Azura and Osssiomo power plants were constructed and working perfectly without a penny investment by the federal government versus nipp power projects that are beset with so many bottlenecks. Lcc at a time constructed their roads and maintaining it before Lagos state took it over from them. Any project that is not economically viable for the private investors to key in to should be deferred otherwise we will run into bankruptcy Dangote and private modular refineries are moving in strides Bua own is coming up strongly while the government refineries are languishing even with all the turnaround maintenance How can anyone justify additional debt burden? Madam minister just informed us that Federal Government retained revenue between January and May 2020 was N1.48 trillion and debt service was N1.25 trillion. If we continue with this trajectory, in a very short while, debt service will be higher than retained revenue. The government should just make the environment conducive for the private sector to thrive and take the back seat. They should just accept the fact that power has change hands unlike before when petro dollars still imbue government with strength and they can grand stand iwaeda: 3 Likes 1 Share |

It is wrong for you to attempt at rubbishing catfish farming because you want to promote your tilapia fish and training. It is unethical. Just state what you want say on the strong points of tilapia and move on. Some farmers' livelihood depends on what you want to start rubbishing on this platform I'm not a catfish person I'm into tree crops Thanks Alphafarms: |

Is this Tilapia fish farming really profitable? - Low FCR versus catfish; takes longer time to get to the market versus catfish; expensive to maintain a suitable habitat for them to thrive - My thought though But if one can secure a niche market - It's a great experience Thanks Alphafarms: 1 Like |

@okoroemeka Your plants looks healthy and your sacks looks straight. 1) Please, did you line those sacks? 2) Those sacks appears more robust than the cement sacks- which sack did you use and why? 3) Appears you adopted twin rows planting - What is the spacing between the sacks in the twin rows and within the rows? 4) What is the spacing of your pathways? 5) How many plants did you plant in each sack? Thanks okoroemeka: |

@ willybaby - you have done so well by sharing your experience Most of my questions are borne out of experience. I've always been involved in tree crops planting. In rubber plantation for example, you can leave the field forested for like eight months and go back there and brush the field and start tapping the trees. They are forgiving. I quickly realise that for you to play in the turf of tree crops, you need a very deep pocket. To that extent you need to look at arable. Two, three years down the line i ventured into arable - maize. Leased two hectares in a government estate around Ofada I had always known that rain forest climatic zone normally experience double maxima rain pattern - maximum rain in June/July and September/October with august break Planted maize and immediately spray atrazine and glyposate. To my surprise, weeds started growing vigorously. I wanted to spray post emergence but was told that the nature of the weeds are grass and post emergence will not be too effective against the grasses - the only alternative is manual weeding. Labour is usually very difficult to get during the planting season - Somehow, the project failed but i learnt some lessons 1) Should have taken my time to read the instructions on the label of the atrazine 2) Should have been patient enough to allow the rainfall to be fully established so that the surface would be wet but i don't want the august break to catch up with me 3) If i can not wait for the rain to be fully established, i should have wait for the seeds of the weeds to germinate and spray before planting 4) The person that planted the seeds did a very bad job - spacing was too much enabling rapid growth of weeds 5) I should have studied the vegetation and plant crops like groundnuts or cowpea I narrowed down my issues to two 1) Weed management and 2) Plant population management . I've learnt my lessons and am hesitant at throwing money into the bush so am inclined to do more research on pre emergence herbicide. Most of my questions usually revolve round the two issues Most of the chemicals you said are not available are actually available. You have Bayer, syngentia, dizengof etc They might not be at your location but they are just a phone call away. Their customers' service personnel are well trained and responsive Please, give us update on your cassava plants development. We are learning Thanks willybaby: 2 Likes |

@willybaby Some weeds from the pictures are almost the same height as the maize. Please, in your opinion, 1. Do you think the pre-emergence application actually served the purpose? and can you possibly adduce reasons? 2. The maize plants suffered a bit of injury from the pictures. Which herbicide did you use that negatively affects the maize plants but did not affect the maize. 3.Why didn't you use herbicides that are selective of both the maize and the cassava? Someone mentioned diuron You may want to read - Scientists recommend additional herbicides for weed control in cassava farming - for further guidance ( just google it) Thanks willybaby: 2 Likes |

