Following a deep soul-searching stemming from its defeat in the 2015 general elections, the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) has resolved to return to its core zoning arrangement and is now shopping for a northern presidential candidate to confront the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2019 poll. From The AUTHORITY checks, on the PDP's radar watch are former members of the party who defected to the APC at the height of the in-house crisis that rocked the party before the 2015 polls. Some Northern region members seen as strong and promising candidates are also on the list. The top contenders include Senate President Bukola Saraki, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark, Governor Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo of Gombe State, as well as a few progressive northern dark horses. Even as the PDP carefully monitors significant cracks emerging within the APC, fed by the plots and counter-plots that produced the current leadership of the National Assembly as well as the alleged lack of consultations in producing President Muhammadu Buhari's ministerial list, The AUTHORITY can report that representatives of some of these candidates have been holding clandestine meetings with PDP top shots. These indications are emerging as the PDP continues its crucial National Executive Council meeting in Abuja, with rife allegations of bribery by some sponsors of candidates. Sources told The AUTHORITY that despite the PDP's defeat in the last general elections, the party still enjoys considerable goodwill that will balloon into surprising electoral gains once the PDP returns to its original zoning system - which the party has done. It could be recalled that the Post-Election Review Committee set up by the leadership of the PDP and headed by the Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu has submitted its report to the party. The AUTHORITY scooped that after a rigorous self-interrogation, the PDP came out with a 23-point recommendation, the most important being that the party seeks its next presidential candidate from Northern Nigeria to compensate for the obvious violation of the zoning arrangement in the 2011election which provoked a major apathy in the North from 2011, culminating in the poor performance of the party in the 2015 elections. Sources told The AUTHORITY that the PDP would now adhere strictly to the zoning principle which has been the strength of the party, especially at the presidential and governorship elections. The AUTHORITY also gleaned that the PDP resolved that party organs at all levels should be properly constituted and empowered to function in accordance with the party's constitution and that party structures should be fully recognized and used in all party activities. Further, it was gathered that the PDP will immediately entrench a financial system that promotes accountability, transparency and prudent management of party finances and also embark on a membership review that would have a comprehensive electronic register of members. This will ensure revenues for the operation of the party through the process by stipulating affordable fees payable by members in the new biometric registration. Part of further recommendations of the PDP, revealed by sources, are that the party will develop a fund-raising and financial management plan and should clearly state and delineate financial responsibilities and entitlements of every level of the party administration. In the emerging scenario, it was also gathered that the office of the Publicity Secretary was recommended to receive adequate funding to help the party mount a sustained commentary on the actions and inactions of the APC government. Our sources stated that now PDP delegates will emerge through direct primaries so as to diminish electoral disputes and restore confidence and internal democracy and also the appointment of persons to serve as members of election and appeal panels would be subjected to transparent process. Other recommendations revealed by our sources include that the PDP will develop a campaign finance regulation to ensure the monitoring of campaign expenses and strengthen its legal department to provide post-election support, especially with respect to post-election litigations. The party will also ensure the integration of women, youths and persons with disabilities who are party members into the campaign structures at all levels and adhere strictly to issue-based campaigns following the party's manifestos and avoid all hate messages during electioneering. The AUTHORITY also gathered that would now coordinate and supervise all election activities of Third Party groups to ensure that they conform to extant laws and the party ideological disposition. Meanwhile, some persons from the North East were said to have brought in a sum of N200 million for distribution as bribes to key NEC members since Wednesday night to ensure that they voted for a candidate of their choice from the geo-political zone. However, the NEC is divided between those who want the Acting National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, to continue in office until the expiration of the current National Working Committee in March next year after which a new National Chairman would be elected. Those supporting Secondus posit that bringing in a new National Chairman to serve only for five months is not in the best interests of the party. A prominent member from the North East is said to be in charge of the distribution of the largesse. The use of bribes to project the North East candidate is being seen as against the new rebuilding spirit in the party, which is in dire need of cleaning up its image in the eyes of the public. It is argued that any new chairman who emerged through bribes, would not have the support of the generality of party members and may jeopardize the fortunes of the party in coming elections. http://www.authorityngr.com/2015/10/Saraki-Tambuwal-Atiku-Mark-may-fly-PDP-s-flag-in-2019.html |

