Romance / VALENTINE'S DAY; Does It Really Worth It? By Abiodun by Studentcosmos(m): 7:28am On Feb 14, 2017
"Where are you spending your Valentine this saturday?", a friend asked.

I had forgotten this Tuesday would be 14th of February, a date many youths are enthusiastic about. A day acclaimed to show love to someone. A day to make your loved one(s) feel loved; VALENTINE'S DAY. Many are aware of the history behind Valentine's day and the reason for the celebration, but I doubt if they actually know its importance. I would not want to delve into the history of St. Valentino so as not to bore you.

Youths now have a misconception about this day. A day meant to show love has now become a nightmare and snare to some other people. Some see it as a day to fool around, some see it as a day of bountiful gift harvest from the opposite gender. Some just lose their dignity and self respect in a flash. So many pockets have been punctured, so many hearts broken, so many lies told, so many bright future stained, all in the name of just one day; VALENTINE.
You show love on just "one" day, what happens to the rest of the days. If you could only show love once out of 365days, then valentine's day is "USELESS". If you show love day-in day-out for 365 days, then feb. 14 seems indifferent. Feb. 14 should be like every other day. Why save your love just to lavish on just one day. Why the jamboree and fun fair? Love should be a subconscious habit practiced everyday not just mere spoken words. Quite unfortunate, some youths don't even know the difference between LOVE and LUST.
However, happy Valentine's Day!!! Eat, drink and have fun. But bear in mind, a day set aside for jamboree LOVE out of 365 days is not just worth it.

Romance / Thinking "Out Of The Box" - The Story Of The Girl And The Pebbles. by Studentcosmos(m): 9:15pm On Feb 09, 2017
Thinking "Out of the Box"

Many hundreds of years ago in a small Italian town, a merchant had the misfortune of owing a large sum of money to the moneylender. The moneylender, who was old and ugly, fancied the merchant's beautiful daughter so he proposed a bargain. He said he would forgo the merchant's debt if he could marry the daughter. Both the merchant and his daughter were horrified by the proposal. The moneylender told them that he would put a black pebble and a white pebble into an empty bag. The girl would then have to pick one pebble from the bag. If she picked the black pebble, she would become the moneylender's wife and her father's debt would be forgiven. If she picked the white pebble she need not marry him and her father's debt would still be forgiven. But if she refused to pick a pebble, her father would be thrown into jail.

They were standing on a pebble strewn path in the merchant's garden. As they talked, the moneylender bent over to pick up two pebbles. As he picked them up, the sharp-eyed girl noticed that he had picked up two black pebbles and put them into the bag. He then asked the girl to pick her pebble from the bag.

What would you have done if you were the girl? If you had to advise her, what would you have told her? Careful analysis would produce three possibilities:
1. The girl should refuse to take a pebble.
2. The girl should show that there were two black pebbles in the bag and expose the moneylender as a cheat.
3. The girl should pick a black pebble and sacrifice herself in order to save her father from his debt and imprisonment.

The above story is used with the hope that it will make us appreciate the difference between lateral and logical thinking. The girl put her hand into the moneybag and drew out a pebble. Without looking at it, she fumbled and let it fall onto the pebble-strewn path where it immediately became lost among all the other pebbles.

"Oh, how clumsy of me," she said. "But never mind, if you look into the bag for the one that is left, you will be able to tell which pebble I picked." Since the remaining pebble is black, it must be assumed that she had picked the white one. And since the moneylender dared not admit his dishonesty, the girl changed what seemed an impossible situation into an advantageous one.

MORAL OF THE STORY: Most complex
problems do have a solution, sometimes we have to think about them in a different way.

Education / Ogun Students Protest Against ‘outrageous Fees’ by Studentcosmos(m): 8:01am On Feb 07, 2017
Students of the Ogun state-owned Tai Solarin University of Education, Ijagun have staged a peaceful protest against what they termed outrageous fees being paid by students of the institution.

