Politics / Candid Opinion On The Hate Campaign By The Ruling Party by stagger911(m): 1:48am On Mar 13, 2015 |
I've been watching the series of Political ads' and documentaries on Tv and I've noticed that 90% of the ads placed in the media by the ruling party has a sole purpose - to stir up hatred among Nigerians and also play along ethnic lines and demonise the candidature of General Buhari. The PDP said Buhari promoted post election violence in 2011 yet nothing was done about it, he wasn't charged, arrested, reported to the ICC. An effective govt and Commander-in-Chief would act accordingly. They keep airing documentaries about corrupt people yet they arrest nobody. President Jonathan would go the South West and say Buhari arrested your brother but won't state the offence the person committed. He would also go to the South East and say the same thing...I wonder if the guilty are supposed to be roaming the streets. How can a sitting President gather this intel on Opposition leaders and instead of him to prosecute them, he airs this data on the social media? Doesn't this display the height of cluelessness? It shows that you are either lying or incompetent. How can a man kneel in front of pastors this week and then bows before traditionalists (Yoruba Obas) the next week asking for the same thing? Yet you accuse Buhari of being a religious fanatic. I am also of the view that the Office of the First Lady should be scrapped because not only is it unconstitutional, Dame Patience Jonathan has abused what that office stands for. She is neither an elected officer nor an official of government but she moves in a convoy of government vehicles, led by a siren-blasting pilot car meandering menacingly through clogged traffic to ensure the smooth passage of Madam's convoy. She has a retinue of aides and press crew and a good number of security details waiting on her in the office and at home, distinct from those of the elected chief executive. She has a knack for demonising her husband's opponents and recently in a Presidential campaign in Kogi State, described GMB in this crude manner. I quote her verbatim... “Wetin him (Buhari) dey find again? Him dey drag with him pickin mate. Old man wey no get brain, him brain don die pata pata,” she said in pidgin English. This is a First Lady that said before a crowd that those shouting the mantra of Change are not serious and that as a matter of fact they should be stoned anywhere they shout Change! I thought it was a joke until the video went viral. The next one was when she spoke dispassionately about how her husband should be praised and thanked for improving the welfare of the menacing Almajiri kids in Northern Nigeria but she then went astray by insensitively and inconsiderately saying that the Northerners are fond of bearing children with reckless abandon and throwing them on the streets to fend for themselves. She went further to say such things don't happen in the part of Nigeria you come from, that was tactless. This isn't an elegant language to be used by any lady not to mention the First Lady and certainly not about a former Head of State. Perhaps they could stop attacking GMB and give Nigerians concrete reasons why they should be re-elected. #Myhonestopinion. |
Politics / Lessons In Ad Hominem: Burdens Of A GEJ Supporter. by stagger911(m): 10:15pm On Feb 21, 2015 |
If OBJ criticises the President, he will say, "he is a frustrated old fool who is only miserable because he can no longer control the President". And I mutter to myself, "so, at least, OBJ is not the cause of the President's cluelesness." If Buhari talks about change, he will say, "ehhm, how can an old man be talking about change"? If Oby Ezekwesili berates the President's handling of the Chibok saga, he will shout, "look at her." "See how she goes on low cut like a man." No wonder she can't stay under any man's roof". If IBB so much as muse about the incompetence of the President, he will claim, "these ex generals, they are only interested in the oil blocks". If Soludo warns about the financial mismanagement of the Govt, he will allege, "Prof. is only looking for a way to be relevant in Government again". If Mbaka criticizes the President, he will scream, "how can a priest be partisan"? Then, I asked him, "but when he prayed for Dame, he was being non partisan". Abi? If Soyinka writes about the flagrant impunity of the executive, he will exclaim, "too much book has affected Wole". "Burden of conscience." "Leap of faith". What's the meaning of all that grammar? Governance is a lot more difficult than literary analysis". If Osinbajo talks about the manifesto of APC, he will say, "are we even sure he is a real pastor"? How can a pastor follow an Islamist? Haba! #moral. Criticize us. We are coming for you. 1 Like |

Nigerians are so superstitious, they must make a connection to the spiritual realm with everything. When the skelewu dance was trending, some said it was demonic. Now they're saying Shoki is the name of a Chinese demon god. MC Galaxy should be prepared cos very soon, Sekem will be the next evil thing in Nigeria. Smh. Religion / The True Meaning Of LENT by stagger911(m): 6:47pm On Feb 18, 2015 |