I'm surprise with the way Nigerians are losing in APC. Please Nigerians, give them a break, lets see if they can still deliver on their campaign promises. |

Ahead of the Tuesday's screening of ministerial nominees by the Senate, President Muhammadu Buhari, has pledged not to interfere in the exercise. The President through his Senior Special Assistant on National Assembly Matters (Senate), Senator Ita Enang said that he was comfortable with the criteria laid down by the Senate for determining the fate of the nominees. Enang refuted media reports of a rift between the President and the National Assembly, saying that it was a mere conjecture. The Senate had, on Thursday, rolled out the conditions and modalities for screening the ministerial nominees. The conditions include: proof of asset declaration certificates of former public functionaries, acceptance of a nominee's screening by a minimum of two Senators from the state of origin of the nominee, among others. Speaking to Senate correspondents in Abuja on Friday, Enang said President Buhari has great respect for the legislature and would not interfere in the criteria it has adopted for screening and confirming the ministerial nominees. He said: "President Buhari respects other arms of government, their leadership and would not interfere in their activities. Buhari was aware of his constitutional powers and the powers of the legislature to approve budgets, appointments and other measures of the executive. It is impossible for any administration, knowing the power of the other over its own to want to deprive that of it. That is why in everything we do, we do it with the greatest respect for the National Assembly, the greatest respect to their powers, their membership and leadership because they are an arm of government. The Federal government is made up of the executive, the legislature and the judiciary and we will make sure that the respect is maintained and everybody does his job," he said. On the perceived unfriendly relationship between Buhari and the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, Enang said that there was no misunderstanding between them. He explained that the recent meeting between President Buhari and the leadership of the National Assembly goes to testify that the relationship between the two leaders is cordial. I am sure that you can begin to feel the political temperature that has descended in the mind and psyche of Nigerians. The relationship between the executive and the legislature which were thought to be on heat has been fully, perfectly and effectively restored and the public is now aware. I want to say that the conjecture that there was a rift between the executive and the legislature was actually and definitely, and speaking, in all honesty, a conjecture. There wasn't. But I am sure that the meeting as stated by the President of the Senate really proved that there were no rifts," Enang said. He expressed optimism that the media would also, as part of its contribution, report truthfully what transpires in the senate rather than be mischievous in their reports. http://www.authorityngr.com/2015/10/I-won-t-interfere-in-ministerial-nominees-screening--Buhari.html |
Rotimi47:It is only in Nairaland I hear Yoruba's accusing Igbo's of hating them. Look, let me tell you, I am an Igbo boy, born and raised in Lagos, schooled in Ogun State, served in Ondo State, dated Yoruba girls and have a lot of Yoruba friends. It is not right and proper to generalize that all Igbo's hate the Yoruba's. Although,I am very aware of the tribalism in my country, but not all Yoruba's hate Igbo as well. |
Multiple bomb The State Emergency Management Agency, (SEMA) has confirmed 16 people dead. According to reports, the explosions were heard in Damaturu, the Yobe state capital, in the early hours of this morning, October 7. A Port Harcourt-based anti-corruption network, otherwise known as Integrity Group has written President Muhammadu Buhari to demand the withdrawal of Rotimi Amaechi as a ministerial nominee on the ground that he is currently being investigated for corrupt acts while he was governor of Rivers state. The group in an open letter with reference number (Ref: IG/AC/VOL./088) to President Buhari also rejected Amaechi's nomination on the ground of criminal breach of trust, unlawful enrichment and conversion of over N70 billion of Rivers State funds. Addressing journalists yesterday in Abuja, the Director, Media/Publicity of the Group, Livingstone Wechie warned that Amaechi's appointment will dent President Buhari's proclaimed zero-tolerance to corruption. He said: "Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is currently being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) respectively over a petition we wrote and also published accordingly on both local and national media". If Chibuike Rotimi is either nominated or appointed whether as minister or in any other capacity in your government, it will not only question the credibility and integrity of your anti-corruption crusade, or cast serious doubts in