Callistus Lekwa’s illiteracy is gradually tearing at the fabric of his three-year-old marriage. In an unexpected turn of events along the road to a US military strike on Syria, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said Monday afternoon, Sept. 9 that he had urged Syria to hand over its nuclear arsenal to international control if that would stop an American attack. Moscow had lost no time in picking up the gauntlet thrown down by US Secretary of State John Kerry in London a short time before. Asked if there were steps the Syrian president could take to avert an American-led attack, Kerry replied: “Sure, he could turn over every single bit of his chemical weapons to the international community in the next week — turn it over, all of it, without delay and allow the full and total accounting...CONTINUE: http://crimefacts.org/russian-ultimatum-to-assad-give-up-chemical-arsenal-or-face-us-attack-alone/ |

Yesterday, we were prattling away in our newly formed BlackBerry group. Our discussions brought the memories of growing up; of the dusty streets of Sabon Gari; of dogonyaro trees and their antiseptic smell; of the brief, torrential rain falls; of the intense sunlight, and those chilly, dust whirling, energy sapping, skin cracking, seasons of the harmattan. The streets of Kano are wide and bare; the buildings planned, with rusted roofing and faded painting. Snooker and table tennis boards lounged by the gates of some houses in Sabon Gari...CONTINUE: http://crimefacts.org/the-north-is-dead-by-ukamaka-olisakwe/ |
While the Global Call to Action Against Poverty (GCAP) challenges the structures and institutions that perpetuate poverty and inequality, the Feminist Task Force (FTF) promotes a women’s rights agenda and calls for Gender Equality to End Poverty. Both groups have taken serious exception to a jocular comment credited to the Russian Finance Minister and have called for urgent actions to bridge the widening gender gap and ensure gender sensitivity among leaders and especially policy makers. At the G20 Summit in St. Petersburg, Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov joked towards the end of a briefing on Financial Inclusion that “women consume a lot, so they need help with their financial management”. At a summit where women are largely absent – and where the communiques hardly mention gender – Siluanov’s quip is insightful...CONTINUE: http://crimefacts.org/women-group-calls-on-g20-nations-to-address-gender-gap-says-old-boys-network-still-at-work/ |
Report reaching Crimefacts.org indicates that President Goodluck Jonathan may have ordered the forceful sealing of the National Secretariat of the break-away faction of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by security agents today. The office of the group otherwise known as the new PDP was earlier today stormed by heavily armed and combat-ready detachment of mobile policemen who forcefully sacked officials of the group and sealed up the office. This followed breakdown in negotiations and interventions by party leaders and former presidents particularly, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo who had earlier expressed hope that the factions would once again fuse together. Reacting, the spokesperson of the new PDP, Mr. Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere who is also the chairman of the PDP Stakeholders Forum issued a hasty statement condemning the action in very strong terms...CONTINUE: http://crimefacts.org/jonathan-seals-new-pdp-national-secretariat-as-faction-kicks-says-its-impunity-taken-too-far/ |
Prolife activist, Dr. Philip Njemanze has petitioned President Goodluck Jonathan on the controversial Imo Abortion Law. Njemanze presents to the Presidency sections of the law that support same-sex marriage, violation of traditional Ezeship practices in Igboland by granting a woman right to inherit the throne of her father so long as she is older than her male siblings. The law provides a four-year jail term for anyone that stands between the woman and her father’s throne. Njemanze also drew the attention of the Presidency to the 27 General Hospitals under construction in Imo state which was concessioned to an Indian Hospital, the Appollo Hospitals as declared by Governor Okorocha. Radical surgeon and anti-abortion activist, Philip Njemanze has dragged Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo state to court for the sudden revocation of his property following his vociferous stand against the Okorocha administration and particularly, the Imo state Law No.12 known in street parlance as the ‘Imo Abortion Law’. Njemanze who blew the whistle of the Imo Abortion Law, is asking the court to redress the alleged injustice against him and pronounce the revocation of the said property as illegal, null, void and of no effect on the strength of the fact that the property was lawfully acquired with valid Certificate of Occupancy. ...CONTINUE: http://crimefacts.org/aftermath-of-imo-abortion-law-saga-njemanze-drags-okorocha-to-court-over-land-revocation-says-okorochas-apology-is-deceptive/ |
Friday, August 30, at a news conference in Washington, US Secretary of State John Kerry delivered a ringing statement accusing Syria’s President Bashar Assad of responsibility for the lethal poison gas attack on Damascus suburbs on August 21. His words signaled the start of the countdown for the US military strike on Syria, which our military sources estimate could be launched from Friday night until US Labor Day on September 2. Kerry laid out the evidence put before congressional leaders that the Syrian government had that day fired chemical weapons at 11 separate sites in and around Damascus, launching them from ...CONTINUE: http://crimefacts.org/countdown-to-us-military-strike-on-syria-assads-chemicals-killed-1429-syrians-426-children-kerry-alleges/ |
A cold war is now raging between Imo State Government and the Catholic Archdiocese of Owerri following alleged legalization of abortion in the state. Consequently, the Archbishop of the Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Anthony Obinna has demanded the immediate abrogation of the two laws containing the anti-life legislation said to have been signed into law by both Governor Rochas Okorocha and his predecessor Chief Achike Udenwa in 2012 and 2007 respectively. Addressing newsmen in Owerri, on the forth coming 2013 Odenigbo lecture of the Diocese, the fiery cleric regretted that in spite of the public retreat of the State House of Assembly from legalizing the evil of abortion in 2010, Governor Okorocha quietly signed the state law No 12 which he said contains the obnoxious lethal legislation into effecton the 29th of May 2012 and...CONTINUE: http://crimefacts.org/archbishop-obinna-set-to-battle-okorocha-over-abortion-law-calls-for-immediate-abrogation/ |
The threat to academic stability in the nation’s ivory towers because of the current strike by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has attracted headlines in the dailies. The media has also been awashed by many criticisms, most of which have been directed at the Federal Government in which President Jonathan is the representational character. However, it appears many of the critics have failed to consider the other side of the coin, which is one of the essentials in a debate on such a controversial issue. Therefore, the focus of this piece is to examine the purpose of the present ASUU’s strike and their sympathizers’ rage against the FG. Firstly, ASUU came up with the issue of autonomy for universities. The FG approved the idea of autonomy so long as the universities would generate internal revenue to offset their expenditure, including salaries and allowances...CONTINUE: http://crimefacts.org/questioning-the-sincerity-of-ASUU-by-felix-festus/ |
Did you read the article by Tim Newmann entitled End of an Assignment that clinically analysed how the system works in Nigeria just from a Lagos point of view? Well, I did over the weekend and found myself shaking my head to what the British expatriate oil worker catalogued as some of the problems with Nigeria. In all fairness, I always want to differ on some of the issues that people raise that has to do with Nigeria not working as it should especially when such person just does that from a corner then hopes to paint the whole court yard in the same colour, but to some extent, I will say that Tim Newmann was not far from right. But he has finished his assignment and written about his experience with a promise to come back to Nigeria in time to come... The stage is set for the eschatological events that will usher the End-time. The place of this event I will maintain is in our town Owerri, the ancient Holy City of Jerusalem. I will illustrate it clearly to the reader. On 29th May 2012, Governor Rochas Anayo Okorocha, OON signed as law, abortion all through 9 months of pregnancy in Imo State, paradoxically called Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law No.12, of 2012. Everything about this Law No. 12 has the characteristics of the Main End-time Event of the Abomination in Jerusalem. This infamous event occurred in the Holy Month of May declared by the Holy Catholic Church for Devotion to Our Blessed Virgin Mary, according to the Dogma of the Immaculate Conception by Pope Pius IX in 1854. The number twelve means ‘completeness’ of the events of the End-Time Genocide of the Unborn Child...CONTINUE: http://crimefacts.org/okorochas-abortion-law-and-ominous-signs-a-catholics-perspective-by-philip-njemanze/ |