The time has now come in the Church year for the solemn observance of the great central act of history, the redemption of the human race by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In the Roman Rite, the beginning of the forty days of penance is marked with the austere symbol of ashes which is used in today's liturgy. The use of ashes is a survival from an ancient rite according to which converted sinners submitted themselves to canonical penance. The Alleluia and the Gloria are suppressed until Easter. Abstinence from eating meat is to be observed on all Fridays during Lent. This applies to all persons 14 and older. The law of fasting on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday applies to all Catholics from age 18 through age 59. During a normal Ash Wednesday mass you will hear the words —‘dust you are, and to dust you shall return’ or even ‘ashes to ashes, dust to dust’. These words are also part of the funeral ritual. Why this somber reminder about our mortality? Well for the very good reason that we will one day go to meet our Maker, ready or not, and it would be better to be ready, than not! The reminder of our mortality is meant to help us renounce our immorality, to repent of our sins, and as the old Southern sign bluntly said—‘Get right with God, or get left by God’. Unfortunately, in our current culture we would like short-cut salvation--- forgiveness without repentance, salvation without a change of life, grace without gratitude or a change in attitude. In a God-forsaken life, there may even be an attempt to atone for one’s own sins. We like to say “let me make it up to you”, but alas that is seldom possible, even with ordinary mistakes, and totally impossible if we are talking about sin. One of the most powerful movies I have seen in years is the Oscar nominated film -‘Atonement’. It is a truly post-modern film, all about a young girl with a vivid imagination who is rather jealous of her elder sister and her relationship with her boyfriend who works on the English estate where the girls live, but who is ‘beneath the station of the girl’s family’. It is a typical class clash English drama in some ways, but there is much more too it. For the younger sister Briony would like to have this young man for herself, but when she is spurned, and something goes terribly wrong on the estate (a teenage girl is raped) Briony imagines that she saw the young lad doing it, she accuses him, and he is carted off to jail, ruining her elder sister’s relationship and hopes. The rest of the movie is consumed with the tale of atonement, or shall we say attempted do it yourself atonement. Briony becomes a nurse during WWI, thinking she can work her sin off by good deeds. She attempts reconciliation with her sister, but this does not work. She attempts to wash her hands of the affair, but this does not work. She writes a clever novel in which there is a happier ending to the story than there was in real life, ‘to make amends’ ‘to make it better’ as she says, but alas, the sin is still not atoned for. Like Lady MacBeth trying to get the blood off her hands from a murder and crying out in the night ‘out out darn spot’, there is, and can be no self-atonement! Let me be perfectly clear---neither good intentions, nor good efforts, nor good deeds can atone for sin—only repenting, turning to God who has atoned for sin in the death of his Son Jesus, and receiving forgiveness from Him can break the endless cycle of futile and fatal attempts at self-justification and self- atonement. It is more than fitting that at the beginning of Lent we would repent, in reminder that at the end of Lent our means of forgiveness shows up in the person of Jesus, and through his atoning death on the cross. Only God in Christ can not merely forgive sins, but make the sinner whole. Only he has the grace which can change a sinner into a saint. So as we have the ashes imposed we remember our mortality and our immorality and realize that ‘tempus fugit’ and there is need that we get right with God before we go ‘gentle into that good night’ as Dylan Thomas put it. In the ancient church, Lent was a time for new converts to be instructed for baptism and for believers caught in sin to focus on repentance. In time, all Christians came to see Lent as a season to be reminded of their need for penitence and to prepare spiritually for the celebration of Easter. Part of this preparation involved the Lenten “fast,” giving up something special during the six weeks of Lent (but not on Sundays, in some traditions.) Historically, many Protestants rejected the practice of Lent, pointing out, truly, that it was nowhere required in Scripture. Some of these Protestants were also the ones who refused to celebrate Christmas, by the way. They wanted to avoid some of the excessive aspects of Catholic penitence that tended to obscure the gospel of grace. These Protestants saw Lent, at best, as something completely optional for believers, and, at worst, as a superfluous Catholic practice that true