Photos:Nigerian soldiers that liberated Bama town in Borno state on the eve of presidential and National Assembly elections.

It should be recalled that Bama town was recaptured from Boko Haram insurgents on the eve of presidential and National Assembly elections by Nigerian soldiers.

The Director of Defence Information (DDI), Maj-Gen. Chris Olukolade,alongside the spokespersons of the Nigerian Army, Navy and Air Force, confirmed the news then.

Journalist Tunde Thompson was imprisoned by General Buhari's administration under the draconian Degree 4 of 1983.

Speaking with the Sun,he said:

“But when you look at it now,this is 2015,about 31 years later, I have also reflected on the matter especially when I wanted to do that rejoinder to the comment made by General Buhari that some journalists made some
demands, that the demands were not honoured and they started blackmailing them."

“I have seen that time is a healer of certain wounds because people are still asking that the
man who jailed you wants to become the president that what do I feel about it? They asked if I would vote for such a man. I want to say categorically that Buhari as the head of state at the time, didn’t order the detention of Mr. Tunde Thompson and Nduka Irabor.”

Speaking further,he said NSO took the decision to arrest him on their own.

“He never did. Even Idiagbon did not. It was the head of NSO that ordered our arrest. That was the file my colleague saw when he was brought in to see Rafindadi after I had briefed him. And that was an order that they complied
with. Buhari was not responsible for our arrest,so I do not see why at this time, people are trying to make political capital out of what happened in 1984. Apart from that, it was an issue in 2011 election."

“Between 2010 and 2011 people kept saying this over and over again. I think it’s now over 30 years, people should learn to be charitable;they should learn to forgive and let bygones be bygones especially when we know the truth about who did what. I will like to say that Buhari didn’t order my arrest, so I bear no grudge against him.”

He said Nigeria needs a person of Buhari's character to address the problem of corruption and insecurity that plague President Jonathan's administration.

“Yes, as far I am concerned now and considering the fact that there is an order that the Minister of Petroleum should not appear before the National Assembly to defend her conduct and considering the fact that the Naira had been further devalued. Now listen, in Ghana the Cedi we used to mock, the Rupee we used to mock and the Yen. The Naira is just not there again. We say revalue the Naira but they
said they cannot because we only have one commodity."

“The government has been saying a lot about agriculture. Cocoa provided the mainstay of the defunct western region under Chief Obafemi Awolowo. Groundnuts provided the mainstay of the defunct northern economy under Sir Ahmadu Bello. Have our farmlands suddenly become infertile? We have solid minerals; we have gold in Ilesa. What I am trying to say is that if we look critically,we have other commodities and if they are harnessed we will be able to say we have more than oil."

He also Gen. Buhari can not tolerate the issue of corruption among politicians if he becomes president.

“Some even seem to be too powerful. They are sacred cows and they cannot be tamed. Is that not dangerous? I believe that a person like Buhari at this time can call anybody to order
and some people are afraid of that.”

The founder and General Overseer of the Living Faith Church (Winners Chapel), Bishop David Oyedepo has ordered all his church members to attend next Sunday's service with their Permanent Voters Card.

Good job! Stephanie Linus Extended Hands Foundation assisted in the payment of hospital bills of 15 women in Kwara State living with vesicovaginal fistula(VVF).

The Foundation ensured that the women received free repair surgeries at the Kwara Specialist Hospital, Ilorin, Kwara State. The women were earlier neglected by their husbands because of the effects associated with VVF such as uncontrolled leaking of urine/having the smell of urine.

VVF is a medical/surgical condition where there is an abnormal communication between the bladder and vagina or rectum.It is mainly caused by prolonged or obstructed labour.As a result,there is inability to the control the passage of urine thereby leading to frequent leakage of urine and its associated side effects like embarrassment,smelling of urine and infections etc.

Before Stephanie's foundation assisted them,many of them
lost their jobs, their husbands, and were faced with depression.

The Foundation was praised by the First Lady of Kwara State Mrs Omolewa Ahmed who received Stephanie Linus Foundation and Diamond bank team at the State House in Ilorin.

An Ibadan based Anglican church has banned the wearing of leggings, mini skirts and topless outfits among her members to church.

An accident that happened last night at Oriyomi street in Ikeja killed a grandmother, her pregnant daughter and grandson returning from a night vigil.

It happened when a car containing a group of boys coming back from a club failed break and hit the deceased people who were on their way back from vigil.

Four Nigerians have been arrested by the Hyderabad police in India for an alleged internet fraud.

They were arrested on Saturday January 3rd alongside a woman. According to the police, a car, money and mobile phones were recovered from
them.

The fraudsters are-Peter Austin (29), Eboh Felix (26),Steffi Ebohon (24) and Uzaonicha Daniel Iwenwanne (26).The police said the men told a student named Mohd Wasiuddin via mail that he has won a lottery.Mohd was convinced by the fraudsters to deposit money for registration, processing fees,customs clearance and other expenses.

"Believing the gang members, Wasiuddin deposited about Rs. 35 lakh in different bank accounts operated from Gujarat, Rajasthan and Mumbai, only to realize later that it was fraud".

They were caught by the police via the tracing of their phone numbers call data records,email conversation and pretending to be another victim.

After surviving a kidney transplant, OJB has launched a Kidney Trust Fund, in collaboration with The Bow Tie Club, a non-profit making organization.

It is being set up to address the issue of funding of kidney disease treatment.Speaking at the launch, OJB recounted his horrible experience.

What was going through my mind was basically what was going through the minds of over 30 millions people that have kidney related problems. Honestly, when you are younger, you don’t think about death.
But for some reasons, I had to think and consider death. I considered the possibilities that it could happen.And of course, when I start considering the possibilities of dying, everything starts flashing back to me; did I do enough, what didn’t I do right, should I die now,what is going to happen to my family and business.As a result, you start to think about all these things, and the pressure of the thought begin to increase upon you, as the days go by. The psychological trauma is bigger than what you can imagine.

“ I had over 14 million people who were interested in my predicament.So, why should I give up hope of surviving. That was the lucky situation I found myself then.

I had already started working

Redeemed Christian Church Of God,where he is a pastor did not endorse him as Buhari's running mate.

According to him, he consulted the General Overseer of the church,Pastor E.A Adeboye, before accepting to be General Buhari's mate.

The Redeemed Christian Church of God, where you are a pastor, has come out to say it never
endorsed you…

I don’t think the church has ever said any such thing. Also, the church does not endorse candidates. The General Overseer of the church,Pastor Enoch Adeboye, has not said any such thing. He has not issued any statement. In any event, the RCCG as a church cannot endorse a candidate. How can a church endorse a candidate?

But did you seek Pastor Adeboye’s consent before accepting the nomination?

I serve under the GO of the RCCG as a pastor. If I am going to take any kind of action, especially an
action that involves public service, it is my duty to consult with him. It would be absolutely
irresponsible of me not to consult with him. And I have consulted with him.

Did he give you his consent?

I have consulted with Adeboye fully. I am not prepared to share with you the details of our
discussion. But be absolutely certain that I would not take these steps without properly consulting with him and that I did what was needful.

   He was found dead in his room at Enugu on the eve of  New year.He was 33yrs old.

  The retired player was a coach before his death.The cause of his death is yet to be ascertained