Dozens of suspected Boko Haram militants trapped in Magumeri forest, Borno, have turned to human eaters after being stranded for days without food or water. Magumeri forest is about 150 kilometres from Maiduguri, the state capital. Mallam Momodu Bukar, a suspected militant, told newsmen on Saturday in Maiduguri that he fled the camp at the forest on Thursday when it became obvious that he was going to be eaten. “I thank God that I escaped because I would have been slaughtered by now to provide meal for my colleagues at the camp,” Bukar said. I write to strongly condemn the false and defamatory statements against the Deputy Governor of Imo State Prince Eze Madumere by Sandra Duru published in some media sites. Sandra in her publication said she caught Madumere in bisexual act with her ex-husband. She has been making conflicting statements in her quest to blackmail the Deputy Governor of Imo State. Normally I would have investigated her story but I did not because she once phoned me to do the fake story for her. As a Columnist I have been involved in the struggle for good governance in Imo State with series of media articles. It is on record that I launched the first media attack on Owelle Rochas Okorocha when he became governor of Imo State. For all my human fallibility, I have sought to make my case with fervor and some measure of clarity. On May 14, 2013, when I published an article ‘Fashola: Porting from admirable achievements to peeving policies’, some respondents could have sworn that it was sponsored. Their position was however pardonable because unfortunately, we are in a country where due to the poverty rate, some believe that you can only disagree with an incumbent government after someone somewhere has deposited something in your bank account. Once more, here we are divided over yet another policy that has gone sour. In late July, the government of Anambra State protested the ‘deportation’ of certain south-east indigenes from Lagos, Nigeria’s former national capital. Governor Peter Obi was said to have forwarded a letter of protest to President Goodluck Jonathan in which...CONTINUE:http://crimefacts.org/deportation-brouhaha-fashola-cup-don-full/ |
Dear Sirs, I hope this letter meets you in a good, patriotic spirit. Let me first use this opportunity to join other Nigerians in congratulating the opposition on the registration of the long-awaited alternative party, the All Progressives Congress. Its registration by the Independent National Electoral Commission was a significant moment for Nigerians. It, hopefully, signals a new dawn considering that for once, a truly national opposition platform which has been elusive in the Fourth Republic, appears to have emerged to challenge the ruling party in 2015 and beyond. In many ways too, the merger of the once disparate opposition parties under a unifying bloc represents a milestone in the quest for the enthronement of genuine democracy. That the union has come at a time when this democracy is under imminent threat of annihilation by anti-democratic forces gives Nigerians cause to cheer. Now, they hope that the ruling party will subsequently be held accountable and its excesses curtailed. While also admitting that your union may not be a gathering of saints, it nonetheless, represents a starting point...CONTINUE: http://crimefacts.org/an-open-letter-to-buhari-and-tinubu-by-bayo-olupohunda/ |

Philip Njemanze, a medical practitioner and researcher has declared that by the 1st of January, 2014, Nigeria would be an expired state. Njemanze made this declaration in Owerri, the Imo state capital while interacting with our correspondent. According to him, the amalgamation document of 1914, a letter patent by which Nigeria came into being would expire by January 1, 2014. Njemanze explained that according to standard international protocol, every territorial claim has a life–span of 99 years. He cited example of the Northern and Southern Sudan which was also amalgamated by the same Lord Lugard in 1912.