this regard; including your Administration before Nigerians and indeed the international community which is following up this matter. It will be likened in the similitude to giving cover to a most wanted criminal hiding under your wings with impunity", the group stated in the open letter to President Buhari. It further reminded the President on his resolve to fight corruption at all levels and ensure that all corrupt persons are not only brought to justice but loots recovered from them. This is as demonstrated in your new philosophy now included in our lexicon; I belong to nobody as well as the change mantra of your administration", it noted. The group in the letter alleged that Amaechi sold Rivers state power projects and converted proceeds amounting to $302 million; unlawfully payed and converted N4.6 billion to Clinoriv Specialist Hospital and Leisure Limited and illegal payment of N1.5 billion to Messrs Collect Nigeria Limited amidst a strong protest letter from the Rivers state Board of Internal Revenue Services. It could be recalled that the Justice Omereji-led Judicial Commission of Enquiry was set up by the Rivers state government to investigate the sales of the state assets under the Amaechi administration. http://www.authorityngr.com/2015/10/Amaechi-s-Ministerial-nomination-dents-Buhari-s-stance-on-corruption--Group.html |
Federal government's 2016 National Budget will include fresh policies and measures aimed at encouraging the rapid diversification of the Nigerian economy away from its current over-dependence on the oil and gas sector. This was disclosed by President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday when he met the leader of the Movement of the Enterprises of France (MEDEF), Mr. Pierre Gattaz and a delegation of French investors. Buhari said that the policies being evolved by his administration to boost domestic manufacturing and attract greater investment to Nigeria's agricultural and mining sectors would be given full effect in the 2016 budget. The President, therefore, urged Mr. Gattaz and the French trade mission, which includes over 50 companies with interest in manufacturing, agriculture, infrastructure development and other areas, to return to Nigeria again next year in order to take full advantage of the new policies. Buhari also assured the French investors that under his leadership, Nigeria will not fall short of international standards in the protection of foreign investments and the repatriation of returns on such investments. Agreeing that domestic security and the inflow of foreign investment were intrinsically linked, the President told the French investors, whose visit to Nigeria is a follow-up to his recent trip to Paris, that the Federal Government was taking all necessary measures to overcome Nigeria's security challenges. "Our government came into office at a time when many people had abandoned the country's manufacturing, agricultural and mining sectors. "We are doing our utmost best to encourage diversification into these sectors which can employ a lot of people and we will welcome your support in this regard. "Ultimately, reducing unemployment will also help to improve security because unemployment and insecurity are inseparable," the President told the French investors. He said Nigeria would also welcome additional French investment in its power sector because availability of steady power supply will lead to the reopening of closed factories and the creation of more jobs. He also assured the delegation that his administration was tackling corruption with vigour to ensure greater probity in the management of national resources. The MEDEF President, who spoke on behalf of the French investors, sought assurances from President Buhari on the safety of their planned investments in Nigeria and the easing of bureaucratic bottlenecks. http://www.authorityngr.com/2015/10/2016-budget-will-diversify-economy-from-oil-says-Buhari.html |

The terrorist group, Islamic State (ISIS) has said it is responsible for Friday's bomb attacks at Nyanya and Kuje, two suburbs of Nigeria's capital city, Abuja, where at least 14 persons were killed and several others injured. The group in a message in Arabic translated and tweeted by a Radio France International journalist, David Thompson, said three suicide bombers executed the deadly attacks. The journalist posted photos of the suicide bombers. The military had restricted the Boko Haram which last year pledged allegiance to ISIS to Nigeria's northeast until Friday night's attack. http://www.authorityngr.com/2015/10/Abuja-blasts:-ISIS-claims-responsibility.html

obum88:Thank God this man is just beginning to understand one simple reality, that PMB/APC government, do not have any blue print, or even a manifesto to run the Nigerian economy. When GEJ hosted a Presidential debate before the March 28 election, for all parties and their Presidential candidates to come out to the public, tell the masses and also explain to them their blueprint and manifestos, and how they want to go about achieving them,I was surprised and shocked when I found out that all the parties registered under INEC were represented including PDP except APC.I developed more respect for GEJ when I saw him on stage, telling Nigerians what he has achieved and what he wants to achieve if was voted back to power. That was when I realised and knew that GEJ is a very humble man and carries the interest of Nigerians in his heart.I was also totally disappointed to know that neither PMB nor anybody from APC was available to