player. For example, Rice is a physically inclined player but is more cerebral than Elneny who is a cerebrally inclined player.

Cerebral players are the ones the manager uses to determine, control and direct their onfield tactics. At Arsenal, Arteta uses White to a great effect in controlling how he wants the team to play. Other players include Havertz, Jorginho etc.

The reason why you would almost certainly see White and Kai in an Arteta line up is because they are the brain of the team. The likes of Gabriel, Saliba, Rice may be the bone, while Saka, Martinelli, Jesus, Zinchenko are the hands, White and Kai are the brains. They will always find a space in the line up.
