What manner of inflation did the dollar suffer? |
Politics › Re: Cost Of China's Yaxi Expressway Vs Nigeria's Lagos Calabar Coastal Highway by StOla: 4:24am On Apr 23, 2024 |
socialmediaman: China's Yaxi Expressway Cost $3.3 billion USD in 2012. The bridge is considered an engineering marvel and a masterpiece!
Yaxi Expressway is the same length as the Lagos - Calabar Expressway (about 240 kilometers).
If you factor in about 150% inflation between 2012 and 2024 in the construction industry (based on 12% average inflation annually), it will cost $7.5 billion USD in today's money, about N8.5 Trillion naira.
So why is the Lagos Calabar Expressway costing Nigeria N15 Trillion naira? You live in a different reality where the length of the Lagos - Calabar Coastal Road of over 700km is equivalent to about 240km? |

FreeStuffsNG: Don't bother your head, this is an authentic British independent school and specifically targeted for those who value and appreciate that kind of education. You may not appreciate it yet but wait till you know the intrinsic value. It's like wondering why Rolls Royce costs more than Toyota after all they are both cars.
That school already has its market for high networth individuals, members of the diplomatic corps and expatriates. Availability of such kind of schools is used by great multinationals to pull talents into their workforce and such talents will be willing to relocate with their families to Lagos and Nigeria to work and live. Such models have been in use in Dubai, Qatar, Saudi Arabia etc, it's like bringing the snow to your doorstep without going to the parts of the world that snows. If you are not in their target market, don't take paracetamol for the headache of those who will conveniently pay it as individuals and organisations that will pay for their employees. As per the text in bold, you are very right. Most parents would never have to pay out of pocket for such schools. Whenever oil industry downturn occurs and people are laid off globally in their respective countries, it is always the children's school that is the first casualty of the new modest lifestyle. That is because na company dey pay, so many parents target the best paying schools to enroll their kids, just because. So when the reality dawns after a layoff, they realise their kids can get a good education at 1/4 of the fees they've been putting on their employer's tab. But trust that there will always be that Talika alagidi who will want to show off and send their children to this school, even when it is not necessary. Just for the show off is enough motivation for some Nigerian parents who are not ready to pay the housekeeper more than N40k per month. |

vengertime: Nigerians in the UK can't even afford that if they want their kids in Nigeria while they work over there.
Primary school o Nigerians in the UK don chop belleful for Peckham and Southwark? Listen and hear now, the Nigerians who attend the best schools in the UK, have their parents making their big money in Nigeria. UK was not designed for an African immigrant/economic refugee to come in and make it. Don't let any Nigerian deceive you that they made it in the UK. They are only surviving and their children's children will only survive too. Nigerians who attended the best schools in the UK in the 1980s and 1990s, were children of rich politicians and business men, the military children, and the thieving bank executives. They all made their money in Nigeria and were spending it in the UK. That tradition subsist till today. Abi na those ones who have had to move out of London to the countryside to reduce their expenses and avoid gang violence, go save up for this elitist school when government school yapa for UK? You should have even said Nigerians in the US who have made it as professionals and are already accustomed to premium pricing for services and education of their children. |

vengertime: Nigerians in the UK can't even afford that if they want their kids in Nigeria while they work over there.
Primary school o If Nigerians throng to attend this school, it only lends credence to my pleas to government to stop subsidising services for Nigerians who can obviously afford to pay way more than the government and service providers are charging. It also shows that if the government is willing to upgrade our universities and charge appropriately instead of annual tuition fees that is less than the monthly pocket money of the student, many Nigerians can afford those fees and our universities would still be well attended. The sad part is that some parents who would send multiple kids to this school, still want to pay their house keeper N40k and driver N70k, while also bypassing the electricity meter for their Air Conditioner power consumption. |

LP's Olumide Akpata speaks on alleged clash with students at UNIBEN According to him, “Our team followed all necessary procedures and submitted Alhaji Kadiri’s name and credentials as the deputy governorship candidate, well within INEC’s stipulated window.

What the government is telling us is that if the child's parents cannot afford a private school, the child would stay idle at home for 3 years before giving university education a shot.
That's like delaying the academic advancement of that child. Very bad if you ask me.
And for the records, I finished my secondary education at the age of 15. Who told you private schools are exempt from the 18yrs benchmark? Who asked your parents to force you into school before the right time. |

In a bid to cover the shame that Peter Obi received with his customary substandard projects - this time being the borehole donations he was making in the North, some zombies who had group together on their social media platform, came up with a propaganda of turning the media backlash of the shameful situation into a challenge.
They vowed that their propaganda support groups will deliver boreholes across the nation, and promised us beautiful pictures (inadvertently admitting that the one from Peter Obi was not beautiful, but an eye sore)
They even went as far as claiming someone had taken the lead and donated a borehole to his community as a response to those donated by Peter Obi. They showed us an obviously already built borehole by that supporter and tried to tie it to the Obi propanganda bandwagon.
It is almost 2 weeks and those who by propaganda donated a borehole less than 2days after media backlash of Obi's poor standard project, are yet to regale us with the beautiful pictures of boreholes they have donated.
Propaganda employed to deflect from a bad situation, would only compound the woes due to that bad situation.
Obi, who was infamous and berated as a Governor who provided substandard roads and infrastructure that do not last, has reinforced that public assertion as a truth. This man with no standards cannot be expected to give what is beyond his local champion capacity.
In fact, the news around town is that the eye sore borehole project he donated is no longer working.