represent the party, state and defend what there manifesto is all about, and how it will benefit the ordinary man on the street. It was that same day that I lost respect and knew that PMB/APC does not have anything to offer Nigerians because, I saw him as a man who is arrogant, pompous, proud, and does not have any respect for the rule of law of our great country Nigeria. Let's be honest with ourselves, nobody can blame the SS/SE for not voting for PMB/APC because, all through out the election campaign, those of them who followed the election campaigns of these two big parties found out that, APC did not really come out to emphatically explain to Nigerians their blueprint and manifesto except for the CHANGE they were drumming about, fighting corruption, feeding school children in Government schools, and giving out five thousand naira monthly stipend to the poor and needy in the whole country which they did not come out to the public to explain how they intend to achieve all these feat. In conclusion, since Nigeria is my country, and PMB is now my President, my Prayer, is for him to succeed in whatever plans he has in mind for Nigeria. To please, always carry every body along, no matter the tribe or ethnic group. Last but not the least, communication is a two way thing, let him try to communicate to Nigerians periodically, not leaving all communication to his media officers. Let him come on air occasionally to interact with Nigerians, to air his views, listen to Nigerians questions and problems and tell us what and how he intend to go about handling some certain matters that our dear country is facing. He should try and be more democratic in his approach to Nigerians. I believe this will help him alot and his government. God bless PMB, God bless Nigeria. |
nofij:What did Jonathan government loot? So far, from all the rhetoric speeches by the APC government accusing the Jonathan administration of looting the Federation monies, one single case has not been taken to court,or rather, nobody has been found guilty of embezzling any money. Besides, if you look at everywhere around you, you will see what the Jonathan administration has done. |
kehinde1588:And after the 4 years, APC will be kicked out by the grace of God. Haba, there lies and deceit is too much. |
alexistaiwo:Give her space, and prove to her that you can do without her by flirting around with other girls, including her friends. |
Eazydeek:Gej never promised he will declare his asset. Why should PMB promise what he cannot do?Dont you think that is deceit? |
bigv:Where is the rot dude, tell us let us know. Tell us which part of the economy is rotten-ed, because the last time Jonathan grew this economy to become the largest in Africa. |
zandora:@zandora, I agree with you about everything you've said especially the retaking of the IELTS. However,I can still approach my boss again and plead with him to re-issue me another reference letter stating that I have up to 3 years of work experience, then correct my work experience in the application form under the Schedule 3/Economic Class. The most important thing is for him to back my claim whenever he is contacted by CIC. I will take your suggestion, but I will not wait till March next year before I raise another reference letter.Thank you anyway. |

From your message, I noticed that my work experience is quite low (NYSC experience and periods wasted in search of a job excluded). I think I have to redress it in order for me to get additional point and then become eligible. Thanks, anyway for your observations and suggestions. |
zandora:Hey thanks zandora, Thank you for answering my question. However according to my calculation, I have acquired 63 points out of 100 points. Therefore, I need additional 4 points to be eligible to apply for the express entry program. From your reply,it will be irrelevant for me to ask my Aunt to send me papers because I am not directly to related to her. However,is it possible I tell a good white lie that she is my mum's step sister and then look for how to back my claim? Because as it is now. I dont have any point under the adaptability criteria and the only options left for me to get this additional point and maybe exceed it is to either write a TEF test as a second language or get a job offer which these two options are quite difficult to go by judging from the time frame I have left,in the sense that, we just 4 months for this year to run out, and I may need more than that learn french coupled with hustle. I'm so dying to complete this application and face other issues in my life. So, please I need your candid opinion or suggestion about my problem from both the house and from you because, I have spent a lot of money and I don't want it to fail. Thank you. |
zandora:Hello, I am 27 years with a Bachelor's degree. I have my IELTS exam and ECA report. However, I am confused about this proof of relative. Reason is because, I have an Aunt (My mum's cousin) she want to send me some papers under the proof of relative. I want to ask the house if I am eligible to present her as my relative in Canada. |
Hi all, Please, I have a question which I need some clarification on. Regarding the Proof of Relative under the ongoing Express Entry Program, is it possible for me to use my Mum's cousin as my proof of relative? She's willing to send me papers and I want to be sure because, I think I saw somewhere where they said it has to be your mother's sister or your father's sister. I will be grateful if someone can clarify this for me. Thank you. |
