https://tradingeconomics.com/country-list/gdp?continent=africa
South Africa's GDP...... $294.84B
Nigeria's GDP............ $405.10B

You are just making lame excuses for bad governance which is amazing,
Let me try and simplify it to you level
A restaurant owner has 10 customers that spend N150 on a meal because they earn N18,000, the customers get an increase to R65,000 and start spending R600 on each meals, even leave tips, the effects ripple down to her staff. Now according to the law governing minimum wages in Nigeria, family businesses, small enterprises, religious organisations, charitable organisations and others receives exclusions or exemptions, this restaurant included,
Now you see the folly of fighting against an increment in workers salary based on your ignorance?? Your type truly amaze me bro

https://www.smallbusinessinsight.org/blog/minimum-wage-no-exemption-period-for-smes
''.....While a number of countries (Nigeria, Morocco, the US and the Philippines) exempt micro firms from the national minimum wage...''

What does it matter if I run a business or not? do the politicians that refuse to increase workers salary run businesses? instead they are totally oblivious to the reality of the average Nigerian,
N18,000 buys you 124 liters of fuel, can't you see the irony of that?

LordAdam16:
Id*ot can you also quote the dollar equivalent of the national budget of South Africa as well as their GDP per capital?

M*ron!

The same SA that produces 40,000+ MW, while Nigeria produces only 4,500+MW.

And can you answer the simple question--"Do you run a business"?

Here is a snippet from the link ''......Nigeria's current minimum wage is N18,000 ($60) with organised labour asking it be increased to at least N50,000 ($166), despite several state and local governments ... Mr. Ramaphosa said the national minimum wage, which equates to 20 rand (1.50 dollars) per hour, would come into effect in May 2018....''

Sensible governments are taking care of their people you are defending slave labour here trying to sound smart, you are a slave I have told you earlier, you need to free your mind from mental slavery bro, that you were born into this quagmire doesn't mean you should defend it!!!! MUMUNI ABURO DEJO

Did you find any reference to hourly wage in the OP? Do we work with hourly wage in Nigeria? Or why are you trying hard to be st*pid?

N66,500 as the minimum wage is unsustainable. Period!

And where did I say in all my replies that workers shouldn't get a raise? You can't stick to one issue, yapping unintelligibly like a canary bird.

Your mistake is to assume hungry and extremely poor people think straight, you expect people living like animals not to behave like animals?
You see people crossing deserts to leave Nigeria and you still don't get it!
Why do you think the rich/politicians ALWAYS build a separate place for themselves to live in and move around with armed security men? because it's dangerous living among the poor, I doubt youths in a middle income area would even disturb themselves with Ali Baba,
We need to stop ACTING like we are in a civilized environment abeg it's a charade, you live in a war zone

You are the slowpoke here,
Firstly, I have explained multiple times that work compensation should be placed on an hourly basis, just like some construction labourers are paid by the day and sometimes take home more money monthly than say some bankers.

Secondly, the more money in circulation among workers, the more the positive ripple effects in the economy and productivity, and the more the woman selling food makes,(people stop buying rice without meat etc) the more the salesgirl makes, the easier for the sales girl to further her education or do whatever with the little she saves. Thats why the economy is stagnant, people can't empower themselves

Even in UK/USA that earn way more than Nigeria, citizens are still asking for a bridge between the rich and poor

You know what, you win, workers should be getting N18,000 per month, how dare they complain? MUMUNI

Oh gosh, minimum wages should be determined at an hourly basis, you shouldn't employ a sales girl full time if you can't pay, are you really this stupid?? employ a sales girl for 3-4 hours a day if you can't employ on full term basis, so that he/she can use their efforts on other jobs, you should be advocating for the end of slave labour but you seem hell bent on proving your level of stupidity.

I want to ask you a simple question, how are Nigerians able to work 3 jobs AT ONCE in the US and Europe?
I understand you were born in this mess and know no other way but there is a better way,
Your argument is that people need to continue living in poverty otherwise the economy would collapse, can't you see you are a slave?
A typical sales girl works from morning till night plus weekend, no overtime pay nothing, no opportunity to do other jobs for slave wages but you think it's perfectly normal?
I am not surprised a lot of Nigerians think 24hours electricity is actually impossible

LordAdam16:
Oga stop typing nonsense.

