“Beyond selfish and vaulting ambition, why else would a man who calls himself a leader join or advocate a merger of incompatibles, especially with a party without a future?” This and many more were the questions of leaders of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in a recent parley in Owerri. As debate of the PIB bill at the senate goes on the only thing worth saying is that there should be a re-distribution of oil wealth in Nigeria. Everybody knows it is unfair and a wrong use of power by those who have been in power where they don’t produce a drop of oil and yet are controlling 83 percent of our oil well. The other 17 percent is not just to other Nigerians, I am sure; they are directly to those friends of the North. It is like a monopoly of power. Again, by the structure of the society, the money doesn’t go down. It is only feeding the banks overseas. That is one of the reasons why we have Boko Haram. If it were those who think they can Islamise Nigeria, it would have been nipped in the bud. The mission to Islamise Nigeria is a mission impossible. 0 Inmates of Kuje medium security prison, Abuja, have protested against the move by the Federal Government to grant amnesty to members of the insurgent sect, Boko Haram. The Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North had visited the prison, on Thursday, to meet with some members of the sect who are being kept in the facility. The prisoners expressed displeasure with the idea that the government was considering amnesty for the insurgents despite the gravity of their crime against state. The prisoners cashed in on the presence of journalists who had accompanied the committee, led by Minister of Special Duties, Kabiru Tanimu Turaki, to the prison to express their disappointment at the ongoing efforts to encourage the insurgents to embrace peace in return for a possible amnesty. The inmates, speaking loudly through the windows of their cells, wondered why amnesty should be considered for those who they claimed were responsible for the death of many people and causing the nation a lot of misery. Some even suggested that there was no need running prison facilities, if unrepentant mass murderers are being begged to accept amnesty...Continue http://crimefacts.org/prisoners-protest-amnesty-for-boko-haram-sayif-mass-murderers-get-amnesty-many-prisoners-should-be-freed/ |

Another Indian Disaster Looms In Nigeria Another Indian Disaster Looms In Nigeria http:///SQrLG6 By 247ureports .As Indian firm runs high-tension transmission line over industrial complex .Over 100 Nigerian factory workers, properties in danger .Uses Nigerian soldiers, mobile policemen to intimidate local authorities From Lagos, Nigeria Months after the Dana Air Crash that brought tears to the eyes of many Nigerians seems to have been forgotten, another disaster of similar magnitude lurks in the corner. This time, another Indian Company, Top Steel Nig. Ltd, in a seeming display of insensitivity to the environment, on the 8th of June, 2012 erected a transmission pillar and ran a high tension power transmission line directly over the roof of an industrial complex owned by Isocare West Africa Ltd., in which over 100 Nigerians work daily. Both companies are located at the Ikorodu Industrial Estate, Odogunyan, Lagos. On the 5th of June, the counsel to Isocare West Africa had met with the General Manager of Top-Steel Nigeria Ltd, Mr. Rajendra Bharadia and explained to him about the dangerous implications of mounting a high tension wire directly over the roof of the industrial complex of Isocare West African Limited and advised him to have a rethink. Mr. Bharadia however, rebuffed all the entreaties and resolved to go ahead with the project. Within the same period, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) based on a complaint by Isocare, and after a physical inspection of the said construction, had issued an abatement notice to Top Steel and its General Manager Mr. Rajendra Bharadia at the site of the erection of the high tension wire ordering the company to discontinue the project, this also was ignored by the Top Steel helmsman. The Ikorodu Local Government Environmental Task Force also issued a stop work order to Top Steel Nigeria Limited which was also ignored. Mr. Bharadia after several complaints and directives to him to stop work, in apparent defiance proceeded to bribe top officials at the Army Barrack in Ikorodu, and then recruited Nigerian soldiers and mobile Policemen who he stationed at the construction site, while he personally supervised the erection of the high tension wire over another company’s (Isocare West Africa) property. Mr. Bharadia had also allegedly ordered mobile policemen to assault and brutalize staff of Isocare West Africa who attempted to take pictures of the erection of the high tension wire over Isocare. Nigerian workers allegedly assaulted include one James Ajayi, a photographer; David Effiong, Niyi Adejimoh and Lekan Amos, all employees of Isocare. Isocare West Africa Ltd was established seven years ago by a Nigerian living in the Diaspora after several entreaties by Nigerian trade delegations overseas to Nigerians to invest at home. A beverage and plastic making factory, Isocare produces bottled water, carbonated