ighoosagie: Basically, am from southern Nigeria; Edo state to be precise and I base in las vegas ( home of casinos ) in the United State of America. Every Sunday while in church on my native attires I look so different from others base on my dressing code, many times it's kind of draw so much attentions which before now was kind of like making me feel so nervous and uncomfortable especially when some white folks come around to ask me were I come from based on my outfits, I tell them from Nigeria "o that oil rich country" they reply and out of curiosity I ask them why re they asking me where am from, they reply ur dressing look odd. I just tell them no I don't look odd rather I look unique and as an African I need to dress like a royalty , also I remind them that we African have our own ways in which we live and that I stand on, though I wear normal casual most often. If you want to wear traditional clothing, be prepared that people will ask questions. For some Americans it may be odd, but it's simply different from the way people dress here. It sounds like your are new to the US? By all means wear what you like, and don't allow yourself to be irritated by their curiosity. Believe me, the bigger issue you will face is where you're from as opposed to what you wear! I'm wondering why do you "need to dress like a royalty"? Nigeria is a republic. 2 Likes |

Jenifa_:13 is the normal age where boys become aware; it's normal. Your statement is absolute nonsense. This is why sex education is important. |
Family / Re: Teenage Boys And Hormones. by Squeegeez(f): 4:51am On Dec 27, 2011 |
He shouldn't have acted that way with you; that part was inappropriate. He shouldn't be beaten (wth!) over something like this, besides beating accomplishes nothing. Your husband would harm a young man for that I would speak to him privately about it, and let the matter drop. I would educate him on behaving responsibly when it comes to sex to avoid disease. He does need education on what is happening with his body, and how to behave responsibly. Otherwise it's just a normal response and certainly nothing to shaken up over. |
Crime / Re: 26yr Old Nigerian, Olutosin Oduwole, Imprisioned For Terrorist Threats by Squeegeez(f): 5:34am On Dec 26, 2011 |
moremi2008:I'm guessing he used a Public Defender. What I think is that he got caught up in the idea of a fast life and fast money. I tried to find personal info such as where are his parents, was he born/raised in the US, does he have any family members here, etc.? I suspect he may have been using drugs but he's definitely not certifiably crazy. The saddest part of all is that in the US he will always be a convicted felon. With weapon charges, he'll be lucky to find a job collecting garbage. Also, there is some merit to what you said about having a "foreign sounding" last name. There is a difference when living in a small town in Illinois versus Los Angeles or New York City, where no one pays attention to a last name. |
Crime / Re: 26yr Old Nigerian, Olutosin Oduwole, Imprisioned For Terrorist Threats by Squeegeez(f): 4:55am On Dec 26, 2011 |
moremi2008: Perhaps at one time it was "rarely" but not these days. There are things you simple mustn't write (or speak). What was written on the paper falls under "Terrorist Threat". Here's an excerpt of what constitutes a TT: What Exactly Does "Making a Terrorist Threat" Mean? The crime of "making a terrorist threat" is a recent creation enacted at both the state and federal levels after the terrorist attacks of 9/11. It is a very general law that can be used to prosecute terrorists, but has been used far more often to prosecute situations involving domestic violence, hate crimes, bomb threats, and school violence. Indeed, in many states, the term "terrorist" has been amended to mean simply "criminal." Although the exact definition varies from state to state, generally one makes a terrorist threat if one threatens to commit a violent crime for the purpose of terrorizing another or of causing public panic. Some states laws are very narrow, meaning the threat must be very specific and direct, while other states adapt a looser approach, allowing even negligently made threats to be prosecutable. http://www.legalmatch.com/law-library/article/making-a-terrorist-threat.html It’s true you can write any crazy thoughts to the ghosts in your head, but only after you’ve been legally declared mentally ill! It’s not uncommon for people who’ve gotten into trouble to use that defense. But the person is put through a barrage of psychiatric testing, hoping they don’t pass! It may not lessen the sentence but instead of prison the person will be sent to a hospital to serve their time. |

moremi2008:Actually you have a point; I looked up more info on the case. Perhaps there is more to the case than was released to the public? Whether there was "much of a case" is now irrelevant because he pleaded guilty. The End. The problem was putting something like that in writing. Anything in writing is considered evidence. The youth don't seem to understand e.g. Facebook & Twitter that it's NEVER a good idea to put something in writing that has the potential to incriminate you. Perhaps if he'd had a better lawyer, like Johnny Cochran, he would be a free man. |

Against my better judgement, I looked at these photos. Extremely painful to see but the world must know. I have very close friends who are somewhere in Abuja with their families. I'm upset and anxious about their safety. I suppose no news is good news or at least that's what I'm telling myself so I can stay calm. I'm so very sorry this has happened on this Holy Day or any day. My prayers go out to everyone. |

moremi2008:Nope, even if he was white it would have gone down the same way. Terrorist threats are taken seriously, so that old excuse of being black doesn't carry much weight in this case. If it were me I would have blamed it on mental illness. |

Mrc1: If you feel name calling and insults will make a difference, you’re a fool. Providing stats and information that I already know won’t work either. Apparently in your haste to defend Muslims you didn’t read my post. Perhaps you’ve interpreted my words to the best of your ability? Nevertheless, I stand firm on my statement and how I feel. AGAIN I will say we don’t know who is who, meaning (just in case you don’t understand) who is good vs who is evil. Thus, I and MANY others chose to be suspicious of ALL Muslims, period. You gave it a nice try, but it won’t work on me. |

saeedbc:I'm sure you mean well with your comment, but who will hold them accountable? Are you and your fellow peace loving Muslims prepared to blow up a mosque during worship? It's become impossible for me to believe there are "peace loving Muslims". Realistically I know they must exist, but how can us non Muslims recognize who is who and what is what? I remember an older woman saying "he was such a nice guy" of one of the terrorists who hijacked the plane in Boston. To attack those who are in church is a despicable, cowardly act. |

It's certainly something I've always wondered. My friend says she had four children because she feels that her husband will not take care of her as she ages. These days four children is more than enough when you must provide for their needs. 1 Like |

You're both adults with the right to make your own decisions. You have the right to be happy and be with the one you love and want. The parents on both sides are stuck in a backwards (barbaric) way of thinking. Get married and let them deal with their issues on their own. I wouldn't leave it open for discussion. |
