That's why I like nairaland, different people with different opinions. Permit me to add my opinion. I still maintain that people with professional certifications/skills have better chances of securing jobs than those who have M.Sc. in Nigeria of today. There is nothing wrong in going for an M. Sc but it does not make you know engineering better, not in any way .Doing an M Sc does not give you any special skills which you can use to beat ur contemporaries in the labour market. The main reason a lot of Electrical/Electronics Engineering graduates cannot secure jobs is because they have no skill, it is not because they do not have M Sc. After graduation, some of my colleagues went for a Mechatronics course at IIT,where they were trained on Instrumentation, control and automation. Today those guys are better of,two of them are in oil and gas and the other three are in FMCG earning very fat salaries not because of their degrees alone but because of the additional skills they acquired. Take it or leave it,an engineering graduate needs one or two skills to succeed in the labour market. While I was doing my own training I had 3 MSc holders in my class, the question is what are they looking for after bagging their MScs? They came for the training because MSc alone could not solve their problems. Today they are all fixed up thanks to the technical skill they acquired Please do not be discouraged, look for a training centre and do a training to acquire a skill and u will be better for it |
Bennyzino:Thank you so much for this Many a graduate today boast of their HNDs,B.Sc 2.1,2.2,Distinction etc without any other skills apart from the calculus and laplace they learnt in school. There r many graduates out there with first class and distinction but have still not got jobs. Why not separate urself from them and increase your chances of getting a job by going for a professional training.A good example is Autocad ,Instrumentation and PLC training. There r a good number of training centres around that can give you the training.I bet you that there r jobs in Nigeria but for those that go beyond just HND,B.Sc and the likes. Get a skill and your story will change |
At least they voted here, those children are also human being though they are under aged. This is better than what happened in the SE/SS where non-living things voted |
What about the speaker of HOR? |
GOODLUCK JONATHAN |
because Jonathan was also not present in 2011 at the NN24 debate |
Definitely not. The influence and power he has now would wane as soon as he looses the presidential elections. |

DesChyko:You need to check what Jonathan said again ,he said "ordinary stealing people will say it's corruption" We are not fools |

When is he visiting SCOAN? |
This is shameful. All because you want to become governor? Will he continue to distribute kerosene to people when he becomes the governor? He's only doing this because of the elections not because he cares about them. This is a reason not to vote for Agbaje |
1million Jonathans cannot scuttle the will of the people. |
Rather than tell Nigerians what they have done in the last six years ,the Jonathan administration is busy smearing Buhari's image in order to get our votes. Funny enough, the more they smear Buhari's image the more i like him more. Jonathan should tell us why Nigerians should vote for him and not why we should not vote for Buhari. I have decided to vote Buhari not because he is the best candidate for the job but because Jonathan has performed below expectation. We have tasted GEJ's soup for six years,we now know how it tastes(it tastes like poo) |

You will do something for the South-South when re-elected What if you are not re-elected? This President does not even know how to campaign? Is this how to win people's votes? Jonathan only talk 'sense' when he is reading from a prepared speech |
He pointed out that he accepted Amaechi’s challenge, but would do “something” for the South-South states when he is re-elected, President Jonathan, who spoke during the presidential rally of the Peoples Democratic Party at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Igwuruta-Ali, Ikwerre Local Government of Rivers State, however, promised to develop the South-South region if elected for a second term in office. The President was reacting to the criticism by Amaechi, who is also the Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Organisation, that he (Jonathan) had not done anything for Rivers and Bayelsa states Describing Amaechi’s statement as a challenge, Jonathan admitted that though he had not allocated more development to his people, the situation was an indication that he (Jonathan) meant well for the country. He pointed out that he accepted Amaechi’s challenge, but would do “something” for the South-South states when he is re-elected |