believers should avoid altogether. N/B Let me note, at this point, that if you think of Lent as a season to earn God’s favor by your good intentions or good works, then you’ve got a theological problem. God’s grace has been fully given to us in Christ. We can’t earn it by doing extra things or by giving up certain other things in fasting. If you see Lent as a time to make yourself more worthy for celebrating Good Friday and Easter, then perhaps you shouldn’t keep the season until you’ve grown in your understanding of grace. If, on the contrary, you see Lent as a time to grow more deeply in God’s grace, then you’re approaching Lent from a proper perspective. Some segments of Protestantism did continue to recognize a season of preparation for Easter, however. Their emphasis was not so much on penitence and fasting as an intentional devotion to God. I can’t claim to have had any mystical experiences during Lent, but I have found that fasting from something has helped me focus on God. It has also helped me to look ahead to Good Friday and Easter, thus appreciating more deeply the meaning of the cross and the victory of the resurrection. Before I began honoring Lent, Good Friday and Easter always seemed to rush by before I could give them the attention they deserved. Now I find myself much more ready to meditate upon the depth of Christ’s sacrifice and to celebrate his victory over sin and death on Easter. So, as we enter the season of Lent, I am grateful for the saints who have gone before me, some of whom discovered the blessings of giving up something in Lent, while others grew in their faith by adding a Lenten discipline. No matter what you do during this Lenten season, I pray that God will draw us closer to him, and prepare us for a fresh experience of Good Friday and Easter. May the peace and blessings of our Lord, be with You! 1 Like

Religion / The Synod On Same Sex Relationships by stagger911(m): 11:53am On Oct 16, 2014 |
The media has been awash with the news that the Vatican has finally legalised the homosexual union at the Synod. I want to clarify some issues here. First of all, The Synod of Bishops, in the Roman Catholic Church, is an advisory body for the Pope. It is "a group of bishops who have been chosen from different regions of the world and meet together at fixed times to foster closer unity between the Roman Pontiff and bishops, to assist the Roman Pontiff with their counsel in the preservation and growth of faith and morals and in the observance and strengthening of ecclesiastical discipline, and to consider questions pertaining to the activity of the Church in the world". A preliminary report written by bishops during a Vatican synod said homosexuals had "gifts and qualities to offer" and this has been miscontrued by our protestants and gullible catholics to mean that the Church has finally moved on with the times. The report does not challenge the Church's long-held opposition to same-sex marriage, but some gay rights groups hailed it as a breakthrough. More than 200 bishops have been taking part in the synod since 5th October. It was convened by Pope Francis to debate controversial issues such as abortion, contraception, homosexuality and divorce. Monday's report, issued half-way through the two-week meeting, said: "Homosexuals have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community and everyone is chanting the usual “Anti-Christ ish”. The Catholic Church doesn't condemn or discriminate against people who are gay or experiencing same sex attraction. They do have gifts and qualities to offer to the Christian community. Homosexuals are encouraged and advised to live a life of chastity and abstinence....which is what all unmarried people are called to do regardless of their sexual orientation. If someone is attracted to someone else and doesn't act on the feelings, it's not a sin. If a guy is attracted to another guy but he doesn't act on his feelings, he's still Homosexual but he hasn't committed any sin or done anything wrong. The Catechism of the Catholic Church states that Homosexuality is a cross that some must bear (CCC, 2357-2359). The bible explains in details about Jeaus Christ reminding his disciples that he did not come for the righteous but the sinners. Jesus Christ himself showed us many examples when he refused to condemn Mary Magdalene, dined with the tax collectors, and even extended his friendship to the Samaritans (Be reminded that Jesus was a Jew) Funny enough, I hear fornicators, adulterers, thieves, cohabiting couples (who occupy our hostels and homes) and all sorts of sinners judge homosexuals and I wonder why they pick on gay people. If I die fornicating with someone I'm not married to, won't I end up in hell? We are all sinners and we are all called for a daily repentance likewise the gays and that is the church's stand. The church will never accept or support gay practice or marriage but will always give room for repentance and not judgement and which is solely GOD's responsibility. If Pope Francis has found himself unworthy to judge the sexual orientation of some people, who am I?

