We have a structure that's set up to exploit certain people's resources. As long as these people keep allowing their resource to flow unchallenged the others are happy to benefit something, no matter how little or how detrimental it is to their own long term prosperity.
We just replicate needless cost across 36 at various level. Appointees, lawmakers, events, low quality universities etc are all examples of such wasteful recurrent expenses being replicated. We need to promote IGR prioritization from all states. For a state to exist it must meet certain IGR benchmark. This will help all those fighting for new states know the main goal of states.

Truth234:
Looting is our major problem. Even though it is basic, it is complex. For instance, monthly forex demand under Obasanjo was below $1 billion, due to lack of broad industrialization and low commerce, when compared to recent time.

However, Nigeria was generating $105/b on the average for about 5 years under GEJ, with a low forex demand when compared to what we are currently experiencing. The question is why was there no diversification plan, infrastructure to support growth and encourage foreign investments?

Yet, there was no savings. In 2013, Nigeria generated about $33 billion (Q2) from crude oil, only $2 billion made it to the foreign reserves. Another hiding truth is the fact that GEJ administration actually used about $26 billion to support lower exchange rate in 2013, even though oil price was at a record high, there was not succinct policy for economic growth. That was one of the reasons we were able to deceive JPmorgan into listing Nigeria bond on emerging market Index. It was a bubble created by oil boom but burst when oil prices plunged.

Presently, Nigeria monthly forex demand stood at $4.8 billion and $1.2 billion on a weekly basis, whereas the nation is generating between $600 million-$700 million weekly.
We exhausted $26bn in subsidizing $ rate and some comedians want Buhari to maintain it even when our earnings has dropped.

Are the almajiris not part of the northern population that will participate in the power consumption as opposed to the highly industrialised hardworking "educated southerners"? Otherwise, what actually accounts for their high power consumption as opposed to ur low power requirements?

The bad thing is to collect loan and use it to pay internal debt

If it will be use on infrastructure and other social amenities that will generate job at the long run

Then it's good

If FG takes $30bn loan to build 2 Dangote refinery then NO PROBLEM. Taking it to lavish and loot is the problem.

Choi, see contradiction. So the north has suddenly become more industrialised requiring more power than the south? So, the domestic power consumption of the 'poor' northerners is now higher than that of the 'rich' Southerners. So the "almajiris in the north" now require more power than "the hardworking industrialists in the south"? I just wonder how some of u will lie blatantly, then go to bed and sleep comfortably. How for God's sake will LAGOS, RIVERS, AND DELTA STATES back off from power generation because NORTH WILL CONSUME MUCH OF THE GENERATED POWER?
Pls, how are u comfortable with statement like this?
Ur body no dey do u one kind?
As I have said, left for u lots, nothing should go to the north, even the electricity it actively contributes in its generation.
Hehehe, the fact remains that u can only make those senseless and illogical noise on social media cos even ur representatives at the fed level dare not come up with outright trash like this fit only for trash can. Boy, relax. It is quite obvious u have issues with comprehension, now let me break it a bit further. The power from the power stations in the north is capable of supplying the north 24hr. But the problem is that such power is not consumed in the north alone and other thermal stations like egbim, sapele etc are merely complementary but the bulk of the power comes from hydro stations. Now, assuming the south is cut off, the available power is sufficient for the north alone.
If this is too difficult for you to understand, then I suggest u enrol for basic English class, cos I can't help.
Now, do u know why u are trying to hide behind aggression? Ur argument lacks any reasonable substance and the only way out is to be on the offensive, yet these are the people that will jump at the slightest argument and start shouting about education upandan. Education is not about bragging, it is actually about politeness, diplomacy, knowledge, getting what u want from the society, respect for others etc.
Boy, go and address ur problems and stop placing them at the doorsteps of the north cos the north did not in anyway stops u from applying ur 'education' to ur advantage. With meagre allocations to northern states, capital projects are still being executed while ur 'educated' governors with fat allocations can't even pay salaries despite fed govt bailout, yet the north is the problem.
Stop exergerating facts to win argument.
The power plants in the north can't handle Abuja, Jos and Kaduna alone if the south is cut off. If you follow my other posts here you will gain some insight. It may interest u to kno dat Lagos, Delta, and Rivers dropped ideas of independent power plants IPPs in the past cos what they generated ends up in other region(the north).

So I read an article on that which detailed the progress made in trying to supply power to Aba and making it an industrial hub in Nigeria, which I think is a laudable project.

But I also read that despite the agreements with the federal government, the privatization of PHCN caught up with the project and the progress in Aba was sold to other groups or thereabout.

