I grew up with the mentality that the usual order of names is "First name Middle name Last name". The understanding then was that the First name is usually the surname, the middle is usually one's personal name which known to people and also on the birth certificate while the last name is the "other" name one bear. The order later changed to "last, first middle" with the
last and first names separated by a comma, and items are alphabetized by the last name.


Fast forward to present days! Lately, Most official forms i come across are with the order of "First name Last name".

Few weeks back, i went to a company i formally worked with (4years back) as an I.T student at ikeja, Lagos. i had an appointment with my former boss. On entering the reception room, met "sister" yemi the company secretary on her desk and exchanged pleasantries. I told her my reasons for the visit and she gave me visitor's note to fill. She wanted to put me through for some people's ignorance leads to mistake. She said "Please, your first name first and your last name follows". I then wrote down my surname as the first name and my personal name as the last name. With a smile on her face; she said "Take note from now, Gbenga is your name, it should be your first name and your surname is your last name". Wasnt even ready for that argument coz na make my former boss reason me well dey my mind. Got home later to start pondering and wondering over the "name" issue.



Infact! I had to go google but information there states different countries with their style.
In some Western countries, the surname or family name ("last name" is placed after the personal or given name ("first name".


My people! Abeg which one Nigeria adopt? First name as surname or Last name as surname

Surname first, followed by first name and then middle name.
It's like that in most forms by banks, companies etc.

I'm into a relationship which is 4yrs old and the lady is someone that i loved so so much and i even introduced her to my parent as the girl i intend to marry and from the way she treats me also, i have this deep feeling that she even loves me more than how i love her but few months ago, I just wish to tease her and i ask her if she has slept with another guy since we started dating and sincerely, i was expecting her to be angry for even asking her such question but to my surprise after asking her several time and promising her not to use it to react to her, she eventually told me that she slept with somone else and her excuse was that it was due to the fact that we actually parted for like 7months which was due to my NYSC program which the distance was far for her to pay me visit. To cut d story short.

I still love her but their is this second thought that comes to mind once in a while what if work has to take me away from her for some months when we get married, hope there will not be a repeat of such? Pls i need a serious minded person to contribute cos the trust i have for her was not like before anymore.

1. Radical Dressing: You wanna see swag? you come to any public school na there you go see where student no they tuck in their shirts. Talk of sagging and bragging na public school get am for naija. For my school then na palm we dey wear go school...stockings or whatever you call it is an abomination to our leg

2. Ruggedness : The day I shop three thunderous slap because one yeye guy make noise for our class na that day I trowey gentleness put on ruggedness. For public school you can't just be gentle.We scattered everything scatterable till I left as the Library Perfect Boy

3. Addiction To Pains: I no see a public school student who no dey shop at least two strokes of the cane in a week.Like when we dey secondary school8) we are all addicted to pains.Even to shop cane just they hungry us.If uno shop note someone go make noise and at the end of the day you end up bagging 12 strokes of the cane.

4. Sociable : Yes we guys are conversationalist... Because there is always room for mingle tingle dingle ringle. There is room to bully others in your class and sometimes you help your guys woo a girl.

5. Fun Filled: Since we are not condemned to speaking English there is a great room for fun.Like this corp member they brag say hm sabi English then na So one day I ask am may hm tell us the meaning of a sentence I framed up with yoruba origin.It goes thus: the thief was an expert in foganolism. The corp member was confused and the class laugh deliriously.