soft drinks and juice in Tetra Pak and sports drinks like Gatorade. The company has in its employ over 100 Nigerians working day and night at the industrial complex which has equipment estimated at over $50 million all of which could face destruction at the snap of a single high tension transmission line. The said high tension which was erected solely for the purpose of connecting Top Steel Nigeria Ltd was apparently carried out without any evaluation of the environmental impact and with very little consideration to the safety of lives and properties that already existed in the area before the erection of the transmission line. It would be recalled that in June this year, a 33KVA transmission line that passed through the Agbakoja market, Apata in Ibadan South West Council area of Oyo State snapped and killed five traders including an expectant woman. At the time, the Power Holding Company of Nigeria had made their position very clear. In a statement by the Principal Manager (Public Affairs) Mr. Jude Oyenuga, the PHCN made it abundantly clear that it portends grave hazards to have buildings or activities under or even within close proximity of a high tension wire. His words: “The public should bear in mind that these electrical materials are persistently exposed to mother nature which makes them vulnerable to wear and tear. This could lead to the snapping of the line and such accident could happen without notice with dire consequences”. Commenting also, the Ag. Director of Public Affairs of the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Mr. Dipo Ifabiyi noted that even if the transmission line was as low as 11KVA, running same directly over an already existing property was still dangerous and contravenes standard regulations and conventions. An activist, Mr. Chidi Emeagi, condemned the situation say, “Nigerian authorities would keep on talking and not take action until we have another mortal disaster in our hands. Only in Nigeria would a country’s security agencies be used to perpetrate acts of lawlessness and impunity. The governments of the land cannot claim ignorance of the reckless actions of the Indian firm, until they have ‘human barbecues’ of Nigerian citizens in their hands. And then, perhaps, all the relevant agencies that should have taken action would be mobilized to yet again gloss over the disaster like they did in the avoidable Dana airplane crash.” Emeagi called on the Lagos state government and the Federal government to put their foot down and protect the lives of their nationals. Repeated efforts to get a comment from Mr. Rajendra Bharadia of Top Steel were thwarted by the management of the company. |

First ask them if the Nigerian Police has a data base of its personnel across the country or if the Nigerian judicial system has a database for criminal convicts? Lets first get to work before we commence the talk talk session. Beside real security is not discussed on the pages of newspapers, its results and achievements tell its stories. Have your say! |

What do we expect of governments that enthrones criminals as monarchs? And what would commoners do when monarchs desecrate the throne? http://www.nigeriancompass.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=9512:imo-assembly-recommends-monarchs-sack&catid=54:nigeria-today&Itemid=594 Imo Assembly recommends monarch’s sack SUNDAY, 18 DECEMBER 2011 00:00 STEVE UZOECHI, OWERRI HITS: 214 These are clearly not the best of times for Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, the Chairman of the South East Council of Traditional Rulers, whose sack as traditional ruler was ratified by the Imo State House of Assembly. The state Assembly urged Governor Rochas Okorocha to endorse the dethronement of Ilomuanya in accordance with Section 14(1) c, d, e, of the Traditional Rulers and Autonomous Community Law No. 6 of 2006. The House, after a probe, held that it had sufficient proof that Eze Cletus Ilomuanya is an ex-convict. The Assembly ratified the report of its five-man ad-hoc committee which looked into petitions lodged by indigenes of Obinugwu community where Ilomuanya was the traditional ruler. One Ikechukwu Obi, an indigene of the community had in his petition alleged that the monarch, Eze Ilomuanya, is a fraudster and an ex-convict. He blamed the Imo State government for having inflicted the community with shame and reproach by having its royal stool occupied by Eze Ilomuanya whom he alleged was a known fraudster and an ex-convict. He added that only the government could undo the wrong by removing Ilomuanya. Mr. Obi tendered a certified copy of judgement of Cross River State High Court, Calabar Judicial Division Holden at Calabar before His Lordship Hon. Justice U. J. Udofia dated 13th day of August, 1990, charge No. C/93C/89, which convicted Cletus Ilomuanya and one Uchenwoye MacNeilson on a two-count charge to buttress his allegation of fraud against the embattled monarch. The committee which was headed by Hon. Emeka Nwofor thereafter recommended that the House resolve to urge the Imo State governor to withdraw recognition accorded Cletus Ilomuanya as the traditional ruler of Obinugwu Autonomous Community. The Assembly’s hammer also fell on another traditional ruler, Eze Cosmos Onyeneke, who was already serving an indefinite suspension from the state government for complicity in a kidnap case. Onyeneke, the traditional ruler of Lagwa Autonomous Community in Aboh Mbaise council area was also accused of being an ex-convict in a petition presented by the Town Union president of Lagwa, Hon. Matthew Osuagwu and one D. O Amadi. Osuagwu submitted a certified copy of judgement of Aboh Mbaise Magistrate Court which convicted Onyeneke of the theft of a power generator in 1988. However, Kennedy Eweama, the Press Secretary to Eze Cletus Ilomuanya has dismissed the house decision as a setup against his principal, stating that the said court document was forged. He urged the Assembly not to make a caricature of itself. |
