Any Muslim on earth can lead prayer anywhere on earth. But if there's a mosque leader, you have to honor the respect for him to lead the prayer. Can any random Christian occupy the pulpit when the pastor is around ? So, if a nothern mosque has imam, respect him to pray, if he's now available anyone can lead the prayer.

Okay as a Muslim. There are masjid where Muslims pray, each of these masjid has their leader, called imam in Northern Nigeria you don't expect a southerner to be a leader of a mosque. So, you'll most likely be led by a northern Muslim. Same in South, even in Hausa village here in Ondo state their imam is a Southern Yoruba where I prayed along with Hausa even today at jumah.

However, if you miss the prayer with the imam you can organize yourselves to pray and I personally has led prayers severally for Hausa. Only someone who visits the mosque can understand this practically by seeing for himself.

I think this are one-sided If the report is directed to north killings. More Muslims live in north ad when a bomb is thrown it doesn't ask if you're a Muslim before it kills. And more Muslims are even killed in the northern insecurity.
