I tend to disagree with you on your point -'not requiring or relying on' depicts independency.
Every human will definitely REQUIRE one bit of something(information,idea,suggestion, support E.T.C from another, each passing day.
Requiring doesn't make you less independent it just simply establish the fact that 'no Man is an island' which infact simply means No one is self-sufficient.We all need to Rely on someone at some point in our lives.
Be it the:
Employer of labour/Employee
Parent /Child
Government /Citizens
Lawyer/Client/Banker/Customer
Man/Woman

Indepency is not measured by the richness of your pocket to get all you need, (not possible though,as money in itself is also a means to getting something but doesn't get all things)
or physical strength.
It is measured by,but not limited to,your
attitude,mayb thought as well through which,you know when to Require/Rely on and when not to and applying it to all areas of Life.Such as financial,morals, social E.T.C

Independency is not limited to one angle just as this opinion of mine MAY NOT be Universal.

Independent actually means what i wrote up there...if you read my other posts,you will notice i said also that one cannot be independent in that context as we all require people in one way or the other to succeed.

There are varying definitions of independence and can be interpreted based on their definition.

In a relationship,both partners are dependent on the other for certain things...but i think what piques my male folk is the unwillingness of some females to work hard and achieve their success instead claiming that which their partner has - especially material things ( when he's just the bf).
To some people,some things are giveable while to others they aren't

An advice to the ladies - work hard,achieve success...trust me you'll be respected and then you can get what you want without relying on any man.

People can be independent according to my defintion of efforts & actions...

Some words have different meanings depending on how you choose to interpret it...

Independent can depict self-governance,self-sufficience,self-sustaining.

We could say Dangote or Adenuga were self-made but is that really possible in the context you're talking about?
No...it simply means achieving success/prominence based on one's efforts or actions.

Independent - Not subject to control by others
Not requiring or relying on something/someone else

An independent woman is one who possesses the aforementioned character.