Look at Vanguard newspaper telling us that GMB did not enrich himself during those times he held positions in the past. This people think they can fool us. This same man "GMB" they are praising has contested for election four times now in this country winning almost all of them. He single handedly registered CPC and financed it at the presidential level during the 2011 national election which he came second after President Jonathan. Also, there are facts on ground that he looted some of the of PTF Fund when he was a minister. He also bought his Presidential ticket at APC for 27 million naira. Nobody contributed 10 kobo to purchase that ticket for him. Please, let us not deceive ourself. A poor man cannot do all the feat he has done. He has won the Presidential election. Yes, we will give him and APC that glory, but, he is no Mr Integrity and honesty, and he should not be painted as one. He is just like every other Nigerian, who if he/she has an opportunity to hold a public position, will enrich both themselves and there close friends and family. As for his asset declaration, we will wait and find out if he will declares it after he is sworn in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. |
Hardly will anyone argue that the contemporary Nigerian society is not such that is riddled with avarice and corruption. Both the public and private sectors of the economy stink with stench of clandestine criminal activities. From the office of Local Government Councillor to the exalted office of nation’s President, looting of public treasury stands tall. The evidence: Palatial houses, private jets, exotic cars, countless Chieftaincy titles, flamboyant foreign trips, properties at home and abroad, the list goes endlessly. In fact, it could be a taboo to occupy and exit office without embezzling public funds. But in the midst of all these, there is a Nigerian whose integrity resonates even with tearful testimonials. He is General Mohammadu Buhari. From east to west, north to south, he stands assuredly different from among folks. He has occupied many exalted offices within the political hemisphere of Nigeria, yet available records show he did not selfishly enrich himself. Perhaps, the piece below intrinsically laced up with pictures of the country-side bungalow of Buhari in Daura, Katsina State tells the story more. Getting a clearer shot of the building was a Herculean task. This is because which ever direction you chose to face, there was a piece of nature looking at you. Right from the main, and I think, the only entrance gate to the compound, nature stood, providing shade and convivial serenity that can only make one to appreciate God. They stood, the trees and flowers of all kinds, heralding an environment that exudes grace, peace and love. And you cannot but also appreciate the different tunes of melodious sounds delivered by different birds that had nestle and periodically perch on top of the trees. Outside the compound also is a tank that supplies water to the people of the area. The Almajiris, the telekawas, young and old gather to drink water. People say he is a man filled with benevolence toward his fellow creatures. Though there’s the presence of security men both in uniform and plain clothes, apparently because of his new status, movement around the vicinity does not appear discernibly restricted. And so, people mill around. If such is the case when he is around, one can only imagine how freer one could be to walk around the area without restriction when he is away. But I wonder if anyone ever goes there unless he is around because, his presence is such that magnates crowds who always hail and cheer him. Of course, many in his garb would have chosen to line up buildings, carve out special territories and then fortify them with motley of stern-looking security operatives that would bar people around the area, but that is not the case with him. Instead, he chooses to be close to nature in a bungalow that provides shelter for him and his family. Yes, a modest bungalo. Nothing extraordinary. Just a bungalo close to nature. And that’s the abode of a man who was once a minister of Petroleum, a governor and once a Head Of State. That paints a good picture of Nigeria’s President-elect. That, alone, sends a signal. Confront your wife with your findings, and demand to know why she is that. It is too bad for her to act that way. She is a wicked woman. |
Hello House, A quick one please, after applying for Express Entry, is it necessary to apply to a province and receive a nomination before proceeding forward with your application and getting an ITA? If it is, can you advice me on which province to apply that is good for a telecoms engineer. Thank you. |
Jeez, thanks for your response, I appreciate it. Well, wish me luck then. You are on the right track. Finish up with your IELTS and ECA,then move on to creating a profile on Express Entry. You can then wait for selection once you are accepted into the pool. Express Entry is pretty straight forward, you can do without paid representative. If you have come thus far,you can go farther all by yourself abiding by the instructions.Employing the services of a paid representative will not give you an edge in the EE pool. There is no "Express Entry interview" except of course there is any need for clarification on your profile by your visa office and that is towards the finalization of your application.
|
The last time I checked many of these people didn't see no reason to complain after 6 years of Jonathan's LOOT-FOR-ALL-GOVERNMENT.
