Addressing a cross section of journalists in his office yesterday, the PDP candidate at the just concluded senatorial elections in Lagos West, Otunba Segun Adewale opined that the reason for his involvement in politics is due to the high level of poverty he has seen in the land and the need for someone to stand up to correct this anomaly in the society. He also stated categorically that Nigeria is only responsible to few individuals and not the general populace as seen in many other countries.

The senatorial candidate who is currently training 20 youths from Lagos West Senatorial District (2 per Local government) when asked on the assurances of getting a job for the participants at the training stated that the world's economy does not favor what you study, but what you know as service industries have become the order of the day. "These graduates will be trained on what they should know and do to become relevant in the world today".

He also advised other graduates who are not beneficiary of this scheme to look out for problems they can solve in the country. "The more problem you can solve, the more money you can make. Solving more complex society problems bring much more money".
On Nigeria's problem, he asserted that the problem of Nigeria is fundamental. "It is not about change of leadership but a change of system which involves a total overhauling of the constitution. Our situation is like using a typewriter in the 21st century for business while other businesses are looking at computers and smart devices". Part of the overhauling of the constitution also involves removing a constitutional term limit for presidents as seen with legislators. "From what I studied in geography, I know that real development takes time, within 10 to 15 years. Removing term limits means a serious government could make long term plans for development without thinking of another government coming in 4 or 8 years time to shatter all progress that must have been made".

Before concluding his media chat, he advised all youths and elites to get involve and participate more in politics as their non-participation is giving room for more illiterates and incompetent people to paddle the affairs of the nation. He also wished General Buhari well for the next four years as the president of the nation.

Yesterday in Maitama, a good friend of mine was intimating me on the power struggle and cold war brewing in the APC between the Tinubu led ACN and some nPDP led by Saraki and from what he said, it may snowball into serious cracks.

The power struggle is for the Senate Presidency. Nigerians may wish to know why Tinubu wants to influence the choice at all cost. The game for 2019 has commenced since all available indications point to the fact that Buhari would not seek a second term.

There are four blocs in APC, which are the Tinubu led ACN, Buhari led CPC, ANPP, nPDP and one strong person in Atiku. Of the 4 + 1 blocs, only 2 currently control things. Tinubu and Buhari hold sway. The exit of Sherif crippled the ANPP, there is no unity in nPDP because Kwankwaso has a separate agenda.

From his analysis, Tinubu is plotting to prevent Saraki from using the position of Senate President and the power of the National Assembly to build a cohesive national platform for 2019. Tinubu wants Tambuwal for President in 2019, while the Buhari group prefer El-rufai. Saraki, Atiku, Kwankwaso are all interested in becoming the president of Nigeria by 2019 as well.

At the moment, the CPC faction of the APC have the President, ACN has the Vice President, ANPP is rumoured to have been allocated the slot of SGF, nothing juicy for nPDP and Atiku yet. Saraki is therefore using Senate President as bargain for nPDP.

Tinubu got advantage of reciprocity against Buhari for 2019 or fight 1 enemy. It would be difficult for Buhari to fight 2 camps if Saraki gets the Senate Presidency. Tinubu’s reported withdrawal of interest in Akume for Ahmed Lawan is part of the all-cost desperation to deny Saraki of the Senate Presidency.

Meanwhile, Saraki has the backing of Amaech’s financial war chest as well as that of the nPDP except Kwankwaso and Wamakko who are not committed. Definitely all about interest. Tinubu’s support for Lawan may include a bargain for Deputy Senate President for his wife, meaning the South West may not get the Speakership of the House of Assembly. Tinubu the sharp man.

While all these are going on, the PDP who are now the minority in the Senate can help to install Saraki to spite Tinubu and make APC 2019 projection very clumsy. With 42 Senators under PDP out of 109 Senate seats in the next Assembly, PDP will determine the next Senate President.

The option of Lawan if all the APC Senators were to buy it, makes the faint hope and thought of David Mark’s return non-existence. But then, anything is possible in politics and I would be watching with keen interest on June 6 to see who get elected as the new Senate President.