Whatever be the case, coach Eucharia Uche has a right to a moral stand on such issue whether we accept it or not. Besides, how can her team perform if players get polarized or thrown poles apart from each other over one love feud or the other that may generate from the pairings. To think of it; it is actually 'dirty' if for instance her midfielder is dating her attacker and another attacker is dating a defender and a defender is dating a goal keeper. It can only amount to a huge mess! We all know the complexities associated with the regular boy-girl dating what more same sex dating in the same team saddled with a national assignment. On this count I will vote for Eucharia Uche on her stand. And I am convinced only a coach with absolutely no sense of responsibility will tolerate such coupling in her team or one who is also a practitioner or an apologist of lesbianism. |
BOKO HARAM KILLS MEMBER WHO MET WITH OBJ SUNDAY, 18 SEPTEMBER 2011 00:00 GBENGA AKINGBULE HITS: 233 IN what may be the loudest rejection of peace with the Nigerian state, the Boko Haram sect yesterday killed one of its arrow-heads who held a peace meeting with former President Olusegun Obasanjo. The murder, carried by a lone man, came barely 48 hours after the peace meeting of Thursday. Alhaji Babakura Fugu was the in-law of the groups’ slain leader, Mohammed Yusuf. Sources told Sunday Compass that Babakura was killed at about 1:30pm by a man wearing a brown long Arabian gown, who shot straight at his target who was sitting under a tree near their family house. “After killing Babakura, he fired four times at a parked car to scare people before walking away through the way he came,” said a family member in tears. The Boko Haram sect immediately claimed responsibility for the murder via a text message sent to the Hausa Service of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) shortly after the incident. Babakura, according to those who knew him, was a class teacher and the eldest son of the late Baafur Alhaji Fugu, who was killed alongside Muhammed Yusuf, during the 2009 Boko-Haram insurgency. Sunday Compass gathered that Babakura was killed by an angry Boko-Haram member who was not happy with the Thursday meeting with Obasanjo. The former President had visited Maiduguri, the capital city of Borno State, which is regarded as the Boko Haram hotspot to hold talks with family members of the slain leader of sect. The family members of the late Muhammed, after their meeting with the former president claimed that they gave certain conditionalities to be met before there could be cessation of hostilities. The family told BBC Hausa Service, monitored in Kaduna, that they obtained the approval of the top echelon of the sect to meet with Obasanjo, who insisted that the meeting be held without any security personnel. Sources say that the killing of Babakura could be a demonstration of division within the sect, as it was said that the group is sharply divided over whether or not to accept Obasanjo’s talks offer. Fugu had told reporters after the meeting: “Obasanjo came to Maiduguri and met us in our house. He first of all introduced his person and he empathised with us over the loss of our loved ones. Obasanjo said he came to meet us personally and (to) hear our grievances and to take our grievances to President Goodluck Jonathan, so that there will be resolution of this issue once and for all. “He also said that his coming was to see how our plights and other challenges could be overcome as a means to prove that government is indeed ready for peace. “We discussed the issue of our houses which were demolished; then the court which ruled that we be paid damages. And we also told him that security agencies must desist from any moves to harass us by even government officials. “Based on this agreement, Obasanjo told us that he would personally take the matter to President Goodluck Jonathan. All of us were in the meeting, including those of Muhammad Yusuf with our sister and mother of Fuji Foi who harped on the fact that his children should be mobilised to access education and better welfare. “There will be peace if the agreement is reached. The Boko Haram members are demanding adequate compensation for those killed by security agencies and the same thing with us whose loved ones were also killed. We have faith in Obasanjo’s coming without any doubt.” http://www.nigeriancompass.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=5143:boko-haram-kills-member-who-met-with-obj&catid=54:nigeria-today&Itemid=594 |