The protesting students in their hundreds stormed Abeokuta, the state capital, saying that the lofty ideas of the institution’s founding fathers are under serious threat with the alleged high handedness of the management of the institution. The students opposed increase in acceptance fee of new intakes from N30,000 to N40,000; final clearance fee for graduating students from N25, 000 to N45,000; increase in vocational studies fees from N1,000 to N25,000; payment of N10,200 as Student Tax; N7,500 as payment for replacement of lost final clearance and N1,500 fee for any reprint of school fees receipt.
In a letter of protest addressed to the State Governor, Ibikunle Amosun, the students identified victimization of students’ activists, inadequate learning facilities, under-funding of the school by the state government, inadequate learning facilities as some of the challenges confronting the school. The letter reads partly, “Education is supposed to be the leading social responsibility of the government. It is supposed to be seen as the major way of giving back to the society, but has turned to source of income and revenue for some people. Education is totally commercialized in TASUED. You pay for everything! “As a result of several complaints and cries from the students, the leadership of the students’ Union government tried all they could to engage the school management to look into our plights in view of the present economic reality in the country and see ways of managing the situation at hand.”
Addressing the students at the Moshood Abiola Stadium in the state capital, Governor Ibikunle Amosun asked them to show more understanding and cooperation with government, especially in the face of the current economic recession in the country ”in Ogun state, education is free from primary to secondary but not free in our tertiary institutions and if you want your certificate to be worthwhile, you have to pay.
“It cannot be totally free, if you don’t want to pay, that means you may not get the type of education you rightly deserve,” he noted The Governor, however, promised to liaise with the institution’s management with the view of getting a way out of some of the challenges confronting the students..........www.thenews.ng/2017/02/ogun-students-protest-against-outrageous-fees/

Politics / Lagos To Ban Danfo Buses by Studentcosmos(m): 7:30am On Feb 07, 2017
Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode said he plans to banish the buses by the end of this year because they are "not acceptable and befitting for a megacity".
If there’s one symbol that defines Nigeria’s economic hub of Lagos it’s the yellow “danfo” mini-bus, the closest thing to public transport in the chaotic, sprawling metropolis. But on Monday Lagos State Governor Akinwunmi Ambode said he plans to banish the buses by the end of this year because they are “not acceptable and befitting for a megacity”.
Ambode’s drive is the latest attempt in a seemingly never-ending campaign to tame the wild streets of Lagos, which is renowned for its traffic gridlock and crumbling infrastructure.
The governor’s goal is to replace the buses — as well as motorcycle taxis and three wheeled motorised rickshaws
— with a modern public transportation system.
“When I wake up in the morning and see all these yellow buses and see okada (motorbike) and all kinds of tricycles and then we claim we are a megacity, that is not true and we must acknowledge that that is a faulty connectivity that we are running,” he said.
“We want to banish yellow buses this year,” he said in a speech, according to a state government news release.
“We must address the issue of connectivity that makes people to move around with ease and that is where we are going.”
Like other fast-growing African cities, Lagos, which is home to some 20 million people, has seen its population boom without the infrastructure to keep up with demand.
The first phase of a rapid transport rail system was originally due to open in 2014 and then in December last year, while there are even plans for a cable car system.
The buses may not be pretty — many have doors missing and spew noxious clouds of exhaust fumes — while their drivers seem only vaguely aware of the highway code, indicators and the brake pedal.
But as a cheap form of transport, strictly enforced by a daredevil conductor often found hanging off the side of the bus, they are the preferred form of travel for many workers........read more on www.guardian.ng/news/ambode-to-barnish-yellow-buses-off-lagos-roads/