Well, Jonathan was in power when all these happened in 2014/15 so I'm not sure how this concerns the North unless I'm missing something which you might want to point out.
The whole thing boils down to a law that mandates power generation that's beyond certain threshold to be pumped into the National Grid. Once the power is gone into the National grid, the gencos can't dictate where the power is distributed to. This particular rule means what Nnaji has generated with the intention of selling to his neighbor in Aba and environs, must be relinguished or sold to the controllers( northerners by reason of federal character in agencies like TCN, NERB ) of the national grid. The north have generally opposed the ammendment of the law that forces large volume of power to be distributed via the National Grid because it favours them in the sense that it force the south to carry them along in their electrification drive. This law has forced Delta, Rivers and Lagos to put a stop to IPPs in the past cos any power they generate will 99.9% likely not be sold back to them or their indigenes. Get it ?
The popular alternative to this arrangement of pumping IPP energy into the grid is an off-grid arrangement.

Are u also aware that one of the largest power generating stations is located in the north? I hope u know the power stations in the north are fully sufficient for the north alone? Or are u telling me that kainji, shiroro, mambila and jebba hydroelectric power stations can't provide 24hr supply to the north even at low output? Boy, the north is not holding u back for anything. Stop blaming the north for ur problems. The north has its peculiar problems affecting it but stop all these rubbish about the north holding u back bla bla bla.
U make noise about how the north is poor due to this and that, then brag about how u are rich in the south because of ur education bla bla bla, only for u to turn again and say the north is still holding u back, how do u reconcile this very illogical self contradictory claims?
Left for u lots, the northerners should not even occupy any position in this country so that u have more reasons to talk more about poverty in the north. Up till now, the north has not filled its positions in the civil service and even some of its slots are still filled by these southerners who claim north thereby occupying northern slots and it still remains on records that way. Imagine, Chinedu, "from Kebbi State" or Akpan "from Kaduna State", how? This is as funny as Tanko "from Imo state". grin Very funny but that is how it looks. About 95% of fed govt agencies in the south are occupied by the southerners but the same southerners compete favourably with northerners in northern based fed govt agencies. Some of these media propaganda are gradually opening our eyes to many things we are being deprived in this country and by God grace, proper enquiries will be conducted to set some of these things right, just a matter of time.
Meanwhile, stop blaming the north for ur problems.
Stop talking trash if you have nothing to say. I don't know where to start educating ur ignorant äss. Are you saying the North needs less power than the south or that you guys av 24hr supply? You think I av not been to the north? You are obviously a kid.

fine.

So let's assume that what you've just posted is entirely true.

Nigeria is on the world terrorist map according to you, whatever that means, how in specific terms does this affect the IGR of your state?

How does the violence in the North Eastern part of Nigeria affect the way governors in the South Eastern and Sout southern part of the country spend their allocations from the FG in the development or otherwise of their respective states?

How does Boko haram, killing people in the North east translate to Niger Delta Avengers blowing up pipes and reducing Nigeria's crude oil income?

Does terrorism in the NE equal to death in the SE?

Did Shekau tie your governor's brain so as to prevent him from thinking of creative ways to generate funds for his state's development?

The North is largely uneducated, is this the reaason why students fail en masse in the South? Or is this the reason why ASUU goes on strike in the nation's universities periodically?

How exactly is the North dragging Nigeria back, i'd like to know.

Oh, you also said that the North contributes nothing to the nation's economy. This is laughable.

How much food crop does your zone contribute to the Nation's foodbasket?

The only major contributor to the nation's economy in direct terms is crude oil. And this is being sabotaged by...guess who? The southerners, not the northerners.
The power example is one good example. Stop saying the backwardness of the north doesn't affect what the south does.

You are trying to educate a man who finds great comfort in ignorance.. The north has a culture problem and that is serious. They produce highest number of almajiri in the world.., highest number of uneducated females in the world, at a time, polio that has been eradicated even in war torn areas was prevalent there. The problems there are immense, yet they seem unaware. . But then they have a stranglehold on power and so can build dams, roads, hospitals and all that. The thing there is that the north has crafted a federal structure that has made everybody dependent on oil proceeds. If oil dries up today, folks are very likely to start eating themselves tomorrow up north. . Thats why post Lugards Nigeria, i cant envisage a future better than that of their cousins in Niger republic. The human resources and cultural sophistication needed for rapid urbanization is just not there..
So accurate man.
They are too pre-occupied with winning the democracy game(a game of number). They go for quantity instead of quality.

Sharrap. What have the "regions that think outside the box" done for themselves apart from criminally laying claims to exclusive ownership of the nation's resources?
Are u aware Barth Nnaji the former power power minister floated a power Genco with capacity of 141 MW but is being compelled to release it to the National grid and reliquishing the right to controll where the power is used? That's a typical example of the North holding back the South. Lagos, Rivers, and Delta have been discouraged from generating power (IPPs) in the past too.