Mr Femi Fani-Kayode is the media director of the Goodluck Jonathan presidential campaign organisation Read what he wrote about President Goodluck Jonathan in October 2013 Fani Kayode said I have said it before and I shall say it again, Nigeria has become an abattoir of human flesh and blood under the tenure of President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan and all those who support him should bury their heads in shame. The blood of all those innocent people is on his hands because he swore to an oath before God and the Nigerian people to protect them from such evil. The carnage that we are witnessing in our country today has come as a direct result of the manifestation of weakness at the top. When a President tells the world that Boko Haram are his ”siblings” whom he ”cannot move against”, as he did earlier this year, he is asking for trouble. When a President keeps offering Boko Haram amnesty even when they kept rejecting it and whilst they were murdering his people, as he has been doing for the last three years, he is asking for trouble. When a President installs and supports a party National Chairman who describes Boko Haram as ”freedom fighters”, as he did earlier this year, he is asking for trouble. When a President announces to the world that he is ”not a lion or a David”, as he did exactly two years ago, no one should be surprised when his people are killed like flies before his very eyes. May God bring us a real leader that can save our nation and may He take away this one who feels no pain and has no empathy when Nigerian blood, nay even the blood of innocent children, is shed with impunity. Under the tenure of our ”lamb” President, more innocent Nigerians have been slaughtered by terrorists than at any other time in the history of our country except during the civil war. Permit me to make a painful observation here. I was thoroughly appalled about the fact that when our lamb President was asked about the latest round of killings during his live ”Presidential Media Chat” programme on Sunday evening, he not only told a lie to the world by claiming that only ”21 or 22 students were killed” at a time when the BBC and CNN had confirmed that at least 45 bodies had been found (more were to be discovered later) but he also failed to express his condolences to the families of those that had lost their loved ones. He made the same omission when he failed to commiserate with or express his condolences to the families of the soldiers that were killed in Borno state whilst fighting Boko Haram simply because they ran out of bullets during the course of the battle. As crude and unpleasant as it may sound the question must be asked – does our President have any balls? Is he really a man? Does he have what it takes to fight a war against terror or is it that there is more to this than meets the eye? Is there a sinister and diabolical conspiracy and plan to ensure that elections do not hold in the northeast and the northwest in 2015 given the fact that those areas are very hostile to the suggestion that Jonathan should return to power that year? Is this whole thing planned and contrived or is it a case of chronic incompetence, ineptitude and weakness? The greatest error that we as a people ever made and the worst tragedy and misfortune that has ever befallen us as a nation is the fact that a meek lamb ended up taking a throne that was designed and prepared for a lion. The unfortunate consequences of that tragic error and misfortune are there for all to see. The shedding of the blood of even the youngest, the most innocent and the most vulnerable in our society by Boko Haram on a daily basis is an eloquent testimony to that unsavoury fact. ogtavia:What do you think about the president inviting the families of the kidnapped girls to Aso Rock? |
In 2014,the presidency spent N33, 476,963 on generator fuel In 2015 they intend to spend N35, 344,855 on generator fuel. Does that not tell us something? Yet the presidency will tell us power situation in the country has improved. Why then has the expenses on generator fuel not reduced? |
The Office of the President will spend N456.98m on honoraria and sitting allowances in 2015. This is different from the N348, 342,741 projected to be spent by the State House on honoraria and sitting allowances during the same year. Details of the 2015 budget proposals obtained by The PUNCH in Abuja on Tuesday also show that the office of the President will spend N1.93bn on travels and transport. The document is not specific on who can receive honoraria but the President plays host to former Heads of State and governors who make up the Council of State. It was also learnt that honoraria could be stipends paid to members of committees set up by the government. There was no provision for honoraria for the office of President in the 2014 budget proposal but the State House received a provision of N320, 222,500 for it and sitting allowances. The breakdown of the expenditure on travels and transport shows that the office of the President will be spending N1, 306,834,350 on local travels and transport and the sum of N621, 067,913 on international travels and transport. The travel bill of the President for 2014 was higher than the provision for 2015. The 2014 budget made a provision of N2, 378,862,017 for the Office of the President for local and international travels. For 2015, it is N1,927,902,263 for local and international travels. For foodstuffs/catering materials supplies, a provision of N142, 472,537 was made for the Office of the President. The 2015 budget proposal includes a provision of N131, 911,315 for fuel and lubricants for the State House. The breakdown shows that plant/generator fuel will consume N35, 344,855; motor vehicle fuel, N85, 843,802 and cooking gas/fuel, N10, 102,858. For 2014, the State House received lesser provision of N122, 855,267 for fuel and lubricants. This was broken down into motor vehicle fuel, N79, 950,407; plants and generators, N33, 476,963, and cooking gas/fuel cost, N9, 427,898. A provision of N60, 847,647 was made for the Office of the President for advertisement and publicity. For the State House, N287,514,283 provision is made for welfare packages; N174,537,975 for refreshment and meals; N215, 635,715 for foodstuffs and catering services; N31,582,475 for medical expenses; and N35,495,233 for publicity and advertisement. As of press time; it could not be ascertained whether these provisions would be reworked downwards to reflect the austerity measures announced by the Federal Government to enable the country to glide through sliding prices in the international oil market. Coordinating Minister of the Economy and Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, had while presenting the 2015 budget breakdown, announced additional measures to check the consumption pattern of Nigerians. She explained that the measures would commence from the beginning of the second quarter of 2015 and would considerably boost the ratio of non-oil revenues to oil revenues. Giving details of the measures and how much they will contribute into the nation’s treasury, she explained that the government intended to generate more revenue through the strengthening of tax administration. This, she said, would be achieved if the better-off in the society contributed a bit more towards easing the pains felt from the economic crunch. As a short term measure, she said a 10 per cent import surcharge would be imposed on new private jets. This is estimated to yield about N3.7bn revenue for the nation in 2015. Similarly, the minister explained that 39 per cent import surcharge would be imposed on luxury yachts which is estimated to potentially raise N1.6bn in 2015; while another five per cent import surcharge would be placed on luxury cars and this is estimated to yield about N2.6bn of additional revenue. In the same vein, she said a surcharge on business and first class tickets on airlines would be imposed on travellers. She however, did not stipulate the rate to be applied for this class of levy and how much it will generate. Others are the imposition of three per cent luxury surcharge on champagnes, wines and spirits expected to generate about N2.3bn in 2015; and a one per cent mansion tax on residential properties within the Federal Capital Territory with a value of N300m and above. This property tax for luxury building within the FCT, according to the minister, is estimated to yield additional N360m. All these surcharges, she noted, would yield a total of about N10.56bn in 2015. She had said, “We should see these challenging times as times of opportunities to further move this economy on the right path. “Luckily, this administration had taken to diversification seriously and had begun to make inroads prior to this time. “The non-oil sector, whose growth has averaged about eight per cent in the last few years, is the primary driver of growth in the economy unlike the oil sector which is actually contracting. “In the short term, we are determined to improve tax revenues not by increasing tax rates as many have advised, but rather as a pro-people administration, by strengthening our tax administration. “We aim to plug leakages, increase the tax base and improve tax collection efficiency. A 10 per cent import surcharge would be imposed on new private jets which is estimated to yield about N3.7bn in 2015.” In the area of tax waivers and exemptions, the finance minister lamented that analysis had shown that about 30 per cent of those that received tax waivers from government especially under the pioneer status scheme now abuse the system.