Civil service is 40 hours per week. Many salesgirls work longer hours in a week.

So if it's per hour, you should pay salesgirls more. How old are you sef?

. A canteen for example would sell food for 250-500 depending on location. That's less than $0.8-$1.3. Can you get food for that price in the developed world?

Or don't you use your brain to reason? Do you know how the economy works? In fact, do you run a business?

Bro, your problem is that you, like most Nigerians living in Nigeria don't understand the meaning of minimum wage, minimum wages are pegged at hourly rates, that means if I employ a cleaner, I would pay him/her for the 4 or 5 hours he works for me, if he works 6 hours, I would have to pay him/her overtime of 2 hours, that is how it works in the real world, that is why Nigerians in the UK/USA can work 2,3 even 4 jobs at once, remember a cleaner also has hopes and dreams, that is why we are clamoring for a young leader that understands how the world works but the youth wants to preserve this old analog system that keeps producing ghost workers, the government doesn't even know how many workers/students are in Nigeria at any one time.
SOWORE2019

ultron12345:
let me ask you. If u own a business, will u pay ur cleaner N65000. If u do so, what do u think will happen to ur products and services. The prices will increase. If everyone in the country is made to pay minimum wage, prices of goods and services increase, and when everybody earns such high minimum wage, they end up paying more for those goods and services causing inflation and crashed in naira value. This increase will not help matters, at the end of everything, the price hike will cancel out the increase, when minimum wage is N10000, rice was N100 per cup, if that wage is increased to N1million, rice will increase to N10000 per cup, what's the difference, nothing.

Ask for clarification if you don't understand what minimum wage means, it's calculated hourly, if you hire a sales girl, you pay her for the hours you can afford, that's why developed and developing world pay wages per the hour, that is why people can afford to have 2 or even 3 jobs at once abroad, when you employ a sales girl, she shouldn't work for you for 30 days and get N18,000. That is slavery,
My bad on the quote it was N125 Billion running cost for 2017 not N600B, up from N115B in 2016

I would leave you with a poem by Henry Barlow, between an African politician and his driver

"Today I did my share in building the nation.
I drove a Permanent Secretary to an important, urgent function
In fact, to a luncheon at the Vic.

The menu reflected its importance
Cold bell beer with small talk,
Then fried chicken with niceties
Wine to fill the hollowness of the laughs
Ice-cream to cover the stereotype jokes
Coffee to keep the PS awake on the return journey.

I drove the Permanent Secretary back.
He yawned many times in the back of the car
Then to keep awake, he suddenly asked,
Did you have any lunch friend?
I replied looking straight ahead
And secretly smiling at his belated concern
That I had not, but was slimming!

Upon which he said with a seriousness
That amused more than annoyed me,
Mwananchi, I too had none!
I attended to matters of state.
Highly delicate diplomatic duties you know,
And friend, it goes against my grain,
Causes me stomach ulcers and wind.

Ah, he continued, yawning again,
The pains we suffer in building the nation! So the PS had ulcers too!
My ulcers I think are equally painful
Only they are caused by hunger,
Not sumptuous lunches!

So two nation builders
Arrived home this evening
With terrible stomach pains
The result of building the nation-in different ways!"

-- Henry Barlow --

LordAdam16:
Yes, and the FG AFAIK proposed a 45k minimum wage. Which is around $125 at the real exchange rate of 360/$.

https://guardian.ng/news/govt-to-propose-n45000-wage-meets-labour-today/

This is reasonable as the 18,000 minimum wage was made when exchange rate was 150/$. Around $120.

So where is this 66,500 number coming from?

I have never seen you guys for once protest the state governors' inability to pay the 18,000 minimum wage even after the bail out from the FG. But if it's to stay online and insult other people you guys would be quick to raise your hands.

No one really thinks about this nation. Everybody is in a hurry to eat their share, stability be damned. And you guys conveniently use the politicians as scapegoats.