Agriculture / Re: Groundnut Contract Farming In Niger State by Sterlingsolutns: 4:38pm On Jun 23, 2020 |
Thanks You see, your business model is similar to cbn anchor borrower scheme. There was a number of delinquent loans from the newspapers report wherein farmers will just elope with the produce even when they are members of co-operatives So I'm wondering how you are going to prevent this From what you have stated, what you have is the mou which can be a strong legal instrument if it can easily be enforced or a paper if the cost of enforcement is high I just felt that instead of going that far to do contract farming, you can do the contract farming in locations around you except there are some compelling reasons to go to that location Thanks emmaodet: |
Agriculture / Re: Step By Step Improve Way Of Cultivating TOMATOES by Sterlingsolutns: 3:07pm On Jun 23, 2020 |
Lol It's easy now. Just get the weight of the crate filled with tomatoes, get the weight of an empty crate, subtract the weight of the empty crate from the one filled with tomatoes and that gives the net weight. Get the weight of a platinum fruit and divide by the net weight of the tomatoes in the crate. That will give an approximate number of fruits that can fill a crate Thanks Farmerakinloye6: 1 Like |

@jidestroud Nice statistics One of the difficult aspect of planning and projections is the dearth of reliable data. As simple as your numbers look, the embedded value is profound because it is based on an observable data. It shows that you are an organized agroprenuer But are your numbers truly correct? A big basket is about 40kg. Per your analysis, a plant will give about 5kg and therefore 8 plants will fill a basket Tomatoes can be planted at a spacing of about 30cm by 80 cm so in an acre you have a population of about 16k so you can get approx 2k baskets from an acre Tomatoes prices fluctuates from as high as 12k per basket to as low as 3k per basket so assuming a worst case scenario of 3k per basket you are looking at a gross revenue of 6m per acre or 1m per plot within a space of 90 days. This looks too good to be true to me Please clarify @ farmerakinloye6 Please, advise how many platinum tomatoes fruits will likely fill a crate Thanks jidestroud: |

Nice concept Few questions please, 1) When did you plant the seeds? 2) What yield are you looking at? Please be kind enough to give a feedback after the harvest 3) What gives you the comfort that the risks enumerated here will not crystallize in your location of contract farming? 4) When is rainfall fully established in Ogun State and Northern Niger State? Please pardon my questions. I'm only being curious. I feel that the latitude of Ogun State from the coast is much lower and thus enjoy extended months of rains than that of Niger State and with careful planning you can crop peanuts twice in Ogun State in a season thereby leveraging on the first land preparations while running the second cycle of planting aside from savings in logistics and overall supervisory cost Thanks emmaodet: |

Investment / Biz Plan For Oil Palm Plantatn Using Adv Excel & Financial Modelling Techniques by Sterlingsolutns: 2:34am On Mar 16, 2019 |
Business case – Justification Supportive government policy – Government policy has been very supportive of oil palm business as evidenced in the fact that its importation is restricted. It is on the list of non-valid for foreign exchange items and as such importers of the product are expected to source their forex requirements from the autonomous source The import duty of 35% imposed on the commodity is quite high although producers of the commodity are asking for even a higher rate. It thus enjoys considerable government support and protection. In the quest for diversification of the economy, with all the structural rigidities, the support is going to be in place for a very long time The product falls into the category of product some people described as products in the category of sellers’ market with okomu oil being the price leader. I will give an example for us to appreciate this. While working with a multinational, what the corporate head office normally does is to hand down your sku(store keeping units) projections to you. If you don’t catch up with strong reasons for the failure to catch up, the corporate head office will simply head hunt another ceo. Realising this, what the local office management of the company will do is to drop the products with the distributors and invoice them. When you send reports, the sales will be high and accounts receivables also high with increasing amount in delinquent receivables. The corporate office will naturally query this and that makes company introduce the key distributors’ scheme wherein the company guarantees the distributors. What this means now is that instead of the products to be seated as receivables in the company financials, it will now be standing as a liability to the distributors guaranteed by the company Years later, I got an employment in an integrated oil palm company. I saw distributors depositing money - what Accountants call customers’ deposit/deferred income and loading was being scheduled for like 45 days later I was flabbergast. I‘ve never worked in such environment that you don’t need sales men. All the sales team does is to allocate products Critical success factor. – If you produce products that has the market, you have the technology and can properly co-ordinate and control men and then the funding is available or can be packaged – you will certainly be rich if you are prudent. Oil palm operations have the entire ingredients of critical success factor. Facilities can easily be packaged if there is no funding, the market is ascertained and the technology is domiciled locally. The only thing that can be a challenge is the boiler in terms of technology and cost but there are ways around this. ................... 1 Like |