With the way the cold war is going, Tinubu has elected to be a spoiler than to be the king maker. His reasoning is simple. Deny me my choice, I deny you Senate President.

Meanwhile, I decided to watch General Buhari this morning on channels TV and i must say I WAS NOT inspired.

In the course of the program, Grandpa Buhari referred to Prof. Osibanjo's wife as "Mrs. Professor Osinbajo". That was his 6th gaffe in the run up to the general election. What a candidate!!!

Thank you President Goodluck Jonathan for approving the main report of the 2014 National Conference for onward implementation.

It is a clear fact and i strongly believe the CONFAB report when implemented will definitely go a long way in re-defining our system of governance and grant to an extent autonomy to component states.

The implementation of the CONFAB will make Nigeria a great nation. This is the positive change and not the negative Buhari's APC change.

This as a matter of fact is enough reason Nigerians should opt for continuity. GEJ started the whole CONFAB process, it's credited to his administration, so he would most likely start implementation if given a chance to continue as President, because it's his brainchild.

The enemies of Nigeria can go to hell with their evil and negative change.

Good news once again. Like I would keep saying, Transformation is always positive unlike Change that could be either Negative or positive.

Slow and steady, we are getting there.

Mushin and Oshodi areas of Lagos came to a halt today as the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Candidate for the state, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, took his campaign to the trading communities in Ladipo, Idi-Oro, Oshodi and Ikeja.

He promised to improve the sanitary conditions in the Ladipo Auto Spare Parts Market and the welfare of its occupants, by building a pedestrian bridge at the Toyota Bus-Stop access of the market, as well as establishing a system of overnight waste management.

Agbaje’s entourage, which included his Running Mate, Alhaja Safurat Abdulkarim, had been met with shouts of: “PDP! Power!”

The crowd of admirers, comprising cyclists and traders, flowed through the Matori area and blocked the Apapa-Oshodi expressway, with many of them chanting:

“You don win!”

“Make una no share money, we go vote for una!”

“No more Tinubu!”

Addressing the mammoth crowd of cheering traders at Ladipo auto market, Agbaje said that from May 29, they would witness an end to the era of impunity that they had suffered at the hand of the Lagos State Government, with incessant shutting of their business place over different excuses.

“I am a business man and I want to assure you that I know what it means to close your market at the slightest opportunity.

He equally condemned the imposition of a Babaloja (Market leader) on the market which is dominated by Igbos.

“I want to assure you that we shall reverse this and stop multiple taxations because it is against the principle of natural justice,” he said.

He lamented that for all the revenue the market generated for the state, it lacked government presence.

The President-General of the Ladipo Central Executive Auto Dealers’ Association, Comrade Ikechukwu Animalu, told Agbaje that the sprawling market hosted about 5,000 shops with over 20,000 occupants.

Animalu complained that traders operated under a harsh regime of levies and charges imposed by the state government and the council, with no commensurate services.

Agbaje said that a PDP government under him would discharge its responsibility of maintaining sanitation in the market, instead of blaming Ladipo businesses for improper waste disposal.

“The way it is going to work is that when Ladipo traders are closing in the evening, the cleaners would be resuming to clean up the place in preparation for the following morning’s business,” he said. “That is the way it works in other places in the world. And I see no reason why we cannot achieve it here.”

Agbaje and his team had stopped over at the Idi-Oro electronics complex, where he addressed the traders there.

Leaders of Ladipo complained that non-indigenes were being denied their Permanent Voters’ Cards by agents of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) colluding with the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Acknowledging the crucial value that the market contributed to the Lagos economy, Agbaje said it would be accorded its pride of place under a PDP government.

He said he knew that the traders needed a pedestrian bridge for the safety of the patrons and users of the market.

He also promised to build toilets for Ladipo Market.

“It is not proper that Ladipo should be without a toilet,” he said. “We will provide toilet facilities for Ladipo and other markets in the state.”

According to him, the neglect the market suffered manifested in its bad access roads, a problem that would receive attention from the PDP regime in the state.