We all know 66,500 minimum wage is unsustainable, but you are hoping the politicians say yes. When they say yes and they aren't able to meet up, you turn around and cry foul.

Restructuring and secession are just pipe dreams with old men leading us, no Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, South South, Middle Belt politician cares about that one bit, heck if Nigeria restructures, the young would still fight to drive these old men out of power, there is no going around it. I am curious to know how you came about that, and why would you think Buhari is the best candidate? can you mention 1 APC manifesto that has been realized that makes them deserve another term? a very healthy 75 years old man probably spends 7 hours maximum awake in a day, Buhari on the other hand is sickly so a maximum of 4 hours, Nigeria needs a young dynamic leader and crusader that is why I would be voting for Sowore. Nigerian's don't even realize there was nothing like journalism until Sahara reporters came in, for example James Ibori is also the publisher of The Independent Newspapers Ltd lol. We are telling the youth to contest their LGA, Senatorial district, Governorship but the youth are still fighting for these old men, are they not madhuh?

fiizznation:
I kinda agree with some points you raise up there. The killings are getting too much. Boko haram killing here and there, "herdsmen" also killing with reckless abandoned. But the question I will continue to ask wailers like yourself is this; who do you think should succeed buhari in 2019? Is it Atiku, makarfi, Donald duke, Sule lamido, fayose or kwankwaso? Name that credible person that you think will perform better than buhari. PDP did 16yrs there and what did they do? Absolutely nothing!!! The buhari gov't is just 3yrs old and everyone is expecting some miraculous wonders from him. The man isn't a prophet or angel.

Buhari might have performed woefully(his scorecard is still better than Jonathan's scorecard), but I still insist, the oldman is the best option we currently have for now which is very unfortunate. Anyway I'm still waiting to see a candidate that have what it takes to get my vote in 2019, whether he is a xtian, Muslim or pagan, I don't care. As long as he is sound, credible and competent, I will sideline buhari and vote for him.

I thought sowore was an option, but after reading his contradicted, childish and silly manifesto, I only shook my head.

Buhari is still the best option we have!!!

rainylad:
The guy is actually right!!..ask yourself how consistent the government all all levels had been at paying even the current minimum wage..

Leave your idealistic world and face reality..reeling out the amoount politicians corner for themselves will not translate to actual payment for workers as at when due...Nigeria is a sick country, and you all should realise that.

There is no money to pay workers $190 per month? If the government was white and pays the Nigerian workers $50 that is currently paid, we would all scream racism, It costs over N600 Billion to run NASS, and there is no inflation, Sowore was on a radio station and the presenter asked him if Nigeria can really have 24hrs electricity, stop parroting this 'government can't afford it'' nonsense, there is enough money to spend $3Billion looking for fuel, $1Billion to buy jets etc, abeg fight for your fellow Nigerians

ultron12345:
anyone that understands secondary school economics will know this is a futile mission. Firstly, the government can't afford it, secondly, Increasing the minimum wage will lead to inflation and a reduction in the value of naira. For example, if u were buying a cup of garri at N100 when minimum wage is N10000, then u should be ready to buy that cup at N1000 if the minimum wage is increased to N100000. Everything will cancel out each other, there will be no advantages, only numerous disadvantages.

What they should clamour for instead is the increase in the value of the natural such that even the wage is reduces to N10000, that N10000 will be able to buy what N100000 could buy before.

And again, it will do nothing more than increasing our recurrent expenditure.

You don't expect Biggie to turn their reality entertainment show to a religious show for viewers, we have lots of religious channels where one can watch people speaking, preaching, dancing, falling and laughing in tongues.

Owing the fact that the show is nothing without its viewers and the voters, they don't want to loose viewers because most of their viewers might have different religious beliefs, while some might be atheists, hence their lack of religious activities.

That's a business strategy and it's clear, we should be free from religious superstitious bondage, everything must not be spiritual for us, we should think straight for ones.. I'm not supporting or celebrating immorality, i'm only trying to let you know that it's very very wrong to quickly conclude and believe that one's success is spiritual, it's wrong. Please understand the concept of the show, I maybe wrong thou.