Foreign Affairs / Re: After Missile Test, War Of Words Erupts Between Trump And Iran by Studentcosmos(m): 1:56pm On Feb 03, 2017
UPDATES..........The Trump administration is preparing to levy new sanctions on Iran, U.S. officials say, in the first punitive action since the White House put Iran "on notice" after it test-fired a ballistic missile. Up to two dozen Iranian individuals, companies and possibly government agencies could be penalized as part of the move, expected as early as Friday, said the officials and others with knowledge of the decision. The individuals weren't authorized to discuss the unannounced sanctions publicly and insisted on anonymity. The sanctions, coming in the first weeks of President Donald Trump's term, reflect his administration's desire to take a strong stance toward Iran from the start. Throughout his campaign, Trump accused the Obama administration of being insufficiently tough on Iran and vowed to crack down if elected. The White House and the State Department declined to comment Thursday. Trump took to Twitter early Friday, saying Iran is "playing with fire.".............www.cnbc.com/2017/02/03/us-preparing-new-iran-sanctions-over-missile-test.html

ollah1:
I suppose Iran knows very well what happened to Iraq, Libya, Afghanistan, Yemen and now Syria. I think Iran is well prepared for Israel and the US. The technology that the Iranians have is fascinating. Trump should first find out how the Iranians brought down the most sophisticated American drone Sentinel 170? They also have Setellite killer and China. Russia, North Korea are with the Iranians. Trump should be careful in choosing words to threaten Iran.

I agree with you. He had better tread softly. I hope Trump doesn't start WW3
Foreign Affairs / After Missile Test, War Of Words Erupts Between Trump And Iran by Studentcosmos(m): 11:33pm On Feb 02, 2017
A day after the Trump administration put Iran on notice for its launch of a ballistic missile, a war of words erupted between the American president and the Iranian government, with President Trump insulting Tehran on Twitter and the Iranians responding in kind. A top adviser to Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, said on Thursday that Iran would not be intimidated by threats from “an inexperienced person.” Mr. Trump’s national security adviser, Michael T. Flynn, had warned Iran that it faced unspecified reprisals from the United States if it did not cease aggressive behavior toward its neighbors.
Mr. Trump echoed Mr. Flynn’s threat with a pair of early morning Twitter posts, in which he accused the Iranians of ingratitude for the nuclear deal negotiated with the West, which he asserted had rescued Iran from collapse. The hostile statements have raised tensions between Iran and the United States to their highest levels since the signing of the nuclear deal in 2015. Some analysts said they worried that the harsh words could further escalate hostilities, and even precipitate a military confrontation, if Iran tests America with another missile launch.......................continue reading on https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/02/world/middleeast/iran-missile-test-trump.html

Dear OP,
You are not alone. I also have similar issue but I don't see or didn't myself dropping out of school. I applied for Elect. Engr. I was offered an agric course. I accepted it. However, I have a knack for ICT and writing. Infact, I'm just so passionate about anything OnlineMedia. I am into my finals now as a budding agronomists, but also a blogger, freelance writer and a green horn OAP.
In life, you just have to carve out your own path when things aren't going the right way. You been a good writer should not thrust you into dropping out. Why not graduate from that discipline and You could still be a skilled writer in a medical niche. If you need a writing cert. You could take various online courses out there.

I would have loved to continue but lemme stop here before I give a comment that would be longer than the OP's post. LOL

Career / You Need Only 2 Minutes To Read This Management Course. by Studentcosmos(m): 9:29pm On Feb 01, 2017
You need only 2 minutes to read this management course.

Lesson One

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.

A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, "Can I also sit like you and do nothing?"

The eagle answered: "Sure, why not."

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit, and ate it.

Management Lesson - To be sitting doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson Two

A turkey was chatting with a bull. "I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree," sighed the turkey, "but I haven't got the energy."

"Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?" replied the bull. "They're packed with nutrients."

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree. The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch. Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.

He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Management Lesson - Bullshit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there.

Lesson Three

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold; the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.

While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him. As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realise how warm he was.

The dung was actually thawing him out!

He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.

A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate. Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Management Lessons -

(1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.
(2) Not everyone who gets you out of shit is your friend.
(3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

This ends your two-minute
Management course