The real scoop on the ATM charges re-introduction: The charges were never stopped, just transferred to your ATM card issuing bank. If you use another bank's ATM, your bank pays. If you use it 10 times in a month your bank pays the other bank N1000 for your use alone! So the Bankers committee decided (after considering all the costs they incur on this plus cost of maintaining ATMs etc.) that a N65 charge will apply to the customer if s/he uses the ATM of another bank MORE THAN 3 TIMES IN A MONTH. There is no charge if use is thrice or less. Now i can already see how our naija folks will beat this charge... |

Religion / Re: Catholics: Come In Let's Discuss. by stagger911(m): 7:34am On Jul 31, 2014 |
RoyalRoy: I do not do confessions the usual way.....non at all. My confession goes straight to God. The Catechism of the Catholic Church defines purgatory as a "purification, so as to achieve the holiness necessary to enter the joy of heaven," which is experienced by those "who die in God’s grace and friendship, but still imperfectly purified" (CCC 1030). It notes that "this final purification of the elect . . . is entirely different from the punishment of the damned" (CCC 1031). The purification is necessary because, as Scripture teaches, nothing unclean will enter the presence of God in heaven (Rev. 21:27) and, while we may die with our mortal sins forgiven, there can still be many impurities in us, specifically venial sins and the temporal punishment due to sins already forgiven. Two Judgments When we die, we undergo what is called the particular, or individual, judgment. Scripture says that "it is appointed for men to die once, and after that comes judgment" (Heb. 9:27). We are judged instantly and receive our reward, for good or ill. We know at once what our final destiny will be. At the end of time, when Jesus returns, there will come the general judgment to which the Bible refers, for example, in Matthew 25:31-32: "When the Son of man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate them one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats." In this general judgment all our sins will be publicly revealed (Luke 12:2–5). Augustine said, in The City of God, that "temporary punishments are suffered by some in this life only, by others after death, by others both now and then; but all of them before that last and strictest judgment" (21:13). It is between the particular and general judgments, then, that the soul is purified of the remaining consequences of sin: "I tell you, you will never get out till you have paid the very last copper" (Luke 12:59). |

Peter's faith was so steadfast that Jesus called Peter “the rock”, the unwavering disciple on whose shoulders Jesus would build his church. On this very location - Vatican Hill, Peter had been crucified and buried. The early christians built a small shrine over his tomb. As Christianity spread, the shrine got bigger, layer upon layer, culminating in this colossal basilica. The entire Catholic Church had been built literally upon Saint Peter's tomb. #EPIC 1 Like

Lovethywilbedon: You post here made it appear as if women are sidelined in the Catholic Church, but that is not true. Just as some positions are reserved for men, there are some positions too that no man born of a woman can occupy. They include [1]The position of An "Abbess". This is the head of a female monastries, and is the highest position a woman can attain in the Catholic church. This position is almost equivalent to that of a bishop. They make use Crusier, ie the shephards staff just like a bishop. They have many Nuns under their care just as a bishop have priest under his care. You have not seen them because you have not being to a female Monastry. [2] Superior Generals of women Religious Congregations. Just as priests are under a bishop, a woman who is The SUPERIOR GENERAL of any women's Religious Congregation is under no one except the Pope, or a Cardinal who the Pope deligates the office of regulating the activities of Religious institutions. [3.] "The Mother" of a Convent. I think this is the one you cited. No matter what happens in this life, a man CAN NEVER OCCUPY ANY OF THE ABOVE MENTIONED POSTS IN THE CATHOLIC CHURCH. Now down to the parish level, we have female parish adminstrator, female Parish Council Chiarman, female Cathedral adminstrators, female Catechists and the list goes on and on. This feminist idea that women are not Important in the Catholic Church should be done away with. Just as women played very important role in the ministry of Jesus Christ except that of being Apostles, so do women play ALL THE IMPORTANT ROLES in THE CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST EXCEPT that of being PRIESTS and BISHOPS who are the present day representatives of the Apostles.
